Went to Debenhams Cafe yesterday and ordered a bacon sandwich. The bacon was, in my opinion, slightly undercooked but worse than that I had to take out half the contents as it was pure undercooked fat. Got the photos to prove it! Won't be going there again. Complained to the waitress and she said she would tell the chef. Watched her and I don't think she did.

Whilst i was trying to find a seating are for 3 (that were taken up by single persons) my Mother and partner were waiting in the que to pay ,she moved around a customer to pay and was told in a rude manner by a young blonde haired girl that she had jumped the que ,when she appologised she was the spoken to rudely by the other young blonde service staff . As i said i was trying to find a suitable table for us to sit at whilst this was going on ,tbh its a good job i didnt hear this conversation. I simply cannot fault the staff because they always provide great customer service and friendly attitude, however the food really let my visit down. Whenever I come here I go for the fish and chips which is always cooked to perfection, but I wanted to try something different. I went for the macaroni and cheese with a choice of vegetables. Why wasn’t I given a choice? I was curious as to why it came out so quickly considering I was told it’ll be over 15 minutes. The picture below was what I was given. Overcooked and raw pasta with a soggy, boiling hot cheese sauce that tasted like it had been in the microwave on full whack. Vegetables (peas and carrots) were undercooked, cold and watery. Think I’ll just stick to my usual next time, not very impressed.

We saw what they had done wrong they Mis read the waitresses writing she had written 3 GB , scrambled egg white . So didn't read the three GB's. Just saw scrambled egg white . Easy mistake to make . They gave of two free pots of tea for our trouble which I thought was kind of them .

Visited just before 2pm on a Sunday, the place was not busy, only around ten covers, the operation fell at the first hurdle when trying to find out just what hot food they had available, the staff member on the hot food servery simply did not have the slightest clue as to what was available and what items made up the various meals on offer, sadly this young girl merely confused both herself and the couple in front of us, so much so we abandoned the idea of hot food and opted for a fresh cream cake and some tea. Her colleague was of a similar age group but was much clued up as in how to handle and serve customers dealt with hot drinks and the till, we found a table and then found out had we ordered hot food the wait could be up to fifteen minutes, something not mentioned to those who had ordered hot food. The tea and cake were fine, the cake being nothing special for the £3.50 charged for it, the restaurant appeared as redecorating had been started and then forgotten about, yes lovely views of Exeter whilst eating and drinking, but they fail to make up for the dismissal service and very poor food selection on offer.

I have eaten here on many occasions and previously had lovely service and reasonable food . The views of Cathedral Yard and across the city from this restaurant are excellent . My first experience of breakfast here will however be my last ! As always till staff could not have been more helpful and obliging . However I had ordered my own five choice breakfast menu and when it came to my disgust the 'scrambled ' egg was chopped up fried egg with large lumps of white albumen . Had I not been on crutches I would have left the meal to complain but as it was already quite cool when delivered I felt it best to eat at least something as had an early meeting that morning . There is no excuse for this happening . The restaurant was far from busy ....two senior staff were having a breakfast meeting and there were two other diners..I am sure the staff had properly scrambled eggs !There can be no excuse for the lazy sloppiness I experienced .

Can't express my disappointment enough following a recent visit to this cafe. It started when I selected a pannini and was told that it was a 20 minute wait which I accepted as the queue was moving extremely slowly. I then got to the check and was told I would have to pay extra for cream ( in a cream tea). When we got to the table I found the cream to be frozen solid, which at the time was amusing. After 30 minutes I explained to the young waiter the situation. He came back and advised me that our order had fallen into the deep fat fryer!!! (Really!?!)He apologised and offered us fresh drinks and a full refund. It's because he was so sweet this review gets a 2 and not 1.Eventually we received the pannini, the drinks never arrived and I was only refunded the money for the pannini. Definitely not your best day Debenhams

We were told we would have to wait for half an hour for the chips to be done (really! It was lunch time)! It wasn't even overly busy and found a seat easily, the fish when it finally came out was so over cooked my mother couldn't eat it, needless to say we wouldn't use it again or recommend it to anybody, we then went and paid more money at another venue and had decent food.

Ordered cottage pie, plate hot on arrival, lifted 'lid' of the mashed potato and steam came out from mince. Great! Then tentatively tasted mash in case I burnt my tongue, but the only kind of burn I would get is freezer burn as potato was icy cold! Spoke to the lady clearing tables and she was apologetic and returned it to the kitchen. Then she came back to me saying they would cook another one. Fair enough, I waited patiently whilst my kids ate theirs and eventually mine came out. Indeed it was a new one, not old one reheated. Bit into it, and it was hot. Next mouthful from the middle was fridge cold again! Returned it again. Said I didn't want another one as I had been put off and they offered a free cake but I had already purchased one in advance to avoid long queue and bad been staring at it for half an hour waiting for my first course! I needed something quick, aside from being hungry, my children had finished theirs and we're getting restless and I was worried my baby would wake and I wouldn't be able to eat in peace. In the end I had a jacket potato which was charred and barely any actual potato left. Got my money back for my cottage pie but that was it. By the time I was eating my meal, my son needed the toilet so had to leave instructions for waitress not to clear away whilst I took all three children with me. Finally ate chocolate brownie and thankfully it was delicious! If I visit it again, I will only have tea and cakes!

Much to my better judgement we went to have lunch at the restaurant on Saturday. I say my better judgement because each of the last visits have got progressively worse and I haven't enjoyed a visit. This however will be my last visit. We stood in the queue for at least 20 mins, waiting to chose from what after all is not a very challenging nor exciting menu. Only for the fact that we overheard customers ahead being told "only one more jacket potatoe" did we realise we wouldn't get our complete choice and made a second choice. The staff refilling the muffins had no manners, not even saying excuse me to refill the plates. The two women taking orders were run off their feet trying to do drinks, take orders, refill cutlery and take money. The general feeling however was they all wanted to get home. The restaurant itself was shocking. Used dishes everywhere. The young girl coming out from the kitchens had no idea how to clear a table efectively, nor did she realise that on returning to the kitchen she could clear a table. Then when our hot food was placed on the hot plate a bell was wrung but no one came. After all the wait and with my anxiety rising rapidly I just went and got it myself!I can only believe that Debenhams don't want or need to make a profit from this restaurant. The lack of organisation and management in there is sad. It used to be well managed & efficient. They have a prime view of the cathedral and a captive audience however whilst we were there we saw at least 3 groups of people leave before they even got to the counter because it was so slow and then overheard other customers unhappy with the whole experience. My mind is made up. I shall not give it another chance.

However, this was more than disappointing - eggs that had broken in cooking and were hard, dried up bacon and congealed beans! It certainly doesn't deserve the designation restaurant. Its just a large cafe, sometimes a bit on the cold side too. I still wonder why they removed the sofas and chairs. It has very little atmosphere but to a large extent the view is a huge asset. From the moment you enter the cafe your eyes are drawn to wall of windows with views across to the cathedral. Without the view the cafe would be totally lacking in any atmoshere. The food is mainly okay and the pastries enjoyable. I find the prices reasonable especially as, as an account holder, I get a discount. The staff are usually quite friendly though when we visited on Boxing Day there was a very grumpy lady in charge. We both had turkey roast with a drink, the roast was lovely and hot with all the trimmings, all for £15 ( as I have a gold store card I do get 20% discount). Down side is that they have changed the coffee they use, so latte is a bit watery, and tastes a bit instant.

A restaurant with a great view of Exeter Cathedral but awful food and service . We ordered breakfast , had to wait along time (the restaurant was not that busy ) . The food was served on cold plates ,the two rashers of bacon was one cut in half ,the fried egg resembled a hard boiled egg (well over cooked ) ,no free toast and the rest was not much better .I used Debenhams feedback system to complain. I was then contacted by the Food Sales Manager and offered a free breakfast .Today ,a month on from our original visit we called in the restaurant for breakfast ,this time only a limited menu available because of equipment breakdown .We choose white breakfast baguettes and coffee .The coffee was in paper cups and was not provided with enough milk .When the food arrived one baguette was as ordered the other was brown bread , I was told they had run out of white , I was not given any choice .My wife can't eat brown bread , so I had to . One bite of this was enough ,instant indigestion ,I did not eat anymore ,we ended up going somewhere else .If you like a great view ,high prices ,poor quality food and service this is surely the place for you , if not ,do what I intend to AVIOD and go somewhere else .

My husband had a breakfast bap which came with two sausages. Instead of the sausages being cut length ways they were just placed whole in the bap. It made it quite tricky to eat, not sure why they did that. It was hot and tasty though and well priced. My husband got me a cappuccino. The lady doing said she's not very good at them. When I drank it it was awful and now where close to a cappuccino. I took it back and told her it wasn't a cappuccino and she flippantly asked me what I wanted instead and I had a filter coffee which was much nicer. She didn't apologise either which annoyed me.I think if Debenhams offer nice Italian coffee's they should train their staff to make them properly. I love my coffee but wouldn't go back there for one again.I used the baby bottle warmer. It was grubby in the bottom and needed to be cleaned. So we wouldn't go back there for food/drinks again.

On a shopping visit to Exeter, and short of time we visited this restaurant. My wife had a jacket potato and I had fish and chips. Both meals were beautifully cooked and in particular the fish was a good portion not lost in batter. My wife said the jacket potato was really well cooked.Followed by a nice cup of tea and coffee, the whole experience was excelent. It was all reasonably priced ,the place was really well run and the staff were charming.

This restaurant is a great place to view Exeter Cathedral with floor to ceiling windows - the menu is cafe style with no frills, you have canteen style service with a light choice of meals for a lunchtime snack at a very reasonable price, good coffee and pastries. The atmosphere is pleasant and the Decor is bright and modern.

The "restaurant" has a great view of the cathedral and over Exeter. The service is friendly enough but visiting on a Saturday afternoon is the same old same old. Detritus from everyone else!!

I'm a fan of the debenhams cafe, especially for the wonderful view. However, everyone in exeter seems to have the same idea and you'll struggle to get a window seat! A lovely, baby friendly cafe. Quite large so you'll usually get a table, food is good although a bit on the pricey side. I think a jacket potato and latte costs me just under £10! Staff are always friendly, good selection of cakes, too. Overall, a great place to refuel during shopping,

The Debenhams Cafe used to be so much better in the early days. There was a mix of tables and chairs and comfy leather sofas and chairs. The sofas and chairs were removed to make more room for tables and chairs. This was such a shame. For those wanting coffee and pastry or a sandwich the sofa area was great. Now it's a large, very echoey place. It does though have wonderful views. The cakes and pastries are good. Pity it's lost a lot of its atmosphere. It's not really a restaurant now. Just a large cafe.

I ordered a large cod and I received instead a chicken burger with chips (I don’t eat chicken). Tried to call multiple times but no answer.

My daughter suggested this place as it accepts dogs. Luckily, her dogs behaved, unlike the German Shepherd near to us. This dog was a massive distraction. That aside, the food was good but overpriced imo. Staff were courteous but I probably wouldn't go back.
