On a visit to this cafe I could not believe the prices of the cakes. Absolutely ridiculous . £3.99 for a small slice of cake, £1.10 for a small teacake. I used to love this cafe but don't think I will be back at these extortionate prices.

Arrived today at 4.20p.m to find all the counters empty - the cafe closes at 5.30p.m.- having stood waiting for service I had to attract the attention of a member of staff who frankly was studiously trying to avoid us. With much bad grace she arrived and we had to point out the cakes that had been removed to ask if we could have one. It has been my experience that the Dundee Dobbies is possibly the poorest of many Dobbies I have visited and eaten in. Usually the severy has minimal food and certainly no hot food much after lunchtime ie 2.30.

The cakes are getting smaller, the service is getting slower, couldn’t sit down as there were no clean tables. Other couples were having the same problem we had to ask for tables to be cleared, there were 7 tables with food, drinks and rubbish on.

We went into Dobbies in store restuarant in Dundee for breakfast, never again. The meal was very poor and cold. The black pudding was the smallest of end pieces and the one rasher? of bacon was unrecognizable. The haggis was cold and looked like the scraping of the pot. I took photos of it on my phone to explain to management or anyone else who should be concerned of the standards. When I took the plate to the serving assistant he said he would show the " chef", I doubt very much if there are anyone in the premises who could honestly admit to holding that position. We have used Dobbies at various garden facilities but would certainly not be returning to this one. When no one even came over to explain or apologise, we went to Tesco customer services to ask for some feedback forms. There were none, I can understand why? The assistant manager then came over to explain that is the way breakfast is served, when I showed the photo of the plate and its offerings,, she did apologise again. This was a £7.25 breakfast which should never have left the kitchen. A very poor example of unacceptable standards. Even a voucher or a free cup of coffee would have been a gesture.

I’m positive that I can say without hope of successful contradiction that this establishment has sold me the worst cup of coffee on the planet. We also bought two extortionally priced paninis which were barely edible needless to say we will not be returning if there were any minus ratings for this review I would be awarding them.

Nice coffee. Good selection of cakes. But ours were dry, not good to leave them open and uncovered, but at least we had a good coffee to wash them down, very overpriced, for a place that feels like a canteen that’s been spruced up.

Went here with my wife ten o’clock in the morning a coffee, tea bacon roll for me and wife doesn’t eat fried food so asked for a tuna sandwich was told can’t have that we only do breakfast items till 11.30 WHY? So wife had a piece of cake which isn’t a break fast item bill came to £10 and change. Now remember where we are this is Tesco not some fancy cafe in town. Bacon roll dripping on plate bacon fatty and lukewarm 2 rashers must have cost around 50p tops to make £3.85 cost and IT was not tasty in the slightest 2 bites I had. TIME THESE BANDITS WERE KICKED OUT OF YOUR SHOP DAYLIGHT ROBBERY TESCO. WILL NOT BE BACK STAY WELL CLEAR OF THIS PLACE

Came for lunch today. Went to order one of the specials, Macaroni cheese, to be told there was none left. Changed order to Coronation chicken baguette and an egg mayo baguette to be told there was only one baguette left. Ordered a cheese panini instead of the egg mayo baguette. Then told there was no Coronation chicken left. Cancelled order and went elsewhere. Absolutely shocking example of a cafe and really puts the Dobbies name to shame. Its job is to serve food and they failed to do that. Won't be back!

My wife and I stopped in for a bite to eat and a coffee whilst on way to somewhere else. It Wasn’t that busy but the service was still slow ! We ordered the same things ie latte coffee and 2sub rolls with ‘coronation chicken’ we both love coronation chicken and eaten it many times , HOWEVER when our rolls turned up , firstly the sub rolls were stale and hard , and god knows what was in the rolls as it tasted absolutely nothing like coronation chicken, in fact both my wife and I said it tasted of liquorice 😳 The rolls were horrible and we didn’t finish them , the coffee was the same , so we left those as well , we left the coffee shop totally unimpressed , and won’t be going back again , awful place to dine

Just had the most revolting plate of scrambled egg. Black and lumpy in places, undercooked in other places. Swimming in water. Had to return it but the replacement wasn't much better. Toast was adequate. To be fair i have had the same meal before and it was very good. Don't know what happened this time but the chef today should be ashamed for serving food like that and thinking it was edible.

For the price we payed for coffees we left there so dissatisfied.

So people are asking why this place closed, as it's quite rightly got great reviews for staff service, food, coffee, and general vibe. This was my favourite spot to have a quiet coffee or meet people for a light lunch in Dundee. Basically, the story is that the owner shafted a pregnant employee the day after she went on maternity. He "fired" her and refused to pay her maternity. The staff, having apparently been paid not that great already which is testament to their professionalism given the quality of service, walked out in protest. This was late Spring when the hospitality industry seemingly had ten job vacancies for every candidate, so they rapidly just found other work and Birchwood's workforce simply evaporated overnight. Word got out on Facebook and, especially given the prices, ignited a general boycott of the place through the outrage. I'm unsure if the employee ever did get her *legally required* maternity pay. The last that was being said was that the owner had not only blocked her number, but also HMRC's! A lesson in how a lovely place can come crashing down through the sheer greed of its owner.
