Delrio's Restaurant in York

Wow - what an amazing restaurant!!! Rachele and her team are fantastic, so helpful, friendly and thoughtful. We were visiting York for the day, and feel so fortunate to have eaten at Delrio's for a birthday meal. From the point of booking (which is a must) right through to leaving, everything was fabulous. The food was really delicious, one of the tastiest meals out we've had in a long time, and the desserts are amazing, especially the meringue. Thank you to everyone, and if we're back in York, we will be sure to be back. Beyond five stars!!!

Had a really lovely meal in a beautiful and quirky cellar - the pear and cheese pasta in particular is delicious. This is a classy establishment that takes its cooking seriously but they were also so friendly and welcoming, even with our fairly noisy two year old. Would highly, highly recommend.

Been to York twice for work, both times I've had the pleasure of this restaurant. Cannot fault it, it's unique in appearance, the service is exceptional and the food is fantastic. The fact it was packed at 5pm on a Tuesday says it all.

Weekend away from north Wales for our anniversary. The service and food was absolutely amazing. Wish they had a place closer to home. We found out about them from tick tock and it exceeded expectations. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful and very convenient location. It's an absolute must visit. 10/10 we will definitely be returning

What a wonderful find Delrios is! The atmosphere here is cosy and relaxed, and the food is lovely. We had bruschetta and sautéed mushrooms for starters, both very good. For the main I had the tagliatelle with wild mushrooms, truffle & cream. Gorgeous! My other half had the vegetariana pizza, which again was delicious. All this washed down with a bottle of red wine made for a perfect meal. Would definitely recommend & will be booking again when we're next in York.

Visited Delrio’s with my husband and parents, lovely atmosphere, the service was brilliant and food great portions and very tasty. Felt very authentic and was good value for money compared to lots of other places in York.

Fantastic!! We’ve been coming to York for past 6 years and every time we come always book in Delrios because it’s always been a great evening. The cellar setting has a great atmosphere and the food is amazing; definitely bring an appetite when you come here.

What a lovely surprise ! Firstly, that it is quite so large with rooms to the left and right as you go down the stairs. With a low'ish ceiling, it looks as though it can get noisy but at least the tables are not so close together. Secondly, it does feel like an authentic piece of Italy. Thirdly, the food was well-presented and well-cooked. Waiting staff were considerate, not pushy and the young guy serving us even wished us a lovely Easter as left. How nice !!

I am an American, but my wife's family is from York, UK. I am from outside New York city and worked in NYC for a better part of my 20's & 30's. I now live outside New Haven, CT on the shore (both heavily top-notch Italian food areas) I have been to many Italian restaurants and being part Italian American grew up with the food. This place reminded me of a family restaurant in the Bronx or New Haven except for the accents. I always joke to people in the UK with my NY accent. "I speak the Kings English; Kings Point the Bronx (where the US Merchant Marine Acadamy & the Throgs Neck Bridge is located. Also, in the Revolution the PA Rifle Company picked off the Brits as they tried to make a beach head landing to outflank Washington heading up to White Plains after the Battle of Brooklyn disaster where they had to land at Pell's Point and Glover and his Marblehead Men of 750 stopped 4,000 at Battle of Pelham)."

Wow. We were treated so well here! I called at 6:57 p.m. and asked if they had room for a family of five. She said, "well, I have one table for four but we could squeeze a fifth on there if you think it would be fine. How soon can you be here? I only ask because the table is reserved for someone else at 8:30." We raced out of our hotel which was literally a 3 minute walk to the restaurant. They were waiting for us as we entered. Pretty much everyone who worked there was speaking Italian. Service was swift and the food was ridiculously delicious! Our family lived in Italy for a few months a few years ago and experienced some amazing food there, of course. This was equal to anything we had in Italy! Literally every single thing we ordered was fantastic. My wife ordered the Fiocchi formaggio e pere and it was particularly tasty! We all had a bite! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Everything about Delrio's was great. The staff were extremely friendly from the start, including recommending a nice alternative to the wine that we ordered. The main courses were lovely, only order the calzone if you are feeling really hungry. The desserts were also larger than most other restaurants. And our table was in great position so that we were away from other diners but not isolated. We had been trying to visit for at least five years and we're glad that we finally got in.

We had a brilliant New Years evening with our wonderful friends. The food was excellent, traditional Italian restaurant ,wonderful ambience and lovely friendly helpful staff. We have already booked to come back this year.

The ambience was really quaint and authentic. The food was sublime and the staff couldn't be more helpful. Would recommend this Italian 100% and will certainly visit again.

A wonderful hidden gem near the city walls. Was recommended to me and didn’t disappoint. Pre booking is essential as walk ins were unfortunately being turned away. Traditional Italian, not a huge meal but what we had was very tasty!

We were recommended this restaurant and you must book ahead as it is always busy on an evening. The staff and host Rachaela were excellent, very helpful and very pleasant to chat with. We ordered two starters which were delicious which we both shared. My wife ordered a Calzone pizza which was enormous and delicious I am reliably informed. I ordered the seafood linguine which was nice however the seafood was quite small (prawns, mussels and clams) and there were not very many of them. The seafood in the linguine did not have much of a seafood taste which leads me to think the seafood had been frozen but I could be wrong. I did not mention this to the team as they were so nice and did not want to bring any negativity to such a lovely evening. Thank you all and will be definitely be back.

There are only good things to say about this restaurant: the food is exceptionally good, everyone is very friendly and helpful, the ambience is great. As you would expect with a resteraunt this good it's advisable to book ahead because it's very busy.

Best pizza we have ever had, we also had the soup of the day for starters which was delicious! Service was very good from every member of staff, friendly and attentive. Will be returning :)

Lovely amazing. Delicious food and lovely staff. The best Italian food I have eaten for a long time. Simple food, perfectly executed. Really nice friendly atmosphere too and the staff are wonderful. It was my husband's birthday and they brought him a desert on the house and sang happy birthday too him too! Just a perfect place. I only wish I lived in York so we could go there regularly! Visited here on a Thursday night. It gets really busy so I would definitely book beforehand, you probably won't get a table if you just turn up. It's quite a quirky, cosy place with a great menu. We ordered the Burrata caprese with cherry tomatoes, stuffed peppers and a pesto dressing, and Antipasto del contadino - selection of Italian cured meats for starters. Then we had the Del fattore - chicken, peppers and mushrooms pizza and Tagliatelle al tartufo - tagliatelle with wild mushrooms, truffle and cream for mains. For desserts we had the meringue with black forest berries and white chocolate cheesecake. The food and drinks all arrived quickly and all was delicious. The portion sizes are good, the dessert portions are very generous! The staff are very attentive too. I would definitely recommend Delrios and look forward to eating here again on our next visit to York. Thank you team Delrios.

What a wonderfully soul warming experience. From the minute we entered the restaurant, we knew that it was going to be a wonderful evening. The initial greeting at front of house was with a family-like warmth, and this transferred seamlessly to the waiting staff. The menu is generous and wonderfully enhanced by a number of specials. The food was delicious and the level of service was perfection; attentive but by no means overwhelming. This is the sort of authentic feeling restaurant that I'd travel a long way for and I'll certainly visit again when next in the broad vicinity. You can't cultivate this natural ambience... very close to perfection. For balance, if I'm being uber-constructive, I felt that the panna-cotta was marginally over-set and £5 for a 1/2 pint of draft lager a tad expensive, but neither would stop me running back for a repeat.

We stumbled across this place on a mid week work trip. I’m so glad we did. Incredibly warm welcome, great service and the food was fantastic.. Everything about our visit was 5/5 and we can’t wait to come back again! Just a shame we don’t have a place like this nearer home. Honestly, you won’t be disappointed. grazie mille X

Incredible food, very attentive, friendly staff with fast service

Some of the nicest food I've had, ever. Such friendly and kind staff too, I think we met four of the team members who were all great! The atmosphere is so beautiful too. We had the lasagne and the king prawn and scallop with linguine, and both were amazing.

Pretty good. Tasty but ALOT of butter used for sauces. Service was superb, cannot fault. Cozy dining experience in the basement. Overall would recommend, the general consensus is that it's great!

This is an amazing authentic Italian restaurant, if you are in York you must dine here. I had swordfish off the special menu and it was so good. In a era of overpriced, overhyped and oversold venues, Delrio's was everything but. We often struggle to find places to eat that "wow" us like abroad, however this was perfect. The place itself is exactly as pictured and the service lived up to and exceeded...

We were recommended this hidden gem by Jordi at The Grand Hotel. It is without question the BEST Italian meal we have had in the UK. The staff were simply wonderful and the selection and quality of food was beyond all expectations. It will be the first place we eat next time we visit York!

Used to be our favorite spot in York. Would eat here every time we visit York. But the new booking system is horrible. Requires your credit card details to reserve a table. I get that you want to protect against no shows, but I'm simply not comfortable with this. Says to call and book in person. We tried this and were simply told it had to be done online. So unfortunately....we won't be eating here on our visits to York anymore. Food is good. But the booking system put us off here.

Friendly attentive staff without being pushy/rushing. Very accommodating when we said we wanted to share our pizza snd pasta. Food is fantastic, way better than any high street italian chain. The Best Italian and authentic Italian food we've had outside of Italy in a very long time! We shared a brushetta, for main the fillet medallion and ravioli (cheese and pear) with tiramisu and cheesecake special dessert. Service was attentive, fast and caring. Food was just fantastic. Delrios is very special. and we love it. The restaurant is in an atmospheric cellar, which is both intimate and cosy, with some quiet nooks and corners, and convivial too. There is always a happy buzz, and we notice that it fills up very quickly...

Lovely little quirky Italian, the food was gorgeous, the staff are actually Italian (or they are good at the accent 😂) and the ambience is cool. I think the only let down are the toilets, which are cramped for me.

Comi uma massa ao molho com camarão. A massa estava saborosa, o molho também. Mas o camarão estava meio mole demais. Porém os pratos de meus amigos estavam muito bons. O vinho era ótimo e o atendimento muito bom.

Quaint little restaurant with exceptional food. Tables MUST be booked in advance as they don't accept walk-ins and we saw many disappointed groups turned away.
