Charters Bar in Peterborough

What a gr8 place, very unique, very friendly staff, will definitely go back for a meal next time, were able to take the dog in and the band Midnight Jack were playing, amazing music 90's + great guys, the boat was rocking!!

Has stood the test of time, awesome venue that will never disappoint.

Excellent bar with a great range of ales. Only a stones throwaway from the Cathedral and guildhall.

Well, this is with a heavy heart I write this negative review. I have dinned here countless times and not once had a bad experience until tonight. The service was lacklustre at best scatter gunned at worst. The atmosphere was poor so loud you could not hear yourself think or talk not the best environment for a celebration it wasn’t even like it was loud enjoyable it was loud and hectic and this seemed to impact on the staff who clearly struggled tonight to cope. The service was also a lot slower than I would deem reasonable meaning by the time we had our starters we were ready to get outta there. Not the best when you’re shelling out near on £100 for the privilege it’s such a shame cause the quality of the food is 10/10 but the environment and service let it down. Also owing the the fact the toilets are shared with the pub below it’s very hit and miss how well these are maintained tonight sadly they had taken more than a beating due to the drunken rabble that had used them and left them is such a state you felt like you needed a hazmat suit to enter.

Cheeky pint as was walking past. Probably a bit early in the day for the beer feast (as I can't spell the German version!) but I really like this place.

Good vibe, lots of outside seating and drink reasonably priced. Music from a DJ. Gets busy, seems well suited to everyone with a mix of couples, groups and families, young and old. Didn't eat, but food seemed popular.

Enjoyable selection of real ales and they offer a burger and pint deal which is really good. Thai restaurant upstairs. Staff are very helpful.

Charters is an amazing and unique location. Situated on an old barge the main bar is a great experience, plus the huge beer garden with entertainment guarantees a great atmosphere especially on a sunny day as the trees and pavilion provide great shade. Is there a better place for a catch up with friends in Peterborough? I’m not sure.

Great place this. Right on the river. Huge outdoor area with pizza. Coffee mexican. And a decent sized resturant on the upper deck of the boat. Loads of people serving so small wait times. Everyone seemed friendly enough. Good selection of beers ales etc. Seemed senisble on price for a town centre pub. Something for everyone really. Would recommend and would go again.

Cheap plastic glasses, terrible bar service, the toilets are disgraceful, outside tables old and rickety, clientele rowdy and bringing in their own booze. Music well that leaves much to be desired. All in all a rubbish place with no love in the mix

Great outdoor place great music

I loved this place. The old school music from the late 70s was excellent. The Ramones, The UK Subs, The Clash. The bar downstairs in the hull was a treat, and the Guinness was spot on. The young man who served us was friendly and chatty with good banter, an absolute joy. The seating area outside was huge, I was gutted there was no live music on the night we were there. I wish we had one of these moored on the River Tees back in Boro.

Charters is class if it’s dead, anymore than 17 people there at any one time the service drops and it’s not enjoyable. P.s it’s probably the worst football viewing experience of football I have ever had.

Lovely place to be in the summer especially if they have an event on. One of the nice places left in Peterborough. Definitely worth a visit.

Amazing place for a live music A great place to meet with friends

We tried to order coffee, were sent to a different part of the bar who sent us back. We left. If this is their idea of customer service we'll just ban ourselves and go elsewhere. Just dire scruffy crappy staff without a clue.

Never like giving a poor review but on this occasion is up there with the worst, went to watch the England game and was so poorly organised, you were more interested in making money on the booze than offering a service to show the football on the screen the screen itself was to low to watch, everyone was standing one the tables so nobody could see the tv. You should never be allowed to show live TV again. Left after 30 minutes as I had enough and so it a lot more people

Visited for the first time Saturday was heaving, great experience... But toilets were disgusting!

For real ale this is one place that is very hard to surpass, being popular though expect a wait, but is worth the wait. The live music is wonderful if the weather is good, but for me the music downstairs can be a bit overpowering. It is dog friendly but the gravel makes it very dirty for dogs but there is a grass area.

Alright experience for a Monday evening. Great weather so got to enjoy the beer garden!

The Asian food was ok. The venue is dead with little atmosphere, a summer suitable weather venue. Parking is terrible.

This is a very good pub on the River Nene in the centre of Peterborough. Last year it has had extensive work expanding the outside area and on a sunny day it's really the place to be if you want to enjoy the weather by the river with a drink or three. They have a large selection of drinks which is ever changing, particulary real ales, stouts and traditional ciders. Burgers and Pizza food options at certain times if you get a bit peckish - not tried them yet so can't comment on quality. The place can get very busy but staffing levels are usually gauged correctly so they can deal with the increased demand without too much of a wait. Live music outside in summer and regular bands at the weekends. It has it all really.

Lovely place for early evening drinks. Christopher Paul was the young gentleman that served us and his cocktails were amazing. A very polite young man who is a credit to your company.

Easter weekend mini beer festival with some great live music

After 25 years it’s time for a review. Amazing food and restaurant, unique, delicate food. Never disappoints. Same staff after all this time. What a great restaurant on a barge of all places.

I really enjoyed it here. Came for a lunch out with work and it was pretty quiet, kind of expect it would be a lot busier in hotter weather. The food was amazing, and served with a smile.

Sunday Buffet for the first nice selection of starters and main courses all very fresh and hot. Desserts extra cost but again very nice. Would recommend booking

Best pub in Peterborough by a long way, fantastic selection of ales, ciders, craft beers and lagers. Great setting outside with a huge beer garden which is great for the summer months especially but with plenty of cover it can be used in all weathers. Inside on the boat itself it’s a warm, friendly and relaxing atmosphere along with a very friendly team if bar staff who are very efficient even when the boat is at its busiest. Not to be missed 👍

Just a different and cracking "pub", always worth visiting if you're in the area.

Staff continually & loudly slagging off management, skipping tracks on playlist (4 times on my visit), bad practice.

I only had beer here, the choice here is good, quite a number of decent beers on tap, and good bottle / can selection.. I only rated 4 stars as there was only 1 stout and 1 porter on tap in winter.... Still good though, as they were decent local brews

Good place for a pre match beer, but for me and my family, it was the Thai raps that we had, which were delicious and great value.

Great beers (about 10/12 real ales, 4+ciders and other beers) eastern fusion food served from the upstairs 'East' restaurant, all on a converted Dutch grain barge. I've been going here since the day it opened 30+ years ago and is probably one of the two best pubs in Peterborough; the other being the Brewery Tap (also great beers and food), which I'm sure they won't mind being mentioned here as both are owned by the same company!

Possibly the best selection of ales in Peterborough. The beer garden is superb too. Jaut need the sun to come out more often :)

Pub on a boat moored next to Peterborough's town bridge. Usually serves a range of local real ales and several ciders. There are stairs down to the inside deck, with plenty of seating ... but note that the route to the toilets at the end feels a bit wobbly even before you've had a drink, because of the angle of the floor. Outside there's a massive beer garden by the river for summer drinking.

When I’m in Peterborough, this is my favorite place.

It's almost like a second home! A range of Oahams Real ales and guest craft beers. Half the price of London pubs!!! Either from the hand pump or direct pour out of the cask. Huge range of Spirits, cocktails, wines and imported beers. This huge Dutch barge sailed across from the Netherlands and built about the same time as RMS Titanic. The barge is over 200 years old. During heavy storms the barge just rises a few feet, it's never going to get flooded! The Riverside huge beer garden has live music, some new huge wall art murals added around the beer garden AND outside real ale bars and a Pizzaria fashioned from huge shipping containers doing a roaring trade.

It's an old Dutch boat converted in to a bar, with an Asian restaurant on the top floor.

Been here twice now , found it to be a great little place , DJ playing good music nice n chilled atmosphere in the beer garden would have stopped longer but for having to catch a train . Keep doing what your doing.

The food is great… Thai food a specialty, but pizza and the normal fayre are also available. Service at the bar can be slow due to volume of customers at particularly busy times. Food service is quick and all staff are friendly and helpful. The place has a relaxed atmosphere … tables are in the open but there are places that are covered in case of inclement weather and a covered space over the bar. This is a great place for an evening out with the family, with young families in attendance in the early beings. There is a large screen and stage area for screenings and live music. A great place to spend time with friends.
