FYI 5* is for the beers, not the food (they don't serve any!) Superb local taproom and community hub. Pints are fresh and tasty. It's a shame the walk home is uphill.

Met friends for a social, easily accommodating us. Some fabulous beers to be had from Dockers or the Boscombe brewery. Cosy and warm atmosphere.

A small bar with good local and guest craft ales and wines. It's quite small so can be hard to find a seat on busier days. There's some pavement seating in the summer so people spill out into the street. Definitely worth a visit.

Most of these reviews are for the previous micropub. There is no real ale now, only keg beer at fairly high prices.

Barman sat 16th sept was really friendly and helpful. We came in with our boys and was made to feel really welcome. The lager was very good, will definitely return.

Nice classic rock music. No traditional beers on menu. A bit pricey, but I liked it.

A textbook example of the difference between a pub and a bar. This was a fantastic micropub where the owners served an excellent variety of beers at sensible prices, chatted and joked with customers, and made you feel part of the community. It's now a bland bar owned by a brewery serving good but samey beer at prices I don't pay in London. The barstaff are mostly competent, some are friendly and welcoming, but others are clearly there just to serve the drinks. The magic has gone.

Second time I've been since Docker refurbed it. First time had a very good stout and a pretty good IPA, but would say at 5.70 and 6.40 a pint I'd expect it to be decent. At those prices I'd also expect someone behind the bar who knew something about what they were selling. Second time was yesterday. All the seats outside taken. Walked in to find a solitary drinker enjoying/tolerating what I presume was the young bar person's choice of wall-of-guitar tunes at conversation-mashing levels. We turned round and walked up the road and had a couple of (£4.90) pints on the rooftop terrace at The Ship. The sound of conversation is all the music a good bar needs, but if you really have to, keep it on the down low eh?

Lovely, cosy interior, good beers (and gins, wines etc) cheese platter was a well worthwhile, substantial snack, as was artisan bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar dips.

Popped in quite by chance on a Saturday evening while waiting for our pizza from across the road to be cooked. Very friendly service. I had a Biddenden cider which was very good. Sat outside and watched the world go by. Inside looked comfortable too. Will definitely return.

Surprisingly cosy and warm feeling micropub with good beer. Also had a nice game of chess in there. Only slight criticism is that they only had 2 beers. Perhaps they usually have more on. Apart from that I loved it, will definitely be going back.

Little gem in Sandgate for gin lovers, 3 rotating ales with one or two of them local tipples. Nice atmosphere and welcoming owners.

A little drinking place ("micro pub") with a limited but good range of guest beers but a wide range of gins. A basic food menu is available. Would go back.

First visit this weekend and likely to come back. A friendly place with unpretentious food options that are good for sharing - and of course the beer, with a very nice Four Candles beer available when we came by. The only con (to me at least) is the large TV given this is a micropub, but if it helps bring people though the doors it's understandable.

Wine was literally undrinkable. My husband's beer taster was only ok according to him. Edited to add: Yep, that was us. My husband said when he ordered his paddle he didn't get a choice of what beers, so it didn't seem like it was a place where you would want to discuss beer (or wine) types and tastes with people who weren't regulars, so we didn't feel like it warranted coming in to complain. To be honest, I was going to, but I've got a Canadian/American accent and can be told "constructive feedback" comes across as really rude in a rural English setting, so I tried to get my (English) husband to do it but he said his beers were OK (but agreed my wine was undrinkable) so he wouldn't. We did read all the amazing reviews which is why we went out of our way to pop in - I think it's useful to share these things publicly so people know what to expect. Good to know we should have said something - but didn't really feel that at the time!

Warm welcome and friendly staff. Well over 50 gins to choose from which was welcome after our walk along the sea front. Homemade mulled cider was my choice to warm up and this was delicious. Will be back there soon.

Lovely little place. Visited a few times before signing up for the monthly Gin Club; where you have a tough job of choosing 3 gins to enjoy. It's stages beautifully, with name cards, small bottles and a bowl with all the garnishes need for your selection. The candlelight and crystal cut goblets just make it. Who knew they could be so different, and there are 72 on offer.
