We were surprised when we entered the foyer and were directed through a traditional bar to the dining area, I guess previously where buffet breakfasts were served. All the staff very pleasant and helpful. Meal was good (we had a Groupon) although the samosa starter could have been hotter. Lamb Rogan and Butter Chicken very tasty. Poppadoms were strange, 1/2 a proper one then tiny crisp like ones. Rather strange tat they also did take away.

We picked this central London curry house at random made no easier by a raft of unhelpful reviews of this and seemingly all of the alternatives within a mile. We had a good experience so hopefully this will help others... We had a very good meal here as a group of six including two children (5 and 8). We were probably the first evening table at 6pm on a quiet weekday. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food came promptly too. The menu has all the typical English curry options on and we enjoyed everything we had. Price wise it’s very reasonable too in view of its central location. Would happily eat here again...

Went to this place because of reviews. One other table in and waiter was taking their order. Sat me down and whilst taking the other people’s order, three other people came in and were sat down. Waiter then took orders from other people and ignored the fact I had been sat there longer. Restaurant looked tired. Need refurb and more staff

Looking for Indian food in the area, I picked this restaurant on impulse after discovering it on a side street in Bloomsbury. I have no complaints. The food was not spectacular but it was good. I started with onion bhaji that was clearly freshly prepared, and deliciously seasoned, and followed this with a chicken korma and properly prepared basmati rice. The korma sauce was to my taste; more importantly the dish contained plentiful chunks of chicken breast. This is not a restaurant that skimps on the meat portion. I accompanied this very good meal with a small bottle of Cobra beer. The restaurant is simple, but tidy, the service a little haphazard. The person who seated me (the owner, I suspect) seemed a little officious. Other staff members were friendly but disorganized. But my food arrived with reasonable promptness. It was hot and tasty and the beer was cold. I'll be back

The food was good and the staff were initially friendly and we felt looked after. When it came to paying the bill we payed much more cash than the bill came to, expecting change and the opportunity to leave a tip. However the staff made no attempt to give us the change and when asked we were given no verbal reply. Just a visual intimidation, giving us no option but to leave short changed. Avoid this restaurant at all costs!

Maybe we are spoilt for choice in Australia, but this was the worst Indian we have ever had by far. The butter chicken tasted like coconut, despite the fact its supposed to be in a tomato sauce. The Korma tasted exactly the same as the butter chicken strangely. The portion sizes are lacking meat and are more disgusting sauce than anything. Do yourself a favour and avoid this Indian despite the cheap price!

Been here for the lunch menu twice before 3pm. Would recommend the Bhaji or aloo chat for starter, the bhaji is not oily and nicely spiced. Owner is genuinely friendly and food is tasty and affordable. Two two course meals and two big beers came to £20 in total. One of us picked rice and the other naan then we shared these sides so each of us had both, it was enough.

Went on a Thursday night, so busy but not full. Tables etc look a bit dated, but service was great and all food ordered by myself and my colleagues was great. Had 3 courses and my share was under 25 pounds.Only moan was the ice cream dessert looked and tasted like it had sat in the freezer for a while. Not really what you visit an Asian food place for though.

It's difficult to find an "independent" place to eat with so many cheap food chains in London, all with the same vibe/food styles. This little suburban restaurant had real fabric tablecloths and napkins, although the decor was a bit dated. Food was plentiful, tasty, well presented and reasonably priced. Not many other customers on a Mon night and staff were polite. It must be difficult for these little places to compete with the chains, so we MUST support them to keep our choices open.

The restaurant has too many tables on too little space, the rice was dry and mealy, and my butter chicken was cold and both looked and tasted like it had been heated in a microwave. It literally had a pool of oil/fat floating on top. The chairs were wobbly and ripped and it was just not worth it’s pricing.

A group of us had met up in a pub nearby one Friday night and came here for a curry. It is not a big restaurant and is clean upstairs. The toilets downstairs are not as good. There was 10 or 12 of us and as we had booked, we were seated instantly and offered drinks and popadoms. Having recently had a very good biryani, I decided to try a chicken tikka one. We ordered some bread, rice and side dishes. My biryani was good, but they could leave out the cucumber and tomato strips which I picked out and the sauce served on the side was not for me either. Terrible service from the very start, weren't greeted or approached upon entering. Unfortunately we drew the short straw and the nice friendly waiter that was there finished his shift as we got there leaving us with one who refused to speak English to us (even though he could speak English very well as we later discovered); we found this very rude and somewhat disrespectful. At this point before we'd even looked at the menu we were already feeling uncomfortable and wanting to leave and most certainly would've done so if it wasn't for time constraints. After we ordered, and we're waiting he began watching TV very loudly behind the bar which is rather unprofessional and although we weren't too bothered as we were happy to just talk over it; there was an older gentleman dining alone who we felt quite sorry for as it was clearly annoying him (it was extremely loud).Throughout the whole experience we literally had to get up and chase him or call out and shout to him to gain his attention. The one positive was the food was served promptly after ordering however it was cold making us thing that is was pre prepared and just left to sit there for when someone ordered it. The food was relatively nice considering it was cold, however it was 90% sauce. Don't come here if you're looking for substance. And most certainly don't come here if you're looking for good service or even to be treated like a human being. Will never come here that's for sure!!!

I decided to take a friend to the nearest Indian restaurant (18/05/2015) which was the Tavistock Tandoori. Google reviews gave it 4stars, so I knew i was in for something good. When we got in I realised how poor their customer service is. The staff speak their native language (I understood everything). The waiter argued with me becuase I asked for my naan to be served shortly after the mains are served. The poppadoms came out with the starters (not before). The lamb tikka I ordered was 4 lumps of hard rubbery old lamb with grissle. It was not hot. I continued eating the poppadoms but left the starters. My main was equally bad. Like Chirs' review (further down), it was oily and tasteless. I was promptly warned about the hot dish it was served in - in fact the curry came out warm. The korma my friend ordered had set by the time they served it.The food was the worst I have been served in a long time, and I have dined in many Indian restaurants, including all the restaurants in Brick Lane, some in Greenwich, Westferry, Stratford, Anerly, Brimingham, and Bristol. The Peshwari naan, which had to be reordered was the only thing that was nice.So bad was my overall experience with this place, that I have now created a tripadvisor account. I will have other reviews of places I visited, included the Raj Mahal in Bristol. Its just a shame my first one starts off with a negative. At least I am honest.Avoid this place if you can help - there are plenty of indian restaurants around.

I have eaten here / ordered a takeaway on several occasions. Why would I keep coming back, when I so obviously dislike it? Good question - but I have been desperate, I have taken my dad (who is not a foodie) and I can at least give you a negative review based on multiple trips. The food is oily, sub-standard and bland. I have eaten in dozens of Indian restaurants. This Bengali one is probably the worst. It gave me the runs. The muttar paneer tastes like a pudding. The saag is horrific - and such a small portion. The meat used is the cheapest, or certainly seems like it. The chicken karai is so ordinary, and full of oil. The chicken tikka is watery. The lamb dishes are chewy and poorly flavoured. The daal is particularly awful. The wine is diabolical. The beer is Carlsberg (need I say more?). The place is often empty. I cannot understand how it has managed to sustain itself in such a wonderful location - please try and avoid.

Popped in whilst staying at nearby George Hotel. I typically seek out different Indian restaurants as a change from the usual. This one didn't really hit the spot, although everything was generally fine - a little better than average, but not as good as most Indian restaurants I visit. Service was attentive and friendly though and a pleasant enough dining room. Just a feeling it could be a lot better without too much effort - not much needed to take things up a notch. However, probably wouldn't go again as there are better options in the area (e.g. try the 'Woburn').

From what I've heard, London's supposed to be famous for their fabolous Indian cuisine. With our hopes up through the roof, we visited our local Indian restaurant, which was Tavistock Tandoori. Upon arrival, everything seemed fabolous. The setting was just what you'd expect from a local London curry house, and the service was good. We ordered our food, and the waiter recommended drinks to go with that. However, my mother is allergic to chili, and when we ordered we made sure that my mothers dish, chicken korma (which shouldn't have any chili at all in it, if I'm not mistaking), didn't have any chili in it. The waiter assured us that there would be no chili in her dish. I don't know how to describe the ignorance that followed best, I simply just don't know where to start. First of all, the chicken korma was actually DECORATED with red and green chili. Luckily there was some other dishes at the table that she could eat from without actually suffering. At the end of the meal we pointed this mistake out to the waiter, who at first didn't understand our criticism. When we pointed out that the dish that's not supposed to consist of chili, and that we specifically asked about whether it consists of chili or not, actually DID consist of chili, the waiter replied: "that's not chili, that's red onions"! England is a country that's produced many great things, but (and please correct me if I'm wrong) I bet they haven't managed to produce the worlds first red onion that's actually both red and green, looks like chili and taste like chili (and even had someone that's allergic to chili react to this mysterious red onion)! Obviously the tip wasn't going to be big, mainly because of the fact that if my mother would've been more allergic to chili we would've had to spend the rest of our vacation in London at the local hospital. While we enjoyed the last of what was still in our glasses, they passed our table every 30 seconds while looking at us, to mark that they wanted us to leave as soon as we could, possibly because of the small tip we left them. Let me clarify that there wasn't a lack of service, the waiter did his job and I do not wish to put any blame on him. Right is right, there's nothing we can say about the service. But the fact that, what I suppose was, the manager actually stated the same fact as the waiter -- it wasn't chili, it was red onions -- made me realize that this restaurant is a danger. It's quite frightening to think that if someone with a more severe allergy would visit this restaurant, the manager can't even tell the difference between red onion and chili. Can they see the difference between a bean and a nut?(I just realized someone referred to this Indian food as "good quality Turkish food", so I guess I can't be that much wrong ...)

Two members of staff could surely see I had no food or drink! They did nothing.8.31 Put coat on, told staff I was leaving and would pay for food I had received and drink. Staff very argumentative, blamed me then subsequently blamed kitchen problems.Worst experience I have ever had in any restaurant in my travels across UK .Doesn't deserve a star. Never reviewed an establishment so badly.

We were fortunately that this small Indian restaurant was across the street from our hostel. We went in for a late dinner (10:00pm) on a Saturday night and the service was great. I got a chicken curry and my husband got a chicken masala and they were both amazing. The portions were perfect and the curry was delightfully spicy. We enjoyed it so much that we went there again the next night with a friend.

A great place for a bite to eat - good quality Turkish food - really enjoyed my lunch. And a good place to sit in and eat - good service

I didn't think Indian food could be so bad. The service was fine, but the food terrible - my starter - lamb korma was so tough it was almost inedible. the main course - chicken tandoori masala tasted mainly of sugar - couldn't even recognise the tandoori flavour. My 4 dining guests had a similar experience. Amazingly, the place was full. It was cheap though. I'd rather eat stale pizza.

The review of a solo diner after one visit is obviously of limited value, but as I was lured in by previous reviewers, I wanted to share my experience. I went into this small local Indian for quick, early dinner, and prices were generally what I expect - 10 quid for a lamb balti with white rice, a cucumber raita, and a small Kingfisher. Portions were reasonable, but just not that tasty. I had no desire to finish up the balti sludge once the lamb was gone, and the raita was just a token portion of tiny diced cucumber thrown into a thick, creamy yogurt (I didn't finish it either). If I lived in the area, I'd probably give it a second chance, making sure to order something completely different. But based on today's meal, I would've spent less and enjoyed it more if I'd just grabbed a pre-made curry from a supermarket.

Small indian restaurant but very popular. The food was excellent as were the prices and the service. Would definitely visit again!

This was my second visit to Tavistock Tandoori. For starters I had mixed kebab, which sizzling and very tasty: two pieces of lamb, two pieces of chicken and two kebabs. Very tasty. For main course I chose chicken biryani with a plain madras sauce with nann bread. There wasn't much chicken and the rice was greasy. But it tasted ok.The bill was £13.25 including a first coke and was good value for money. I would eat here again.

Nothing special, but quite acceptable. Buffet, so travellers can fill up if you're wanting to save costs.

Went here at lunch time after looking around all the different restaurants. Lunch time they do a set menu where you get a starter and main for £4.50. Food was fine, bargain at the price, and the soft drinks are only 60p each as well. One negative would be my prawn cocktail had warm prawns, but otherwise fantastic!

We wandering around with some friends trying to pick a restaurant and chanced upon the Tavistock Tandoori. After being seated, we realised it was the same restaurant we had happily visited with a large group on a previous visit to London. Our return visit was much the same - an extensive menu and all dishes were tasty and plentiful. There was an adequate drinks list and the prices for drinks like the food were quite reasonable. Decor wise - it is not upmarket but well above the cheap and cheerful category. A reliable local Indian place.

One of the things I really like when I come to London is real and good Indian food. This place is a bit on the pricey side but great food. (I would say it is almost as good as the old Piccadilly Cafe when it was open)

We took the meal set + 1 bottle of wine and it cost £18 each for 3 people. The food was very good and staff was very nice with us. Good place to go next to hostels! If you like balti food, you will love it.

Well worth a trip here. The food was great. Service a little shaky. We ordered our naan without butter slathered on it as usual. It came with butter. Our kids had already taken some onto their plates because they were starving. When we told the waiter, he took it back including the small pieces on the kids plates which to me is abusrd. Other than that, the food itself is really good and I will go back next time I'm in London. it's worth the trip! Romantic it's not, but when does one go to indian food for romance?

This little restaurant has good, freshly cooked food at very reasonable prices. We had a few very good Indian meals at the Tavistock during our stay and would happily recommend it to those who enjoy good food but don't want to pay the earth for it.The service is excellent and this little place deserves to have a lot more custom. Give it a go!

The food at the Tavistock Tandoori is nice and tasty and very good value for money. If you want a cheap eat, go there - especially with the lunch special. However, the restaurant itself is dark and in the evening it is deserted. When we have been there, some strange people were eating there. Not at all a place for a romantic dinner...

It's a take-away. The food is good, the prices lower than average, the reliability, in terms of things being ready when they said, has also been good. But the consistently unpleasant reception by the ...owner? got to be too much for me, and I will not return anytime soon.

Tuve unos bocados y me fui.

We reached out for relationship counseling, as the website mentioned services for ‘relationship issues,’ ‘conflict resolution,’ and ‘marital troubles.’ However, we were told that relationship counseling wasn’t offered, which was confusing given the website’s details. She didn’t suggest any related services, just declined us altogether. When we texted to clarify that the website might be misleading, the response was simply ‘okay. It would have been helpful if she had offered a service she does provide that pertains to relationships. If you’re looking specifically for relationship counseling, this may not be the right place.
