Deep Sea - Fish, Chicken & Pizza in Edinburgh, City of

This place is under new ownership- the chips are freshly cut and fried to order - burger cooked to order all very tasty. I was served by the new owner - a very happy chap who has great service skills.

Big kebabs and great guys behind the counter.

Essentially, followed my nose into this delightful place on our way to our rooms the first night in town, and we keep going back for more! Tastes as good as it smells. Hubby and I love their Doner kebab, and I was impressed by the portion size and freshness of the fish and chips. Don't believe me? Check the pics. He got the piri piri chicken & cheese topped chips today, yummy!! Tasty, fresh food at a low price compared to every other place of its kind in Edinburgh. A real gem!!! Editing because I forgot to mention the atmosphere: the place is small, but the staff is friendly, and I like the background music.

Brilliant place. I had a mixed donner box and my wife a fish supper. Both fresh tasty and amazing value for money. Made to feel so welcome. So if you can't get a table at any of the nearby rester aunts a braw wee cheeky dinner awaits. Thank you Big Pol and mrs Big Pol xxx👍👍

Bought a fish supper very late night and was so disappointed. The fish was fresh and the chips were fantastic but ithe fish had clearly been fried ages ago and was semi cold and it was fried in either old or dirty oil. Shame as there was a steady queue of people coming in and out so I thought everything would be fresh. I also asked for only a little sauce, and the dude drowned the chips! I'll give the place another go as it would have been a great experience if I asked for a fresh fry, provided the clean/ change the oil next time!

Very unhappy. Ordered fish and chips last night as a delivery. Happy with delivery time, food was hot, chips were lovely with their brown sauce, all good. However, can’t say the same for the fish. I broke the fish apart and all I could smell was raw batter, cooked on the outside but definitely raw inside. Ended up just eating the fish inside and when I finished, I picked up the battered parts and they actually flopped over and felt heavy. The smell and feel of the uncooked batter actually made me feel sick, has certainly put me off fish and chips for a while. Really a shame because if it had been cooked properly I would have easily enjoyed and be writing a much better review 🤮.

Our new go to chippy for these hangover days, very polite service and massive portions. There was one item missing from the order and they got it out ASAP, really appreciate it guys! Lady on the phone was incredibly polite. Would definitely be ordering again!

This is my second visit and my second review, after trying the wraps I and had a shot at the pizzas they’re offering. The hot and spicy pizza was yummy. There’s definitely some magic happening here. I dud try other shoos on Leith walk, so far, can’t get this out of my mind :)

Have just tried the peri peri chicken wrap there. Must say it was terrific. The wrap was fresh and the wrap was spicy and juicy, just as it should be!

An ideal place to eat a good fish and chips the food is so good and the best of all you have an endless supply ofsauces to choose from to add to the dishes. The people that work there are super friendly, I totally recommend it for a delicious easy dinner.

We had some incredible jalapeno poppers (they don't always have the ones from scratch, but if they do get them!!), a "small side salad," and an epic pizza. The marinated chicken is extremely good but with spinach, feta, and peppers it was a game changer. I'm not sure if this will be two or three meals worth of food, but extremely worth it.

Pizza is absolutely delicious. We asked for half and half pizza (one half olives and one half mushrooms with chilli on everything) this was not a problem for them. And to top everything off - there was a perfect amount of cheese! Highly recommended especially for late night orders.

Taste was amazing and good service

New managers are knocking it out of the park. Wish that it wasn't so affordable, and so good, as the amount of gym time I need to do now... But strongly recommend. Almost everything is from scratch and it's a game changer. My parents came to visit and I brought them here, and it was their favorite meal of the week long trip.

Absolutely wonderful food. The pizzas are fantastic! I've also sampled the chips and cheese and the donner. All great. Pizzas are the star of the show for me though. Lonely staff. Very friendly, very efficient and always happy to see returning faces! I'll be back!

An excellent hot meal in the early hours of the morning. Staff are absolutely lovely and have to deal with some incredibly rude drunk people and they still serve everyone with a smile.

Under new management and amazing takeaway. We had the lamb doner box with salad and chips, it was really good portion, the meat was good quality and very nice accompanying sauces. Highly recommend!

Some of the best service and food you can get especially late at night. The team that run this place are seriously good at what they do and always friendly and welcoming.

The new owner of this place is very friendly, and delievers top-notch food&service for amazing prices. Big menu, chips are fresh, with mushy inside and crispy outside; Fish is decent and reliable, nothing too fancy but taste just right, is what you'd expect for fried fish. Pizza is good, dough are on the thicker side but well-cooked so that it has a perfect softness, lots of options for toppings. Dirty fries really suprised me, had suggested adding poutine to the menu since the chips is really good, gonna see how that goes. The added menu items for kebab and calzone looks promising, will try them out in future.

Today, 11/13/2023, I respond to the very late response from those who claim to be the new "Deep Sea" administration. //. - I only trust you if you change the business name "Deep Sea Takeaway" to something else. I know it's just a strategy to win back customers. I don't want to get sick again and spend my money getting sick.

Chips were alright but badly cut and alot of the sides were uncooked sausage was not battered which I thought was the point too but could of not been apart from that workers talked about us behind our backs (badly)so the atmosphere was horrible all in all only if your desperate and there was hair on the food

It's been a while since I bought anything from Deep Sea but given its location, I expect it to be a good advert for Edinburgh. The chips were fine but the two individuals serving gave the impression they knew nothing about running a chip shop. Just a gut feeling but a proven one.

King rib supper and rump steak supper. Both chips were like raw potato and king rib was a sausage roll meat in batter. Ate king ribs for over 30years and this was the worse Iv ever had . Imitation king rib. Had better sausage roll in greggs.

Orders were1 king rib supper and 1 rump steak. Rump steak was delicious my wife said. But chips were hard. And I said my chips were hard also and my king rib was not a king rib it was a sausage roll in batter. She tasted it also said yes sausage in that not king rib. So beware. Cheap imitations discusted with the king rib and chips.

I wish I'd read the reviews before I visited. I ordered cod, chips and peas and then waited for a very long time whilst other people got served who came in after me. After about 20 mins I think they must have realized they'd forgotten as then then gave me a tray with chips. I asked 'where is the cod?' to which they responded 'we don't do cod.' At this point I was a bit frustrated as you'd imagine they'd supplement it with whatever fish they have. Clearly not a bright bunch and obviously disinterested. I would avoid this place. Go to Bene's instead - much nicer!

Wanted to try a fish supper in Edinburgh. Chips were fine. Fish had been sitting under the glass counter for who knows how long, was hard and more batter than fish. Ain't going back.

Don't waste your money going here. Chips are mainly greasy scraps so you end up chucking at least half of each portion away. The bread roll was a stale bap so also went in the bin. I wanted a battered sausage but was told, by the young lad, I had to have two! I said I only want one as it is for a child, can he really not give me just one? No, so I declined. They looked greasy anyway. £10+ wasted; I should have had a packet of crisps instead.

I came here from Canada with my wife hoping to enjoy an authentic fish and chips dinner. The fish was pre fried and warmed up before serving. I told the staff about it when they asked me how was the food. Their response was sort of telling me I didn't know what I was talking. They appeared combative. The order was served in less than 2 minutes after ordering. It confirms that the fish was pre fried. It was also cold and rubbery. Don't bother to go there.

The order took a long time , but the fish and chips were fresh, hot and delicious. I would recommend it for a late night take away.

I only gave 1 star as there wasn't and option for non, the food was the worst I have ever tried to eat, chips were cold and had been lying too long so were rubbery and dry, I asked for chicken breast supper as I don't eat the brown meat on chicken and was given mostly leg so couldn't eat it either, we also ordered king rib which was Luke warm and also rubbery, the young guy who works there was more interested in chatting and mucking about with his family/friends that were there for a while than concentrating on good service and nice food PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THIS TAKE AWAY

Went in and asked for a deep fried mars bar. The older gentleman got straight on it as you would expect, then suddenly a younger man chipped in and said we would have to buy two or he wouldn't serve us. He was rude and surprisingly combative. He wouldn't budge so we left with a bad taste in our mouths (without any deep fried mars bars). Overall an odd and unpleasant experience, won't be going back.

fish wasn't freshly fried, they pour ketchup and salt on top of the fish, didn't give tartar sauce had to ask for it, breathe had a fishy smell.

Worst food experience in Edinburgh. We ordered a burger, a pizza, doner plate and a pakora meal. Burger patty wasn't properly cooked and the the patty was just placed between the buns. No sauce, veggies. When I asked about it the person at the shop was informing about this burger preparation style in Edinburgh. He was saying that in Edinburgh it's a standard practice to serve all veggies and sauce separately. Oh what an excuse. The doner was shredded directly to the serving dish. It could have chopped down to small sizes. And the fries were awful. In total this place is good for nothing.

Popped in on the way home from a long day out. Our order was simple; there was only four of us and two of us only wanted a portion of chips. The chap serving got the order wrong on first attempt and didn't seem to comprehend what we were asking for. Anyhow got the food (takeaway) and returned to our apartment just around the corner from there. We then opened a very disappointing meal. The order was still wrong - we had gained, and most likely had been charged for, an extra battered sausage. This wasn't an issue in itself though. However, the sausage was rock hard and barely warm (we were literally a 5 min walk away) and the chips were awful. I would go as far as to say they were the worst chips I've ever had and I ended up chucking them in the bin. Best place for them sadly. As a result I would not recommend you get your (fish and) chips here - there must be better places out there.

Been going to Deep Sea for years and needed fed. So disappointing. Pie supper. Salt and sauce. Hadn't gone 10 yards to know the chips were stone cold. Staff surprised and couldn't understand it. Kindly offered new chips but tested temperature and barely warm. They seemed to disagree but very quickly offered my money back. They were disinterested and just wanted me out the shop. Poor show.

One of the worst experiences of my life. Battered sausage 0/10. The Chips where COLD. The young man inside the shop was unbelievably rude. The young man also tried to lie about the sizes of pizza to get us to spend more. All round awful customer service. The older man was very kind though. Very embarrassing for the younger guy. Everything was so expensive. £2 for a curry sauce. Will never return. Would rate 0* if possible.

Visited this place after a night out. Now we would eat anything after having a drink but this food (if you can call it that) was inedible. The choice of food was limited, we were told pizza and kebabs were off the menu as it was “too late” it was only 11.00pm! I know battered anything and everything is a Scottish delicacy but one unbattered option would have been nice. So on to the main issue - the chips! Undercooked, hard, anaemic inedible chips. They were disgusting and impossible to eat, even after a heavy day of drinking! We attempted to eat the battered haggis and hamburgers, but failed at the chips and so decided returning them was a must. Trying to address the issue politely we soon learnt that Customer service is not a high priority of the deep sea, and the hostile approach is favoured. £10 refund for this £30 supper was thrown at us and we were told to never return. Like we would want to ever again. This establishment can obviously only make money from drunken end of nighters that are too intoxicated to return the terrible food. Not us!!

Considerate and welcoming staff for a table of 7 adults and 5 children-felt safe with their covid precautions and their fish and chips disappeared very quickly as did their pizza with the kids. Highly recommend!

Vile disgusting kebab, it was dryer than ghandis flip flop. The kebab felt, looked and surprisingly tasted like rubber. Absolute waste of money, would NOT recommend.
