If you want to pay a 15% Service charge then visit this restaurant. It is important to note that this information is on their menu (but doesn’t stand out) and it wasn’t mentioned when we ordered. While discussing this point with the manager. It was clear that he had no interest in taking our viewpoint on board - he actually suggested us having a takeaway instead next time! Such a shame that this very poor customer service has now lost them two customers. We have been here before (a few times) and never had this problem. I feel that in making a compulsory service charge is unreasonable- especially at 15%. I’m sure this additional charge will make people think twice about spending their limited money on a nice evening meal. Such a shame that the manager didn’t seem to respect our opinion.

I can definitely see the issues that others have raised about service, but I think that may be a generational thing: I think I recognise the character that others may have encountered, and perhaps he’s just an old school maitre d’ who wants to run a tight ship and perhaps isn’t used to modern sensibilities? I think this place is a bit of a hedgehog: prickly on the outside but lovely and soft once you’ve peeled away the exterior. I didn’t find the food very spicy so I guess one may have to request an extra kick if that is desired. Everything has a slight sweetness to it, in fact. The Dipali Boti Puri starter had very succulent and tender meat. Portions are on the generous size and the biryani is particularly huge: enough for two! The biryani sauce is like nothing else I’ve had before, more like a chutney or salsa than a curry. That’s not a criticism; probably just an idiosyncrasy of this place that has been central to the community for probably 40 years.

This is a terrible restaurant. Avoid it at all costs. The waiters were rude and acts like you're inconveniencing them for being there. We paid £125 for 3 people’s meal that were barely edible. It was lunchtime. We had just visited Alexandra Palace and were like looking for some indian food nearby. What a mistake! They were serving rotten salads and may be the chicken was cooked at least two weeks ago. Almost anywhere else would have been better. I don't know whether it was the fact that the food was listed under veggies or that there was a 10% service surcharge on top of the inflated prices or that soft drinks cost £10. I don't know whether it was instant glare we got when we entered the restaurant which made us feel unwelcome, the snappy and rude 'No' response when we enquired whether they had any vegan meals. I don't know whether it was the hieroglyphic bill designed to confuse us on leaving or the scared and silent faces of the several fellow tourists also incarcerated alongside us. We made good our escape and paid someone to let us out of the front door (leaving our card details would have been too risky)! We can only hope that those we left behind, later managed to find safe passage out, possibly when the guard's backs were turned by means of some distraction. The cheapest possible food at the highest possible prices, effectively a greasy spoon masquerading as a restaurant. The only plus-side was my indian curry looked like a poked face! 😐

I haven’t been to this restaurant in over 30 years, but I knew the food was good, so I took my disabled mum for a meal as it was local. All I can say is the food is still good but the service really wasn’t. A waiter took the drinks order with no issue then returned for the food order. I asked for one tandoori salmon and three papadoms as starters and to all come together. Within 30 seconds the papadoms turned up. I said, oh is the salmon ready too then? “No” he said. I reminded him that I asked for both to come together. He said, “oh so you don’t want the papadoms?” I said not yet, so he took them away. Approx 15 mins later, another member of staff arrived with the trolley with the salmon, two main courses, rice and bread but no papadoms. I asked why he brought both courses at the same time, he said because he was told we wanted everything together. Now frustrated, I repeated what I asked, so he gave us the salmon and walked away. I asked where the papadoms were, he said, in a fairly arrogant tone, I was told you didn’t want them anymore. I said, “For Christ’s sake, listen to me, why is this so difficult?” he interrupted me and threw two empty plates onto the trolley (luckily, they didn’t break). A different member of staff (I now know was called Hussein) came over and politely asked if there was a problem? I asked if he was the manager to which he replied, “No, that man is” (pointing to the man who lobbed the plate). Not only that, the manager rudely told Hussein to go away. Totally uncalled for as he came to try and resolve the situation. I asked the manager why he was getting upset and throwing plates around when the problem was clearly not my fault. His reply was, “If you don’t like it, I was free to leave.” He then walked away and clearly instructed the other waiters to serve us. I asked for Hussein to be our waiter for the remainder of our meal which he obliged. Just be wary of the manager who clearly has no people skills and, in my opinion, Hussein should be the manager as he clearly knows how to deal with people and situations properly. He also apologised as we left. The food is superb, but the service and attitude of the manager is woeful. My mother, who thoroughly enjoyed her dinner said, “We was definitely not manager material. People only go to restaurants for good food AND good service and if one or both fail, people are unlikely to return and we definitely won’t be.

Good food and nice selection, decent size portions. Friendly and helpful staff. Great value, would definitely visit again.

Arrived for 8.30 reservation Waiter x2 made every effort to avoid eye contact like they were experts at avoiding customers. After asking got some poppadoms at 9.15 Drinks at 9.30 Ordered food at 9.45 Meal arrived at 10.25 Ate there twice 1st time I allowed the time warp 2nd time sums them up. Taste of raj next door just as nice food, prompt service and you get served same day!!

First visit to this local restaurant with friends . Warm welcome and genuine. We all totally amazed with the quality and taste of all of our starters and mains . Great portion size and the mushroom rice is the best I’ve had ever. For a Tuesday night out we all had a good laugh and chat about the great world and the food that we all enjoyed. Nice but some areas for improvement. Firstly, I’ve never had a Masala tea without visible spices and then in the tiniest cup ever wow. Service is quite slow and they struggled to cope with the groups in the restaurant, including ours of 7 adults and 2 children. Customer service training is needed for newer staff members, ‘I can only tell you what I know’ instead of saying let me check with my manager is truly outlandish. Menu is too long and you need about 30 mins to read it properly What went well…? The flavours!!! Yes yes yes!!! Chilli garlic naan and Sag Paneer combo was what I needed in life. Mushroom rice, fried rice, tikka, murghi boona, korma, lamb dishes my family ate. Everything was yummy and flavoursome. Excellent portion sizes. Popadom just the way we need. Worth a visit (in a small group) and take away

Worst customer service ever doesn't even know how to talk to customer over phone. Very rude …. Waiter and waitress both standing like a robot have zero sense of greetings. The food was amazing . We ordered a lamb biryani with hot sauce . The customer service was alright , they criticized my Bengali friend and said how is this white guy talking our language . Also whilst we were eating , waiter kemal kept on looking at us making us very uncomfortable. I would reccomend to not look at people when they eat

Never go for this resturant, timing they say itnis open upto 1130pm, we went at about 10.50pm late as raining heavily and stuck in traffic , thinking we can have food all the way driving there, they said no and if u want takeaway we can. They shud specify dining is only upto this time and takeaway upto this time, will never bring friends or family here and we can go elsewhere.

Dipali did not disappoint. We were a party of four that booked at the last moment on a Saturday night. The staff were accommodating and friendly and although the restaurant was busy, the noise level was low and we could talk without raised voices. The food menu was comprehensive with the normal favourites in addition to house specialities and vegetarian options available. The food was served hot with individual flavours to each dish. We all said how good our own dishes were and so ended up trying a little of each other’s (Youtube: “Smithy’s Indian takeaway rant, Gavin & Stacey” - would not have been pleased!). Mixed grill, madras chicken, thali plus the usual bombay aloo, nan and papadoms etc. we certainly didn’t come away disappointed. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Have used this restaurant for years but was disgusted with the meal I ordered this evening. Chicken tikka starter!! Not cooked in that way completely unflavoured with green tinge . Clearly some chicken taken from remains of buffet . Chewy inedible. As was the chilli chicken naga . Could have bounced chicken off of wall . 17 years using this restaurant..YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED!!

Very nice. Tasty good with good portions! Honestly think it’s the best in the area. My only build would be that for delivery it would be a nice touch to have a free popadom and mint sauce (most takeaways do this) but the food is still excellent

We have been to Dipali a few times and I can't recommend it enough. On our most recent trip we ordered the chicken tikka massala, tandoori prawns, paneer tikka, and some nice vegetable and rice dishes. They were all absolutely delicious. Great sized portions and attentive, friendly service in this local favourite. If you are anywhere near Palmers Green you must try a Dipali curry!

Always such a great meal here! Such amazing curry full of flavour and cooked to perfection. They said the charming owner has been in hospital and that’s why he hasn’t been there, but the other waiters are still good at recommending dishes in his absence. Everything is always so tasty and I dream about their tandoori prawns!

I am so shocked to see any bad reviews here! The food is consistently so good, maybe people need to improve their ordering skills haha. The shatkora ghosht is incredible as are all the other lamb dishes, so soft. The chicken tikka massala is the best in London, absolutely to die for. The King Prawn dhanksak is also delicious and perfectly hot. Love this place!!

We visited the Dipali on a Sunday lunchtime because they used to do a lovely buffet - Eat as much as you like. They've stopped doing that now and do a set meal from the menu for £12.95 instead. We could choose a starter, a main dish, a side dish, bread and a choice of a rice dish from their quite extensive menu. We ordered: Murghi Tikka - Tandoori Murghi - Lamb Madras - Prawn Dhansak - Sag Aloo - Cauliflower Bhaji - Plain Naan - Plain Paratha - Coconut Rice - Pilau Rice. The food was absolutely delightful we couldn't find fault with anything that we were served. We both enjoy spicy food, the Dhansak and Madras were just right for our palate and the vegetable side dishes were so tasty. We had difficulty eating the amount of food that we ordered and the staff were kind enough to supply containers so we could take it home. All in all, we were very happy with our visit to the Dipali. The staff were very attentive and we enjoyed an excellent Indian meal which we considered to be excellent value for money. Thank you Dipali. 10 out of 10.

Been in better Indian restaurants for food and service. Quite abrupt staff and not attentive to customers. My friend and I had empty glasses and he asked for a drink while I looked at the menu. He only brought one drink and walked away without asking me if I wanted a drink. The food was mediocre despite the certificates on display. I would not go back.

First time visiting here, very busy for a Thursday night which is a good sign. Above average Indian food, reasonably priced. Chicken Shashlik was very good as was the naan. The Roti wasn’t as good so would avoid ordering that. Overall 4/5

It used to be really nice but lately we are not enjoying the food. Sometimes dry, sometimes overcooked. Deserts are the same all the time, directly from the freezer.. And I am not talking about ice creams . A bit boring.

Would have loved to have visited this restaurant but after making a booking for Sunday lunch and calling the restaurant on the day to confirm we arrived to a locked door and a closed sign. No phone call to let us know that the restaurant will be closed. Overall disgusting customer service. I called to ask why this had happened and there response was “yes we decided to close” avoid avoid avoid!!! A complete waste of time travel to get here.

Food is totally disappointing, worst Indian food I have eaten. very average and tasteless. Naan too chewy and I would assume not being home made which is very disappointing for an Indian restaurant, or if home made, then very badly made. Chicken curry tasteless, too thin, rice washed after cooked probably, and under cooked. The food is hit and miss , more miss than hit though. I cannot recommend this restaurant. first time came with a friend , second time take away, never again! Which is all a shame, as it is very close to me. But would not take anything from there anymore.

In July I went with a friend. I took lamb curry rogan yosh which was decent, I took some other things too such as Bombai potatoe which was horrible, but what was most disappointing for me was that naan didnt seem to be home made, it was too chewy to have been home made! My friend took another lamb curry at the suggestion of the waiter, aside the fact that she didnt like his choice( too much sugar/cinnemon in curry) the meat was not well cooked and we could not eat it , either of us. same problem with her naans. price was ok though. But I wouldnt mind more expensive if the food was good!! I gave them another chance Later in August I took a take away and it was the worst chicken curry I have ever eaten! sauce was too thin and no taste and rice was probably washed in water after being cooked, it was sooo tasteless even though it was with veggies! what can I say, I gave 2 stars just cause first time it was not expensive and my curry was not bad. Never again! Food is totally disappointing! How come so many stars in reviews?! maybe it was good before, but in 2021 not anymore!! I do not recommend at all!

Had my first takeaway from here last night at a friends house! I’ve never tried this Indian before but my friends had.. My tandoori mixed grill was delicious! Nan bread was huge as well! All the meals we had were of a high standard! Absolutely enjoyed 🙂

have been trying fair few indian places in area ... for that authentic indian taste without skim of ingredients...this one found to be best option...also admirable they are long running business from 70s keeping up the standard...this is how lot of long running businesses in india kind of operate..low profile but churning out quality.

Originally wanted to order from Winchmore Hill tandoori. I ordered the Gosth kata masala from there and it was delicious. I asked dipali if they make Gosth kata masala...he said lamb tikka masala. I just assumed it was aka...it wasn't. The lamb was dry and the sauce has not settled well. Others enjoyed different meals. The rice was not good. The naan, poppadoms and chutney was good. Tbh surprised about the high ratings. Maybe just stay away from masala dish

Absolutely loved Dipali!! Amazing food and great service. Definitely try it out if in the area. The range of food means you will not be disappointed and will leave feeling more than satisfied 😊

Of the many Indian restaurants in this area the Dipali stands out. They have a lot of dishes that aren't available elsewhere, and each is so full of flavour. The seasoning is authentic and nothing feels generic. The tikka paneer arrives sizzling on a hot plate and is delicious. I have asked for dishes to be made to order on occasion (a makhtani sauce dish for example) which they have always done happily. Their Tarka Daal is perfect. Prices are fair for the quality. Whether eating in or as a takeway we have enjoyed every meal there. It gets busy on Friday and Saturday nights so booking is advised.

While I do not live in the UK currently, I have been visiting this place whenever I visit. Been going to this place for almost 30 years. Always great service, plenty of food, well seasoned. Always makes me homesick!

This must be my 20th time at Dipali and even though I moved to Hackney, I still make the trip any time I want a curry. The food is to DIE for, big portions and reasonably priced. The highlight has got to be the prawns, can’t go wrong! The staff are so friendly and the owner always gives us such a warm welcome. We made the most of eat out to help out and got 50% off food too. Can’t recommend enough, I’d give this 6 stars if I could!

It had been twenty three years since my wife and I visited Dipali. Our experience then was of lukewarm food arriving late. Surely things had changed? I took the time, and the offer to, "eat out to help out" to find out. This was a weird, déjà vu experience. A direct comparison is difficult but in terms of world beating languor, the service second time around tops the league. The serving staff were few in number and uninterested, not a welcome, not a hint of a smile. (Of course, when you go in you don't know at that point that they have nothing to smile about.) We waited fifteen minutes before ordering. Our starters arrived twenty minutes later. Food OK. Another forty minutes and continual prompting of staff who'd clearly rather be watching Netflix (good choice, I'd say) and our mains arrived. Again the food was decent apart from a barely warm, doughy nan. Our joy at having something to eat was not to last. Our neighbouring table, diners who arrived right after us, had had nothing at all to eat in over an hour. Not a smidgen, not a complimentary poppadom, not a pickle. Somehow, they were placid and took this stoically as if mentally shrugging it off as part of life's cruel tapestry. They did get served, eventually, but any pleasure we had in wolfing down our curry was marred by an occasional glance at their hungry faces, the smells of our food having elicited a Pavlovian reaction. So, you think, "this can't get worse; we're eschewing dessert so can make off quickly". No. Paying was such a trauma that my son and I eventually left my wife in the till queue and walked home while she followed later in the car. The problem? Another unfortunate diner was having a debate on the bill - particularly, the Government discount. Bizarrely, the till man couldn't work it out. He believed that the unfortunate diner got half price on either the soft drinks or the food, but not both! This particular interpretation defies common sense yet on he ploughed, trying to charge half price on the cokes and full price on the food. It was then a fuming diner revealed himself as a fuming trading standards officer. No, you could not make this up. So, in sum, if you're looking for joyless service, sullen atmosphere and enough time to get through a sizeable chunk of War and Peace, this is the place to go. Anything else and you'll have a terrible night. Just avoid. Life really is too short.

Sunday 16/02/20 9:30 reservation. Poor/bad attitude, unprofessional approach, average food and service. My partner arrived for a 9.30 reservation, I arrived five minutes late and apologised,only to be given a bad stare and no greeting. The manager/waiter stood near our table staring with a bad look throughout almost the entire meal making us feel uncomfortable. There were no other customers in at the time and they claim they close at 11.30 on their website, so plenty of time not to keep them their late. Food was average and after a few minutes we asked for the bill and for the food to be packed up for takeaway as we felt so uncomfortable and unwelcome. Will not go back if we can help it.

A traditional good Indian restaurant with a big selection of delicious food and friendly service

Had a big family meal here, the food was lovley but we didn't all end up eating at the same time. We were a big group so I can understand it was difficult though. Dissapointing that there were no highchairs for kids and no changing facility for babies at all. Ended up having to change babies nappies on the floor of the restaurant 😬 Gluten free food was made specifically to order and was delicious so I can't fault them on that.

Very poor Service, wouldn’t recommended the salmon for starters the main was nice, when mentioned that the salmon didn’t seem fresh and tasted gone off kamal Hussain who worked there was rude replying us but I feel it did taste gone off and we had the right to say so, kamal didn’t like it and was rude to us.all the staff seems very unfriendly. We had very fond memories of this restaurant as we used to come here many years ago but as we moved away we hadn’t come of a while and was hoping to see the owner as he was a very lovely too but unfortunately he wasn’t there the food and service used to be amazing but the service has really gone down, it’s a shame the owner wasn’t around as he was very nice and I’m sure that doesn’t even know how the staff talk to customers when his not around. Won’t be coming back

We have been to the Dipali a few times and on our recent visit were really impressed . We ordered chicken Madras and Chicken Tikka Massala with some nice vegetable and rice dishes. All dishes were really delicious with nice size portions and friendly service. If you are anywhere near Palmers Green this is the place for a great curry

Gorgeous food. One of the best Indian restaurants in North London

I use to dine in this restaurant almost on a weekly basis with friends before we all settled down, but always remembered how good the food was and till this day it has not disappointed. Even the bottle of wine was great and our Irish coffee to finish off. Brought back good memories, will definitely make it more regular again.

Friendly staff, very nice food offered in a decent variety, to cater both for veg and meat eaters, served in a very nice ambient. The Sunday lunch buffet is well worth it too.

Very old fashioned curry house...established from 1972. Food was reali nice... Chicken chat puree was reali reali good! Would recommend!

I've been coming here for decades. The food is always tasty and delicious, and service is efficient. The layout is tasteful and sets a nice atmosphere. All friends and family I have entertained here have left satisfied with their meal. Food is reasonably priced, drinks however are slighlty pricey, but that's not a deterrent. Depending what time you visit, parking can be a little tricky, there are parking bays along Aldermans Hill, however they do get snapped up rather quickly.
