Surprised and happy to have received our meal within 15 minutes of ordering it for delivery. Once we opened containers we realized how this was achieved!! The only thing that was freshly cooked seemed to be the bread ,the rest looked like it had been microwaved judging by the labelled containers and the hard chunks of lamb that I now need to seek dental advice. Flavours was good too much sauce very little meat . Very disappointed with the quality of food . Would not recommend takeaway but have seen many people when I drive by eating in restaurant so maybe you get freshly cooked food then .

Once again an utter joy to return to this excellent local curry establishment in Sanderstead. It was their wednesday evening 'special menu' which is utterly delicious. We hadn't booked but were fortunately given the last table in the restaurant, (it was full house)!. People came and went during the evening and it was always full with newcomers. Basically most starters and mains on the menu are available (prawns etc. are surcharged), plus popadoms and dips and the deal includes 2 items per person (ie vegetable/rice/bread), from the menu. We always have a delicious meal there and we had looked forward to going for quite a while as we sadly hadn't been able to visit. After the tasty crispy popadoms and lovely dip tray we once again had their amazing mixed meat platter starters which were a great mix and variety of meats and absolutely scrumpcious. We then went into the mains and had the glorious sizzling chicken shashlik's which were very enjoyable. This was accompanied by the usual sago-aloo, onion bhaji's, keema-nam and mushroom rice, which were all very delicious and went down a real treat. We had the usual cold pints of chilled cobra lager (shandy) on tap which was very refreshing. We once again had a wonderful evening and can't wait to come back. Would whole heartedly recommend visiting this 'jewel in the crown' and especially the amazing deal on a wednesday evening.

Visited here after hearing wonderful things from locals in Sanderstead. Sadly I feel this is the case as the majority of people who rave about this restaurant are English and don't quite know what a really authentic and good Indian curry is. Highly disappointed, naans are not freshly made but shop bought and curries are bland bases they just add last min meat or prawns to based on your choice. I'll not visit again.

Cannot fault this restaurant for sumptuous food fantastic customer service and excellent customer care. The manager is especially focused on his guests getting the best experience of the restaurant. This particular restaurant kept us going during the pandemic last year, kept our spirits up by a sense of normality as the food was still as good and it was delivered in a covid safe way. Was pleased to revisit again to find it exactly the same as before, when you order a takeaway it will be just the same as if you had dined in. Thanks to all the staff

We had previously had the usual popadoms and mixed tray of dips which was lovely and accompanied by their house draft indian lager shandies, which were very refreshing . To follow had the chicken shashlik and chicken tikka, accompanied by onion bhaji's, mushroom rice, keema nam and sag aloo and mutter paneer which was abs. scrumpcious. This is a nice venue and the staff were friendly but seemed inexperienced. The welcome and taking us to our table was awkward. They were slow at taking our drinks order. I ordered a gin and tonic and the waiter said they had run out of gin. What the hell!!??!! On a Saturday night !!! The drinks arrived and they were boring. The soda water was flat, warm and in a 70's thick tumbler glass. Up your game !!! We waited for an hour and a 30mins for our food to come. In that time they didn't ask us once if we wanted another drink. I had to interrupt the waiter taking someone else's order !!!The food was delicious but the meat was scarce. I had a lamb shashlick bhuna which was the nicest of the 4 mains we ordered. Our bill came to £116 which isn't the cheapest curry I've had. Would I go back? Not sure I would bother.

I'll keep this brief. It doesn't warrant an in depth review. House wine was poor. Red, wet & sweet. Portions were frugal. Sag paneer was a disgrace. Creamy and full of sugar. Really? Sent it back. The king Prawn special dish was spoilt by the over use of cloves. The only saving grace was the madras sauce which was average to good but not enough of it. The peshwari nan was luke warm by the time it got to the table. All in all not a good experience and at £52 it wasn't cheap. It was a unanimous decision not to return. I cannot recommend this restaurant.

Read the reviews and was expecting a decent quality meal. Maybe it was because it was a Sunday night and the reserve chef was on (trying to be charitable) but we found the food bland and tasteless. Left just short of £100 on the table for a meal for four where only one of us had a beer, so it was expensively bland too.We wont go back.

We pitched up at about 7.30 one Monday evening and were the only diners in the restaurant. There was one old guy propping up the bar but he may have been waiting for a takeaway. It made no difference to the service or quality of food we received - both of which were exemplary. Our choices of dishes were welcomed but we were not altogether convinced that our lamb wasn't actually beef! Whilst fairly tender, the strands of meat were rather too coarse for lamb & it was very difficult to determine the flavour because of the lovely spicing. Maybe something was lost in translation but whatever the reason, the dishes were delicious. The only very slight quibble being that the mushrooms in the mushroom pilau were raw & there were a couple of bits of onion which must have been intended for the bin. It's quite a while since we visited but as always, were asking ourselves why we don't go more often. Really delicious food with particular praise going to the naan!

I don't know about you, but I must say that 'going for an Indian' is one of the most pleasurable experiences around. I've been doing it for ages, first as a yobby 20-something tanked up with beer after a night in the pub and then, as I slowly grew up, visits with my girlfriend who became my wife and, of course, with my kids. For many Brits, the 'curry' is as British (if not more so) than fish & chips. In fact, many believe that Indian food IS the UK's most traditional meal.

We visit Sanderstead from the North of England once or twice a year to see my aunt who lives there, and we usually end up here for one evening partially because it's an easy walk from our base at Selsdon Park (see review). I think I mentioned last time that although the reviews stretch back a few years both the management and name (ex Diwana) have changed, so the older reviews are perhaps not that relevant. Anyway we went on a Wednesday evening which is the evening they have their special offer... Popadoms, starter, main course, rice, and a veg dish for £12.95. Last time we went it was fairly quiet on a Wednesday evening, not anymore the words got round, you need to book. The staff were very pleasant sat us down within 5 minutes. The food was excellent everything we both had was good. The special encompasses the standard items on the menu, I can't remember if there is a supplement for any dishes, king prawn perhaps, but if there were then it wasn't an issue for us there is plenty of good choice. All in all it was a good meal well served by pleasant staff, which is pretty much what I said in my last review, but it's worth saying again

However we always have had bad experiences with takeaway curry's (they are always seem to arrive cold) so easier for us to nip out for a curry. This place is perfect, has everything a curry house can ask for. Tasty curry and reasonable price too, perfect for nipping out for a quick curry.

I love a curry, I am really not fussy and have never before written a bad review but egghhh to this place. Sunday Buffet was an abomination. Limited selection of 2 curries (unlabelled) and burnt bajhis/wings. All food COLD and clearly left over from the previous night. When we complained, the waiter assured us he would make it hot but even after two further attempts the food was still not hot. As apology the waiter offered to bag up the remaining bajhis/wings to take home. These would have been thrown out once the place closed in 15 minutes anyway and not only were they burnt but yes they were STILL cold and we didn't want these. The waiter just shrugged by this point. We got our bill and had to send it back as it was miscalculated and we were charged even more than the original price. The waiter in apology for the service told us that next time we come in that we can call and he will make sure there is dress hot food. Ummm, isn't that what you expect all the time??? He actually asked if we will be coming back next Sunday!

I get the impression that they are cutting corners but their prices are on the up and up. Not a pleasant experience at all. gave them the benefit of the doubt but now will stop visiting. I am prepared to vouch for my review

This is one of the best Indian restaurants I have been to and which I measure all others against. I have visited this restaurant over the last 20 years and have never been disappointed. The staff are uncommonly friendly/helpful, the restaurant is clean, has a nice ambiance and a pleasant view across the local park. The food is always prepared to a high standard and the portion sizes are generous. The onion bhajis at this restaurant are outstanding. Definitely worth a visit!

Great local Indian which, according to the waiter has been operated by the same family since it opened over 30 years ago!Food is always fresh tasting and portions are plentiful; service is always friendly and efficient, and staff seem to know many of the clientele on a first name basis. The place has a quaint sort of charm about it, and whilst the older style decor may not be to everybody's taste, its a refreshing change to the more ubiquitous and garish interiors of the so called 'modern' curry houses that have sprung up everywhere. The menu is again of the 'traditional' style, offering well known curry house type dishes; but those that I've tried (chicken dhansak here is the best I've tasted!) certainly rank above the average fayre on offer in the many other curry houses out there. The Sunday buffet is also worth a visit- very well priced for the varied spread on offer. All in all this place certainly gets the thumbs up!

Move to the area 20 years ago and this has been my local. I have tried every Indian within miles but always come back because the food is consistently good, the service is excellent and staff are extremely polite. Eat in or takeaway food is very good. I don't know why it's taken me so long to review.

You always get a fantastic welcome in this restaurant - the waiters are polite and attentive without being pushy. It can get very busy on a Saturday evening but the food still comes quickly and the service is efficient. The food is always first class and the onion bhajis are better than those I've had in other Indian restaurants.

At last an Indian restaurant where a three chilli mark on a Vindaloo did mean fairly hot and spicy ! Excellent curries mild through hot , with a good range of side dishes to complement. Will revisit when next in Croydon . Recommended.

I have eaten at Diwana in the evenings over the years and always have immensely enjoyed their cuisine, but I unfortunately had the misfortune to sample the Sunday lunch buffet last Sunday and have to say was extremely disappointed. The rice was obviously reheated from the night before, the chicken wings had no meat on them and the rest of the food was not up to the standard of their evening menu. Also, nothing was labelled, so we had to continuously ask what was in the trays. The restaurant has recently been repainted, but the furniture is the same as when they opened some 20 years ago and the coat rack is next to the buffet and my coat stank of curry when I got home! The seats are also like buckets and need replacing as incredibly uncomfortable! Perhaps their profits should go into improving the restaurant to how it used to be.The staff were friendly and courteous though.

I went there with some of my family for a celebration. Normally, I do not like Indian food but my family do. However, the food I had was delicious and it is the first time that I was able to eat the same type of food in an Indian restaurant as those with me. My family thought it was some of the best Indian food they had ever tasted. The waiters were very kind and efficient too. I would certainly like to recommend them.

Recommended by a friend and he was right - the food here is always really good, even the takeaways. All the dishes have a good balance of flavour and I find the food less oily here than anywhere else. The restaurant has a nice, if slightly dated, interior but it's ambience is good. We did get a bottle of wine with sediment once but they quickly replaced the bottle for us when it was pointed out. It's a little more pricey than similar places I've been to but it wouldn't put me off.

A recent discovery, one Friday evening,on the limpsfield rd Led us (my friend and i ) after finding out that the tapas bar is no longer nearby, we opted for here parking is ok. in the evening anyway, maybe less so in the day. The decor is bit plain n dated 70s with clean advocado toilet suites. :) But thats ok im here for the food. And we werent disapointed, The food was tasty and sufficient and the place started to fill up with the regulars,( usually a good sign) Not the most extensive menu iv ever seen food is good. waiters polite and service fine. The owner seems to be on first name terms with a lot of his patrons and hes a friendly enough guy who took the opportunity to ask us if everything ok. Good old fashioned northern hospitality is always welcome.

Having eaten and so many Indian restaurants, there are some that are really awful and some that are truly great - the Diwana fits right bang in the middle. It seems wrong to say the food is average, but it is very tasty and reasonably priced - just what you would expect from your average Indian restaurant. You go to the Diwana for a decent meal and this is exactly what you get - I would recommend it and I know you will not be disappointed.

We have visited this restaurant over the past 20 years at least 6 times a year, and it never ceases to amaze me how consistent it has remained in the standard of cuisine. However it is the welcome and friendly service that makes us want to go back time after time again. The prices are extremely reasonable and portions are more than adequate.I just love the Vegetable Biryani, and Kemah nans are great.
