Really nice place to eat "Fish & chips, and more" All of our visit there was incredible. My wife and I went to "Castle Rock Fish & Chips" and we were talking with the owners about we were in Edinburgh because It was our honeymoon vacations, then they asked to us where came we from... And we said "¡Mexico!" To that point, the owners had a conversation with us, we were talking about our trip, the meal was really incredible and the enviroment was really cool. (They put some Mexicans songs to us and they gift to us a "Fanta" because we never taste that type of flavor) I love that place, I love it! Absolutely wank I was in there for an hour and still they got my order wrong I complained and did not get anything back at the stupid old hag at the till should never be aloud to work there ever again I am really disappointed

Took half an hour to make our order, then tried to feed my vegetarian friend smoked sausage. They forgot to put the chips in with my fish and it was so greasy it was difficult to pick up. Good sausage though.

Great place for take away. I think it was the best kebab that i tried in my life (i know, weird that it was in Edinburgh). I read some comments about them being impolite but i think the people were mocking clients but in a fun way, we went several times since it was close to our hostel and we loved it! I will definitely come back

Quality fish and chips, instant service, massive portions. It was slightly expensive but definitely worth it - £24 for two suppers (fish and sausage). The sausage supper had two large sausages. Delicious! There's a small table outside but really this place is takeaway only. Lovely benches just across the road anyway.

This place is alright, came in for a quick takeaway. The fish was kinda dry and the garlic sauce was lacking. Bummer they don’t have tar tar sauce. Price makes sense since it was in a touristy area.

BIG portions. Fish and chips tasted delicious though I would have preferred they asked if I wanted the ketchup on the side instead of all over my fish. A friend ordered the pizza. It looked good too... Deliciously greasy. The chicken burrito was huge as well. Great street food.

I am a real connoisseur of fish and chips. I love fish and chips, particularly in Scotland and particularly in Edinburgh because of the salt and sauce. However this chip shop is possibly the worst one. I’ve had in Edinburgh the fish was greasy and was almost anaemic but worst of all the sauce was not what you would expect from Edinburgh fish and chip shop. It was too thick. it was not good the chips were also greasy lukewarm and pretty repulsive if you want to have fish and chips go somewhere else do not go to this place it is right on the grass market it is right beside all the touristic points but it does pretty bad fish and chips at £11.90. I threw half of it away. There is basically no redeeming feature to this place. I’ve got indigestion because the sauce was so awful. And you probably remember me because I asked for extra sauce thinking it was gonna be like the real deal well believe me it certainly wasn’t. You need to go back to the drawing board.

Went to try the Scottish classic of 2x fried Mars bars, £8 later, underwhelming and under cooked.

Really upsetting, the guy made us wait for 15 minutes and then told us to order on the screen meanwhile the whole time he saw us waiting at the counter. Poor service I don’t want to ever go back here. better to just go across the road.

It used to be really good food, Now third time in a row it's trash, don't go there 🤷‍♂️ Old dry meat, didn't add any sauce (I did request it) salad not fresh, just really bad kebab.

Skip if you can. Worse place for fish and chips. Eat something else.

It was an amazing experience, I'm so glad we ended up there, totally unplanned! It was my bday and I mentioned it to the lovely chefs, they made a little special for me! Super friendly and smiling, and their fried mars bar is just exquisite 🤩

I was excited to try the fried chocolate bar and happy to find what that offered also fried Snickers and not only mars.

Honestly the worst fish and chips I’ve had, in fairness the chips were quite nice although you didn’t get many, I should have walked away when I saw so much pre cooked food, the fish was Luke warm and limp/soggy and had prob sat there with the other 10 fish for half an hour, my guess is they expect everyone who eats there to be pissed and that’s probably correct as most people in there were definitely pissed. I can only comment on the fish but there was so much precooked battered food I can only presume it’s all soggy as it’s all been sat there. If you need to soak up a skin full of alcohol I’m sure it will do the trick if your not pissed I’d keep walking

The pizza was so good. The cheese was melted and the crust was crunchy yet soft. The minced meat pie was so good too it was to die for. I definitely recommend.

£9 for 2 portions of chips?! I know its tourist central, but come on. Chips looked good but were cold and under cooked. Drowned in sauce, presumably to disguise this. Chips went in the bin soon afterwards. Staff obviously not interested in quality of food as long as they get your money. Won't darken their door again.

Seemed to be the place to stop late for some food. Fish and chips were decent and their garlic sauce was not bad, next time I’d just ask for light sauce.

Quick service but barely warm, had clearly been sitting there for a while. The black pudding tasted like an old brownie, the fish was decent and the deep fried Mars bar was yummy. There’s only two places inside to sit fyi so you’d mostly likely need to get takeaway

Sorry to say, worst fish and chips I've ever had. More batter then fish. Chips are hard and seem raw. Terrible. Guy had an attitude serving. Can't wait to go back to my local in London for some real fish and chips.

This place is great. Chips and nuggets are always hot and delicious, the staff is friendly, and of course, you can’t beat the location. The garlic mayo is especially yummy. I keep coming back!

Just bought me and the wife a bag of chips each at this chip shop which used to sell great chips, unfortunately these are the worst chips I've had in my whole life, they were soft, cold, greasy and to be quite honest they should have paid us to take these chips away. They were disgusting so went straight in the bin. Scott. 😮‍💨

A Scottish chippy as I remember it. Absolutely delicious...jumbo haggis, white.puding and chips were all fantastic...washed down with a can of Irn Bru...a real Scottish welcome back home from New Zealand.

Staff were incredibly rude. After saying hello the person behind the counter didn't respond and continued fiddling with some dough for the next 5 minutes I tried to order some food but continuously ignored so I left and found somewhere else to eat. I would not eat here on the principle alone. Give other food places near here your business as they have better manners and by all accounts better food.

Very rude, they speak very badly to people and seem to make fun of them. We found this fish and chips our first day. The food is not bad and is abundant, very easy food: in addition to potatoes and fish, there are hamburgers, pizza...etc. They go a little overboard with the salt on the potatoes. The location is great, right in the grassmarket, you can sit and eat there, but there is very little space, the concept is more takeaway. Recommended quality-price. Especially on a day when you are in a hurry and looking to eat something quick.

They are very rude and speak very badly to people. It saves you because it opens late but they are shameless. The ridiculous burger (bread and steak) and the potatoes we didn't even talk about. I give them a 1 because it doesn't leave me 0. Better go to sleep without dinner.

What an experience. The service was nice and polite. But the food was a disaster. This was one of my worst fast food meals. The pizza was undercooked in the centre and not crispy. The ham was moulded meat. We also had a burger with fries. The meat here was also terrible. A cheap frozen paddie and the fries were terribly soggy.

Come to Edinburgh on business about once every two months and what i learned was chip shops are either top notch or else a big ball of gick. This kip is the latter, deep fried haggis was stone cold in the middle the batter was dirt, the chips were soggy and lukewarm and the scampi was reformed cylindrical pellets of god knows what. I will not be turning this experience into a sequel 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮

Amazing food, very kind and hospitable chefs, and fair prices.

My daughter, my wife and I visited castle rock the first week in march, we asked for some chips and my daughter wanted to try a battered mars bar, so the man behind the counter opened the chocolate bar and prepared it, a few minutes later the food was ready the chips were 2-3 times cooked and my daughter ended up having an anaphylaxis due to her peanut allergy because the fella gave us a battered snickers instead, we spent the rest of our trip to Edinburgh in the hospital

Did not enjoy the fish and chips at all, the batter was all soggy, chips were not nice and to pay nearly £12 was ridiculous, I've had better for half this price!

After being tipsy from the whiskey tour, this place was a good stop to cure our semi-unconsciousness. The service was fast and the guy was helpful enough, not so much possibility to dine the dishes in since they just had very small corner to enjoy your food. The fish and chips were so so, actually nothing special, but was good after whiskey tour 😝

Small place, more than anything to order on the go. There are pizzas and fish and chips, you order them to take away and eat them in front of you. I was served by some Turkish guys who were all Boca fans, incredible. I send you a hug.

It is a 1 star restaurant when you are sober. The food was not enjoyable at all and we threw away most of what we had ordered (Chicken nuggets, Cheeseburger, and Chips). Even the chips we ordered tasted bad. Do not recommend at all.

Not cheap but very tasty! First time ever trying a battered Mars bar, amazing! It was that nice I went back the next day for another! The chips are very good here too! Nice and chatty staff.

Unbelievable bad. The soggy fish & chips was the worst I've ever had, and the doner kebab was really flavourless, even drowned in sauce as it was. Far and above the worst thing I've eaten in quite some time and made me sick to my stomach for a few hours afterwards. Avoid at all costs.

Absolutely delicious Fish and chips! It was recommended by a delivery man around the corner and it didn’t disappoint !! The fish was. Crispy on the outside and flaky and tender on the inside. Absolutes "Must-Try", wenn man in Edinburgh ist. Hier wird alles in die Friteuse geschmissen, was nicht bei drei auf den Bäumen ist: Mars, Bounty, Snickers und Bananen... Man muss ggf. etwas Zeit mitbringen, denn dieser Laden ist nicht nur bei den Touris kult. Die Sitzgelegenheiten draussen (drinnen) könnte man noch "optimieren", aber man kommt ja wegen dem frittierten Gaumenschmaus dort hin.
