Deli Mair in Highland

Absolutely diabolical. Take my advice and steer clear of this place. The staff can’t speak or understand English. The food was Luke warm, tasted horrible and portions were small, the salad consisted of lettuce, onion & olives only. The prices are exorbitant for what you get. I will be amazed if this place lasts. The cleanliness left a lot to be desired. Never again.

We made a quick stop in Aviemore to grab something to eat. There was a sign outside saying “best coffee in town”. My husband ordered 2 coffees & a muffin of unknown type as the waitress didn’t know for sure what it was. I was hungry and wanted a sandwich. There was a very large board displaying multiple sandwich choices. I ordered a tuna sandwich but they didn’t have tuna. I ordered a ham & cheese but they didn’t do ham. Finally, I settled for a cheese sandwich. We finished our coffees, which were poor at best & the blueberry muffin which was stale. I got my sandwich to go. My husband paid in cash but, unfortunately the waitress didn’t know how to make change. When I got to the car I discovered my “sandwich” was 2 slices of brown bread & grated cheese. There was no mayo dressing or any other ingredient included. The cheese just fell out making it impossible to eat as a sandwich. Clearly the people running this place have no clue what they are doing.

There a service bad a black women with a baby it's real bad thinks they shouldn't take baby at restaurant bar or kitchen I never go at this restaurant again in my life I have to give one Star other ways I didn't give any Star...

Ordered the soup and sandwich deal for £10 and was served tinned chicken soup and sandwich had very little filling would never be back again and will be surprised if it's still running next time I visit

It is rare I have nothing positive to say about a restaurant but this is an exception. We passed by here earlier and noticed their all day half breakfast and decided later that would be a good option before continuing our trip. The place is sparsely equipped and unwelcoming and there seemed to be a lot of misunderstanding about what they offer. The five item breakfast including tea or coffee is really only four items because the tea counts as one so if you want five items the tea and coffee are extra meaning your £10.98 breakfast is really £17.35. The food itself was very poorly cooked in fact each item was over cooked apart from the toast. With so many other options in the area this establishment will need quite some improvement to survive. I guess you learn by your mistakes and a closer look reveals empty dusty shelves and poor maintenance .

We wanted a coffee and a snack as we were travelling through and this looks ok from the outside. Two coffees and a sausage roll. I asked if the sausage roll would be warmed up (after I paid for it) and was told abruptly 'no'. So we had luke warm poor coffee with cold sausage dog. We don't often visit, but we certainly won't do so again. On the bright side a good choice of deli and food items. But overall a little brightness doesn't make up for poor coffee and abrupt staff.

The food in this shop is tasty and good quality, but every time I go in I sense a bad atmosphere. The staff look unhappy and nervous. The owner shoots into the shop from the kitchen every time someone enters the shop and then looks suspiciously and somewhat threatening at you. The way the owner and some of the staff talk to you is unfriendly, as if they want you out as quickly as possible. A few times I've bought less than I would have if they hadn't rushed me in such an unfriendly way. I know several locals who for these reasons no longer visit the shop, and I won't be going there again either. Seems like they are losing local customers with their poor customer service. A shame, because their food is good.

Friendly staff and superb selection of fresh food and cheeses. Coffee was great too, wish i found this earlier in my trip

Travelling north stopped here for lovely soup and panini, mushroom and leek and potato, lovely and tasty homemade, great find!

Best coffee in town plus fabulous deli counter with delicious home bakes and sandwiches to sit in or takeaway. Not forgetting the delightful attentive staff 🙌🏻

Nice soup and the meat n cheese platter was excellent. Stopped for a spot of late lunch and wasn’t disappointed. Finished off with a lovely coffee.

Popped in for lunch. Both the salmon quiche and black pudding pie were tasty and staff were helpful. There are also lots of interesting foods about to look at as you eat.

My husband & I stopped here for lunch today. I had a cheese & spring onion sandwich with some lovely tasty crisps I have never had before & a cherry coconut slice for afters & my hubby had a black pudding pie & an empire biscuit for afters. The sandwich I had was so fresh & tasty & presented beautifully on a plate & my hubby loved his black pudding pie. Service was fantastic too. Lovely smiley staff & tables constantly being cleaned as soon as someone leaves. Totally recommend & wish we had a Deli Mair in Falkirk.

I visited today along with my husband we chose the ice frappe much needed as it very hot. The white chocolate and raspberry flavour was gorgeous. I would highly recommend a visit.

had a the worlds smallest panini that tasted of cardboard. Partner had a thimble full of (at best) average soup. I understand its tourist season, but pretty awful food at rip off prices! Service wasn't much to write home about either...miserable faced, no thank you or anything as we left.And nobody asked for my contact details, so if I've spread Covid, yer screwed!Been in a bad mood all day since going there.

Can’t fault the quality of the food, however the sharing platters are extremely overpriced for what you actually receive. Me and my partner both left still hungry. The customer service was nothing to write home about either considering the food is not exactly cheap. Seriously doubt We would ever return.

I came here with a friend and her mum, they ordered and paid before me and asked to sit it which was fine. When it was my turn to order the lady serving me said ‘oh I suppose you want to sit in too, if so you need to pay me £1’ as stated on a small plaque, the manner she spoke to me in was incredibly rude! I ordered a panini and had a coke in my hand which she then asked me to pass her to scan, she snatched the coke out of my hand in a very abrupt manner, when paying the lady was huffing and puffing like I was wasting her time and she was very unpolite. When our glasses arrived for our drinks she slammed all glasses down on the table and stormed off, our paninis were then brought out with no salad on the plate however other customers were given cutlery and salad with there’s. Worst customer service ever, would not return here again due to the unbelievably rude staff.

Had a late lunch at this deli and it was absolutely delicious you must try. Definitely the best place to eat in Aviemore

Popped in for a quick lunch. Lunch was tasty & served promptly by lovely staff. Only downside was toilet, which was quite cramped & would be unsuitable for a wheelchair user.

Spiced carrot soup was sublime, in cute wee plant pots with delicious bread and butter to accompany if required.

Brilliant place to stop in Aveimore coffee to die for, bacon rolls that melt in the mouth. Jacket potatoes that just overflow with fillings. Try for yourself you won't be disappointed

Dropped in for a snack. Ordered vegetable soup which had a fresh home made flavour. I had a cheese and onion toastie which arrived hot and with a generous filling. The wife had a crispy cake and a decaff coffee. We also took out fudge, chocolate orange, orkney cheese and gluten free brown pasta. We enjoyed our visit and will be back and would not hesitate to recommend deli mair to anyone.

Quite disappointing. The Bacon rolls were great. The paninis uninspired and the scone was stale. Couldn’t heat s sausage roll for me ! The new member of staff was very friendly and efficient. Was ok but have experienced better in other places in Aviemore.This is a good deli and coffee stop but maybe not for lunch.

Recently had lunch here with my wife and found it to be excellent. Food was very fresh, very well presented and the side salad was one of the freshest I’ve ever had. dressing on it was lovely too. Both of us also had soup which was definitely home made and really nice! Coffee served was also excellent, much better than a chain offering. Would definitely visit again anytime in Aviemore.

Called in for a quick pit stop while travelling down A9. The soup and brown bread were both excellent, followed by a great coffee. Staff were friendly and attentive Recommended.

We visited for lunch after a cold morning on the mountain visiting the reindeer. Everything we had hit the spot perfectly. The two paninis, lentil soup and marshmallow brownie were amazing, and finishes with a great coffee. Super glad we popped in and if we were staying in Aviemore longer we would definitely return.

Visited for breakfast during Thunder in the Glens weekend, lovely coffees, bacon roll and coissants, great service and good selection of deli foods, had a table outside in the sunshine, will definitely return.

We have visited Deli Mair a few times and found it to be fairly good but today it was very bad for a number of reasons. The soup of the day was advertised on the counter but sold out when I asked for it. I then asked for a pizza as advertised on a board outside but was told they were sold out the day before. I bought a panini and when it arrived there was virtually no filling in it and one half was broken in 3 places. To say it was dry is an understatement. A bought a can of juice and asked for a glass but it never arrived, the assistant even tried to take away my half full can. I order a coffee and it arrived without milk so I had to ask for it. The panini arrived and the waitress said that she would get cutlery but only gave a set to my wife. I was left to drink the juice from the can and eat the panini with my hands.

Really good coffee and great date slices. What more could anyone want. Really really good coffee . And brilliant date slices. Nothing else to say but needed more words

We were in aviemore we found this very nice place for Iunch the deli food looked good and tasted really good service was good and the atmosphere was nice well worth a visit

Called in for drinks and snacks, really good choices and all good quality. Nice shop also definitely worth a visit. Had a good laugh when drink ordered got a bit mixed up, hard to explain guess you had to be there!!

Delicious panini and soup, arrived quickly. Lots of choice and a nice deli shop attached. Highly recommend.

Deli Mair would grace any high street in the UK. It's certainly a little jewel for Aviemore.

Lunch. We had baked potatoes which were quite nice. No complaints about the services, and value quite good for Aviemore. Loses a star for 2 reasons: grubby toilets needing a refurb, and the daft "plates" the food is served on. Soup in a plant pot and main meal on wooden board. Hygiene concern if nothing else?

My, friends and I called in here whilst visiting the area. We all had Coffee and Cake. The coffee was good quality and the cakes were delicious. Excellent value, quick friendly service in a lovely setting. Great well stocked Deli and large choice of freshly made sandwiches. Highly Recommended.

Stopped over for lunch on the way home. Went here as a second choice coz our fav place was closed. It doesn't look inviting from the street but it was much better once inside. Food was tasty and healthy choices available, however the vegetarian options were very limited ie mainly egg or cheese. I asked for full salad and got lettuce and tomato with my egg mayo wrap. My friend's soup then arrived in a mini plant pot. Her baked potato came on a small wooden chopping board, (a fine breeding ground for bacteria), and before long her lunch was spilling onto the plastic table cloth. I would really appreciate proper crockery as it seemed a little pretentious to me, but each to their own. Tables were kinda bistro sized so the garden pots and chopping boards were a little over the top for such a confined dining space. All in all the food was good, limited fare for vegetarians and the faffy implements were just daft in my opinion. Hopefully next time we will get proper bowls and plates and we could become converts to the establishment

Opted to buy bread rolls and fillings for a picnic. Great choice. Suited the fussy and adventurous. Young chap at the counter was very patient and chatty. Highly recommend

I'm friend and I walked into the Deli at lunch time (waiting on our partners arriving). I asked a young member of staff it we can put 2 tables together that had 2 seats on each table (the tables where right next to each other) and was told very politely yes, however an old member of staff 5 minutes later said to us "you can't seat like that, and if your are seating like that You will need to move if the place gets busy" very disappointed. I was shocked to be spoken to like that and we walked out. Looks like a good menu... Terrible attitude from a member of staff.

We fouund this little gem of a coffee shop first thing this morning for breakfast as we are heading for a long trip home south. Firstly the staff/owner was lovely and welcoming and the food was fantastic, breakfast which was a mix of croissants, bagels, paninis and toasties which we're all on point...so good in fact we all picked up lunch for the car journey home, we'll be back for more in October! And as an amazig bonus they catered for allergens...I will enjoy my gluten free turkey sandwhich. Thank you!

Visit here every time we are in Aviemore The food is delicious and fresh always spoilt for choice of what to have to eat The shop is full of fresh local produce ,delicious cheeses ,meats ,olive oils etc Well worth a visit

This is a cosy but popular delicatessen offering a range of fresh sandwiches and other produce. You’ll pay a little more than elsewhere but it’s worth that little bit extra. Friendly staff and swift service.

We visited Deli Mair in the hope of picking up some local produce as a gift for some family. The team were very accommodating in making us up a hamper which was beautifully wrapped. Thanks again, well recommended.

This deli has so much choice and is particularly good for cheese lovers; all manne of Scottish and continental cheeses are on offer, with chutneys etc to accompany them , if required.

Popped in for an excellent toastie and tea. Great place, friendly staff, lovely food. Would highly recommend for a bite to eat!

On out Christmas holidays and came across this delightful deli. We decided to go to the fondue evening and we were not disappointed. Lovely setting and very intiment. Not over booked and wonderful service. You also get the choice to browse the shop merchandise and purchase if you want to buy no one pressures you to do this. Fully licensed so you can have a few glasses of vino while eating your fondue.

Out having a coffee when we overheard someone talking about deli mair and thought we would try it out as we were in aviemore for the day. Did not disappoint staff were very nice and the food was presented on a lovely cheese board. So much to choose from and if there is nothing from what is already made they will make something. Coffee was also lovely. Warm little place where you can sit and watch aviemore pass by.

We enjoy having a baguette for lunch so make a practice of searching for an outlet.

Soup and sandwiches were delicious. Fab selection of fillings. Couldn’t resist scone and cuppa. Will be back for lunch before the end of our trip.

Das Deli Mair ist vornehmlich ein Delikatessengeschäft, es gibt aber auch drinnen und draußen ein paar Tische und man kann eine Kleinigkeit essen und trinken. Besonders gemütlich ist es vielleicht nicht unbedingt, dafür waren die Menschen im Geschäft sehr nett, der Espresso ordentlich und das kleine Gebäckstück sehr lecker.

Popped in here for a quick bite. Lovely selection of deli foods. Opted for a jacket potato with cheese and coleslaw as it was a bit chilly outside. Coleslaw was delicious but the star of the show was the beautiful mango dressing on the side salad. So much so that I couldn't leave without getting a bottle to take home. Great service and friendly staff. Would recommend.

I had been on the road for two hours in the middle of a heat wave and was desperate for some refreshment. My usual cafe was closed for some reason, but I noticed there were tables here so I went in and was impressed by the choice of cakes, traybakes and scones. I had to stand for a little while before anyone took any notice of me, but I used the time to check out what I was going to have, and ordered coffee and a cake, as well as a bottle of water from the chilled cabinet. I was happy with everything and would go back. It was also fascinating to see the range of items available at the deli. Aviemore is lucky to have such choice.

Great place to get different stuff, not found in supermarkets, super choice. Fresh vegetables too. Helpful , cheerful staff. Also a few tables for light snack / lunch.

We have been to Aviemore numerous times but this was our first visit to the Deli Mair. Friendly lady behind the counter told us to find a table then she would take our order. She was serving and making the drinks. We ordered 2 Americanos, with hot milk on the side, a slice of White Chocolate and Coconut cake and a slice of Ferraro Rocha Chocolate cake. WOW the cakes were delicious, and the coffees were good too. Lovely selection of scones, tray bakes and cakes.

visited here the other morning for a bite to eat...service was strange....arrived and lady behind the counter didn't even look at us found this very strange. no eye contact...( blond haired lady needs some skills ) however the bacon roll was pretty good.

Visited twice in a week. Ordered stinking bishop cheese on a rustic role, simple choice but delicious. Partner ordered same thing. Ordered muffin (lemon poppyseed) one of the days and chocolate orange cake on the other. Outstanding cakes. Partner had a cranberrry and pasrachio slice on both visits, which was delicious. Coffee was good too, nice and smooth. Good product knowledge on the cheeses regards to vegetarian options. Staff overall friendly and very helpful. Good service and value for money. Recommend!

A great deli experience, with a fantastic display of foods, both ready to eat, and those you take away with you. I've never seen so many flavoured vinegar's before! You can buy and take away as much or as little as you want. Coffee and a morning bacon bap were excellent. Definitely a place to revisit.

Upmarket delicatessen - that also serves food. We went in a number of times during our visit to Aviemore for deli food but also had breakfast there one day. Everything fresh behind the counter looks tempting so hard to choose and also well stocked with deli essentials. They have a limited food and drinks menu to eat in or takeaway. Also has outside seating and toilets. Bacon rolls very tasty and good value at £1.95 - but it seems a bit mean to me to add 10p for a sauce sachet! (otherwise it might have been excellent).

We were exploring Aviemore and came across this place. We weren't planning to eat lunch in however we couldn't resist it. It was pretty busy I suspect with locals. Typical deli food + pizza. Great value for money, light lunch for 2 including drinks was less thn £10.

This is a great place for coffee, cake and fresh sandwiches. If you are in a hurry there are ready made sandwiches but if you want yours with/without salad etc they will happily make yours to order. The deli side is really good for staples but also for things that aren’t run of the mill. A good cheese selection and also wines and gins. Fresh bread, milk and vegetables also available. Really worth a visit.

Only a soya latte ordered to take away but it was barely tepid and mostly foam in cup. Was drunk in a few sips. Disappointing.

An artisan bakery and cafe where we stopped for lunch having walked through Aviemore seeking refreshments. A quiet spot which was welcoming, very efficient, cost effective and lovely food and drinks. Just lovely.

We called into the shop whilst out on our bikes. The sandwiches were delicious with a wide selection of breads and fabulous choice of fillings. Friendly helpful staff and a great outdoor seating area.

This was a stop off for something warm and nice. A small place deli with a small number of tables, clean and well laid out, a good selection of cheese and olives and cold meats. Staff friendly and pleasant, the soup was just the ticket was warm and welcoming on a cold and windy day, baked potatoes with a choice of fillings all reasonable cost, if in the area again will pop in. A lovely selection of other products at good prices.

This small deli is an Alladin's cave of produce - well worth a visit for coffee or just to browse. I really enjoyed the choice of bread too.

Enjoyed rolls and bacon last week £1.90 great price plus lovely coffee. Staff were really nice and shop was spotless would recommend and use next time in Aveimore

We had a sandwich here to takeaway while staying at a local hotel and the sandwiches were really lovely! Prices are really reasonable and staff were lovely. We will definitely be back next time we are up!

Lovely deli serving delicious fresh food at very reasonable prices, everything freshly made the toasted sandwiches on brown bread are very good as are the bacon rolls. The coffee is very good as are the tray bakes. Staff are friendly and helpful and bathroom facilities very clean. Good range of Deli products including a large range of cheeses. Their take away prices and sit in prices are the same - costs kept down by using paper dishes and cups although hot sandwiches are served on a wooden platter.

We had a light breakfast and coffee here two consecutive days. Both days the staff was excellent and friendly. Highly recommend a visit when in Aviemore.

Whilst I can't guarantee the sun we were lucky enough to sit outside in the sunshine, drink the best coffee I've had in Scotland and gaze at the hills. Scotland at its best. He had a delicious date slice too and looking at all that's on offer we could have stayed longer and eaten more, but this was a quick pit stop heading south from Inverness and worth pulling off the A9 for a five minute detour.

Stopped for a quick lunch of a perfectly cooked quality bacon sandwich with really good coffee very reasonably priced but I ended up spending over £80 on the interesting selection of products in the deli. So beware.

Sandwiches here were great, very fresh! Friendly staff. There are some seats outside if you are lucky with the weather. Will definitely return! 😃

Called in to pick up some suppliers before a long walk. The sandwiches and freshly filled rolls were delicious, the best we have had in a very long time! The choice of cakes was also very good. Would highly recommend.

What a wonderful deli / cafe. Had a rest stop whilst crewing for a friend rollerskating from John O'Groats to Lands End. The staff and service was excellent and they were very helpful. I had a toastie, latte and a piece of cake to takeaway - yum. Would definitely recommend a visit for breakfast/lunch or coffee and cake. Great gin selection to purchase as well. Thank you

Was in Aviemore for 2 weeks holiday with the family and had lunch ( both sit in and takeaway ) a number of times. Offering was really good and everything is fresh made. food is great and could not recommend this place enough. You must give it a good if you are every in Aviemore

A good quality Deli that would not look out of place in a major city. As well as fresh bread and making sandwiches to order they also have a decent selection of ingredients and a good alcohol range.

A great find as we were passing through Aviemore recently. A deli serving food snacks and light lunches with food prepared on the premises. A great range of fresh bread from local bakeries and excellent range of sandwiches in fact the best crab and prawn sandwich I have had. Good range of homer baking and a delicious scone.Good coffee and piping hot. Complimented with the good deli range of foodstuffs on offer to tempt after your food.

Simply a little bit of mainland European quality in Aviemore. A place for me. Get in there and enjoy.

Came here as the nearby shop had shut at 3 so glad we did. The young guy serving was great very helpful. Lovely choice of artisan foods to purchase to takeaway. We had mocha's which were very nice. Panini's which were also great value and tasted great just what we needed. Thanks.
