This place was warm and cosy site to the low lighting and use of candles, but was also really cool with lots of artwork; such as apainting of Pussy Riot. Good selection of beers.

Local brews such as Hackney Hopster on tap & plenty of bottled beers too at decent prices. Great street art-style mural by Tony Riff. DJ at weekend playing funky tunes, wasn't really my thing but didn't dominate too much.

Pubs in London that take dogs are not as easy to find as in the country. Meals can be pricier and atmosphere bland. But great news Dissenting Academy is none of those. Only went in and asked if they allowed dogs but lovely food, not expensive for London, staff friendly and Reggae music playing in the background gave it a great lunchtime atmosphere.Menu was part of the Cornwall Project, which promotes Cornish (non Pastie) food and whilst I initially thought the menu was small and limiting, that in reality was not the case. Everybody found something they wanted and 5 clean plates and one smiley dog later the evidence was clear. This wont be everyones choice of pub, but I would easliy come back and it felt like a good place to go for beer in the evening as well. Dogs allowed Children welcome Food excellentBit pricey (but that's London- think it seemed worse for me, I'm from a really small town, where you can get 2 roasts for £10 at most pubs lol) Beef roast - beautiful fillet steak, potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, cauliflower, loads of meat, autumn crush and greens. For £14 :) didn't have dessert as was sooo full but they sounded lovely too :) Would defo recommend for any age!!Was a bit loud in there due to the amount of people and music but suppose that can't be avoided :) Service was lovely, all staff really friendly :) Lovely decoration, really quirky! All in all, if I was in the area again of defo pay a visit. Think they change the menu all the time so it's all whether you get lucky or not!! Imagine you'd get Sunday roasts every Sunday :-)

New and fresh with amazing staff. Not eaten here but they pull a good pint of Guiness and it's got a good buzzy atmosphere without being overly busy on the days that I have been. plenty of seating. This is a place to meet a few friends and catch up. 30 - 40 year old crowd of good looking and easy going crowd. This is my new local.

Called in at the Dissenting Academy looking for a lunch of some description and was extremely pleased to find that this place serves a decent pint and an excellent Sunday roast. Great food, nice ambience well-kept beer and a decent wine list. What more could you ask for? Well worth visiting.

We have been here three times now on a Sunday lunchtime and each time the food has been good, twice we have had the roast dinner, served with all the extras. The pub like the staff is a bit eccentric and adds to the unique charm of the place and we like it.

The DA is our local pub and it's a great place to come and relax with a good choice of seating options if you're wanting to eat, relax on a sofa or drink at the bar. The pub quiz is of excellent quality - but I would say that because we won it.

I love that this place even exists and is called the Dissenting Academy: honouring the noble history of radical thought and activism in this corner of North London. Newington Green nurtured Mary Wollstonecraft, Daniel Defoe and many of the early figures in the founding of the USA. The famous Unitarian chapel is still there, and if you search hard you can find a plaque on the wall of the primary school remembering Mary Wollstonecraft. Local people are campaigning for a statue of her to be placed on the green. There is a big picture of her hanging in this pub, as well as portraits of an eclectic bunch of other dissenters. But is it any good as a pub? Thankfully, yes. There are comfy chairs as well as pub tables, a good selection of beers and wines, board games, a regular quiz night and decent food. In fact, my mushroom risotto was spot on: good hearty flavour, well cooked rice with just the right balance of bite and tenderness, lots of rocket and parmesan shavings. And I beat Mr HackneyMum at scrabble. What's not to like?

I recently visited The Coronet on Holloway Road, and it’s such a fascinating pub with a lot of history. It used to be a Savoy cinema, and much of the original decor is still intact. The high ceilings and beautifully preserved walls really give it a unique and nostalgic feel. There are also plenty of old photos displayed, showing its history as a cinema over the years. As it’s a Wetherspoons, the food and drinks are affordable and cheerful, making it a great spot for a casual visit. They’ve even got a lovely outdoor seating area in the garden at the back, which is a nice touch. It’s definitely worth a visit, even if just to admire the decor and soak in the atmosphere. Highly recommend checking it out!
