Highly rated place based on what my friend and I experienced. Rather factory atmosphere where everything is organized to increase the bill. Visit the bar before being at the table to buy drinks... Fortunately our cocktails were very good, with or without alcohol. In terms of dishes, the "small plates" were good, especially the sweet potatoes with a yogurt sauce. For the dishes, the waitress presented the chicken makhani to me as not very spicy after I told her that I was not too used to spicy food. When tasting I only smelled the pepper to the detriment of the other flavors, which is a shame. The accompanying rice was bland and not very well cooked. The lentil Dahl was too creamy. My friend didn't like it. However the waitress was lovely and deducted the dish from the bill. The naans were good although lacking in softness. Overall it's not the best Indian we've made in our lives. We don't think it's worth the 1 hour wait outside and the price paid (with the "optional" service charge), around £42 per person. The servers are lovely though.

I have been to Dishoom many times before but never visited the king’s cross one before. We went there with couple of friends on Friday night without any reservations . From our previous experiences we were expecting a long queue and long waiting time however there wasn’t a long queue and we oy had to wait 10-15 minutes which we were offered umbrella and Chai tea. We had to wait in the bar for our table to be ready so we decided to order some drinks.didn’t wait long for the table so we order a selection of dishes which all arrived warm. The taste was so authentic and everything was freshly made. We loved almost all the dishes however some were too salty for our liking specially one of us had high blood pressure so couldn’t really enjoy as much as we did. Towards the end of the meals , we were approached by a manager ( I think) who were so friendly and bubbly, to see how was our meal in which we replied we enjoyed most of the dishes specially Daal however the salt was a slight issue for us but nothing major . When we asked the waiter for the bill and the manager came back with the bill to explain that he has taken off some meals from our bill and he also packed us a portion of Daal to take home. We didn’t expect for any of that as we didn’t even complain just giving him our review on the food as he were asking us. So this was so kind of him and showed a high standard of the customer service. Our favourite food and drinks were Daal. Chicken biryani and Chai Punch. 5 start food and Service so we will be visiting them soon again.

We had a 40th birthday party and were 18 people in total. A set menu was served to share and the food and service was fantastic. Even the oval shape of the large table all 18 sat at made it much better for people to chat. I highly recommend Dishoom for its food and atmosphere. We visit the one in Covent Garden often for breakfast.

From the moment we got there there was some nice touches. Was told 45 minutes wait while in the queue outside. Was offered warm mint tea which was nice then was moved inside to the permit room after 10 mins. Offered water then dri ks brought to the table. Drinks came and then taken to sit at the dining table upstairs, 25 mins total! The place smells amazing and the atmosphere was buzzing. Alliria was our server who knew the menu and helped with how much food to buy. Food was excellent. Will definitely go back. Oh, drinks weren't bad either!

Took my daughter and friend to this place. My second visit in a very long time. Was very disappointed with the prices, and the food quantity in relation to this. Verdict very overpriced for basic Asian food. The good was tea was bottomless. Chicken Muglai was such a small proportion and slightly overcooked. The Mutton Pepper fry was nice, and the garlic naan did not taste like garlic naan, also smaller than a typical garlic naan and pricier. Rumali roti smaller than a typical rumali roti. The service was very nice. Shame the price n proportions are not balanced

We were early but were shown to our table. We asked for a better table and were accommodated with no problem. The food was delicious, with plenty of varied flavours, which were all discernable. The menu looks overwhelming at first, but your server will help you choose, should you need it.The only slight problem we had was that our beer (canned) was not chilled enough and our glasses were warm. Our server solved the problem with an ice bucket and 2 chilled glasses. The Dishoom service is gold standard in hospitality. The staff we’ve seen in 3 branches so far, are all friendly, efficient and seem to be very well trained.

This restaurant knows how to wow the customer with both food and service! Marcin is an amazing server, and he pays close attention to the requests from each table. We ordered black daal and a few naans, the daal was worth the 45 min wait for the table and another 45 min wait for the food to reach our table. They offer both tea with milk and mint tea while you wait in the queue for a table, the hot tea works magic in cold weather.

Don't get me wrong, it's "okay" place to get some meals. However, I cannot say it really worth so. 1. Long queues. We were waiting for about 2 hours to get INTO the restaurant. Then we went downstairs to order some drinks, while we were waiting for our table (another queue, lol) for another 30-40 minutes. 2. It was quite dark in the restaurant, and a little noisy, I didn't even hear people nearby me. 3. The food is mediocre. For the price it's "okay" portion size, yet, I'd balance the flavor of the meals differently. As such, the spiciness of the lamb removes the taste of the meat, while for rice the spice was nice.

Fantastic experience, our first time at Dishoom. Service staff were impeccable, especially our waiter, Nasir, who went out of the way to give us a discount and cake for our birthday celebration. Food was fantastic, although some of the items marked as spicy were not spicy and the ones that weren't marked spicy actually were - not sure how that worked, but it made some of our guests a bit uncomfortable. It's a lovely restaurant with beautiful decor and interior design, but it can be quite overwhelming at first - spaces can be tight, with lots of people. However, you get used to the environment and it ends up being enjoyable. Would definitely return!

A lovely setting, with a unique ambience. Seeks to try to bring the traditions and heritage of India, particularly Mumbai to the UK. Very pleasant and polite service. Scented with incense sticks to invite one to experience the restaurant through all the senses. The food, utensils used and decor all seek to take one back to original Bombay. The chai is fantastic and albeit expensive, the bottomless nature makes it worthwhile. The food itself is arguably expensive for what it is, particularly if one knows that it can be recreated quite modestly but given the restaurant location and overheads, is perhaps somewhat justifiable. The real differentiator is the personal service, which makes one feel at home. Vegan and vegetarian options are surprisingly somewhat limited (and there are cheaper and more varied offerings easily available throughout London) considering that Indian cooking fundamentally champions these specialities. Worth a visit for the novelty.

The food was good, I will call it “fancy” Indian dining experience. The restaurant was a beautiful restaurant… I feel like the food suits white people more than brown people like me 😆 We had heard about the “Makta ring” so when we asked for it, they didn’t have more in stock. So we didn’t get one. We even asked about if we could play the game since it’s their fault that they didn’t have the ring, and they said that it’s not possible.. BE CAREFUL: AUTOMATIC 15% UPCHARGE It’s a nice restaurant with good food and really lovely staff, but I was surprised at the end by an unexpected charge on the bill. There were two charges listed on the receipt, the actual total and then a second higher amount that included an “optional 15% tip”. When paying with a credit card, customers are automatically charged the higher price. That’s not optional then, is it? There is no assurance that this tip actually goes to the wait staff. This practice made me think twice about going there again.

He was chatty and helpful with questions we had about what to get. The food was okay, but not one of the most memorable Indians that I've had. Everything on the menu is pretty expensive, but it's in the middle of London which is to be expected so we didn't mind that. However, I always get disappointed when restaurants add a service charge automatically - of 12.5% too. The food was already expensive and customers should be free to decide if and how much they want to tip, it's always disappointing to see this 'optional' charge added as it's embarrassing to ask for it to be taken of.

The restaurant was packed - uncomfortablely so - our little table for 2 was in the middle of a run so had no room to move - the music was loud - it was hot and the food - well it was ok. Service was excellent. It was clear though they were packing them in and moving you through quickly - and the quality was mediocre. Not a plesant environment - a bit like school dinners. Food was ok, their breakfast is alot better than their lunch and dinner options. The waiting system is a joke even when we had a table booked. The place is massive and so busy. Not really a relaxing atmosphere. More just about volume and making money. Our waiter was "ok" but decided to overcharge us when it came to the bill, apparently he can't read figures on a receipt. Sort out front of house and get competent colleagues and stop the stupid optional service charge and then maybe you have a decent restaurant

The food was outstanding (obviously) and came so quickly! They had a full house but it didn’t feel overcrowded, and everything was just seamless. Dishoom staff are just leading the way with seamless, consistent and truly memorable experiences.

The food is excellent and the atmosphere good. However the queuing system- making people wait out in the cold for ages, before being shunted to the bar for even more waiting- while refusing to take reservations, is really poor customer service. Moreover, while the food is tasty, the portions are small and it's pretty expensive. I don't think it's worth the money. Dishoom could be really good, it's nearly there, but it misses the mark for me and I can't recommend it. Not worth the long wait in the cold or the price once you're in. Visited 9pm Thursday evening in February.

We had a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong wait before we were given a table, it almost felt never ending. We particularly went there for their Jackfruit Biryani and it was worth the wait. Although I was expecting for more Parsi/irani food options, such as papeta pe edu or Dhansak. As for the ambience, it was reminiscence of a typical Irani restaurant in Mumbai. Service was great too.

Very easy to book, absolutely wonderful staff from being welcomed, seated, walked through the menu, food service and paying the bill. Great bustling atmosphere with a cosy vibe. The food was absolutely delicious and it was hard to chose from all the wonderful options on the menu. Would definitely recommend!

For my money the best breakfast in London. Maybe the UK. If you're reading this and haven't yet had a breakfast naan and a chai, you must change this. Specifically to Kings Cross, the staff were absolutely wonderful from start to finish. This is a well-oiled team of professionals that make you feel at home, and actually cared about. We were seared quickly, talked through the entire menu, asked about our day, and delivered our meal quickly. Absolute perfection. Cannot emphasise that enough. The food itself? Double bacon naan is a winner for newbies, but I recommend the wrestler's naan - sausage, bacon, egg. That chilli jam is to die for. You can't go wrong with anything here though.

What a fantastic place to eat out: great building, atmosphere and super food. My biryani was delicious and the cheese naan simply has to be sampled! Highly recommended.

Disappointed with the sugar content of the food and drink. Two dishes out of five (grilled paneer, chicken biryani) were excellent. Everything else tasted like it had copious amounts of sugar added. There is already sweet dried fruit in many of the dishes, which is fine. But sugar added to sauces and dressings on top of naturally high sugar ingredients, makes them almost inedible for my palate and ruined what would have been good food otherwise. The grilled corn, broccoli salad, chutneys and a cocktail were all things I could not eat due to them being so sweet. Usually this is a cheap trick used to make poor quality food in British Indian restaurants more palatable- but the ingredients in Dishoom are basically good. Leave them alone and cool it with the sugar! Ditto the cocktails - used to love a permit room drink, and whilst flavoured syrups always featured highly, they used to be well made and well balanced. Sadly I don’t think I’ll be ordering cocktails here anymore as high quality spirits again seem to be drowned in sugar. We both had classic sugar crash symptoms post meal - very tired and hungry again 1-2 hours afterwards. Not what we are after as we were looking for tasty but nourishing food as a treat, and are trying to avoid poor quality sugars for our health. Will have to avoid Dishoom in future, sadly.
