We've been going here for years and it used to be great but it is simply awful now. On our last visit we had to clear a table so we could sit somewhere. We only go now because of the 'free' coffees you get with the Dobbies Club but as the filthy state of the cafe and uncleared tables just wind us up we are probably going to cancel that next time round. The cafe just looks completely unloved and un-cared for. I don't blame the staff so much as the management - the few that there are must be completely demoralised.

Visited today with my husband for a browse around the garden centre and lunch in the cafe. We have said never again! The garden centre is nice with a nice selection of gifts and obviously home/garden ware, but the cafe was absolutely disgraceful! First impressions are that the cafe looks very run down. Empty display cabinets, and even though it was 1.30pm so peak lunch time, it wasn't busy at all. We took a seat in a booth and noticed the seats were all ripped. Dirty floors full of crumbs and food and dirty, uncleared tables everywhere. Flies hanging around and crawling over the tables. We had to clear a table ourselves to get somewhere to sit. I sat down and found a squashed chip stuck to my shoe. We should have just walked out there and then. There was a sign saying hot food wasn't available today for some reason, so I ended up selecting a cherry scone that looked like it had seen better days. We ordered two lattes that tasted burnt and strong. Overall, a terrible experience and we definitely won't be returning. I suspect Dobbies at Preston will be closing soon, as I know they have closed other stores in the North West, so they have not spent any money on the cafe and they are running on skeleton staff.

Cafe was tired looking with torn seating and tables needing good wipe down. Cakes looked a bit sorry for themselves but the crisps were OK. A couple of nice coffees cheered us up a bit.

Waited 57 minutes for x2 soup and a sandwiches, asked twice how long it would be kept being told give it another 5 minutes. Cafes looking worn down , selections no where near it used to be. Tables are left full of plates waiting to be cleared, had to clear our own table. Toilets are awful and dirty, toilets are blocked, stink with mould and very grubby. No gluten menu for clout but not suitable for celiacs in really small writing at the bottom. A joke for a cafe.

I couldn’t believe that the complaints we had on our visit were the same as reviewed years ago. Do Dobbies management not read reviews? They really should. The ladies toilets STINK. I walked out and wouldn’t use them. This was our first visit in years, as even all those years ago the staff left used dirty pots to moulder on the tables, they still do. DEFINITELY our last visit.

In terms of the garden centre it’s lovely, and the food from the cafe is nice. The issue is the place is dirty. Even at 10am this morning when it was quiet there was bits of food all over the cafe floor and the toilets are absolutely disgusting. When getting cutlery you have to inspect it to find a clean one. Sadly this has been the case for a long time. Management need to do something as it’s disgusting.

Terrible place. Restaurant used to be okay, but it has gone down the nick lately. Food around the floor under the table. Unhygienic is how I would best describe it. As mentioned by other customers the toilets are a disgrace. Dirty and smelly. My wife said she won’t be visiting the centre again. The complaints about the toilets have been made for a long time, but nothing is obviously going to be done about them. I shall be cancelling our loyalty card before it renews again.

While the garden centre is lovely if you want something to eat and drink please consider not bothering at the cafe/restaurant. The food and drinks are overpriced and are of poor quality. Really disappointing.

Always used to enjoy a trip out to Dobbies get some lunch or a coffee and cake, Good …. First the food is lovely, not bad prices, the staff are pleasant Bad…. Try and find a table that’s not got pots or food on it, the place is grimy and dirty and in desperate need of a refurb, we were there a good half hour and pots were still on the tables, not going to mention to loo, Come on Dobbies this is not good at all.

Over the years my wife and I have been frequent visitors to Dobbies and always liked to visit the restaurant but over the past few months it has detriated beyond recognition. On Friday last we called in to see if the restaurant had changed. What a shock .It was worse than ever. Freezing and not a table to be had everyone was covered on used crockery. When I cleared the table myself placed our order only to be brought the wrong drinks. It was to cold to remain in the store. They had portable heaters but I think they had forgot to switch them on. WE WILL NOT BE RETURNING. 🤬🤬🤬

I normally enjoy a trip to Dobbies for lunch and a bit of shopping 🛍 . But today I went to enjoy the New Year's sales, and was very disappointed! The heating was broken, and the store was freezing! The restaurant, although not busy, you couldn't get a table because they hadn't been cleared of dirty pots. There was food on the floor, and we saw another customer sending food back cold 🥶. The main shopping area had buckets and wet floor signs all over due to a leaking roof. And the toilets were filthy I won't be returning!!

Not a very good experience especially in the cafe just popped in for a quick coffee and a scone but there was no organisation at all was told our coffee be out in two minutes twenty minutes later it eventually arrived scone eaten way before lol staff tell you to put a table number down but they were running here there and everywhere looking who ordered what 3 times we were approached to ask did we order this or that so why ask for a table number if you’re not going to use it to find the right people!!

A quick visit with my friend and her little one for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. I’ve never been to Dobbies before and I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was a little underwhelmed at the whole place really. There wasn’t much atmosphere, it wasn’t particularly busy and the staff weren’t particularly friendly and or helpful in the cafe. Cafe was busy, but empty dirty tables weren’t cleared quickly. we chose to sit outside, which seemed an inconvenience to the staff serving…. We had a couple of sandwiches/ toasties which were OK.. reasonably priced so I can’t complain but nothing special and the bread was really cheap white bread. Fish finger sandwich was again, cheap breaded fish fingers.. I would have expected fresh ones. Cakes looked expensive so we just bought a cake from the Waitrose outlet to take home with us. I don’t think I’d bother popping by again. I’d rather pay the extra and go up to Barton Grange. This place could be so much better.

Hopeless, hapless and expensive. Visited today and order lunch for myself and daughter. Electric buzzer provided. After 30 minutes we went to see what had happened as no food had arrived. First person we spoke to said our order had not been done and second said we have had it! We pointed to the rumbling tummies and “unbuzzed buzzer” which was still in our hand. Refunded.

My husband and I visited on Sunday for afternoon tea and I have to say it was delicious, very good value for money. We had the luxury costing £18 for two people, we got lovely cakes, sandwiches and to top it off we got clotted cream. The service was fast and extremely attentive. Will certainly be telling family and friends. Will be back again very soon!!

Awful service. Was horrified that when looking to purchase a salad, there were walnuts mixed in with the ham. I'm extremely allergic and that is very careless practice. The beef and ale stew arrived cold and tough. It was disgusting. I won't go there again

went today with my mum and it was utterly appalling. My mother had mushroom soup and a prawn sandwich and I chose a ham baguette with salad and 8 crisps. The soup was tasteless and reminded her of dishwater she couldn't eat it, the sandwich was very watery and chewy and the brown bread wasn't buttered nor accompanied by any. The salad on my baguette was very dreary and limp looking and the ham was formed, and fatty with no taste what so ever. For nearly £11 I wouldn't say this was good value at all and almost every table had plates and mess stacked on them, it didn't look appealing or clean I had to ask for a table to be wiped. The atmosphere was lacking too as the place was full of o.a.ps and felt like that they're the only customers they cator for. The rest of the shop is great especially the cat that inhabits it, go somewhere else if you want a tasty dinner though.

Looked online to check opening times before going and all said open at 09:00. Arrived at the cafe just after 9 and door was locked with a closed sign on it. Waited a few minutes as thought they were running a bit late for opening which was OK. My partner then asked through the open window around the side what time they were open and he got the reply '9 O'clock' 'Oh it's seven minutes past now' was my partners reply to the person who had replied, who didn't respond further. We waited a few more minutes until someone unlocked the front door and turned the sign around from closed to open then just let the door slam shut. No communication or apology from this member of staff for not opening on time, which we both thought was very rude and didn't make us feel like we wanted to part with our money to a place whose employees obviously weren't bothered. We decided to take our custom to Toby carvery for one of their buffet breakfasts which is only 5 minutes away. We then came back to the lake for a walk around and had a lovely drink from the RSPB visitor centre and a lovely chat with the staff there.
