The food here was absolutely delicious, me and my wife really enjoyed the food the and atmosphere of the place and it also had a log/coal fire which was burning nicely. My wife said its probably the best sirloin she's ever had.

Excellent stay. The restaurant was excellent, the rooms were well thought out and well supplied with good quality beverages. Breakfast excellent although only between 8-9 which suited us.

Stunning experience, been travellong for years and this is the best place I've stayed so far. Steph was amazing and we look forward to come here again.

Only stayed 1night but it was great.Steph was very helpful and the room was perfect.Very comfortable. Managed to get sunday roast which was really good.All in all perfect place to stay by the lakes.Definately come back.

Friendly staff, great room, sockets with USB chargers, hot shower, food was awesome (fish n chips, steak n ale pie) and tasty beer. Breakfast was good as well. Plenty of options. We would stay again no worries!!!!

We had such a lovely 1 night stay at the greyhound inn. A last minute booking was really easy with Steph and she was really helpful on the phone. We were very kindly upgraded to a bigger room which we really appreciated. We slept so well, super comfy bed in a lovely, warm, quiet & cosy room with a great little electric fire. Our German pointer was very happy after a long day walking in the fells. All of the staff were very lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Very nice selection of hot drinks & biscuits in the room and shower was great, hot and powerful. Breakfast was wonderful, a lot of choice very tasty and service was brilliant. Thank you for a lovely stay, we will definitely be back again.

Best sleep in a hotel for a long time and the location is great.

We stopped on our way to Glasgow, arrived late Sunday afternoon getting a really warm welcome,were shown to a lovely big room, an upgrade which was great,, felt guilty that we didn't eat there but hubby wanted to see the footie so popped up to the other pub,, came back bit later and the place was so quiet,warm,, lovely comfortable bed and a fab breakfast,what more could you want,,thank you

Food was not as good as people were saying, had the Christmas menu, left disappointed.

We enjoyed our visit here - unfortunately it was incredibly noisy overnight….at breakfast we heard that a group of people had been enjoying the bar until 1:30 in the morning….not that we wish to spoil others fun I think due consideration to those staying in the accommodation which is located on the first floor therefore above the bar should be considered!! We had an evening meal here which was enjoyable - perhaps not the best we have ever had but very pleasant. Breakfast was as expected…unfortunately my husband couldn’t eat the eggs as they were under cooked to say the least. Overall though - I know I have been moaning! - we enjoyed our stay and would stay again if we were in the area. The location is stunning and an ideal base for walking. **A note to staff - sweep up the chips and food debris on the floor from the previous night before setting up the breakfast tables for continental breakfast - standing in last nights food waste was not pleasant!!!**

First visit as staying at Felllside Cottage. Dog friendly, first time taking our puppy to a pub! Food was very nice and good service.

What a fantastic place. The food, rooms, service and staff are all amazing. You are made to feel very welcome. The rooms are very comfy and cozy, the open fire in the bar is fantastic especially on a cold night with a pint. I stayed with work and can’t wait to come back. I wish I was stopping for the week.

Rachel couldn't have been more welcoming to 2 very soggy cyclists, thank you for helping us to warm up and dry off. Food was great, but the hospitality was so lovely.

What a fabulous bar and restaurant and such friendly welcoming staff and other customers. Very generous with dog treats too! Popped in just before they stopped serving on Friday evening after long and late walk, but didn’t feel rushed at all. Amazing food - all 4 of us had great meal.Loved the black pudding and black peppercorn sauce! Will definitely return and recommend thank you so much ! Wish we lived nearer to enjoy more

Recently stayed here whilst doing the coast to coast hike. What a fantastic place! The staff were so welcoming & accomodating, even for such a big group of us! Dinner & breakfast was delicious, and the staff even loved our singalong & dance 🤣

Well located at the south end of Shap on the A6, it's always been a pub with a relaxed atmosphere and good food. After visiting the other after quite a hiatus, I was pleased that the food was still very good.

Visited here a few times as we were staying in a cottage for a break. Lovely pub/ hotel dog friendly, Beautifully presented lovely food staff are friendly and very helpful. Rachel was lovely to talk to . Unfortunately we didn't stay here but it seemed very clean and comfortable.

Nice looking pub in middle of the village of Shap. Quite modern inside but tasteful. Offers rooms and serves food. Outside seating. A local ale or two on. Has quite a large level carpark out back that can accommodate small vans but must eat in pub (not just drinks) would depend how busy it is.

We loved our stay at The Greyhound with our greyhounds! Our room was gorgeous, really massive with a fabulous view. Breakfast and Dinner were both delicious with generous portions. The staff were so friendly and Tom was fantastic - he made us and our dogs feel extremely welcome. Shap is brilliant to stay in and we enjoyed chatting to the walkers doing The Coast to Coast. We were only there for the weekend but visited beautiful Haweswater and Wet Sleddle, a must if you are a "Withnail and I" fan. We definitely want to come back to the area again and would stay in The Greyhound without any hesitation!

Stayed elsewhere in the village, but had dinner here. Excellent food and service. Moved to the bar after dinner and we were very well entertained by steph and Rachel (I think!) Highly recommended.

Called in for a drink and met by very friendly, efficient staff. The premises were spotless and comfortable a pleasure to be there. Overall a smashing place to relax and chat.

Food was very tasty, and came quickly. Service was friendly and the building was well restored.

Staff were friendly and personable. The rooms were quite basic though. They didn't seem to have been cleaned properly - ours had broken glass on the bedside table / floor. I asked to use a vacuum cleaner but one never arrived. Bathroom grouting and sealant were in a poor state. It was noisy outside when the bar closed, which was not great after a long day walking.

Tom and the staff were brilliant to 2 weary coast to coast walkers. Could not have asked for better. Highly recommend and would definitely stay in the future

Great place to stay on the way up to Scotland, staff couldn't do enough for you and the breakfast was great. Couldn't fault it

Food was good- although a little average in some cases. The chocolate fudge cake I had was definitely not homemade.. 😅 The sweet chilli chicken was great and not too spicy and my daughter had a huge portion of the little kids sausage and chips. There wasn't any small child cutlery to go with the huge portion, and no colouring or games offered either. That may be something to possibly look at going forwards to offer no matter what! Thanks for a good meal!

Massive portion of grub, absolutely loved it

Cant comment on the rooms because we were staying nearby but stopped here for dinner. Staff were very welcoming and the food was served quickly after ordering and was delicious, also very good value for money. Will definitely return when we are next in the area and would look at staying here,the location was good and rooms reasonably priced.

Only ever played pool matches here but good range of beers and the food looks good.

Stayed for one night on the way to Scotland. Nice handy place to break the journey. The hotel was clean, comfortable and warm and the breakfast was nice too. Although we didn't have dinner the menu looked good.

Room lovely ,nice comfy bed and nice linen ,shower was a little tired so would have given it a 5. Very slow service in the restaurant but food nice and staff lovely .

Went into this so called friendly pub Tue 24 th October 2023 the male behind the bar was very condescending and bordering rude.We asked about food at 1915 to be told dinning room was full but looking back through the window when we left it was empty .Definitely Not Recommend

A beautiful and extremely friendly pub. The owners were extremely helpful when we had been abandoned by the RAC 200 miles from home. They even kept the doors open late for us so we weren't waiting for our taxi on the street. If you're passing through Shap be sure to drop in for a pint and some food.

Trekking Lejog and came across the pub. I was able to get a couple of beers and camp in the garden. They also have pods but they where full. Great staff too.

Apparently our order didn't reach the chef so we had to wait a ridiculously long time for our meal. The food was fine when it eventually arrived.

The rooms were basic, the food was nice (although the burger was a bit rare) the staff were friendly. If I'm honest it was a bit expensive for what it was.

Our complaints were put right but they were queueing up to speak to the management. I’m not sure what’s happened here but customer service/staff training needs a re-vamp. Extremely clean and beds lovely.

Visited twice food is good, staff nice. The pub decor is nice. We haven't seen the rooms. The male toilets are very quirky. Lots of unique features. Good choice if food reasonable priced. Only a short detour off the m6 if you don't want service station food. Bug outdoor seating area.

The steak and mushroom pie was incredible, light and fluffy pastry that melts in your mouth, and I enjoyed the cajun chicken salad too. Thrilled to have eaten there after our walk on High Street Killer Circular.

Last minute booking and was pleasantly surprised. A warm smile when we arrived, lovely spacious room, breakfast was nice but small, great beers and fab steak night! Staff went out of their way to help us and make our stay memorable so we booked in again! Thank you all for such a lovely Greyhound Inn Experience would highly recommend stopping by ❤

Excellent dinner at the pub downstairs.

Three of us had the most wonderful stay at the Greyhound as part of Coast to Coast Adventure this June. The rooms was extremely comfortable and the service was fabulous and the food delicious. I understand its had some management and service turnover recently and I cannot recommend this place more highly. Well done to all involved. Cannot wait to come back.

Last minute decision on our way back from London to Castle Sween. Staff were helpful and kind. Rooms were nice and the beds super comfy. The kids loved their full sized beds! Breakfast was also lovely.

3 thirsty and hungry walkers went in at 4 o'clock, had two beers each, food served at 5 o'clock, 3 really good meals plus beers. No complaints, excellent.

After a long walk from Patterdale I finally arrive here. Came rather late so I just eat, sleep and shower. Well wrote some at internet as well. At the morning after I stayed until 11 because I had a short walk that day. Very very nice staff.

Loverly pub, some good beers on tap and really nice food. Gareth, who looked after us, was great, such a nice bloke, pub dog friendly as well.

What a lovely place and great bar staff..

This was an unplanned stop with my Mum who has mobility issues for something to eat and the staff here were fantastic. Lovely bar/hotel, nicely laid out and good places to sit out if the weather is nice (it sometimes is in Shap!) Food was great and reasonably priced. I was happily recommend and go there again when in this neck of the woods. Good use of old Kegs as well :-)

We met a couple of friends there . The food was lovely. Plenty gluten and dairy free option. The staff were really nice and helpful.

The Sunday meal was lovely returned on Monday and was very disappointed with food they shrimps instead of prawns the salad was lettuce and the seating area was infested with flys When we informed the bar staff they said yes we know! Never went back

We spent a night here on our Coast to Coast hike. After a long gruelling hike from Patterdale we were greeted and welcomed by Nicki who so kindly upgraded us to a room with a bath and a king sized bed! ! The bed was dreamy, rooms spacious and comfortable. We had a great dinner. We would highly recommend staying and eating here! Thank you!

Visited on our way home from Scotland. Required an evening meal. Most tables were reserved, but the manager sorted a table for us( we said we wouldn't need a long time, just some food). Staff were lovely, professional. Good Beer, and great food. Clean rooms good atmosphere.

Lovely food with a good menu choice. It's a popular dog venue so may not suit everyone. We had to move after eating as the smell of dog was to much. It needs a no dog area which could be the carpeted room.

We arrived at Greyhound Inn looking a sorry sight on our Coast to Coast adventure. We were treated like family! The room was immaculate and beautifully decorated and constructed. Plenty of tea and coffee and a lovely bath - I had two, I didn't want to leave. The food is great, both dinner and breakfast done more than sort us out. Rob and Nikki made sure we had everything we needed, and we were very pleased to meet Hartley the dog. We made it to Robin Hoods Bay - not sure we would have without our stay at Greyhound Inn!

Really enjoyed our break at The Greyhound and would highly recommend staying here or having an evening meal. Also, an ideal stop for a London to Scotland drive.

Stopped here for sunday lunch with a very large group. Staff were so friendly and coped really very well with us all. Food was good plentiful, and we didn’t have to wait for it. Very impressed. Would use this place again.

Didn't stay at the hotel. Ate at the restaurant for Mother's Day. Decor lovely. Contrary to website, menu was reduced to only 3 options. (Only 1 gluten free). Food wasn't good. Very short staffed. Staff did give us a big discount as they realised how bad it had been without us formally complaining.

A group of us stayed and ate here for a walking and yoga retreat last weekend. Everything was perfect, nothing too much of a problem, with great organisation and communication throughout. We felt for the staff as clearly the place is grossly understaffed, their smiles and unending patience were through tired eyes and bodies. Yet they did an amazing job. We think you’re all amazing and hope your bosses see this and respond by recognising your efforts and getting you some support soon.

Stayed with family including 2 young teenage daughters. Stayed in family room, room was clean, spacious and was well stocked with tea & coffee. Evening meal was good, breakfasts were superb. Best bit was really friendly bar manager (Nicky) and rest of staff, they couldn't do enough for us. Will stay again.

Breakfast wasn't ready in time to be served. Actually they didn't open the restaurant. Left this hotel without having the breakfast even that is included in its charge
