Tuve unos bocados y me fui.

We were drawn into Tandoori King by a posted menu promising inexpensive prices, "Lamb or Chicken Vindaloo-8.95". My wife just wanted an appetizer and water; I'd have a beer too. We reckoned on a tab of 30 pound or so. First the waiter asked us if we wanted certain extras, chutneys, naan, rice to go with the meal. He mumbled and was difficult to understand, did not speak English well, but led us to believe these were the usual accessories to the meal, no mention of extra charges. In fact each item - which we didn't even want- notched up the bill significantly. Then he insisted the appetizer my wife ordered wouldn't be enough for her and urged her to order the full plate instead. She acquiesced - and they brought out both items and charged for both; wouldn't take away the appetizer even when we said that she didn't need both, she'd only changed at the waiter's urging (might have been owner in this small establishment.) They gave us to believe the appetizer would not be charged us. When we asked for a little additional rice they charged us for a second order. Finally they added on a 12.5% "service charge" to the whole bill which then topped out over 54 quid. The whole episode was disgraceful and patently dishonest in my estimation. Food was OK for what it's worth, but customer beware!

I picked this restaurant because it seemed best value in the street and curry felt right. I was eating alone and I was treated to a conversation about the inadequacies of one of our party political leaders from people who knew him and on the other side the coming and goings of chambers. The food was good too.

A funny place this. I have been coming here for many years and the food seems to be based on a sinusoidal wave function. Unfortunately this time we found ourselves in a trough. Poor food, no music and no atmosphere. I recommended this place to a curry loving mate of mine and so it was one of those classic "it's not normally like this" excuses that I had to come out with whilst we were sitting there in the morgue-like atmosphere. We were the only people in there at 8.30pm on a Thursday night and they were probably using a waiter to do the cooking and had given the proper chef a night off. Chilli powder lobbed in at the last minute to create a Vindaloo and a Balti Chicken Jalfrezi that had raw onions and green peppers (but no chillies) thrown in on top - says it all. All in all a poor experience. So why the "3" marking and not a "1"? Simple, I have had some excellent meals there (and recently) and so you pays your money and takes your chance. It's probably worth the risk bearing in mind how busy and expensive restaurants in the area normally are.

I got here at 6pm on a Thursday. There was nobody in the restaurant and there was no music on. They did not turn on the music so it was me and one waiter sat there in silence. They turned on the music only when a group of customers came in. I ordered a sheek kebab, which was fine, and a buttered chicken. The curry was the worst curry I have ever had. I could not actually eat it. I asked for the bill, and requested they take off the service charge. I am a student, and I give a tip when I can afford it, but I could not on this occasion, plus I was paying for a curry that I did not eat. He told me he could not take it off. I pointed out it was discretionary and he said no, it was compulsory. I told him the menu states it is discretionary, and he said it states it is compulsory. I picked up a menu and showed him where it said discretionary. He said yes... compulsory. It took a lot of arguing to get him to finally remove the charge and this was embarrassing and just wrong.

A good deal here for lunch 12-3. £6.95 for the buffet. The tins contained (on various days) minced lamb and potato, prawn and green beans, chicken and spinach, potatoes and spinach, chicken curry, mutton curry. Always some tandoori wings, pickles, salads, two veg options. Nicely flavoured indian home cooking. I was quite pleased and the buffet option allows in and out within a lunch hour very comfortably. I ate here seven times in two weeks (working very close by as a temp) and found it reliably sound.

Have eaten here before and it is what it looks like an Asian corner café, it is clean and the staff fine, apart from the attempts at upselling.I sat down and I only wanted a simple evening meal, so being asked do you want a Cobra / Poppadum’s ?, I took as being a bit stereotypical. I just wanted a simple evening meal so ordered, water, Lamb Madras and a chapatti. I was told that the chapatti was very thin and did I want two – no, I ordered 1 (surprisingly I do know what a chapatti looks like), do you want rice – no. I think they just thought they could lump all sorts onto the offer and normally people just agree, as I said, I just wanted a simple meal. The food its self was good – It was that tangy gravy sauce which I like and the meat was well boiled mutton, again as I like it.Would I go there again – yes.

This is catergorically the worst restaurant I have ever been to!! I was visiting london on business and met a friend for dinner. Not knowing the area, we found this Indian restaurant close to our hotel. It was fairly late on a Monday evening, so alarm bells didn't ring when the place was empty - they should have!! We ordered chicken samosas to share, when they arrived and I bit into them to my disgust they were lamb which I can't eat!! The waiter apologised and brought chicken ones. Onto the main course, one curry came out that was the wrong one and we had to wait 15 minutes for a replacement, not ideal when you are dining together and one persons curry isn't there! The waiter kept blaming the chef saying that the owner was out and he doesn't know what the chef was doing! Finally when we got our bill, they had the cheek to charge a service charge!! I complained and said that it was awful, twice we got the wrong thing - to be told 'yes but you're not being charged for the wrong things!!' He finally agreed to take a whole £3.50 off and said he can't take anything else off as his boss will think it's something he has done and get into trouble?! The most apalling restaurant ever!!

Went with 2 friends, one of which had a tastecard, specifically the one on the card as they have now made this an option. We booked the table as normal, however when coming to ask for the bill they refused to take our tastecard as they wanted a hard copy one. They agreed that the virtual is valid, however said the bill would still be full price. We tried to explain amicably that you can now choose to have a virtual one, and they refused and walked off. When asking if we could speak to the manager they kept shoving another tables hard copy tastecard in our face saying this is all they are accepting. We chose to follow him up to the front desk.Trying to speak to the one we assumed the manager, as the others had repeatedly reported back to him on several occasions, he lied and said that the manager was actually 'outside' and all the waiters there were all the same. He then followed on by rudely speaking over us and openly refusing to listen to our side. When trying to sort out payment between ourselves they took the notes before we were even finished, and refused to let go of them! When booking, if they had specifically said they wanted only hard copies then of course we wouldn't have even booked, agreeing to be part of tastecard means that they should agree to take any form of the tastecard-hard or virtual. They were at fault, and should have kept to their end of the tastecard agreement. To finish up, it was the most shockingly appalling, rude, abrupt and undermining behaviour that I have ever come across, and will definitely never think of returning or recommending this restaurant.

I have never written a review before but after the worst restaurant experience I have ever encountered, I felt outraged, incessant and obliged to comment. My friends and I decided to go somewhere that was part of the tastecard scheme so we decided to choose this place which is pretty local to where we all work. After booking a table and asking 3 times whether they accepted the tastecard (once over the phone and twice when we had arrived) they assured us that they do. Thinking we'd get 50% off the bill we decided to have a look at the menu and ordered what we fancied. I'd like to add that when we entered, the restaurant was completely empty and as another reviewer below had pointed out, we should have taken that as a sign to leave. After eating, we showed them our tastecard (which was on my friend's iPhone) but they refused to accept it as it was not in card form and refused to give us our bill. My friend showed her driving licence and debit card to prove that her name on the tastecard matched. We also explained that the upgrade of the tastecard is no longer in card format. They still refused this. I honestly felt like they were trying to scam us. By this point there were other customers in the restaurant but the staff were happy to have a full blown argument with us in the middle of the restaurant. Does this sound like good customer service????? I THINK NOT!They spoke over us, gave us absolutely no chance to speak and then every time we spoke to them, they turned their backs to us and walked off. It all got very heated. I have never seen such rude behaviour. We asked to speak to the manager but he refused to come to us even though he was standing two feet away from us overseeing the whole thing. At this point, we had had enough, so we got up and put our coats on and then went over to the manager. The 'manager' had then claimed that the real manager was upstairs. Oh wait, now he was outside. They even had the cheek to tell us to get a tastecard (in card form), come back, and then they'd give us the 50% off our next bill!!! NO THANKS! If a restaurant chooses to be part of this scheme, it's absolutely necessary they know what the rules are rather than picking and choosing rules which are most convenient for them. We have used the tastecard in several restaurants before without any problems. After 45 minutes of arguing, they grabbed the money off our hands when we were splitting the bill amongst ourselves. They then refused to give the money back to us when we asked for it back to make sure that we had given them the right amount.I can't even rate this place as I was so disgusted by the service!!!!

Worst restaurant experience I have ever had! Phoned ahead to check they were accepting a deal and they said yes so booked a table. After asking for a bill they changed mind about the deal and was adamant on charging full price. Extremely rude staff (apart from one guy) not helpful, took money from our hands whilst we were splitting bill between us, talked over us when we were asking to speak to the manager and fobbed us off saying he was not available. They should not be allowed to pick and choose the terms of the deal if they have signed up to the scheme. They said they would offer the deal if we came back - no thanks! Would not return there. Food was mediocre at best.

Visited on a weeknight night with friends. It's in an ideal location with lots nice old pubs nearby and consequently filled up very quickly. The poppadoms and starters of onion bhaji and samosa weren't bad but the main courses were fairly rough. The chicken in the special I ordered was very rubbery and the large chunks of onion in the dish seemed not to have been cooked properly. My friends didn't enjoy their curries much either and the chicken tikka jalfrezi didn't look at all appealing. I found my choice to be oily, greasy and unsatisfying. Cost wise, I did think it was reasonable at £80 for three however.

Me and my boyfriend decided to try out the lunchtime buffet one Sunday afternoon. To begin with the selection was minimal and being someone who has tried many Indian buffets this was disappointing. There were no sauces either as 'you have to order poppadums' in order to have the sauces. Then we actually tried some of the food, the chicken wings and potato pakoras (which is all they had for starters) were cold. It was as if they'd been left out before they were put in the metal containers. It's was terrible. Then to top it off (and led to us leaving without even trying the main) was the waiter who was coughing over every plate, glass and meal he was bringing out. I couldn't believe the lack of consideration. It was disgusting, and knowing that he was involved in serving the food put me off completely. We told the waiter that he should be covering his mouth when he coughs but I don't even think he knew why we were so offended!Never going back there.

So a friend of mine and I decided to visit Tandoori Raj as she had a Gourmet Card (on her phone) with 50% off. As it was nearby to where we were, we booked for 9pm on a Saturday night. The corner position and central location should offer it ample opportunities for customers, but when we arrived it was completely empty. Automatically, the gut feeling is that we should have turned around but we walked in anyway. We were seated and started perusing the menu - the usual fare, with a section for chef recommendations that offered a few different dished. It gave us ample time to look at the interior - tables cramped up against the window, tacky looking tableware, and a TV showing Bollywood videos blazing in the background. So our order - plain naan, saag aloo, a prawn and crab curry, and a lamb vindaloo, washed down with a beer and coke - came out quick and the food was decent. It's nothing I'd write home about, and very similar to the multitude of restaurants you'd find in your neighbourhood. However, flavours were good, naan was freshly baked and it wasn't swimming in oil like some takeaway food. Only the rice was slightly disappointing - reheated and dry.The terrible part came when it came to pay. We mentioned to the waiter (1 of 2, with the other having disappeared). We mentioned our card and he came over with a handwritten bill, and we showed him the Gourmet card on my friend's phone. His response - 'Not the Gourmet Card. Need the actual card'.Now though there seemed to be a language barrier (I'm being nice here) he kept on insisting on seeing the plastic card, when you have the option to have the card on the app. A little more tete'a'tete and he waved us off, saying we needed to speak to the manager (the missing waiter).10 mins later he arrived, and communication was better. I asked if he was the manager. Affirmative. I asked if he believed the app showed the Gourmet card. He said yes. I asked if we could take up the offer then. He replied 'no'. He then said if we wanted to take this further I should speak to the manager, pointing to the 1st waiter.I'm sorry...so you believe it's the Gourmet card, you're the manager but now you're saying the other guys the manager??The exchange got more and more annoying as we carried on, with the 1st waiter insisting we needed to produce the plastic card to claim the discount. This went on for another 10 mins. Finally, exasperated, we showed him my friend's ID which matched the app. All of a sudden the waiter replied - 'Ok'.Really? You wasted 20mins of our time wrangling over the bill because you wanted to see ID? Well why didn't you just ask for that in the first place?!As I paid the 2nd waiter apologised, which is great as it does show he did care about service. But by the time he said 'It won't happen again next time' he'd already lost us. It's incidents like this that really damage a business, and I hope that the 1st waiter (who I suspect is the owner) leaves any customer interaction to his employee, otherwise I'm fully expecting to see a different restaurant in that location by end of year.

Poppadoms were strange, 1/2 a proper one then tiny crisp like ones. Rather strange tat they also did take away.

Amazing food as always, we've been coming here for 35 years. Simple decor, but amazing food!
