Cafe doesnt do toasties etc until 11.30 and only breakfast leftovers available. 2 very dry sausages and the bacon was so dry I had trouble swollowing it,however it did eventually go down with the help of my luke warm coffee. Cakes very over priced. On sitting down i had water dripping from the roof onto my clothes and moved seats. I did not complain as I had my young granddaughter with me. 20.79 down the drain. Wont be back.

This has got to be the worst experience I have had in a garden centre, popped in for lunch around 1pm and thought it strange that it was empty however purchased 2 bowls of soup and 2 scones, the discovered they were the day before scones the were as dry as a stick and as you cut them they just started to crumble not what I would expect from the £22 that cost me will never be back again.

The wheels fell off today - The que was long and slow - reason the poor lady, Louise. who was making the teas and coffees etc had then run to take the money at the cash desk. This two job stuation resulted in many frustrations. She was pleasant with a smile on her face inspite of the pressures put on her. Some customers left. We waited it out, my husband eventually went to the main help desk at the entrance asking somone in authority to please come to the Restaurant and view what is going on. It seemed there was no supervision- staff all doing their best and being welcoming and pleasant in spite of OBVIOULY undertaffed. The system failed but thankfully someone was sent to help out at the drink serving section /cash desk, but so it looked ok as anther staff member arrived, yet Louise still had to make our coffees and then take us to make the payment. This is a big concern - the staff seem happy to work and give their best, but the various sections of the restaurant was not manned by enough staff to maintain a successful welcoming -"saying thank-u for coming please call again set up". I am now asking - is there a problem with Dobbies? After 20 plus years of being a loyal customer even I am looking to other options. I sincerely hope this can be sorted. One other issue is - to call on the phone means you will not get anyone answer it. e.g. I wanted to purchase manure a few weeks back and phoned to ask it they had stock and the price - - after a few fruitless unanswered calls I went elsewhere!

Oh it's grim. I return once in a blue moon in the hope it has improved, but they plummet to new depths each time. When other garden centres are busy, "go to Dobbies" they say. "You'll always get a seat there"....and there's a very good reason for that. It's pretty dreadful and the lack of replies from management to the pretty dreadful reviews on here demonstrates an ethos that has no desire to improve. I've now given up on ever getting a cappuccino that is hot. By the time they've worked out how to froth the milk, the coffee has gone lukewarm....the checkout tills (once you've queued for 10 mins with your now cold cappuccino) seem to utilise tills that require 24 taps on the screen for every 2 items on your tray. By now, your cappuccino is a frappucino! And don't order hot food for the same reason. Dobbies Sandyholm have mastered the art of how to make serving lunch look like scaling Everest...a huge effort by numerous people, followed by an eternal wait before you reach the summit.

What a disappointment!. This garden centre used to be brilliant, but is now plainly awful. More so the restaurant side of it. The elderly woman who took our order for a toastie was nothing but arrogant and obviously needing to retire. Asked nicely for a cheese & onion toastie which she replied very rudely with “does it say cheese & onion on the menu?” to which it did not but there was a full tub of sliced onion sitting in the display cabinet which she said she could take onion from, what was the point in her arrogance, really no need for that kind of behavior. My toastie cost £7.69 which came served on a paper plate with a very bland side salad which consisted of lettuce,a small piece of tomato & a couple of slices of cucumber, at that price you would have expected some crisps and coleslaw, husband had cheese & ham toastie which cost £8.29 also served with a pathetic salad. Definitely won’t be returning. What is going on??

Food was ok not the best. Served on paper plates and my tea was served in a takeaway paper cup, I was told they didn’t have normal cups even though they were stacked behind the server. This used to be table service, when your food was ready it was brought out, now you get a buzzer to collect. The tables weren’t cleaned of dirty cups, plates etc, not wiped down either. Not much choice for eats. Certainly won’t return and definitely wouldn’t recommend. The garden centre itself is pretty sparse, only one or two sets of garden furniture and plants are nothing to rave about. What has happened to a one very good garden centre where you had trouble getting a seat and had to queue for food. Come on guys, give us an explanation.

Went today to visit Santa Pass and had to write a review. The staff were so friendly and helpful. All were so kind to my dog, took the time to say hello to him pet him and the lovely girl who served me gave him a wee treat. Santa himself was excellent with him took the time to ask me about him etc and played along in his character which was so nice, brought a bit of Xmas magic back to me! He was so friendly and the girl who was Santa’s elf was so lovely and kind too and offered me to go back round as my dog wasn’t playing ball for picks to start. The shop had their Xmas sale on so got some great bargains too. Pls don’t let the negative reviews below put you off visiting as everyone there couldn’t have been any nicer. We had booked Santa’s Grotto and our two children were really excited. On arrival, husband found he had somehow booked the wrong date 🤦🏻♀️. We only realised this after speaking to a member of staff and she could not have been more friendly and helpful. She immediately said she would sort it, took the booking details and told us just to have a look around and come to the grotto in half an hours time. When we arrived, it was nice and quiet. Our son and daughter loved the little scavenger hunt and when they got to Santa, he was lovely and took time to speak to them both. Santa had a present waiting for each of them with their names on which was a lovely touch. All in all, it was a really good experience and our children loved it. Thank you.

Sadly after many years of coming here for a wee lunch, I won’t return. It has massively went downhill. We visited on a Monday afternoon whilst the kids were off school. We waited 50 minutes for food, when I asked what the wait was, one of the cooks told me “you should have been told there was a wait as we don’t have enough staff”. The cutlery was dirty, trays were dirty and overworked staff. It’s a shame. Our food eventually arrived and I was told there was no coleslaw for the baked potato. I was so shocked at the food that I actually returned it and asked for a refund. The cook asked “what was wrong with it”. Sorry, if a cook doesn’t see what is wrong with my order then he’s in the wrong job. I had a lovely young gentleman refund my order and left.

Disappointed in restaurant. Despite not being busy on a Monday afternoon, we'd a long wait to be served. Dirty crockery was piled up around the service area, and most of the tables hadn't been cleared. Guessing they're short staffed but after experiencing it, it's no wonder the Rosebank along the road is packed.

They did not serve us hot food. They claimed to be “Running out of food” and that “They had to save food for the next day”. After eating a packet of crisps for our lunch we then turned around to see the kitchen staff throwing away the leftover hot food that we were not allowed. Very disappointed. No teabags or cups for the tea. The scones were stale too.

Something has happened at dobbies. Having previously vowed to never have food there again due to the very poor presentation and quality, we visited today for coffee only but noticed that the hot food looked good. We decided to give it another try and were pleasantly surprised. The new buzzer system avoids standing in the queue to pay while your food goes cold. Still a bit pricey for the portion size, particularly on the sandwich fillings but a huge improvement on what it was. Whatever you have done, it is a noticeable improvement.

Decided to bypass the other garden centres on route but won’t do this again. Service shocking waited with hot food at till while customers were being served teas and coffee during which time our food was getting cold, then to add to this another queue at the cash desk where anyone using a loyalty card had to get their number written down which added more queuing time while our food got even colder. The restaurant was half empty and I’m not surprised as won’t be back.

What has gone wrong at Sandyholm? Went for a light lunch with my elderly mothe, they now have a weird system where you get an electronic token that tells you to collect your order. Why? What happened to table service. You sit there watching this token waiting for it to vibrate. Waited 25 minutes for a cheese and tomato toastie that cost £7.50 which was actually a lot of bland salad and 2 slices of cheap white bread that had little cheese and 2 slices of tomato. Come on, what an appalling offer when there are so many other competitors in the valley. It should have said salad with some cheese and goat. Very evident that it was understaffed as the same person took the order then had to cover the checkout and then was not able to accept cash as the manager had locked the till. Why? It did upset my mother who was buying lunch and only had cash. Sorry, will not be going back.

I wasn't going to do this review but after reading these today and it bringing back all we had felt I just had to do it. We went for breakfast one morning in early March just before lockdown. All the other garden centres we had passed were very busy but when we got there the restuarant was nearly empty and there was no one in front of us. We ordered our breakfasts and mine was put on the serving counter but my husband wanted a fried egg and the order was shouted through to the kitchen. We waited .... and waited until I was beginning to think they were out waiting on the chickens laying. Meanwhile the rest of our breakfast is sitting waiting. it took nearly 15 mins for someone to bring a tray of eggs through and the server then put the eggs onto the plates of the people who had formed in a queue behind us and we, the first in the queue, were the last to get away with our food. The sausage was like cardboard and half cold as was the rest of the food. It was definitely not worth the wait. We will not be going back there for breakfast when you can get lovely breakfasts elsewhere with better quality produce. Really disappointed.

Having read negative notices here I was a bit wary, but : the homemade broth was delicious, the rest of the meal was absolutely fine, a waitress brought us bags, without asking, to take our scones home in, as we were too full to eat them there and then : and all in all it was a very satisfactory experience . Booked to attend the Tea with Santa, like we did last year, and oh my goodness what a severe disappointment for gran, grandpa and granddaughter!Let me say from the beginning that the food served was without complaint but the 'entertainment' and ambience of the event was simply appalling particularly if you attended last year when Mrs. Giggles was perfect for the occasion AND the Santa who had more life and interest in the children in his big toe rather than this years fella! The young female who had been entrusted with this years entertainment tried very hard to make something of it and is above criticism. But it never worked.......The decor around the setting was minimalistic,There was no christmas music,There was no christmas atmosphere,Santa showed very little enthusiasm or interest in his position.I'll stop there.......last years event was excellent and to all the people who may have attended this year on my recommendation....I apologise but it wasn't the same.We were informed that Mrs. Giggles was booked out solid for the next 3 years or so, and quite rightly, elsewhere but looks like Dobbies either couldn't be bothered getting similar entertainment or took the cheap option. Many, many people would have booked on last years event returning this year but this information was not displayed at the time of booking your 'non refundable' event.Shame on you Dobbies, the children (and adults) have been let down.I will not be returning and would not recommend Tea with Santa!!!

OMG! what a disappointment this place has become! They used to have the car wash in the car park and it was always busy. BUT since this has moved away the place is dead and lacks absolutely everything now! Go about a mile along the road towards Garion Bridge and you come across Rosebank, this place is absolutely buzzing with kids play area, lovely coffee shop etc. Dobbies has lost the place and plot, you used to make a point of going to see the christmas displays, visiting santa, railway rides for the kids, and then a lovely tea in the busy resturant! not anymore, could have shot a gun and not been arrested for hitting anyone- the place is a disaster- sad but I think it will close soon!

I waited at the hot food counter for 10 minutes while others got served who were at the soup area but behind me in the queue. The server didn’t even look the way I was on. She kept disappearing into the kitchen. When she finally came out, I asked if there was anyone serving and very cheekily said “me” but I’m too busy just now.I walked away. This is not acceptable.

We went to Dobbies today for a bit of lunch, we got a seat, left the kids then went to order. My wife and I ordered a panini and soup for the kids, the server advised that our lunch would take about 10 to 15 mins as they were busy, she asked if we would like all items brought out at the same time and we said yes. It was over 30mins later my wife went to ask where our meals were! We were told that the soup we ordered and paid for 30mins earlier had run out? I would have thought that given we ordered and paid for the kids soup it would have been available when our meal was ready? It seems they take your money but sell the product and leave you with an unsuitable replacement.

We used to live near here years ago. Our recent visit was a bit of a disappointment. There wasn't a huge selection and what we chose to eat was average at best. We also noted that some of the food items in the restaurant were nearly 3 times the cost of buying them in the garden centre/shop. The cost of our meals for five people was quite expensive.

So disappointed in the recent changes in Sandyholm. The car wash franchise did a great job and attracted me and friends to visit the garden centre regularly but their franchise was not renewed. Such a shame. The recent change to a standardised breakfast has also been a big disappointment and has cut my regular visits to once or twice a month but now only for a coffee. In this day and age of reducing food waste, there seems no value in standardising the breakfast other than to promote profit. I have always found the staff to be hard working but their job seems to be harder due to less staff being available. Long waits at the coffee area are regular occurancies with often only one server doing their best.

Came here mum husband and our two dogs as it was a lovely day. Very disappointed as the dog bowled cigarette ends and were dirty didn't look as if they had been washed for a while. Had to ask a member of staff to clean them. I wont be bring my two dogs back.

Going downhill fast. Used to be lovely for lunch, coffee etc. What a change. Went for lunch today and this is now 2nd time not satisfactory. Today we left, no soup 20 minute wait if we wanted soup ( another lady said she had waited 40 minutes after ordering this. No tuna , no bacon, panini aenemic looking. We just said we were sorry and went to another restaurant. The time before the lentil soup was brown like gravy, the cheese toasties was not melted and the staff did not care. Very disappointed to see somewhere that was really nice go downhill.

We visit this garden centre rarely, primarily because the coffee is dreadful!! Americano, latte, cappuccino, flat white - all have a nasty aftertaste. Usually revert to tea. Food and baking OK but overpriced in comparison to the numerous other nearby garden centres

Stopped in for a tea and cake with family, all I can say is absolutely terrible, the cakes were all lying out, totally dried up, for anyone to handle, cough/sneeze over, flies landing on, food under heat lamps looked the same, the sitting area is totally in need of a re-vamp, carpeted areas were heavily stained, payed £3.50 for a slice of cake that was only fit for the bin, rest of the family said the same, definitely won’t recommend or be back, totally CRAP and must the the worst along the clyde valley.

When we were at Dobbies for a lunch today, I had a look at the plants and gift shop. I decided to buy a cake to take home with us. I lifted a pack of two pineapple cakes in a plastic case. As I lifted them, I noticed there were two ants inside. One crawling about inside the casing and another which appeared to be feeding on the cream inside the cake which had a dent in it. Obviously, I wasn’t going to buy them, but instead took them to the counter to point this out to the assistant. When I told her about the ants, I was amazed that she was about to scan the barcode. I immediately said I didn’t want to buy them, as they had ants in them. She examined the pack then put them behind the counter. No ‘oh dear, where did THEY come from’, or ‘thanks for bringing it to my attention’, no apology...nothing, not a word.

Noticed over recent weeks price rises in coffee now £3.15 for what they call a large cup, had breakfast the other day toast one portion 2 slices £2.05 for bog standard bread, mac and cheese no up £0.50p to £8.45 i could feed a family on that, we used to visit 2 times weekly for coffee and the odd breakfast/lunch but no more. strange thing is this is despite the place becoming quieter over recent months, it is going to get a whole lot quieter, Costa do a great big coffee and lovely toast cheaper!!

Called in today for afternoon tea and it was faultless. So much of a choice and all freshly made. Plenty of sandwiches from salmon to cucumber, scones, clotted cream and jam and numerous small cakes. Had a children's stand too which the kids loved. Flower shaped sandwiches, jelly, grapes, vegetable finger dips and cakes. The kids loved it. Staff very attentive and friendly.

Sadly all branches are much the same in that a bit of character adds to the experience of a visit. The restaurant looked excellent with a good outlook of the Clyde Valley. It was a hot day and the glass covered buildings seem to have little or no ventilation so it was unpleasantly hot. A wide range of plants for sale but it would have been good to see something new or unusual as an impulse buy to enhance the garden plantings or appearance.

Met our family for lunch at Dobbies and when we came out it had stopped raining so we took our Granddaughter round for a shot on the swings which were still wet. Fortunately we had a roll of paper towels so took this to dry the swing. It was absolutely black with filth when it was wiped and the black continued to come off after quite a few wipes.

We went today for lunch and noticed the car park was quiet which was strange for a Saturday lunchtime. On entering the garden centre it was very noticeable that the stock was depleted. Again, we thought this strange but continued through to get something for lunch. The restaurant was empty and even though it was 12.15, breakfast was still being served and no hot lunches were out. When asked if we could order fish and chips, the server had to check if they were doing it yet - it’s 12.15! I ordered a tuna baguette and my husband took the fish and chips, we had 2 cans of soda and it came to £20! The lunch took an age to arrive (about 40 mins), my husbands fish was overcooked and my baguette was stale -having spent £20 on this terrible meal, I took my baguette back and swapped it for a sandwich. We had a quick look round the garden centre and bought a few items and had to wait an age to be served - there was hardly any staff in the place. Overall, a very disappointing experience. We are regular customers but something was not right about the whole experience today. As a plus member, we will be using an alternative branch of Dobbies in The future. there are many fantastic garden centres in the Clyde Valley that offer excellent food at great prices.......this is not one of them.

We called in for a Dobbies’ for a seven piece breakfast, as we have done many times over several years, to discover they have been replaced by “set breakfasts”. We ended up buying the small Scottish which had things we didn’t really want (sausage) but, according to the young girl serving, couldn’t replace with something we did want (tomato) despite there being plenty sitting out, that seems a strange rule. The restaurant was empty at 11 am, maybe that tells it’s own story.

Have visited Sandyholme on many occasions over the years. This has to be the worst yet! Hardly any cakes available so settled for a scone. Was going to have jam until noticed the 65p price!!!. Whilst wandering around indoors I noticed a parasol which was covered with bird pooh, surely a health hazard!!! Also in ladies toilet only 1 tap in 4 had a TRICKLE of water running, surely yet a other health hazard

I have been coming here amidst the pandemic, and the service here is terrific. The food is genuinely tasty, but can be a bit hot sometimes (burnt my mouth a bit recently). Staff are very kind and patient and do put in a lot of hard work to make the place safe and virus free. Happy to call this a regular in the future.

My fish from the takeaway was perfectly cooked, with a soft almost creamy and flaky texture in a lovely batter. The fritters were enjoyable too. The prices were as good value as you get in most chippies and more so for the high quality. The staff were friendly and pleasant. Though I hadn't used the restaurant I had a look in and it was tiny but immaculate and very cozy. Looks great for a family occasion where you could easily have the place to yourself with a smiling, polite waitress on hand. 😎👍
