Visiting the Natural History Museum, stopped off for a coffee at the Deli Cafe, located at the back near the Darwin Egg building. Very nice Café Latte - though as you'd expect London Prices! Friendly helpful staff. Only issue was that the tables were very dirty, covered in crumbs and the relics of other peoples food and hadn't been cleaned in a while.

We stopped here for some lunch around noon on 31/10/20. I'm writing this review as I wanted to give a specific mention to the gent with the beard who works in the cafe. The cafe was really busy with only 2 staff members on serving and 1 on clearing. He was working his absolute socks off and was extremely efficient, but still took the time to talk with all customers and was very friendly. He also looked to be training a new member of staff, talk about multi-tasking! We both opted for a sandwich with 2 salad sides, which easily kept us going till tea time and were very tasty. Food was pretty fairly priced, with 2 lunches and 2 drinks coming to around £20.

There's so much to see in this museum that no one wants to waste time going out for food. The cafeteria was very busy when I was there. Despite this the staff worked efficiently, serving customers and clearing tables. It was clean and there was no stress of trying to find a seat once you have your food as can sometimes be the case. There was a good choice of food and drink to suit all tastes. I was happy with the quality of the food and the price was reasonable. I won't hesitate to visit again.

The Kitchen café deserves to be considered better than "average" but below "very good". A salmon fillet or a chicken breast or a (fancy) sandwich will set you back £7.95 which a lot of people seem to think is too much, but I disagree as all of the above items come with two salads from a wide range. Also, more to the point, the money made from catering helps fund the museum, which let us remember is entirely FREE.The food itself is good quality but nothing sensational, and the room and tables are quite bland. It's not the sort of place you'd want to hang around for long, but then of course you wouldn't; you're in the Natural History Museum!

This is in the perfect place within the museum as a mid way food stop and recharge was great to be able to take a moment and relax before we started on the other part of the museum. Fantastic restaurant and the food was delicious, what we loved - variety of salads, wraps, focaccias (not boring sandwiches) and plenty of hot dishes. Our daughter had a lasagne which was really yummy. Despite the fact that the restaurant was very busy (lunch time) everything was running smoothly. Sometimes you had to put your tray away yourself but this is not due to laziness of the staff (as one of the people mentioned before) but due to the fact that they were very busy and they deserve credit for it. Also fresh food was delivered regularly, they never run out of the food. It's not cheap, this place is pricey but I believe that the most of the money goes back to fund the Museum which I don't mind

OK so you're really here for the museum and not a gastronomic experience, which is lucky as you won't get one. On the face of it there is a wide-ish menu. Unfortunately you can't get a regular sandwich, instead you get over-fussy wraps and ciabatta loaves - far too expensive for a lunch time bite to eat. I swear they even had smashed avocado - this isn't Sydney Australia for goodness sake. Why not have simple sandwiches? There's a range of fairly expensive hot choices - £10 for serving of lasagne.. We made do with overpriced muffins and cake and coffee. The coffee isn't up to much either. The staff seem less than interested and we had to clear a table as there didn't seem to be anybody else doing it.Of course, this is a museum and it's free to get in, but they could actually make some more cash by being more efficient and having food that wasn't ridiculously priced. As a Londoner I sometimes despair over the standard of service we allow - but on the positive side this is much better than the world's worst museum food experience - that in the Vatican Museum, my review of which trip advisor still refuses to publish

This cafe is only for when you’re desperate for a caffeine or carb injection and you can actually get one of the MANY staff members to be bothered to serve you.Having missed a full breakfast (I’d recommend trying the Lido Cafe in nearby Hyde Park if you’re coming from that direction), while the rest of my party had coffee & cakes for elevenses, I opted for a Focaccia sandwich with side salads. Getting someone to serve was an uphill struggle, pulling a supervisor from a private conversation with a colleague to instruct a THIRD member of staff (maybe they were the only one trained to operate a pair of tongs?) to put a pre-prepared sandwich on a plate with a couple of portions of a pasta and a green salad. When I say ‘portion’ I may be overstating what was plonked on the plate at first. Another struggle to get something that would satisfy and sparrow. The quality was fine but we were all left with the impression was a place run to take the maximum amount of money off the visitor for the minimum amount of product or customer service. If the Museum want to argue that (the premium attractions aside) you’re getting a ‘free’ day out at the NHM (ignoring the income or visitor taxes we’ve all contributed) and that they’re justified in overcharging to generate extra income, then they should just consider whether visitors will return to the cafes or to the Museum at all. NHM Management: Try bothering to give good service and a good value for money and you’ll get good word-of-mouth and return visitors. TIP: Plan a picnic in a rucksack or even pick up some sandwiches on the way and use the large Picnic Area in the basement directly below this restaurant. With lots of tables (it appears to be laid out for school trips) plus a drink and snack vending machine, it’s right by the washrooms we found from the restaurant. You’ll probably have a more relaxed meal and not feel ripped off.

My two friends are I came to visit the Natural History Museum on a Saturday afternoon to grab a quick bite to eat before having a nose around the museum. Looking at the menu it looked fairly reasonable. Fries for £3.50, and a brownie for £4.50... It could be worse! When we got to the till we were greeted by an unenthusiastic trainee. As we proceeded with our orders, we decided we wanted to pay for our separate meals individually. The first of us ordered fries and apple juice (£6.50), second of us ordered fries, a brownie and Fanta Orange (£10.00), and myself, I ordered fries and a brownie (£8.00).After ordering, we were shown to our table by a waitress. Almost within two minutes, my friend's apple juice arrived and shortly a minute after her fries arrived. We waited five minutes, ten minutes, a further fifteen minutes in which our two orders of fries and brownies had still not arrive. During this time, we couldn't help but notice how dirty our cutlery was! I kid you not, food (it looked like dried tomato puree) was still on one of the forks! We had to ask a waiter to change the cutlery and even he seemed bemused by it! After waiting thirty minutes for our two orders, we knew this wasn't right. We called over a waitress who quickly glanced over our receipts, nodded and walked away! I was so shocked. She simply ignored our issue!! This was not okay! We approached another waitress, who thankfully, went to call the manager. It turns out that the trainee only put forward the first order, and the two other orders did not even make it into the kitchen!!The manager was apologetic and told us our food will arrive as soon as possible. She was right! However, after waiting thirty minutes and realising that your order was never initially put forward, I didn't exactly feel reassured. When the food did arrive, the fries were mediocre in a small bowl and one of the brownies were cold. For a wonderful place like the Natural History Museum, with visitors day in and day out from all across the world, you'd expect quality, but unfortunately from this experience the price simply did not reflect the food or the service. If you do have to eat here, my best advice is to hold on to your receipt and check your cutlery! Otherwise, if you have time, check out the other cafes in the museum and/or research in advance the range of cafes and restaurants close by South Kensington tube station for a better experience!

My friend and I were visiting the museum for the Wildlife Photography of the year Exhibition, which was amazing, but before hand we decided to get a bite to eat. We opted for the restaurant inside the museum. This was not a good move. As soon as we ordered, extra charges were added to the bill for a chicken burger and a hot drink. We sat down and had to wait around 30 minutes for our food to come. When it did finally come, it was thrown down in front of us and when I tried asking for some mayonnaise was ignored completely. I then started eating my chicken burger and halfway through bit into some sort of cling film or plastic, I was not certain what it was and called over the waitress. She said that it was part of the burger, which i found very hard to believe. I asked if I could have a beef burger instead and she reluctantly took it away. I then had to wait another 20 minutes for another burger which when I received, was very cold. Again, this was just thrown down. I found the staff to be very rude, and will not be going to the restaurant again, which is a shame as being a London Treasure and having thousands of tourists visit, it is not a nice experience to receive.

Only popped in here for a sit down and a coffee with a friend. Somewhat surprised that -even tho the place was 90% empty we- weren't allowed to sit where we wanted i.e. somewhere in a quiet corner, for a good catch up - and we and to wait to be shown to a table we didn't want to sit at. The wait for our order to be taken was inappropriate given how quiet it was. When our 2 hot drinks came they were -well, NOT hot. My friend took them back and we waited several minutes for the replacements to arrive as it was getting busier by then. They really weren't that hot even now but we weren't in the market for asking for them to be hotter again. All in all, hot drinks not hot enough and tables we sat at -one side a long shared seat - were far too close together to have a private conversation. Pity when we could have sat a little further away but were refused. With the choice of cafes etc nearby I will be avoiding this cafe on another visit if possible.

This restaurant was actually pretty good, my mum had soup and the rest of my family had the burgers and they were all good and made with good ingredients. The service was cheerful and good too we had a nice indian girl serving us and she was nice and bubbly. The soup was lovely and had a sort of Indian flavour to it with the coriander and just worked so well, the burgers were great. I had the Chicken burger with cheese and bacon and it was lovelyyy! Bacon was good with the cheese melted on the chicken fillet and the fillet was grilled so it was healthy and yeah it was great in taste. The atmosphere was ok I mean it was restaurant/ deli and the prices were pretty high cause it's London and a tourist attraction so I would say probably good to experience at least once but yeah I liked it there and I may go again but not something I would go to everytime cause it is a museum too. but overall I think it was good. The value depends on what you order I think

The pizza was fine but uninspired. Pasta with pesto and spinach was good. Service was warm and friendly and the food was served promptly. The atmosphere is, as you might expect, a little institutional but you are in an amazing building.

Expensive. Tiny portions. Little different between child portion & adult bar price. Chicken undercooked & soggy skin. Kids didn't want to eat their food as it appeared so unappetising. Not value for money. Poor food quality. Will NEVER return

A very frustrating and disappointing experience. I was reminded of the trips to museums as a child where the monopoly led to bad service. Having waited with my kids for 15 minutes, I we orders drinks only to be told the policy was that we could only order and stay in the mostly empty restaurant if we ordered food. No notice was posted along the waiting area and no willingness to accommodate us despite the ample space available. In the highstreet this is fine and simply to the detriment of the business when people go next door, but in the middle of a museum with the alternative catering provided by the same business, this is not acceptable.

Brilliant event, from the planning to the actual event itself. Food was delicious, service was fantastic and everything was just seamless! Kim was always on hand to help in the run up and Clara was great on the day - thanks to the whole team! Going to the pub afterwards in our fancy dress outfits was the perfect end to our time at The Phene. A fabulous work Christmas event.

For many years I used Greenfields where I received consistently outstanding courteous, friendly, and swift service. Now where are they? Food quality was always the highest and prices reasonable but creeping up forced upon them by rapacious landlord happy to cede their territory to the growing French / Belgian community. Was it not Bonaparte who referred to the English as a "nation of shopkeepers"? Is it not ironic, therefore, that where he could not win at Waterloo his descendants could in South Ken....

Went for a celebratory meal with my boyfriend and we are still dreaming about the burrata with the chilli breadcrumbs and the melt in your mouth rib of beef. Absolutely delicious food and a great atmosphere
