Went on a busy weekday evening. Service was good. Food was above average. We tried the Bhel Poori and Dosas, which were good. The famous kulfi was just average (have had better in London), the kheer was below average. Didn’t try the thali but I will be back to try it. The mango lassi was not so nice- (very sweet and seems to be made with mango juice/can), but may appeal to some.

A visit to Diwana with a friend. The staff were friendly and polite and vegetarian dishes were tasty, hot, ample spice. A tasty dish I particular enjoy is the Masala Dosa. Based on my experience, I would recommend and look forward to rerunning back (Note - the front of shop has had a face lift and now shows a green paint work!).

The only positive thing about this place was authentic food . Extremely noisy , we were refused to be seated in a quieter area as they didn't want to serve due to lack of staff. The whole restaurant had a mouldy and dirty smell due to the type of furniture that was absorbed directly from the kitchen . Could do with improved decor and refitting.

I love this place so much that I have to return on every London visit. The aloo poori are at once crisp, cool, savoury and tangy. So fresh. . The dosa are delicious and substantial with refills of the yummy chutneys. All incredibly inexpensive too. The surroundings haven’t changed in 30 years. All pine panelling and metal cups like India, no concern for fleeting fashion. Just great mild South Indian goodness. Recommended!

I had very high hopes due to this being one of the first authentic Indian restaurants in UK. This restaurant is from the 1970s and is stuck in it and not in a good way. The decor is very outdated, the chairs are very uncomfortable and if you have a little one there is no high chair. The food is very hit and miss. We had mixed starter, dosa and thali. The mixed starter was too oily but taste was fine, dosa was alright but the thali was very average and not worth the price due to poor taste though the quantity was good. I also noticed for the first time ever that, the Pani Puri is literally just Pani and Puri and no stuffing. The menu is vegetarian only which is a big plus and is reasonably priced. The service is very quick too. I am sure the menu has some hits in them but there are misses too.

I noticed that many of the diners are regulars, one at an adjacent table who has eaten there for over thirty years! Stumbled upon this place after returning from a marathon HP Warner Brothers Studio tour. I had no idea this was one of the original Indian restaurants in central London and that we were in "Little India". Well, the food was absolutely on the money (this is London and good Indian food is just a stone's throw away at every corner but even still Diwana's food managed to surpass my expectations). We ordered a plain dosa, a thali and a palak paneer dish with chapatis for dine-in and some dahi bhalle chaat and Bombay Aloo Bhajee for takeaway. Food was scrumptious, service was impeccable (even though the hour was late) and the entire experience left me with wanting more but alas we could not return on our current trip. True gem this place!

I have never liked tarka dhal. My girlfriend however has eaten it since she was a baby. So whenever we try somewhere she’ll say, “Try a bit”, in the hopes she can one day convert me. Yet, I’m always reminded of why I don’t like it. At least, that was the case… It doesn’t feel particularly special or warm when you walk in. They sit you down, they don’t dare crack a smile or go to any great lengths like some places do. But it’s once you order and the food and the lassi’s arrive that you understand why they are packed. We ordered a Diwana Thali each. Every pot on that tray they served was interesting and well spiced. And that tarka dhal! Oh, it’s good. I didn’t really care for the desert and it’s texture, but it seems harsh to bring that up considering how good the rest of it was. If you ever find yourself near Euston or are willing to travel for a good vegetarian Indian, then this is the place.

We left without ordering. Having been sat at a rickety table in the middle of the floor, we were happily surprised when almost immediately the next door couple left paid for their meal and left. We immediately took the table. As the waiter approached, I asked him if it was ok and he looked me up and down like I was filth and said loudly so everyone in the restaurant could hear “it would have been good if you asked first” before lying and saying someone else wanted it. We offered to move back but he told us to stay. Funnily enough, even though we looked around ready to sit back at the original table, nobody seemed to be looking at the table as if they wanted to sit there! Whilst waiting for the menus which did not arrive, the people behind us commented on how rude and disrespectful the waiter had been and that they had done the same when they arrived but the waiter hadn’t been rude like that to them. They said they were leaving and offered us their table, but by then my friend who was waiting for the non existent service suggested we leave and go to the vegetarian Indian restaurant literally next door. I went to the till where the waiter was having a laugh with another waiter (and not serving us or anybody else) and told him his behaviour was disgusting and that he could have his table because we would not be eating there. We literally went to the next door restaurant It was like night and day - wonderful and attentive waiters, friendly service and gorgeous food. Unfortunately I can’t remember the name of the restaurant otherwise I would use this Tripadvisor to strongly recommend recommend that instead!

AVOID. We were sat in a corner table and after we settled the waiter came to take our order and rushed us to order as "it was busy time and he will need the table in 30 mins" while the restaurant was more than half empty. This killed our mood and we left in 10 mins after having two plates that we had already ordered even though we were hungry and would have ordered more otherwise. Food was okay. For many years the bel poori houses on Drummond Street have been a favourite of mine... but no longer living in London, I now visit infrequently but when I can. Last year, twice had an enjoyable meal at an establishment a couple of doors down from the Diwana - this time, thought I would go back to this place after such a long period away. It was the first bad experience of Drummond Street I have had. The food was awful. Tasteless, but for a bad greasy after-taste of cheap or over used oil. Little to no evidence of any fresh veg and only the faintest traces of any spicing... bland, poor quality food. I have never, ever, had anything like it on Drummond Street before. To make matters worse, the service has gone from once well-known stern to positively surly. it was as if the waiter was thinking - if you are stupid enough to eat here, this is what you get. It might have been a particularly bad day., but there should never be days like this in any self-respecting diner. So sad - such history and to come to this. I shall not be returning - there are other bel poori houses to take my custom to.

Love the buffet, now only on Friday lunchtimes and Saturday and Sunday for a few hours, for the enormous variety of vegetables, salads, poppadoms, pickles, breads, fruits and Indian rice puddings. At other times, superb dosas. Very nearly didn't go a couple of weeks ago after reading very poor reviews saying that it was now not good. Not sure what's going on but makes me very suspicious of reviews. We still loved the variety in the buffet and returned again on Friday, still good. What has changed is that it was much quieter. Wonder if reviews have put people off as don't feel food poor. I'm pretty fussy about food and feel the Diwana offers non processed meals at very reasonable prices.

It was a bit watery, towards the end I felt it was sickly sweet, that I struggled with the last few spoonfuls, despite it being a small dish. Wasn't much of a service, had to wait a while for someone to come and take my order, when I asked for the bill I was told to pay at the counter, despite others being bought their bills. Excellent food, great value and love being able to BYOB. Staff were very friendly. This isn't a fancy restaurant but that's reflected in the price and we probably enjoyed ourselves more.

food was okay. Price is pocket friendly but the waiter was rude. We asked for replaced glasses since they were not clean, waiter refused. When asked, waiter said that he didn't feel the need to change one of the glasses even though it was sticky.

The waiter was super rude and when we asked for water helse e picked the jug from someone else's table and then served with a finger in the glass and the glass was really dirty too and then when we asked to changed water, he straight refused us and then when asking for manger he said we can't get one..... Plz don't visit the place ... One of the worst place I have been in UK

Delicious Dosas on Drummond Street Great tasting South Indian dosas - perfect for a quick meal before catching the train from Euston. It’s worth making the effort to get past the HS2 works along the pedestrian route to Drummond Street. Authentic food (vegetarian) made by friendly people at a reasonable price. We will be back again next time we take the train home from Euston.

Last visited during the month of Ramadan. The carrot cake like desert was my favourite eaten with green tea after Iftar. The coconut flavour a second. I brought vegetable Samosas but they were 80% pot
