Dobbies Garden Centre Peterborough in Peterborough

The customer service here is awful. The staff are nowhere to be seen and when found they are clustered in groups chatting! The shop floor is ill planned and light on stock and the products where displayed are difficult to find. The worst of all was the miserable girl on the counter, no greeting, no smile and she overcharged us on our goods. We got no apology from her and a couldn’t care less attitude and the supervisor who refunded the overcharged items was equally miserable! The nicest person there was the chap selling poppies, he greeted everyone who passed him and he didn’t work there!

Visited for lunch. It was horrible. Food was not nice!! Edible but unpleasant. Staff were very sweet but come on Dobbies, get your act together!

I took my mother of 80 for lunch today and was so disappointed. We both chose to have a panini and the salad and coleslaw that came with them were not fresh, the lettuce had turned brown and the coleslaw seemed to be well past it's sell by date. When getting some brown sugar from the condiments counter (which needed a good clean) the dish containing the sachets was full of loose sugar at the bottom and had obviously been in there for some time. We carried on around to the seating area and we could not believe how dirty everywhere was, the floors and the tables were covered in drink and food and it was unacceptable. Unfortunately we will need be returning. The whole place has gone down hill and is in need of a lot of TLC.

Restaurant has good distance facilities along with rest of store.

Lots of Christmas decorations, food, and Halloween stuff but little else, especially bulbs and plants.

Had my baby shower here today with afternoon tea, was absolutely amazing food, and drink! The staff were all incredible always coming to check on us and just outstanding service! Thank you so much ☺️

Called for lunch yesterday. All choose Sunday carvery..never again.. beef was almost raw apart from outside, husband struggled to cut. I had pork which was OK, daughter had turkey. Veg was poor all hard, cold .Yorkshire pudding looked good bit just disintegrated when you tried to cut..I know it hard to keep things warm .. but we were all very dissatisfied, 4/ 10..we are not normally people to complain, BUT. Good location with plenty of parking. Plants, both indoor and outdoor, in good condition. Nice cafe with good selection of food and drink. Overall a pleasant experience, will definitely visit again.

The food and drink in the cafe is lovely but the self service system at lunch time especially is really chaotic!

Very disappointing visit for afternoon tea, on arrival we had to find someone. Then once seated and our afternoon tea arrived no sausage roll as advertised which was the reason i book that afternoon tea and the scones were so small they looked like biscuits. We did complain we were offered more sandwiches as they had run out of sausages roll. What is the point in pre booking if you can't have what is advertised. Then we were offered a cream scone. So we ended up with one scone and not two as advertised we missed out on the experience of making up our own cream scones. But to be honest wouldn't of been able to eat two as they were very stale and dry. The sandwiches were passable. We waited a while for someone to return and offer us a refill. Over all very disappointing. I booked this as a treat for my friend who is visiting for a few days. I was upset that it wasn't a good experience. Its been a few years since I've last been, but my experience then was lovely, someone greeted you,your afternoon tea was freshly made as you were drinking your first drink. Someone always around asking if you wanted more refills.

It was wonderful not to have to queue today for refreshments. Unfortunately, there was no ice cream available on a lovely warm day. Apparently, the freezer had broken down. The drink was hot and served carefully. Many of the toilets were out of order when I visited (which has been the case for several weeks now according to cafe staff). This really does need to be remedied so people can use the facilities. Both cafe staff members were attentive and courteous. I hope management recognise quality staff and respond more swiftly to customer feedback.

Stopped I here for a breakfast whilst the car was in for a service. Hoped for a nice hot drink and pan au raisin , but had to settle for breakfast plate as none available. The portion is a good size but the quality of ingredients is poor leading to at best a half eaten meal. They could charge more with better quality. Butter for toast was not butter but sunflower spread - these cost about a penny per portion so you can see they are penny pinching on the quality. Would not recommend , find anywhere better

Was so impressed last year when we found Dobbies had charging points for our hybrid car, considering there’s so few around. More impressed recently when we saw more being installed until we discovered that none of the new chargers had a normal type 2 charger and the old chargers were not working anymore! Considering this is our go to place for gardening and meeting friends and family really disappointing.

Ok. Cafe tables need more regular cleaning. Toilets, as usual, mostly out of order. Only 2 out of 8 open. Been like it for almost a year. Needs sorting. Disgusting

Staff seem disinterested in their job. Lots of tables not cleared or wiped down. What’s going on Dobbies get your act together. Toilets disgusting too.

I have been a member of Dobbies club since the garden centre opened, since we have had lunch there, not once I have had a warm meal, today they excelled themselves and we waited 20 mins in the queue for the till,there was only 4 people waiting and 2 of them wanted ice cream, we had toasties, so by the time we sat down they were cold and congealed. The person we got the toasties from was rude and sullen. The whole department needs a good shake up.

Lots of lovely things on display. Excellent food hall and restaurant. Some of the staff at the tills could be more customer friendly.

Why oh why is it not possible for you to answer the telephone. I wished to speak with Customer Service, three calls, no reply. Desperation, dialled 3 for restaurant services, alas no reply. Operators cut in asking me to chose from the following options, 1 - opening hours - 2 customer service, tried and failed to be answered for the fourth time.

Very nice garden centre with lots of garden Supplies And plants. Got a Waitrose a cooking Supply shop a nice cafe and a home Area. Has a soft play for the little ones. Friendly staff very big as well. The aquatics area was nice with lots of fishy’s. It’s Hardly changed since I last went here except that the Waitrose used to be a Sainsbury’s..

It's a good place to meet all your garden requirements. You can buy a variety of aquarium fish as well. There is a restaurant on the side if you need food.

Great garden centre and if you get the loyalty card for only £12 you can have 2 free hot drinks per month excellent value, staff are friendly and helpful. Lovely coffee

Great garden centre with everything you could need for your garden - and then some. The manager was really knowledgeable and more than happy to chat to my 14 son about his garden project and give him advice.

It ok. But found the breakfast wasn't worth the money quite pricey.

Telephone customer service non-existant! I rang eight times, back to back, yesterday. Listened to the intro, choice of options in full and waited until the call was cut off due to not being answered every time! Not impressed.

Poor service, terrible tasting tea and very over priced. By the time someone could be bothered to come and take our money the drinks were nearly cold! Will visit the garden centre again but give the cafe a miss!

Very comfortable place to shop or just browse. Excellent outside garden centre, very clean and tidy. Professional and attentive staff . Recommended.

Massive queues, dirty cutlery, slow food, impossible to get a hot drink due to the queues. Tiny dog friendly area, cannot buy food or drink if travelling solo with a dog as dogs not allowed to queue for food and drinks with you. I was told I could tie my dog up at the other end of the building whilst I ordered. Meanwhile kids touching everything with their fingers last seen up their nose!!! Never again, still not had ANY of the "free" coffees I was told I would get if I joined the Dobbies club!!!

Dreary and poorly stocked. Visited before heading off to Blue Diamond a couple of miles away and what a world of difference. Whereas BD was bright, inviting and stocking a huge variety of garden, gifts and household stuff as well as an interesting ladies boutique (now looking almost like a department store) Dobbies had rather limited stock overall, quite a number of empty shelves, a poor selection of flowering houseplants and a somewhat underwhelming cafe/ restaurant with very slow service. The plants etc in the outdoor area were also poorly signed. The whole place is in need of a total revamp and I’m afraid we won’t be returning if it remains as it is now.

Garden Centre great. Cafe menu / range of food options on offer good; but limited food supplies avalible to facilitate people's choices not so great, leading to limited choices available from menu.

Always a pleasure going to Dobbies to look around and to get what you need. They always have a great selection of plants. I'd like to give a massive recognition to Claire who went above and beyond to help me with changing my address on my membership card. I forgot my postcode and she did eveything to correct the details. Very lovely lady !

We have been absent for a long time. Yesterday 10/4 12ish Excellent. The lady in Garden Centre Centre was great knew her onions and so cheerful. The restaurant was running smoothly. The gent on the till was so very helpful as l am in a scooter he took our tray as it was full to our table and helped us when we left. What a treasure. Alround excellent customer service. Food much Improved will be back Garden centre well laid out. Thank you

If this was luxury I hate to think what a traditional tea would have been like. Three small strips of sandwiches per person, a 3 inch length of sausage roll which was more pastry than sausage and a piece of quiche. The scones were exceptionally small. Clotted cream and jam were nice. Cake selection was reasonable. Service could have been better. Once served the food and drinks, there was no follow up to check if everything was OK or if we needed anything else. There had clearly been a children's party in the room before which had not been tidied up This cost £20 per person !!! *** Please save your money and get better food and experience with a Meal Deal at any Supermarket ***

The food is alright, turned up at peak time. Had a bacon and brie panini, the salad on the side was lack lustre, you also used o get crisps which you don't now. For 2 paninis a sausage roll, 3 cakes, 2 coffees and a bottle of water the price was a little over £39. Better else where for your money.

I enjoy a variety of things from Dobbbies: visiting the garden ,having lunch, a coffee with friends in the morning or afternoon tea and cake.

We booked a magic box , yes ,for only 4 pound ( that is amazing ) but we badly surprised ,when we open that and it was just nuts,plum cake( expiring today) one prowns cocktail ( expiring today ) and one cocked chicken ( expiring today ). Yes sure is just 4 pound ,and magic box is doing for dont lose all the money ,sure I'm business man and I understand,but that is lucryng on top,my girl was so sad and delude about,that look more like as child bag or as if they had to prepare everything at the last minute by randomly looking for things.. we are disappointed .

I have a van, and I can't shop here at dobbies as they have 2.3m hight barrier, but they have an eletric barrier for big vehicles but every time ive been i call the intercom on the barrier and no one answers this has happen multiple times now and think it's wrong.

Real shame that at 2.40 all hot food cleared away and only a handful of cakes remaining even though garden centre is still busy and open for a few more hours

Charity Coffee afternoon. Excellent organisation and great service from the staff particularly mentioning Skye who looked after us perfectly all afternoon. Great gluten free option for coeliac sufferers. Reassuring to see the understanding of avoiding cross contamination. Thanks for a lovely afternoon.

Food in restaurant very good. I can't understand how this restaurant can be so good yet dobbies in Huntingdon is virtually inedible.

On Wednesday myself and a colleague popped into Dobbies (Peterborough) for some plants and bits to brighten up our Preschool garden. We met Dianne out the back who was tending to plants. She was super helpful with advice & really lovely! Maddy then joined us to talk about seedlings club etc, and she was really lovely too! Sometimes, staff are not always the ‘happiest’ of people - but these two ladies went above and beyond for us & we cannot thank them enough!

Awful breakfast. Had a vegetarian breakfast this morning. It was awful! The eggs, sausages, mushroom and hash brown were dried out. The toast was hard and the beans coagulated. Do you not refresh the items on the counter? At least the earl grey tea was nice as it was freshly made. Shan’t come here again!

Good size garden centre. Cafe has some lovely food and not to pricey. Butchers has some great quality meats, and the deli counter has some really good items. I really like the pies.

I am always bowled over by how clean & tidy the entire store views. Staff - except for 1 check out operator - always with a smile 👍 The only issue; subject to your own take on it, restaurant/cafe pricings are top hasvy. Similar in other G/C operations .... but this one is really top end on what they charge. Shame 😣

Lovely selection of plants, including some reduced ones which I purchased. My friend and I really enjoyed our free coffees and nice teacakes in the Restaurant. A most enjoyable visit thank you.

Excellent afternoon tea. Very good value, good food quality but the thing that makes it stand out from others is the staff member who looks after you. Each time I have been it's been the same gentleman amd I can never fault his service. Highly recommend it.

We had Lasagne and slaw today plus hot chocolate, brilliant meal and drink. It has improved considerably but will return to try other foods but it was a very good hearty meal.

Bit sad after the Christmas festive season. Fire alarm went off while we were there and I have to say for a big garden ctr it was very badly managed. Staff didnt know what to do, no tannoy to advise customers and after it was done nothing to say we could re enter the building. Hopefully am never there when God forbid there should be a real fire!!!!

Went to Dobbies with my 11 month old baby in order to use their Soft Play area near the restaurant. I was fairly disgusted to be honest- every single table in the children’s soft play area was covered in old food and rubbish. I think the management at this Peterborough Dobbies need sorting out. They obviously need more staff to clean up after customers.

Enjoyable Christmas Lunch for Peterborough Stroke Group. Looked after very well by staff and excellent food from the chef. Will use again for lunch outings.

The food itself was quite nice and for the price paid, I was happy with this. However, the layout of the restaurant was very chaotic. There are people trying to take your order at the top end before you get to the actual menu for the hot food. You queue up to pay and then the food is ready to collect before you pay for it meaning you have to leave your place in the queue to go and get it. The staff seemed very rushed and quite blunt and there seemed to be no order to the way things were organised. All in all I would not come back here for food. I am giving the rating of 3 because whilst I would not overall recommend the restaurant, the whole garden centre has quite a nice range of products and some of the discounts on offer were quite favourable.

When serving Brussels sprouts it would be wise to see if they are cooked! The ones served to us today were so hard you couldn't stick a fork in them. My husbands lasagne had an oil slick on it and garlic bread was so hard he couldn't eat it and mine had the most disgusting chips and garden peas tha were that shriveled they looked like they were cooked last week. Very poor.

I've been buying at Dobbies Peterborough for the last 8.5 years. Unfortunately, quality of customer service has decreased significantly during the last year even thou the staff have not so much. Christmas decor - if you sell glass bulb separately, make sure to provide boxes that would protect those bulbs. Staff have indifferently informed me that I can just throw those bulbs into the metal trolley. Perfect solution, eh?! I won't visit this store ever again!

amazing place to visit and buy everything you need

I’ve been here four times now, usually to grab a coffee as part my Dobbies card promo. The wait has been so long and the service so slow, that I eventually just leave. We went to grab breakfast this morning and waited in line for 20 minutes, to then be told we wouldn’t get anything as it would soon be 11.30am and they stop serving breakfast. In summary, I’ve still had nothing to eat or drink. the restaurant experience is pretty poor. staff levels and or procedures need revamping.

I enjoy visiting Dobbies for the range of good on sale, to get ideas for seasonal planters and also the indoor plants. I dropped on point as some items are no longer available such as dry coir for indoor plants. I had to purchase a much smaller amount in a pouch and a much inflated price.

Worst cafe service ever. Obviously untrained not interested in customers. Don't bother wasting your time here. Go to the Harvester close by who are lovely and give a 5 star customer experience.

I always recommend a store when there are items I know others are looking g for. I have always found the Peterborough store and its staff to be very good.

Food was delicious and the service was brill. The lady who served us, told me to serve myself quicker for tea. Which was most helpful. 😁 👍

Always bargains to be found in the reduced section.... for example just bought some cyclamen for a pound each and planted them and they are thriving

Been to this particular Dobbies quite a lot now. Layout and space in this branch is always impressive. Went mainly for Mini Golf. Having previously enjoyed the Roman Empire course, this time went back to the original 12 holes. Although disappointingly you can't go round it twice anymore. When I asked, the staff member thought this could only have been a special offer (if it ever happened). Another gripe, the gents toilet just outside the restaurant is not as clean as it used to be and the smell, ugh!

Lovely restaurant and garden centre

Went to the softplay, in the time we were there nobody cleaned it or even came into the area and it was quite dirty from people leaving their rubbish on tables when they left. This is the second time it has been like this within the last couple of months. It is a nice sized softplay area but let down by hygiene. All of us that went have been ill a day later. Doubtful I'd go again which is a shame.

We went for a work get together and had a lovely afternoon with the company and chance to catch up outside of work.... it was a lovely thought to treat us to an afternoon tea.. However...we got served our tea in a mug with tea bag in...(no really!) . The food arrived and our initial thoughts were... is this for 2 people? I went for a savoury... had some quiche, a boiled egg halved, a pork pie halved..2 'cheese scones' (I say this because they are pseudo cheese scones.... plain scones with a cheesy topping.. no cheese within the scones... so disappointing!) And 6 triangles of sandwich.. I had 2 egg, 2 cheese and pickle and 2 lovely ham and mustard....most of us took a doggy bag home as it was so much... There was a range of food/sandwiches.. although we had a range of teas.. some traditional, some savoury.. some vegetarian savoury one piscetarian... there was an interesting range of sandwiches on different platters! Initially my colleague who requested a piscetarian tea had a pork pie and cheese and ham quiche on her platter... and no fish at all, in fact 2 of her sandwiches were just tomato, lettuce and onion! On the traditional platter they had smoked salmon!!.. she spoke to management and they happily bought her some tuna and cheese sandwiches and offered to refund her meal cost as it was preordered.. but it's obvious that food prep staff didn't understand the term! I was happy with mine, aside from the cheese scones.. I make my own much better! - but had to ask for a doggy bag! The ladies toilets stank like a gents public urinal... some were out of order.. others had lots of loo roll all over floor.. or no loo roll in holder... 2 out of 3 hand dryers didn't work...and a massive hole in plasterboard wall near door...such a lovely space ruined by no regular maintenance or up keep.. Will not be rushing back!
