Anima in Edinburgh, City of

One of the best pizzas i have ever tasted, i had the Etna pizza, absolutely delicious. I had leftovers and it was still great reheated in the oven on days 2 & 3.

We have had the pizza and skinny fries (those are so good) a few times. It is always nice. The pizza varies and can sometimes be a little overdone, or not quite enough cheese to cover the base. But it is never a bad meal.

I usually love the pasta from here, however it arrived late and cold :( 3* as it could have been amazing had it been hot

Very close to the guest house I was staying at. Had pizza both times and a salad one night as well. Service was fast and friendly. If you have questions about the menu, just ask. Would go there again if in the area.

We dropped in for lunch. The pizza and salads were nice, but the pasta lacking some sauce. However, £14 for two meals, salad and drinks is pretty good value. We would return.

Less than half an hour in my view. I would write this off if it had only happened once. It's happened both times I've visited. I'll not be visiting again. What was the pizza like? Average.

Lovely pizza but posted opening hours are a lie. Always shuts early. You’re best off going somewhere else.

Cheap (£5.90) and tasty 10" basic pizza in a cafe setting. Made by Italians and served by an efficient and friendly Leyla.

Ive been an Anima customer for probably the last 10 year. Most of which it was consistently great, however recently it feels like its been taken over, sizes and quality seems to have dropped while prices rise. A recent delivery arrived barely warm and looking rather sad, sorry to say this will be the last visit.

Niby wloska kuchnia na wynos ale zaskakuje jakoscia. Bardzo dobre makaraony czy pizze. Mozna rowniez zjesc na miejscu. Ja polecam.

Ordered two make-your-own pizzas and was shocked to find out the cost of it. We realized that it was over a pound each for the chosen toppings, which in our opinion was a little bit too expensive. The pizza was however very good, but we would not return due to the price of a takeaway pizza here being the same as what you could get in a proper Italian restaurant.

I've ordered 2 pizzas for me and my girlfriend and I recived the delivery 3 hours after, plus the pizza was very cold cause was made couple of hours before...first and last time I get pizza from this place. I will make sure none of my friends will make the same mistake and call this pizza shop...

No nonsense, delicious pasta & sandwiches...the Lombardy pasta is outstanding & all made freshly....

I've visited this place a couple of times for pasta at lunch and although it is usually pretty good, I wouldn't recommend their carbonara. However I ordered a pizza from here over the weekend and it was amazing, probably the best I've had in Edinburgh. Already looking forward to the next time.

Ordered pasta carbonara (spaghetti) which was very bland with almost no flavour at all. Pepperoni & wild mushroom pizza was very disappointing as well - not a bad base but underwhelming flavour. Some parts actually tasted chemically as well. It's not exactly cheap either! Definitely will not be going back. It's a real shame.

Pedimos de nuevo recientemente, esta vez a través de la página web para la entrega. Todo llegó mucho antes de que el tiempo estimado de entrega era genial y de nuevo, la comida era deliciosa. Se lo recomendaría a cualquiera que los pedidos de pizzas de determinadas cadenas, el estándar es millas sobre y, de hecho, es sustancialmente más barato.

Ideaal voor een snelle Italiaanse hap. De pizza's waren lekker, de burgers ook! Prijs/kwaliteit prima. Maar verwacht niet de betere Italiaanse keuken.

Delicious lunchtime pasta this time and bruschetta..but we had to have it as take away as Anima was about to shut..so check opening hours. The food is really excellent and the service pleasant and friendly. We'll be back.

Voy a L'Alba D'oro relativamente frecuente y generalmente es una muy buena "fish and chips". Este lugar con las entregas y ofertas fue horrible:

Hemos estado comprando pizzas aquí por muchos años y siempre solía esperamos ordenar desde aquí ya que la comida era estupenda. Pedimos 2 x 12 pulgadas y 2 peces de las redes x12 Pizzas hawaianas, ni siquiera la de 12 pulgadas de tamaño. Las raciones eran absolutamente (art.81 topping. Había 1 gambas diminutas en cada uno de los pescados pizzas y 1 pequeñas, neto pieza difícil de piña en cada una de las rebanadas de pizza hawaiana. El jamón también estaba grasoso y era de mala calidad. Les llamamos volver a protestar y no nos ofrecieron ninguna alternativa de pizza o descuento. Me siento defraudado ya que pasé 40 libras en estas pizzas para mi cumpleaños y madres té como un estudiante que realmente no puede permitirse ser arrojando dinero literalmente por el desagüe. No pensamos volver.

No compramos pizza desde aquí por un tiempo. Utilizamos al amor pizzas y siempre están diciendo anima nuestros niños deberían pedir Pizzas en vez de la basura anima de Dominos. Por desgracia mi Pizza anima era casi incomible. La experiencia fue el mozzarella galletas insípidas. El chico que sirve de (jamón era todo en una porción de la pizza aparte de un cubo pequeño muy grasos. Las coberturas restantes fueron incluso menos en evidencia. Una porción de la pizza tenía un sabor de algo increíblemente fuerte muy picante, que no habían sido ordenados. La pizza era tan desagradable que tiró en la basura.

Tried Anima on recommendation of a local friend and wasn't disappointed. I had an Artisan pizza and it was delicious. The whole place looked spotless and the staff pleasant. Job done.

Often travel 15 minutes in the car just to pick up a pizza from this place. Manages to outdo any big-brand pizzerias easily with authentic Italian taste, the pasta dishes are also very impressive and the service is always good.

Solía visitar anima regularmente cuando asistir a conciertos en la Iglesia de Stockbridge. Como cabe esperar, ha cambiado el menú. Me decepcionó un poco que la deliciosa ciabatta ahora bastante limitado en el menú. Sin embargo, disfrutar de algunas pastas. El servicio era bueno, aunque nos sirvieron nuestras comidas a unos 10 minutos aparte.

I know that everyone's take is different but in my view the pizzas are overpriced and lack toppings. I've had two now and disappointed on both occasions. Maybe it's just my preference but whilst the taste is fine, the toppings are frankly disgraceful. To pay the better part of a tenner you'd expect a decent pizza with plentiful toppings but alas it's more like eating dough with cheese on top. Not sure I'll visit again.

Pizza and pasta are good but the delivery time is horrendous. They allocate you a delivery time of 90 minutes after you order online but the past couple of times we ordered pasta it came 30 minutes after that...that's 2 hours wait time. Additionally, they do not offer compensation or discount for being late. If you can collect then go for it but if it's delivery you're after look elsewhere!

A bit pricey unless you take advantage of a lunchtime special or similar, but the pasta is perfect and the coffee hits the spot nicely.Seating is basically bar stools around the windows, and MTV is always playing on the TV, but the food makes up for it!A bowl of fusilli with diavola sauce is a real pick-me-up.

After working around the corner for a few year's, my team and I always have to indulge in a "pizza day" at some point. The Anima lunch deal (any pizza/pasta £3.99) is a bargain. Always made to order, friendly staff and delicious food eaten in or out. I work with a guy from Boston and he claims this is the best pizza he's tried in the UK...! The pasta is lovely too, although from the reviews on here it looks like maybe there are different staff on in the evening? Definitely give this place a try!

Regularly visit Anima for a takeaway pizza and it is always lovely (although maybe slightly expensive). However, the pasta was awful - I was not fresh and clearly has been made hours earlier then reheated. I called up the restaurant as I did not realise until I got home and the staff were extremely unsympathetic and borderline rude. It has completely put off my boyfriend from eating her so we have gone elsewhere.

My wife and I are from the Chicago area and travel to Britain very often as we have lots of friends and relatives there. We stumbled upon Anima a few years ago and gave it a try. First of all, the place is VERY clean.....even immaculate. The selection and quality of the food is also superb. We now go back to this fine establishment every time we visit Edinburgh!

Anima by far must rank as one of Edinburgh's finest eateries.Delicious homemade food, the ability to create your own pizza and pastas from a wide range of toppings together with an excellent range of drinks desserts and sides.I really enjoyed my chicken dish and my husband (who is extremely fussy) was very impressed with his burger.I have to also say this eatery is also spotlessly clean which I like. Staff are very efficient and friendly. There really is a nice buzz about this place, decorated to a high modern standard.A great place to unwind with a nice glass of wine, would highly recommend

Just ordered 2 x pizzas and at £18.00 we were looking forward to something nice.I had a 12" seafood or "Fish Net" that was a total rip off. A bit of a tin of tuna, 5 tiny prawns and 3 tiny pieces of anchovies. The dough was nice but the tomato sauce must have painted on and then scrapped off. All in all never again.My wife had a 10" pizza, same tomato sauce, with sweet corn, mushrooms and cheddar cheese. Her response was "Never Agan" .So, I'll stick to Mammas at the Grassmarket, far superior, better service and real prawns.

This chipshop has always had a good reputation. However tonight we decided to order a home delivery. Phoned in at 8 Pm still had not arrived by 9, phoned up, no apology for late delivery and where told it would be 20 mins. 40 mins past and phoned again reply it will be with you in 15. Eventually 2 hours after placing order food arrived and guess what it was cold. Sent it back, so going hungry tonight. Will never use this chippy again. Horrendous service!

Bought a pizza and became really disappointed. Even though it was a lot of ingredients like sausage, mushrooms, onion and salami it was completely without taste. Nothing to recommend.

Very good pizza and pasta and I hear the burgers are also delicious. Good range of drinks desserts and sides and a huge range of quality pizza toppings. Being able to create your own pizzas and pastas is great! Service is efficient and friendly. Very nicely decorated very modern and comfortable. Would highly recommend

Used to be my pizza delivery of choice, but after successive orders it's clearly gone down hill. Pizza's used to always arrive hot, crispy and with great toppings. These days it seems like 50% of the time you'll get a luke warm, soggy mess, with last weeks ingredients. It's a shame really, when it's good, it's great. But now it usually isn't.

Living around the corner for several years and still working on the same street, I have nothing but praise for Anima, to which I am a regular customer. Their pizza is of particularly good quality compared to other similar places, and the price is fair. I, being a glutton, am always slightly underwhelmed by the pasta portion sizes, but the quality is very high. The order online collect in store functionality of their website worked extremely well? Allowing me to arrive 15-20 mins after an order and collect with no wait. Great establishment!

Love the authentic Italian pizza bases, with the choice on different sauces and a very wide range of delish toppings. Fast delivery and easy to order online. The fish and chip is amazing as well. Love this place! Also good if you crave a bottle of wine with pizza and can't be bothered going outside in the rain.

We placed an order online, waited 45 mins to enquire as to time of delivery and told they were very busy and would have to wait 30 mins to 1 hour further. We cancelled. Sort it out animo. We won't order again regardless.

I used to frequent Anima a lot, however I will not do so anymore after my first visit this year. I ordered pasta for collection online. When I arrived the food was waiting, however it was vastly different from what I had ordered. In fact, it was a completely different meal. The over-jovial yet useless clerk did little to improve the situation. Although, she did leave some nice sweaty patches all over the brown paper bag the food was inside. As I was in a rush I accepted the food as it was. However, I wish I hadn't. The pasta was of poor quality and the source was no more than a tub of single cream. I suffered stomach cramps as a result of eating here and will not do so again. Avoid!

Got a delivery from here the food was absolutley disgusting we ordered a tomato and basil pasta and a spaghetti bolagnase we couldnt tell which one was wich the garlic bread was cold and our cakes were still frozen in the middle when speaking to a member of staff she didnt really care and was only bothered about how much of the food we had ate which was only mouthfuls! Never eat here againn

I pass Anima on my walk home from work and will usually pop in once a week to pick up a takeaway (and so remove the need to cook!)The menu, billed as 'Italian Soul Food' on their marketing material) offers pizzas, sandwiches and pasta dishes all at very reasonable prices. Vegetarians have a good choice in here and, in the event that you do not see anything that you like on the menu, there is a 'build-your-own' option. The staff are incredibly attentive and friendly and do everything necessary to ensure that you get exactly what you want when you order - offering different types of pasta shape/cheeses on top/extra cutlery for takeouts etc.

We've been living in Stockbridge, Edinburgh, for 2 months at the time of this review. Anima is one of those rare finds that you just have to tell people about. It's not big, it's not glitzy, but the food is just AMAZING! Packed with flavour, and for a reasonable price. We like to nip in for lunch whenever we get a chance, enjoying their sandwiches or their pizza, or their pasta al dente done right. While Anima can occasionally be passed over because it is right next door to the Alba Dora, a similar lunch place that has been mentioned warmly in dozens of magazines and recently by National Geographic Travel, Anima gives them a good run for their money. If you can, go to both! I've heard they don't do supper as well, but haven't tried it...

Brilliant brilliant place! We ordered home delivery for the very first time from Anima based on reviews online and we weren't disappointed at all! They were very punctual, professional and the food was incredible. We could taste the freshness of the dough and ingredients and it is the best pizza we have ever had in Edinburgh. Until now, we swore by La Favourita but the pizza here was better and we all loved the fact that they let the dough, the sauce with the toppings do the talking and didn't douse the pizza with cheese like a lot of other restaurants and take-aways. Fabulous! These guys will be home delivery no:1 favs from now on.

Been going to this little italian takeaway shop for a wee while now, take away or sit in at the breakfast bar Never had a bad meal from here yet, the food is fast and very tasty the staff always friendly and smiling happy to help you choose and suggest if you are stuck :-) I would recommend the pasta agricola with spinach and ham perfect and very very tasty along with a 12" pizza chicken red onions and peppers . And if you want some chips you can nip next door and bring them through awesome ;-)

Theb1gman has sampled various delights on several occasions from this fast food establishment with mixed fortune. Decent food, reasonable sized portions, however a little pricey and once kept theb1gman waiting over an hour for his fish supper. Overall, a good bet.

We have been told to go try Anima by a taxi driver, who apparently goes there regularly. We did, and must say, after a long day in Botanical Gardens, the food was absolutely amazing. I ordered their Special Pasta of the day and it was really lovely, definitely fresh, generous portion too! They also let my boyfriend eat his haggis, that he bought in the fish and chip shop next door! Very friendly staff, they gave us advice on what we should see - cheers for that Paulina! We'll surely come back before our holidays end!

Just bought 3 deserts from there (not all for me!) the lady took them out the 'fridge' but they were hot! Quelle Surprise! What is this madness? Really, if you're going to sell rocky road it's better cold than a soft mush in your hands. Sort it out.

Sometimes one just cannot be bothered to cook, although I don't think that excuse is even needed to go to, or book a delivery from, Anima. Delicious pizza that tastes fresh and genuinely cooked to order. Even my 12 year old son has been converted from the chain alternatives. What a massive choice of toppings. There are pasta options too. Becoming a Friday night regular with us when we are at home.

Ponto nº 1, não pense que vai a um restaurante. É um espaço pequeno, apenas com possibilidade de comer ao balcão. Se isso não for um problema, é certamente um espaço a ter em conta, tal a qualidade do serviço. Excelente para quem tiver pouco dinheiro na carteira e quiser provar ou recordar comida italiana. O staff não podia ser mais simpático, esforçando-se para nos fazer um guião da cidade, sempre de forma muito amigável.Além disso, é o preço é relativamente baixo, o que faz deste espaço um local a visitar sempre que tiver por perto.

Per gli italiani che si avventurano ad Edinburgo! Anima è un'isola felice. Sono stato nella capitale scozzese per circa un anno e mezzo nel 2008, e per qualche tempo ho lavorato da Anima in cucina. Al di là che il cibo vi piaccia o meno, il posto è molto pulito, sono rispettate tutte le procedure haccp, ed il personale ha il compito di pulire quotidianamente le aree di lavoro.è un posto che avrebbe da insegnare anche a molti ristoranti italiani, ci torno sempre volentieri da cliente.

I love going in here, the atmosphere is always vibrant and friendly. The staff are always smiling and are great at suggesting new things to try. I love their pizzas as well as their cake selection. It's also great to pick up a unique bottle of wine to take home and drink with whatever yummy food I've brought home :)

Only place in Edinburgh I get a Pizza. Fresh ingredients, great selection of dishes all prepared before you. Sit-in or takeaway, I would definately suggest their daily special pastas.

Inconsistent food quality either really good or really poor. Over-priced.
