Food was not bad, service on the other hand a little poor. Staff were a bit clueless, no customer service skills. Alight sitting outside, wouldn’t sit inside.

I have been visiting the park for more than 60 years. The cafe in the former bowling pavilion is a gift to the community. It's clean and welcoming - and a great thing is the variety of people who pass through. Freshly cooked meals are complemented by a variety of cakes most of which are baked on the premises. So whether you're after breakfast, lunch, a cake or just a cup of tea, this is the place to go. It's at the heart of the park and a two minute walk from Devonport Station and several bus routes. Street parking is plentiful and free.

Visited the park today and thought we would stop off for breakfast. What a disappointment it was. Although the food came out hot, everything was cheap. Cheap beans disgustingly cheap sausages and the mushrooms had no taste, left most of mine, not nice at all. Sorry would not recommend this place. It’s ok for coffee and cake but breakfast is a no no from me

We seem to have a hit or miss visit every week here. This week Saturday was quiet- yes I thought…not much of a wait for food! But the quality….. asked for a bacon Brie and tomato wrap with crispy bacon…. The bacon came very under cooked let allowed crispy! Inedible. But it had tomato- didn’t the week before! Chicken mozzarella and pesto panini was simply pesto and bread, half the amount of chicken or mozzarella as usual and flooded with pesto - tasted awful, and to top it off (we always have a take away ) it always get a salad with it- both no salad! Had to ask for napkins and forks. Worse experience we’ve had- shame as we did this every week, but now thinking of missing out our Saturday treat!

There were three of us. I ordered toasted cheese and tomato .. under toasted, white bread with brown stripe, luke warm, not ‘cooked’ served in polystyrene containers and plastic forks.. ?! coffee at £2.50 overpriced for quality .. I politely mentioned to a member of staff my disappointment with my order, she was indifferent and did not pursue it.. overwhelming Queues inside for food and one for ice cream, running beside each other, overflowing bin, general mayhem.. staff pushing through with orders between the queues .. there were a lot of staff but I have to say I had the same experience long before Covid.. once bitten, twice shy ..

Visited here yesterday afternoon with my partner to grab a quick drink, we hesitated at first due to the hoards of customers congregated outside with their drinks and chatting, anyway we went to the front and placed our order, my partner who has a severe dairy allergy asked for a soy milk hot chocolate and the young girl serving us sighed and shook her head as she turned around to process the order as if we'd massively inconvenienced her. Once we'd recieved our order we had a stroll around the park, my partner had a mouthful of her drink and knew straight away that it wasn't right so threw it in the nearest bin but unfortunately by the time we got home she was very poorly. This isn't the first time we'd had a bad experience from rude staff in this place but gave them the benefit of the doubt, normally we avoid due to the number of people packed outside with uncontrollable dogs and even someone who takes his cat there and sits it on a table where people eat. Won't be returning.

We have used this cafe and park for a number of years with family and friends, the kids love playing in the 2 enclosed play parks and then having a drink and bite to eat. Reading the reviews I would say that the service depends on who is serving on that day, we were there last Friday (6th Nov) and had fab bacon butties and hot drinks and were able to sit outside plus the toilets were open, this Friday (13th) the service was not so good, drinks and bacon butties were just passable, sugar was put in one drink when we expressly said no sugar, also one cake on display seemed to have been there all week! Normally we are usually pleased with the service but yesterday was not good and the toilets were shut (these belong to the cafe) we were told that they had been told to shut them but we are not sure why the disabled toilet could not have been left open, as there where a great many people out and about in the park. Having said that, this is a good stop off place that always seems to be open, I would suggest that some, not all, of the staff need to go on a refresher Customer Service Training Course OR someone needs to take charge! as they never seem to know what they are doing.

We always come here for coffee and cake as it is usually so good! However after coming today we are very disappointed. I am a chef myself so do not expect to see those lovely cakes being left uncovered, without plates beneath, sat on top of the freezer in the back section behind the bar. This is unhygienic and not protected from cross-contamination. Secondly, I am somewhat of a coffee connoisseur, so when I order a latte I expect to see it as a latte... especially with the amount of coffees being made here due to how busy it is... there was no froth and it was way too hot. We may be back in the future but will not be as frequent until the standard is back to whatbut was...

Devonport in general seems to be given a wide berth by visitors to Plymouth from abroad as well as from within the UK. However for the more discerning traveller, who has perhaps an interest in history, there are a number of attractions in Devonport, (formerly 'Plymouth Dock', a markedly more important town than neighbouring Plymouth, which most definitely makes the short bus ride from Plymouth City Centre worthwhile. In passing one should mention the Scott Memorial, Devonport Guildhall and Column (completed 1824 - the bakery-cum-deli in the basement of the former is a non-intentionally well-kept secret, also well worth a visit to sample chain-superior coffee and a range of artisan-baked bread and cakes) and St. Aubyn’s Church (built 1768 and one of the few noteworthy buildings to have survived the Plymouth Blitz), which nowadays houses Devonport Library.

Been there twice, bought a car in a garage on Fore Street, and had my two dogs with me. I took a walk up to the park. This is a real oasis in the city, and plenty of people enjoy it with their dogs. I found the café, bought a veggie burger and latte, sat outside with my dogs and enjoyed the views. Went back today to Plymouth/Devonport to pick up my car, and took my parents upto the café, will deffo recommend and go back if in the area. As a note, despite what others have said, there were no free range dogs running around, only in the back room and outside are dogs allowed, and they have to be on a lead in the back room.

Inside has plenty of seating and the food is really good too. The prices however, they could be slightly cheaper but they serve everything from chips to full blown roasts. It opens up into the bowling green too so is convenient for refreshments. Public toilets built into the outside of the building and they are cubicle toilets for disabled, baby change and unisex. Went here today for the first time, there was 5 adults and 2 toddlers in our family group, we normally meet up most weekends and take the children to play in parks around the plymouth area, so when recommended we thought we would give it a go. We took the children around the parks first as the sun was shining and it was lovely, however the sun soon went in and it got a bit chilly, we thought we would go to the cafe for a cuppa, snack and a sit down, when we arrived the cafe was empty as we went in, the children were tired so sat in their prams and were soon asleep, us adults enjoyed some coffee's, a smoothie and chips, I must say we arrived at the correct time as after we sat down loads of people seem to come in and it became extremely busy. So we were glad we went in when we did. The staff were lovely and friendly, and also helpful as my mother in law ordered a smoothie but she didnt like it, we all had a sip of it but ut wasnt very nice, a bit to strong. A lovely young girl came and cleared our table I said she could take the smoothie away as none of us liked it. When my mother in law went up to get a milk shake they let her have it free of charge because she didn't like the smoothie. Lovely lovely girls. Well done everyone who works their. Will be back again. xxx

Went there late Saturday afternoon between two shows we were taking part in. Got there a little late. Yes most probably a shock to the staff who were cleaning up and winding down, but went out of there way to make us welcome and give us something to eat.i have read an article saying staff were unfriendly. Well I dispute that. Thankyou folks. Enjoyed the food and the cup do tea went down a treat. To some cake back to the theatre for later. Not lunch or dinner tea time around 5 - 5:30pm.

Small cafe in middle of park. Great 'homemade' cakes here. I have the Victoria sponge. Carrot cake is also meant to be very good.

With the grandchildren who had enjoyed hours in the park wanting something to eat. They loved the cheese and ham panini and then an ice cream. Staff very busy as it was packed on such a lovely day, but they were so helpful.

There is a wide choice of food and drinks available here inside the park. It was great to see so many families making use of the beautiful grounds of Devonport Park.

I go to the park quite often with either friends or family and very often we will go here for lunch. The fayre is typical English caff with such things as Full English, Paninis and Jacket spuds. Very little vegetarian choice. Prices are good.My friend says they do the best hot chocolate in Plymouth. I always have an americano and have always enjoyed it.As so many reviewers have commented, service is unfriendly. The building is very nice and modern. It can take a very long time for them to clean tables during busy periods.

Coffee and cake this afternoon. Coffee was rough and not really very pleasant. Cake was very heavy, but tasted ok. Clean and tidy, but staff not overly friendly.

Not a good experience at all today. Had to chase up a bowl of cheesey chips 3 times. Waited over 40 minutes freezing my bits off outside as I had the dog with me. Appreciate they were busy with roast dinners....perhaps they shouldn't take other food orders if it means such a ridiculous wait for customers! No apology either.....don't think ill be rushing back anytime soon.

I share the experiences of so many previous reviewers. The park has always been good but has been much improved over recent years. The cafe and adjoining sports facility seems to have been thoughtfully constructed of good materials in just the right spot on the brow of the hill from all angles. The big problem is the service, presentation and attitude of the staff. No one would want this place to be posh or expensive or the prices any higher than now. It 'just' requires careful review and management. So very much more could be made of the space and resources. Despite it's failings it does a steady trade which would instantly quadruple if they just got it together. The staff have no social, service or sales skills. They are uninterested, sullen, indifferent. I have watched them carrying out tasks without washing their hands, standing outside smoking, slamming down plates with toast or cake sliding off, leaving tables uncleared well after a customer has left and the table been reoccupied. Simple exchanges at the counter are clipped, unhelpful and lack any easy going let alone any friendly content. It's a huge downer. It reminded me of a few weeks I spent at a run down primary school where the contract caterers were finishing their task and getting home rather than engaging with staff or children. This cafe could be so good. Get on with it.

Just popped in for a pot of tea and a toasted tea cake.Burnt tea cake, toast crumbs and fluff in our dish of butter (it was served like it), soap suds on the tea spoon, dirty and chipped crockery. There were 4 members of staff doing not very much.Whoever owns this is losing a fortune, it has a wonderful building and location. The menu looks good but won't be returning if they couldn't even get our tea and toasted teacake right.

I have been here on a number of occasions and return purely for the location. The service is so slow and we never get our food out at the same time. Breakfast takes half an hour when you are the first people in the cafe. Most of the staff are miserable and don't seem to care about the cafe. Such a shame because it is a great location.

This is our local park cafe. We take our dog in sometimes after going for a walk around the park. The cafe is very dog friendly, you now take your dog in round the back which means dogs don;t go through the food prep areas which they did before. The food has always been OK, it is neither cheap or expensive, you are paying for being a captive audience in the park as well so it has no competition. The field gunner is their biggest meal and is very hearty and reasonable priced, my wife always gets the fish and chips. The fish and chips are just frozen fish and chilled chips cooked quickly. All of the food seems to be form the standard pub meal merchandisers with very little being made fresh on site. It's ok though, somewhere to go when it's raining. I have had a few meals that haven't been the best, burgers and hot sandwiches have never been good but all edible. Coffe and tea are usually very good. The cafe is licensed. There is wheel chair access. Sometimes the larger back room is open sometimes it's in use by the bowls club.

Took a walk in Devonport Park with our junior puppy. Lovely, well kept park, we enjoyed our walk although as our pup needs a lot of exercise we found the path's restricting for her as she's used to vast open spaces to run in. Very nice for a more sedate stroll and lovely views at over the Tamar and Torpoint ferry. We decided to have some breakfast in the café which is dog friendly both outside and also in the function room which is accessed around the back but still part of the main café. We enjoyed a very nice good cooked breakfast and friendly, welcoming service. Definitely will return but more for the café than the park, but that's only suitability for our pup. If you are looking to take a pleasant stroll or have kids and want to explore the park the activity area for them it looks great. Very much a community resource a credit to Devonport.

There is no reason why I should know who is responsible for the selection, training or supervision of the staff here but, they are a hapless crew, who have no idea how service should take place even in the most basic establishment, nor is it apparent how delightful or how much a gold mine this cafe could be if there were to be some fundamental, functional changes.

Visited the other day was a nice day and was hungry so thought i would take my children here. Food arrived very quick. Bad point is that there looks like a new girl has started with red hair, she doesn't help the lovely staff out, stood around drinking her drink and not very helpful when i asked where things were. would go back but this annoyed me as other staff were struggling and she didn't help out. (i think she's new i am not 100% sure)

Last year we discovered the unattended converted horse box near Devonport Park but in January we found the established shop/cafe in Albert Road. Very friendly and good selection of food all home baked. We think round the back of this cafe.
