Luxford Burgers and Lounge Bar in Edinburgh, City of

The Luxford Burgers is one of these places folk rave about in the local press, social media etc. The food is fine. But it's completely ruined by poor service. I booked a table for five people and when we arrived we were met by staff who it seemed just couldn't be bothered. We were asked if we were ready to order before our full table had arrived. Then we were asked a second time and they still hadn't arrived so we asked if we could order drinks, to be told they "usually do it altogether" and we were informed there was water. It then took ages for them to come back and actually take our order. Then not everything came at the same time. The burgers arrived first on their own with chips and sides arriving a few minutes later. They'd massively mixed up our order, and ignored us when we tried to point this out, adding things on to the chips we simply hadn't ordered and bumping up the price. It then took them ages to clear up the table and bring the bill which we had to query due to the above issue. They had the cheek to add an optional gratuity as well which we were very clear we would not be paying. As for the food, well, it was fine. The burgers were tasty enough but the fries and sides seemed to be frozen rubbish you could buy from Aldi. All in all, a really disappointing experience.

I don't understand the poor reviews. Had a great meal, served swiftly, and we'll certainly be back! Genuinely great burger. Price is average for Edinburgh - fine with me. Yes, there are online orders, but we didn't find that to be an issue at all.

Dissapointing. Having walked past this resturant a good few times, I was tempted by the interesting names of the burgers on the menu and it always looked quite nice inside. However, when I visited, the chicken burger I got was disappointingly dry, the sauces rather flavourless and the candied bacon bits in the burger were so hard that they were essentially inedible. The waiter was trying his best, but seemed inexperienced and was running round trying to fulfil the never ending stream of deliveroo drivers coming through the door. It just seemed like the restaurant left him there with a lack of support, it wasn’t the waiters fault at all. Perhaps I caught them on a bad day, but considering the price of the meal I highly doubt I will be returning.

the food is delicious. i’ve tried the chicken tenders, the katsu fries, and the strawberry milkshake, but i have no doubt that anything would be good. just pretty expensive for what it is, thus four stars not five

Great burgers, fries and service. Three generations of family there and all enjoyed it. Place was a bit cold so wear a jumper!

Extortionate prices for what it is, chicken tenders, katsu fries and biscoff cheesecake are all absolutely awful. Onion rings weren’t fully cooked. Their Google ratings are also fabricated as they offer vouchers to give 5 stars. In total we spent £70 and could be the worst money I’ve ever spent.

The service was friendly but the waiter was extremely busy fulfilling delivery orders so service was slow, I actually felt sorry for him rushing around. The food was very very salty and the whole restaurant smelled like oil. I'm not sure I'll go back at £25 for burger fries and one beer.

Ordered from the Glasgow branch - Do not order there! It's way too expensive for what it is. We ordered from deliveroo as it was well reviewed but discovered afterward it was only because they offer a £5 discount if you leave them a 5 star review. What a scam! Very disappointing business behaviour.

Burgers were overcooked and dirty

Ordered through Deliveroo! Service was so quick and food arrived piping hot! Everything tasted unbelievable particularly the parasite burger which I HIGHLY recommend! Isn’t our first order and won’t be out last ♥️

Me and my boyfriend discovered this place during lockdown when places only delivered. It instantly became our favourite order, both for takeaway and in person. We’ve tried a range of burgers, sides and milkshakes in this time, and I can safely say they are delicious. My friends who are vegan/vegetarian also cannot talk highly enough of these options. You can tell they use high quality ingredients, especially the meat. The bacon is crispy and never fatty. The bun is substantial and never soggy. Their homemade sauce is delicious. My only criticism is that I am no longer in the area so I cannot go anymore!

OK as a takeaway, not OK as a restuarant. Staff literally running through the ‘restaurant’ with bags of takeaway food.

Man am I bummed! Luxford is my favourite place to eat out when I come to Edinburgh. I've been coming here since they opened. Visited recently and the quality just isn't there anymore. The club dressing is absolutely banging but everything else was a disappointment. The food was crazy salty, leaving my lips sore and making me thirsty, and the beef patties were definitely frozen and not as high quality as previously. They were overcooked and rubbery to eat. It hurts my heart to say I don't think I'll be back.

Very overpriced for what you are getting. Meat was very dry, and there were not that many toppings on any burger.

Absolute joke of business, first ran fake advertisements and leaflets asking for 5 star reviews for every meal from them and they promised you £5 for every review. However after i reviewed couple of them, they only decided to give me only £5pounds after around 10 5* reviews. Contacted the manager and the restaurant and they seemed very sketchy, stating that i need to leave written review alongside the 5 star review to be able to get 5 pounds from EVERY order. However the manager then came back to me making up that that I will not be given any extra credits even it i add written review to already existing reviews. Do not let the reviews fool you, this is why they have such good reviews, as they paid for all of it and scammed people. Hope people do not order from this unprofessional business.

When we were greeted with "I'm sorry, I know we do burgers, but we've run out of beef" I didn't have much confidence, but I couldn't have been more wrong - the chicken burger CHANGED MY LIFE!! crispy crunchy chicken, incredible sauce and a bun that magically didn't disintegrate at all, plus truffle+parmesan chips that ACTUALLY served two people, mmmmm!! 2 burgers, 2 drinks, 1 side for £50 so not a cheap night out, but I'd happily pay good money for THAT CHICKEN BURGER any time.

We ordered 2 beef burgers. They tasted good but we found pieces of bones in both burgers. The quality of meat is rubbish... never again..

Its OK - but the service was slow (only one poor guy trying to do everything) and most of the items were unavailable. Not cheap for just a burger either.

I have to say it was pretty descent. Ordered The Labyrinth burger which came with a very cool sticker 😆. I don’t know what they did to it but it tasted pretty good and the beef tasted fresh not frozen. I did ask for extra Lux sauce which made the different as it had smokey flavour. Chips were descent, not soggy (they use good boxes) and their garlicky Club sauce was perfect for dipping. I think they also used Maldon sea salt for the chips which is fantastic! I just wish the chips had more rosemary. The salad was very fresh - I could taste they squeezed some fresh lemon on top, it had actual mango pieces as well as fresh herbs and fresh guacamole! Yes, actual mashed avocado! Not bad at all. Felt like it was made by a chef who cares and likes his job. Thank you!

Had food poisoning from the chicken, burgers were undercooke, chips basically flaccid. The waiters were nice but that's about all I can say. Too expensive go to five guys if you want a good burger

So we arrived at 6pm Saturday 19th August, hoping to eat before Fringe show. There was approx 3 tables occupied. When we asked for table for 2, we were told they fully booked, which I found hard to believe that all thise tables were going to be occupied within next half hour!!! The guy that spoke to us was not very helpful or welcoming and we felt he really could not care. Would not consider returning because of this experience.

Their Fringe stand in Potterrow is a nightmare. Shouldn’t take 20 minutes for two people to make a burger, especially as I was the only order at the time.

Love this place very relaxed setting Posters on the wall are all movie themed with burgers themed combined in the movie title. Burgers are top notch very good. Excellent food and service, however the atmosphere was spoilt by a member of staff who felt it necessary to run all the time between the kitchen and deliveroo drivers, bar area and tables. He nearly spilt our drink in his haste to bring it and constantly rushed by our table which was unfortunately near the entrance.

La verdad que la atención fue fantástica y la comida no tiene desperdicio. Algo que podrían mejorar es la decoración del local (le falta un poco de vida y de chispa) pero lo más importante es que la comida estabadtante buena y lograda.

Good food. I tried The Fight Club and Oreo milkshake and they were really amazing. Me and my family ate something before getting in there, and so we just ordered burgers and drinks for each of just. Staff members were not quite friendly (maybe because we didn’t order any sides?). Kept asking us to order other stuff and when we wanted to pay for the bill, they seemed not willing to set the payment machine for us. I will give 3/5 for overall experience.

Such a cute burger and chicken spot with super friendly staff and cute posters. Food came out so fast and was all delicious. Try the house sauce with your fries or halloumi fries.

The food was unbelievably good. The burgers were well-priced and the chips were excellent - we had the chicken skin seasoning and it ticked all our boxes. Would definitely go again!

Ordered via deliveroo and their Instagram images are very misleading. Whilst the food was good the portion sizes are deceiving.

We had the lost in translation (chicken thigh burger with wasabi paste, avocado and ginger) and the chicken katsu fries. Everything tasted great (the burger was worth at least a 4 stars), except that it was all a little too salty (which was a little annoying and thus decreased my enjoyment of the food).

A hidden gem tucked away on a corner of Edinburgh's Southside. A cool, hip American/movie-style burger place.

This is my favorite burger joint in Edinburgh. The burgers are always juicy, large and with lots of toppings on a gorgeous bun - you'll definitely need a napkin for these gorgeously messy burgers! There is a wide variety of burgers to choose from which are themed on various movies and there are seasonal specials. My go-to burger is the Chicken Run - seriously the best chicken burger I've ever had! Fries are tasty and there is a good range of other sides. Definitely recommend!

We ordered the City of Lost Children and the Westworld burgers, onion rings, fries with dips and lemonade. All were delicious and tasted fresh. It was a quiet day. The service was super quick and very friendly. Great choice of music. Restaraunt and facilities were clean. Bonus points for the movie posters and food puns that any movie fan and/or graphic designers can appreciate.

We order a lot from here and usually really enjoy the food but a bit shocked by the poor service today. Ordered at Holyrood Distillery (which I highly recommend) following the tour but Luxford messed up the order and had to cancel. No big deal, the distillery told us to go to the restaurant instead but ended up waiting a further around 1.5 hours (after an hour already before we found out they cancelled, so 2 and a half hours from ordering food) and other groups who arrived after us got their orders first. Not even that busy (around 3-4 groups in the restaurant and a few delivery orders) and barely saw any food leave the kitchen so no idea why it took so long. When food finally arrived barley an apology and to be honest it didn't taste as good as normal either. I'm not demanding a discount but it would have at least been a gesture to offer one after such poor service. Such a shame as we live nearby and usually like ordering from here quite often, but a bit upset by the whole thing today and don't think we'll be ordering from them again

DO NOT BOOK FOR YOUR WEDDING (or event). Stick to the restaurant. This company is not set up well for wedding catering. Guests left without food. Pregnant women and children had a 2hr delay to be given any food. Sadly as delicious as the burgers from Luxford were - they arrived to our wedding over an hour late, then discovered a gas leak, thankfully they fixed this, but somehow still took 2.5-3hrs instead of the 1.5hrs promised on booking (as I was concerned that a street food style van would take too long and specifically asked this ahead of booking). I was falsely reassured and on the day long after the gas leak was fixed and the dispute with other staff regarding who served the food was settled they still failed to provide the service as agreed. No compensation was offered and even the apology for ruining a large part of our wedding day was sent alongside excuses and factually incorrect accusations about who was to blame. I have spoken at length to my other suppliers and the arrival time and slow service on Luxford's part was at fault. Great restaurant. Tasty food. Extremely disappointed that we choose them to cater our wedding day as this caused us considerable stress and upset. DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AS WE DID.

Booked online but when we turned up the door was locked. No sign on the door and no contact made to inform of of the closure and booking had been accepted. Tried to phone but my call was cut off. Member of staff sitting inside saw up and then just walked through the back. Really disappointing and will not be back.

Chicken is really succulent, and the sauce is alright, but my order of fries was swimming in salt, to the point it was near inedible.

Chicken run burger was brilliant, chips were okay but needed salt and were a bit soggy. Milkshake was really nice but the dulce de leche cheesecake was a total let down. Had a strange intense flavour and the texture was completely off. Not worth the amount they charge for it.

Great food! The place could do with a little more ambience and with only one server who was also in charge of managing many deliveries service wasn’t always as efficient as expected given only 2 tables. However all of us loved the burgers (no mean feat with two very discerning kids!) and would go back.

Delivroo rider here, don’t know what all the fuss is about done numerous deliveries in this area and luxford never fails to disappoint, most of the time they bring the food straight to my car which saves me getting out, lovely staff

I came here to try a burger as I am something of a Burger 🍔 foodie and this place just takes the biscuit. I was greeted by a scruffy looking chap who looked very hungover and didn’t want to be there. He reluctantly sat me at a table in the corner of the restaurant and threw some menus down. After that I was left waiting ages before anyone took my order. I ordered the highlander burger and it was over cooked and had no pickles even thought it’s supposed to and the fries were soggy. I demanded a refund and was given a huff and puff scenario that was rather egregious. This place is RUBBISH! On top of that, the restaurant is freezing cold and the decor is tacky and rubbish. AVOID!

They don't supply what they say they will to the customer, they are unprofessional in their communications and they do not deserve your money. Burger missing ingredients when I tried to find a resolution they ignored my messages on facebook. I received the burger via deliveroo. The burger was missing ingredients: there was no wild rocket in the burger as described just a limp bit of not very well washed lettuce. There was hardly enough brie or mango either. A lack of care obviously went into preparing the item. I ordered this because I was at home sick with the flu in bed. When I tried to find a resolution they ignored my messages via facebook. Their ratings are so high on deliveroo because they give people £5 vouchers for good reviews on there. It's already a high priced dinner item. They don't deserve your money.

Ordered delivero on Sat 18/3 for all my staff who are working 15hours a day for the last several days for Mother's day weekend. My order arrived in two parts how odd. Even delivero driver said the wait time for collection was supposedly 5 mins but had to wait 25 mins! Order came hour apart from the first and was missing burgers and fries. Horrendous service. If you can't cope with doing takeaway orders as well as restaurant service therefore pause or close down takeaway. Clearly can't cope with demand and dissaponting customers. Now I have two members of staff who are still hungry and are working late in to the night. Very dissapointed, henceforth I won't be using your service again after spending £105!

Our third visit - reviewing as so surprised at the negatives which maybe come from people ordering online. We’ve always sat in and it’s been great, we don’t live in Newington but it’s worth the cab fare. Generous chips with great toppings and burgers delicious.

Smallest piece of chicken on the burger, cut in half and there was no meat in one half. Chips were cold. Flavour was good but overall disappointing.

The milkshakes are amazing! Unfortunately the vegetarian burger I had didn’t taste very nice and the waiting was too long.

Have only tried two burgers but both were great !

Me and a friend were looking for a burger place to eat yesterday and stumbled across this place . We were able to grab a table without a reservation last minute. We were server very quickly and the food didn’t take long to cook. This was hands down one of the best burgers I have ever tasted! I had the lost city of children burger (I’m sure that was the name) you won’t regret trying it! The fries were amazing! you know they’re good when you eat them before the burger haha. I would highly recommend this place, great service and we will definitely be back to work our way through the menu!

I must say. That was the worst burger ever. I am not sure what is going on with luxford as the quality and the taste of the food isn’t the best as I first ordered from them. Considering the price; I paid almost £50 for my burger meal and got my sister a burger too. Her order was completely wrong, I asked for no American cheese and it had American cheese. Not the first time I’m not happy with luxford. for the price that we are paying, it should be up to par, and what is the quantity of the chips? It looked terrible as well. Luckily I got a refund, never again.

Avoid at all costs. Ordered twice and both times items were missing. Tonight we tried to order 3 burgers and they only sent 2. Half an hour spent trying to get through to restaurant to request a replacement, but Deliveroo wouldn’t supply phone number, and Edinburgh branch kept hanging up. If a restaurant is incapable of counting if 3 burgers, which have been paid for, are sent to the customer, they really don’t deserve to stay in business. Both orders we have paid extra for Luxe sauce and on neither occasion had the sauce arrived. Is this just a scam? First order fries were missing too. Total shambles. Avoid at all costs.

At 8.45pm, almost an hour after my order was supposed to be ready by, I asked your staff to cancel my order and give me a refund. They apologised for the delay and said I would get a refund. Ordered a meal deal for two from Deliveroo and only received 2 cans of Dr. Pepper. Tried to phone up the restaurant to rectify, but the phone was slammed down each time shortly after answering without saying anything. Tried to claim a refund for the missing items and was only offered £2.40 back from a £35 order, and had to call Deliveroo to get back the remaining amount. Delivery time was fine and the driver was great, but service from the restaurant itself was terrible - shall not be ordering from here again, and I warn anyone against ordering from them on Deliveroo too.

You always take ages when ordering via Deliveroo, even though the riders have been waiting outside the restaurant for well over an hour. Treat us and your delivery riders with respect. If you're going to say that I'll receive my order at 19:45, then it shouldn't arrive at 21:15. Don't keep us guessing nor keep the poor riders waiting outside the restaurant for this long. I forgave it the first few times but this is the last. Bread Meats Bread and BBurger are better anyway.

I went to this restaurant several times. Sometimes they make very delicious burgers but sometimes they don’t. However, I really like their food and the way they name the food!

Been here a few times and was always amazing. Went last week and the chicken was dry, the food just seems to have plummeted. Although service was friendly wasn't worth the price.

Extremely disappointed. Small, soggy fries with no hint of salt or rosemary, rip off for £3.50. Both burgers came hilariously wrapped in loose foil which ensured both burgers arrived cold despite the speedy delivery. While the Shrek burger had redeeming elements, the chicken Donnie Darko was joke! Lightweight, gappy, blackened chicken pieces under cold cheese with the extra mustard sent separately :( For around £10 for a single burger it’s coming across insulting, feels more like an opportunistic business venture, Never again.

We attended Luxford burgers after passing it several times and seeing photos of the burgers online. Unfortunately our experience wasn’t up to our expectations. We were sat next to the door - which at one point was even propped open to speed up deliveroo orders - not something you’d like when the temperatures were -2 outside! Our food took nearly an hour to arrive. The 2 chicken burgers were over cooked to the point they tasted too burnt and the other burgers arrived cold. The restaurant only had ourselves and one other couple which shouldn’t have warranted such a long wait. However, we felt as though the online orders were prioritised over both ourselves and the other diners. When we first mentioned this to one of the waiting staff they were fairly dismissive claiming “there’s nothing I can do”. However, the second waiting staff member was extremely apologetic and was quick to rectify the issues. We hope this was just an off day as we were made aware several kitchen staff members had not shown up. We hope to come back again at some point and be able to update this review for the better.

Waitress was very friendly and welcoming but then unfortunately we waited an hour for food to be served. The restaurant was very cold. My turkey burger coating was burnt yet the burger was cold inside. The other member of waiting staff on shift was not very accommodating and their attitude left a lot to be desired. The chips were very nice! Thankfully they acknowledged their shortcomings and only charged for sides and drinks. The restaurant was very busy with deliveries and hopefully sitting in meals can improve in the future.

I used to order a lot of takeaway from Luxford back during the COVID pandemic and it was amazing! They had amazing burgers and very nice gluten free buns upon request. I loved having a place that I could it amazing burgers as someone that can’t have gluten. A couple weeks ago I decided to pay them a visit in person for the first time after the opening of their new place and I was excited. However, to my surprise they didn’t have gluten free buns that day, which is understandable, so they offered to give me a bun less burger. I figured it was just that they didn’t have gluten free buns that day so didn’t think much of it. However, I decided to give them a try again past Friday and again and they informed me they no longer have gluten free buns. It is very sad that I can no longer order from Luxford, a place that I used to love, because they don’t have gluten free options, so I won’t be returning. Nonetheless, the burgers are delicious, they have vegetarian options, and change their specials frequently, so I definitely recommend to anyone.
