Visited recently for some food, for a family meal with my partner and the kids, and our friends. We had food and it wasn't great, it arrived cold when we raised this as an issue the guy that was serving us (I can't remember his name, but he had a waistcoat on) seemed very flustered when we complained. The restaurant area was cold and had an odd smell about it. Certainly didn't look like the pictures we had seen on social media which made us book in the first place. Wouldn't recommend.

The place is clean and tidy with a very nice ambience. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Liam, the operations manager attended to our needs extremely well. We had the curry menu and it was 10/10. I don’t eat lamb but for the first time I did as it was so good. Happy to recommend this place!

I was very impressed with Neil and Hamish service. They were very nice people. They looked after hower needs. Very dog friendly. The meal was out of this world. I recommend this dwelling for anyone who loves Indian food. I give it a 10 for service and food. Julie

Popped in for a bite to eat. Great food and probably one of the best Jalfrezis I’ve had. Caitlin provided an excellent excellent service and was very attentive in terms of ensuring we were happy with the food and we had drinks to keep us going. Highly recommend.

Firstly staff very nice. Had breakfast and expected better quality ingredients.Very poor quality cheap sausages, toast should be served on a separate plate as it was quite soggy due to tinned tomatoes, fresh would be much better.

Shakil is back. The curry master - it was a sad day some 4 years ago when he closed the doors on Khans Linthorpe Village. Shakil is an exceptional chef. As soon as I knew he was at Leven Spice I was there. Ignore all former reviews. Large portions, beautiful lamb chops, excellent dishes such as chicken tikka jalfrezzi. The restaurant needs a bit of TLC, the front of house staff not yet matching the excellence of the kitchen- but this will come. Don’t hesitate to visit and to say what you want. Shakil will deliver.

A really good addition to the dining scene. A comprehensive menu and willing to adjust spice levels to your liking. The food itself was cooked to order, served piping hot and was delicious. A reasonable selection of draught beers and lagers available to help cleanse the palate 🤣. Enjoyed it so much we returned with friends two weeks later 👍

My wife and I went for an afternoon to Stokesley and decided to book in for a meal in the Leven Spice. Lovely decor and well spaced out seating. The waiter was prompt and friendly. On returning with drinks he took our order. 2 poppadoms with the dips to start. I opted for Chicken chilli garlic, mushroom pilau and shared keema naan. My wife ordered Lamb Rogan Josh with plain pilau rice. We waited approximately 10 - 15 minutes which was fine by us, as the place was starting to fill up and the waiter was on his own. The food arrived which was of plenty. Mine was really spicy and very tasty which I really enjoyed. My wife enjoyed her meal also which was less spicy. Overall it was a great experience with delicious food at a very reasonable price. We will definitely revisit. The only downside was the place is also a hotel and there were people walking through the restaurant with bags and dogs to go to the rooms. But we can live with that.

Stokesley was crying out for an Indian, ever since Eastern Spice shut its doors, so I am over the moon that we finally have a decent takeaway/restaurant back in Stokesley! We had onion bahji’s, lamb balti, chicken tikka masala, plus a keema and garlic naan, all to takeaway. My lamb balti was really tasty, and can recommend. The wife said her chicken tikka masala was ok, but not amazing - hence 4, not 5 star review. But overall it was a descent Indian, with good food, particularly the bahji’s ! I did have a problem with using the App to place my order, and ended phoning up to complete my order and I overheard the lady at the bar collecting her takeaway, mentioning that she had a similar issue. I hope the locals can all support Leven Spice and use it, as it would be a real shame to lose an Indian takeaway in the town….. again !

Delighted that Leven Spice has arrived in Stokesley. The dishes were all fragranced and very tasty and cooked fresh. We will definitely be coming again and also use their take-away services

We had a really really bad experience to say the very least. Ordered the most expensive items on the menu. We received incorrect food, food that was not cooked correctly and cold food. Yes we were asked if it was OK and there was some backwards and forwards with dishes when we said no. Some things were sorted out some not. The place was quiet so we should have received excellent food and excellent service. We got neither. Overpriced with bad food and bad service. Who could wish for less? Terrible.

The Leven used to be a great place to eat BUT new owners who don’t care plus managers who don’t care plus staff that don’t care plus a chef that doesn’t care equals???? Disaster that’s what!!!! The website says it’s under new management - but it’s not. The owners are the same as they were when it fell off a cliff year before last. Most of the food photos are from years ago before the ‘new’ owners. We know because we ate there a lot then. Now the food is not great, the menu always short we are told, certainly it was very short when we went. I hate to leave a bad review, particularly after COVID when hospitality is struggling, BUT, the food and service is such a disappointment now I really have no choice. When this place is under new ownership, REAL new ownership I will give it another go. Right now my money is better spent elsewhere.

I remember when the food here was top notch! Now the food has bombed! They have so many things that are off the menu there is really no point in having a menu. Now it seems EVERYTHING is off some days as they claim to have no chef! BUT they dont tell you what days - its like a lucky dip! Unlucky dip to be exact!!! So you book a table, arrive togged up only to find NO FOOD!! They could let you know in advance - but NO!! Perhaps its for the best as the food has become overpriced pub food at best or perhaps mediocrity is their new theme??? Whatever is going on here dont waste your money just go somewhere else. I could go into detail about the missing food, cold food, incorrect food, slow service, poorly cooked food BUT whats the point? I just dont have the energy :(

Having visited The Leven in August 2020 where we had a lovely meal and great service we decided to go again. We made this decision not realising there had been a number of management changes in that time. I had booked & when I made the booking I was advised that the restaurant area had been given over to a function but they were still serving the menu in the bar area, we had checked the menu on the website & it looked much the same as it had on our previous visit so thought all would be good. We arrived for our 7:30pm table to be told that we would not be able to order until 8pm as the food for the function was going out, there was apologies for this and we were told just to sit at any table in the bar area, I appreciate that it is under new management & probably a work in progress but the bar dining area resembles a corridor and had little atmosphere and is not nice at all. We were given menus which while there were a few dishes on there from the website menu the choice is limited. The food was ok & by way of apology we were given a free round of drinks & paid for only one starter which was appreciated. The service however was not the best, as there didn’t appear to be a lot of staff to cover the function & any other clientele ,again it is appreciated that times are very different and it has to be just about impossible to gauge the foot fall on any given night, this however function aside was the quietest restaurant in Stokesley on a Saturday night, so clearly has little local support. Will we return ? Probably not. Here’s hoping the new management get some support & a grip on the place which includes publishing the correct menu on their website

Firstly, it has to be noted that The Leven is a very much "work in progress" destination, as parts are being refurbished. We were staying at The Leven for two nights and decided to eat in on our first night, especially as it was the Euros 2020 match between England and Germany! There was a large screen in the dining room, but was very quiet, as most of the 'punters' were in the marquee outside bar! We just ordered simple bar food, fish and chips and chicken Parmo, which was enjoyable and just what we needed.

Went in already had booked a table took 30 mins to get sat down. No table service. Took 1.30hours for food once ordered. Food on floor table not cleaned. Once people had left they did not clear up ( there was not many people in there either). Had ran out of most food on the menu. We told them we had a broccoli allergy so when they did not have most of the veg we requested. They piled the plate with broccoli. As soon as we walked in it smelled of fish. Once the food had come we had hard meat undercooked chips and the nana said “it was the worst meal of her life” (she is eighty and bearing in mines she was in an orphanage where they did not give good food back then).

We were keen to try a North East England speciality-a chicken parmo-breaded chicken with a topping of bechamel sauce and cheese, with chips and salad! Many options were on offer including the addition of pepperoni but we opted for plain chicken parmos. The portions were very generous and really delicious. The side salad was very fresh.

Living locally we use Thomas The Baker fairly often and find their rolls tasty and good value for money- their Wensleydale Cheese and chutney roll is my favourite. Staff are friendly. Would recommend.

We were recommended to stop off here by our hosts at our Airbnb when we left. As it was Sunday breakfast time we thought this might be nice. We definitely wasn’t disappointed! A lovely cafe set in pretty surroundings and friendly staff with gorgeous food. I had a “starter” breakfast (bacon, sausage, egg and tomato on sour dough toast with a pot of tea and my husband had a sausage sandwich with a fried egg and an americano coffee with hot milk. Both came freshly cooked and tasted delicious. We thought the prices were very reasonable and very friendly service. Such a gem of a cafe! Glad we came. My husband visited the toilets too and said they were extremely clean. I’d recommend this cafe highly if you’re in the area … we were staying in Carlton so very close by. Fab cafe!
