First time eating at The Dockray Hall since it reopened, and my god, what a treat! Came here for Valentines Day and Mark and the team did not disappoint. Best surf and turf I've ever had! Service was outstanding and the atmosphere was great, my better half even got a red rose for the occasion 👌 nice touch Mark, you've still got it! If you haven't dined here yet, I highly recommend you change that, and get a table booked as soon as possible 👍

Good real ales, possibly the first time ever I've been offered straight or jug in over 30 years. Nice log fire. Could do with some decent signage for the non locals as to where the toilets are. Hidden around to many nooks and crannies

We visited this pub last Sunday for a spontaneous Sunday roast. What a lovely place, nice building, cosy atmosphere, tastefully decorated, dog friendly, outstanding food and exceptional service. The staff were brilliant. I would go as far as saying this was the best Sunday roast I’ve ever had at a pub/restaurant. The beef perfectly cooked, tender and generously portioned. Roast potatoes, mash and a carrot/swede mash so plenty of selection, plus a huge Yorkshire pudding and other veg. Only minor downside I thought was £4 for stuffing balls. I shared these with my partner but there was so many we had to take some home. Half the price for half the balls would have been nicer. This doesn’t, however, take anything away from the five star review. I would not hesitate to return. One last point, we looked on the website and couldn’t actually find anything mentioning a Sunday lunch or a Sunday menu etc. we weren’t actually sure whether there was a Sunday lunch being served but thought we’d turn up and risk it. We’re glad we did 😁

Visiting Penrith and been in here several times to have a pint and read a book- it's absolutely perfect for that with so many cozy, comfy corners to tuck away with beautifully friendly staff and patrons alike. I am so glad I returned to have dinner tonight because, goodness gracious! I got the venison, and although being from Texas I've had a lot of venison in my day, I don't think I've ever had it prepared so well (don't tell my dad.) It was tender and flavorful and every single accompaniment was perfection. It was also the most delicious au gratin potatoes I've ever had (don't tell my grandmother.) I don't usually clean my plate but I would've licked this one dry if that didn't go against proper decorum. I hate to sound repetitive and seem insincere, but I've made a point to have sticky toffee pudding just about everywhere I go in the UK and...well... you have to try this one- It's absolutely top tier!!! The softest most delectable one I've had anywhere so far. What a gem this place is! I'm only in town a few more days and even though I'm leaving stuffed, I'm excited to return!

Not from the area but really liked this pub and would make it my local if I lived in Penrith (wish I did) I very much-appreciated that it's not been ruined by soulless modernisation like so many other pubs. Fitted out appropriately for a place with a unique history and the live music is always a big bonus. Staff were as friendly and chatty. Apple pie was lovely and the Ale (especially Richard III) was top notch. Will definitely go back to Penrith and this first rate Inn.

Just dreadful. Everything about it , my daughter was served a frozen pizza that would cost £1 in the shops. My order was wrong and no one cared , my dinner came 20mins after everyone else. The staff are rude and don’t come check despite standing around most of the time. Manager has a bad attitude.

An amazing place, beautiful surroundings, history surrounds you as do the real fires. This is what a pub should be. Welcoming, friendly and like you don't want to leave. Dog friendly and also serving food and a good range of libations. Popped in while visiting Penrith, would definitely come back. Lovely loos aswell. Clean and smelling gorgeous, I know that's a weird thing to put, but you can tell a lot by the state of the smallest room in the house :)

We have visited Dockray hall for Sunday lunch since it has reopened and thought the food was decent so we visited again today for lunch! Unfortunately this was not a good experience! I had the fish chips and peas! It was the worst I have ever eaten! It was dripping in grease and tasted like the oil that the chips were cooked in had not been changed for ages! I didn’t eat and passed it to my husband who said the same! Needless to say we won’t be returning! I have never written a review before but I had to comment on this!

Our favourite pub/restaurant to visit whenever we're in the Lakes and Penrith is a true gem. Such a thrill to eat in the place also know as King Richard III’s house in the 1400s.
