Anglesea Arms in Kensington and Chelsea

Looks like a nice pub on a corner at Chelsea borough and we decided to give it a chance based on the above but the first red flag came when we couldn’t sit on a bigger table (for 4) and we were offered a small table for 2 for the bigger table was later used by a couple…🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️ Then came the worst; the Sunday roast Beef or Lamb MUST BE avoided at all cost; both were very disappointing; both were extremely chewy, lacked of good juice and had little flavour… Only good to highlight from the menu was the dessert I’ll keep it a place for Drinks only…

I had such a disappointing experience at the Anglesea Arms. We waited an unreasonably long time just to be served, despite repeatedly trying to get the attention of the staff. Shockingly, when we finally managed to speak to someone — who turned out to be the manager — he was completely dismissive and didn’t seem to care at all about how poorly we’d been treated. To top it all off, the Guinness was honestly terrible. Won’t be rushing back.

Paramos a almorzar un sábado soleado y logramos meter una mesa dentro para comida y bebida. Los cócteles eran excelentes y la cerveza era (aparentemente) genial. Lo que nos decepcionó un poco fue la comida, que era comida de pub sólida, pero nada sobresaliente - perfectamente bien, pero se puede encontrar similar en la mayoría de los pubs arriba y abajo del país. No voy a comentar el precio (es Chelsea! ).

Acabamos de regresar de Londres y comimos dos veces en el Anglesea Arms con nuestra universidad - niños mayores. Está en un lugar tan lindo, en la esquina de una calle residencial, y tiene un ambiente muy acogedor. Hay una zona al aire libre en frente (hacía demasiado frío para nosotros, pero había otras personas por ahí! ) una vibrante zona de bar tanto para comer como sólo bebidas, y una zona de comedor específica más atrás. Nos gustó estar en el ambiente animado del bar, así que comimos dos veces allí. La primera cena que tuvimos (¡el día que llegamos!) fue realmente deliciosa. Ver fotos. Luego volvimos más tarde para su asado del domingo - - para experimentar el lleno en Roast Beef + Yorkshire pudding comida y mientras que a nuestra hija le encantó, mi marido y yo no pensamos que estuvo a la altura de la primera noche de comida (o domingo asados que hemos tenido en otros lugares). Pero en general nos encantó el ambiente, el servicio (tuvimos una charla encantadora con nuestro servidor Zayna que luego nos topamos en la calle al día siguiente! ) , y puedo recomendar la comida y bebidas, aparte de tal vez el Sunday Roast, de corazón!

The pub is great. The Scotch egg was amazing, but the roast was all right, not excellent. On the other side, the bloody Mary was bloody awesome.

Nice place to be and nice food. Despite it was extremely busy but staff kept on top of it and they are really friendly and helpful. To enjoy it properly, it is better to book a table with friends at the back.

I come here often. It is important to make a reservation if you are going to sit down for a meal. It is a local and a place where you can have a good time. The security is friendly and talkative. The sticky toffee pudding has changed and it was already delicious and it is even more amazing.

Nice looking pub, was looking forward to have a pint outside in the sun but chose to leave after my boyfriend and I were completely ignored by the bar staff for almost 10 minutes. We were stood waiting patiently to be served, it was not very busy, but the bar staff served about 7 other people who came up to the bar after we had got there, not even acknowledging us. We feel this had to do with the way we looked/ how we were dressed. We know it’s posh in Chelsea but in 2025 this is very poor! 👎🏼

Comida extremadamente decepcionante. Si cobras tanto (£ 30-40 por un plato principal) será mejor que sea extremadamente bueno. Esto no fue. Ni siquiera cerca. El wellington de ternera era duro y tenía un sabor hervido desagradable. Los delfines eran secos y sin sabor (y £ 9 para un plato "compartido" que habría alimentado a una sola persona). Textura y sabor como si se hubiera cocinado el día anterior. El entrante (ni siquiera recuerdo lo que tenía) era soso. No volvería a comer aquí.

Today I was lucky enough to visit a beautiful traditional English pub, the food tasted fantastic, I tried the fish and chips. The pub staff was friendly, everyone was very polite.

Went for a couples Sunday lunch as l know the pub and have liked it before so thought we would go for a Sunday roast. Shared the rilettes starter (fantastic) and got served our main. I had chicken, my guest had lamb. The first thing I ate was a carrot, it was cold - as was the rest of the dish. This is a pet hate of mine and so common with having a Sunday roast out. They’ve been cooked in advance and not kept hot. The potatoes were anaemic and not remotely crunchy, the hispi cabbage was cold too and the whole dish was bitterly disappointing. Yes the waiter came and asked if everything was OK and no I didn’t complain but only because this always ends in me getting my meal after my partner has finished. And serving cold food is a very basic error. One starter, two roasts, two small glasses of house wine and two AF beers, £104

Maravilloso wellington de ternera y una extensa carta de vinos para saborear pero en esta ocasión y será la última, me decepcionó mucho el trato que recibimos a la hora del cierre. A las 22: 16 un miembro del personal de seguridad intimidante grosero y demasiado celoso se acercó a nuestra mesa sin previo aviso y simplemente gritó “se acabó el tiempo”. Estábamos al final de una comida de 300 libras y tuvimos copas de vino llenas para terminar. No fue la experiencia más agradable, haciéndome sentir que no era un cliente valioso cuyo patrocinio a lo largo de los años no fue apreciado. El resultado fue que le pedimos al asistente del gerente, igualmente grosero y sin apreciación del cliente, que eliminara el cargo por servicio de nuestra factura. Sin disculpas, sin comprensión del valor del cliente. Sin respeto por la experiencia del cliente. El “gobernante” nos mostró entonces la puerta para hacer cumplir su ridícula e infundada autoridad recta, salió a la calle y miró hacia nuestra dirección cuando nos fuimos. Qué pena. No voy a volver. Realmente me encantó este lugar, pero este nuevo régimen no es para mí. “Se acabó el tiempo”, dicen. “Sal mientras puedas” le digo y nunca vuelvas.

That being said, prepare to pay on the high end of the city's price point for your meal here. Unfortunately, the drink offerings fell short of expectations during my visit. The cask ales were soured, suggesting the lines and cellar could use more attentive care. Even the cider I had was somewhat flat, which was disappointing given the overall potential of the pub. Service was courteous and informative, but the pace was noticeably slow, which detracted from an otherwise enjoyable experience. While the ambiance and food were exceptional, the issues with drinks and service left room for improvement. If you’re visiting The Anglesea Arms, I’d recommend it for the food and the setting but suggest caution when it comes to the ales (maybe try a cocktail or a bottled/canned option for beers/ciders). With some adjustments, this pub could truly shine.

One of favourite pubs and dining rooms. Couple of drinks in the bar and then taken into the cozy dinning room with fire. The wood panelling and candles give it a really romantic atmosphere. The food, as always, was very good. I choose the roast beef which meant 3 generous slices of rare beef with all the trimmings which were all cooked perfectly. Made room for the trifle that had gingerbread instead of sponge and was really nice and festive. Service was excellent as usual. Highly recommend.

Cold inside the pub, Guinness served in non Guinness glasses, steaks overcooked, staff took the plates away before everyone had finished eating. Not impressed but only place in the area with a table free on a weekend in December

Sorry but the pub/kitchen couldn’t cope with the numbers. Service was rushed but it did calm down, sadly not in time to salvage the dinner which was at best average..

Menu had a good selection and my choice was well cooked and tasty. The staff were can do and attentive. The atmosphere in the dining room was cosy.

Posto davvero molto molto carino, con atmosfera molto rilassante. Cibo che non mi ha entusiasmato più di tanto:  io ho assaggiato un doppio cheeseburger senza infamia, senza  lode (buone le patatine al contorno e la salsa). Birra (pale ale di due tipi) buona ma non buonissima.

Be sure to try a truly English pub.

Really very very nice place, with a very relaxing atmosphere. Food that didn't excite me too much: I tasted a double cheeseburger without infamy, without praise (the side chips and sauce were good). Beer (two types of pale ales) good but not very good.

Nuestro grupo fue unánime en su elogio de la comida en Anglesea. Tomé la sopa de cebolla como entrante y el tagliatelle como principal. Fue la mejor sopa de cebolla que he probado, delicada pero intensa al mismo tiempo. El ragu en el que estaba el tagliatelle era perfecto. Sabor profundo y bien redondeado que combinaba perfectamente con la pasta perfecta. No puedo esperar a volver.

He estado aquí de vez en cuando durante unos años, principalmente para unas pintas y comida ocasional, pero recientemente el estándar de la cerveza real ha caído. Sé que una pinta puede ser del final del barril y entiendo que no todas las pintas pueden ser perfectas, pero el propietario del TT era en el mejor de los casos promedio, así que cambiamos el Tributo. Bueno, no puedo creer que me lo hayan servido. Estaba nublado y realmente no necesitaba probarlo para saber lo malo que era, pero lo hice para confirmar que era horrible y lo envié de vuelta. Obviamente me pasé a otra cosa, el Guinness, del que no soy fan en particular pero que siempre es decente. El personal del bar, ya sea por desconocimiento de lo que fuera, no se preocupó por el Homenaje y no reaccionó cuando dije que estaba apagado y el barril se quedó encendido para algún otro cliente desprevenido, que esperaba que conociera una pinta mala (o repugnante en este caso) y lo enviara de vuelta también. Es un pub encantador, pero tan decepcionante el personal no parece preocuparse por la cerveza.

Lovely candlelit dining room and nice ambience but the worst pub food I have had for a long time. The roasts were completely cold x3, the Yorkshire pudding was, as a result, hard and stale, the meat was as though it had been out on a pass for at least 30minutes and the gravy was lukewarm. The potatoes were undercooked, the whole thing was like school dinners and it cost £26. It took about half an hour to arrive which is not too bad but that meant that the options were either suffering it or sending it back and waiting for something else, which we did not have time for and we were all hungry. One friend got the burger and he said this was fine (but again £21 for a burger and some fries...). Similarly the fish and chips tasted of pure oil, there was no flavour to the batter at all and half of the chips were inedible due to being undercooked. The mushy peas were as cold as everything else. We sent back one of the roasts, and made the waiter aware of the issues with all of the food. The waiting staff were nice but not proactive. Ended up paying about £40 each once drinks accounted for, despite it being an extremely low quality meal. Wish we had only come for a drink and saved ourselves the experience!

Mi marido y yo habíamos pasado unas buenas 4-5 horas aquí la semana pasada, tomando casualmente unas copas, viendo a un miembro de la familia que no habíamos visto en 8 años, y habíamos venido desde Escocia para ponernos al día después de que ambos habíamos perdido a la familia cercana en los últimos años, ninguno de nosotros estaba ebrio, ya que habíamos estado haciendo mucho más hablando que beber, por lo que pudimos decir que el personal dentro no apreciaba realmente, toda la noche se arruinó cuando salimos a despedirnos y nos separamos a eso de las 9 : 15 pm, fuimos acosados por un portero con un complejo eléctrico, que dijo que no nos permitían pararnos en la acera pública fuera del pub, que amablemente corregimos, y le informamos que podemos, es una acera pública que el pub no es de su propiedad, dijo que los taxis se detienen al lado de donde estábamos parados, y la gente espera aquí, a pesar de que no había nadie allí, es decir, persona esperando, taxi o de otro tipo, caminamos hasta la esquina lejos de la zona de taxis donde una pareja también estaba parada fumando y charlando, comenzamos a despedirnos por solo un minuto, pero luego fuimos acosados de nuevo por el mismo portero con un complejo eléctrico tratando de decirnos que teníamos que cruzar la carretera o algo así, señalamos a la pareja a solo 3 pies de distancia de nosotros que no habían hablado en absoluto, y nuevamente le informamos que no puede decirnos que no podemos pararnos en una acera pública, y le dijo que se vaya de una manera tranquila pero frim, luego trajo a un amigo afuera para hablar con nosotros, supondríamos que el portero principal, nos habló de una manera mucho más agradable, y luego dijo que los lugareños se habían quejado de grandes reuniones fuera del pub! Éramos 3 de nosotros y la pareja fumando, y los dos porteros y ahora el original (portero complejo de poder) ahora nos está filmando en su teléfono! 5 personas no es una gran reunión, y son sólo 9: 30 ! Todo esto fue absolutamente ridículo, pero todo lo que dijimos fue de nuevo que se fuera, lo que finalmente hizo y finalmente después de 20 minutos extraños de acoso innecesario obtuvimos los 5 minutos ininterrumpidos que necesitábamos para despedirnos! ¡Horrible experiencia! Muy poco recomiendo.

Me and my husband had spent a good 4-5 hours in here last week, casually having a few drinks, seeing a family member we had not seen in 8 years, and we had come all the way from Scotland to catch up after both of us had lost close family in recent years, none of us were inebriated as we had been doing much more talking than drinking, for which we could tell the staff inside didn't actually appreciate, the whole evening was ruined as we stepped outside to say goodbye and part ways at about 9:15pm, we were harassed by a bouncer with a power complex, who said we weren't allowed to stand on the public pavement outside the pub, who we kindly corrected, and informed him that we can, it's a public pavement the pub do not own it, he said taxis pull in next to where we stood, and people wait here, even though nobody was there, i.e person waiting, taxi or otherwise, we walked along to the corner away from the taxi area where a couple was also standing smoking and chatting, we started to say our goodbyes for just a minute, but then we were again harassed by the same bouncer with a power complex trying to tell us we had to cross the road or something, we pointed out the couple only 3 feet away from us who they had not spoken to at all, and again informed him that he cannot tell us we cannot stand on a public pavement, and told him to go away in a calm but frim manner, he then brought a friend outside to speak to us, we would presume the head doorman, he spoke to us in a much nicer manner, and then said the locals had complained about large gatherings outside the pub! There were 3 of us and the couple smoking, and the two bouncers and now the original (power complex bouncer) is now filming us on his phone! 5 people is not a large gathering, and it's only 9:30! All this was absolutely ridiculous, but all we actually said was again to go away, which he did finally and finally after 20 odd minutes of needless harassment we got the 5 uninterrupted minutes we needed to say goodbye! Horrible experience! Very much do not recommend.

Slightly strange if well meant service. Asking for dessert orders at 2140 before mains had arrived as kitchen was closed. So we skipped dessert. Also the 21 rule for alcohol a little annoying as we had our 19 year old son with. This is a UK restaurant not a US bar. Good food.

Came here for lunch on the guidance of Rick Steves and had a wonderful time. Went on a Saturday near lunch time and had not issue getting a table near the bar. Service was great and the food was delicious. Would definitely come back if back in the area! Although tipping is not very well known in the UK, this restaurant does include a service charge in your bill. Just an FYI…

Good atmosphere but DAMN £5.89 for an apple juice?? Mind-blowing. Man just wanted an appletiser and it wasn’t even that, just your flat 60p carton apple juice with a 10x markup. Left shortly after. Seemed like a good vibe (small and loud like everywhere else here though ofc).

The food was excellent, and the Beef Wellington was perfectly cooked. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient, making our experience quite enjoyable. The pub's dining room was cozy and charming; however, the bar upstairs was quite noisy, likely due to it being Saturday night. While this slightly affected the ambiance, it didn't detract much from our overall experience.

Veggie starters and sides were amazing but the veggie salad main was quite lacking in flavour. Service was really good.

Las porciones son generosas y el pub ofrece múltiples opciones de asados. Yo tenía una carne de res y mi esposa tenía un pollo - ambos eran muy buenos! ¡La próxima vez que estemos en Londres volveremos!

My wife and I went to The Angelsea Arms recently for lunch. We were in the area visiting the V&A and Natural History Museums. Pub is in walking distance to museums and South Kensington tube station. There is indoor seating by bar and separate dining room plus outdoor seating. Service was prompt. I had double cheeseburger and my wife had squash & lentil salad. Burger was excellent and hit the spot. Nice selection of beer and wine. We had a very good time and recommend.

Arrived earlier than booking, but was shown to table. Service was brilliant, I was with an elderly relation who was extremely impressed also. Food was great, and served with a smile. Perfect ambience, not too loud so able to have a decent conversation. Thank you for such a lovely afternoon

The staff was fantastic but a super loud table of guy’s were sat near us and we could t hear our selves. I should have asked to have them moved but it was a bummer. The staff as I said was EXCELLENT so you should please commend them.

My sister got ID by the moronic bartender woman for a Coca Cola….!!! A Coca Cola and she got ID’d and refused service. She is 20. Ridiculous place where you have to be 21 to order a soft drink, outdated and stupid.

We came here to celebrate our friend’s pregnancy - all of us have eaten here before albeit a few years ago and we’re looking forward to a good meal. Unfortunately we were left incredibly disappointed by a poor meal and even worse service. Our mains arrived before our starter so we sent the mains back. We had to wait ages for the starter to arrive and then even longer for our mains after we have finished the starter. We had ordered two steaks which arrived at the table cold. Cold because they had simply returned our original mains to the kitchen when we sent them back and put them under a heat lamp for an hour…when we questioned this they offered to reheat the steak. Reheat a cold steak that had been cooked over an hour ago because they messed up the timing of the order. No apology made. Because my friend is pregnant and understandably cautious about food at this time we asked them to cook fresh steaks. Not an unreasonable request you would think when you are paying £24 for a steak. They reluctantly did so after a fair bit of back and forth. The attitude of the manager was honestly astounding - very unapologetic, made us feel that our reasonable request was causing a lot of unnecessary fuss. Will not be eating here again and would not recommend to anyone.

Lovely atmosphere but they don’t cater for allergies. I’ve never experienced this before and had to walk out - very upsetting, do better.

We had a lovely waiter, however, the Sunday roast was cold, the gravy tasted like tomato soup and the portion sizes were inconsistent (small size for a roast and the price). Ultimately for the quality of food it was overpriced, we left to find other food.

Walked in and the server looked at us, came up to us and we had a table within five minutes. The server was excellent, he explained everything. Then the food was great. If we come to London again. I will be here also the Old Fashion was just like a Wisconsin Old Fashion.

The front pub area and outdoor space were great, but the restaurant was underwhelming and overpriced for what it was.

Came for the Sunday roast at 7pm. Pre booked as all we wanted was a Sunday roast. They had sold out early of all 4 roasts so we bought off the main menu. Was way better than most pub food was expensive for what we came for. Service was fantastic

Sunday lunch is ludicrously large. Quality good. All diners bunched together so claustrophobic, hot and noisy. Fire exit blocked by table with 6 diners.

Food was adequate but for the cost it was nothing special. Shared starter and Sunday roast was well presented but potatoes were overly crispy, and meat was very fatty. Charged £1 for extra small gravy boat. Beer wasn’t well poured with hardly any head. Waiting staff were polite.

Lucas, our waiter who was from Brazil was excellent. He was knowledgeable, kind, and gave superior service. The soup and Camembert appetizer were delicious, but we would go back just for Lucas’ service! Highly recommend in South Kensington.

We all had Sunday roasts. The lamb was very fatty and tasteless, and I was not impressed with the huge lump of cabbage as a space filler. Carrots were burnt. The waitress was surley and clearly not enjoying her job. A real shame as fond memories of great roasts there in years gone by I hope it was just a bad day

Nice location but of the three beers, the peroni was flat and ale was off. Being able to serve beer is pretty much the bare minimum for a pub...

My wife and I are from Orlando, Florida. While in London for a few days before boarding our cruise ship in Southampton, we are lunch at this lovely English Pub. If and when I am near Buckingham Palace in the future, I would definitely eat the here again.

Nice small restaurant at back of pub. Calm atmosphere which was lovely in London, staff were very attentive and quality of food was good. London prices of course so not cheap but a very enjoyable few hours and would recommend.

Excellent pub with outdoor patio. We had a large group of 18 for a private party and Sunday roast and everything was excellent.
