Deano's Trattoria in Gateshead

Now called the Italian kitchen.......ordered a takeaway, 2 garlic mushrooms, 1 margarita pizza, 1 calazone pizza, 1 chips.......over £36 for a takeaway, calazone not much bigger than the size of a large hand, strangest taste of a pizza we have ever had, the ciabatta that the garlic mushrooms came with was on the bottom so that was very soggy, not our idea of nice food, staff were lovely.

A rainy night on Tyneside considerably brightened by our experience at Deanos. If the table hadn't been booked we likely wouldn't have bothered, but pleased we did. Nothing was too much trouble for our server Anna who deserves special mention. The meals were very good, and according to the 9yr old member of the group his Bolognaise pizza was the best ever. The seven empty plates, apart from the kids pizza crusts, spoke volumes. Never had a bad meal here before and tonight kept that record up.

I had been wanting to try the Tuesday night buffet for ages. I thought that if there was quite a few dishes to try I could try something new and see if I liked it or not. The starters were really nice but I did think there would be more choice of main dishes to try. There was only 2 I tried as I don't like hot dishes. I think even adding a couple more dishes would be good. But it was still good value and still had a great night.

I really enjoyed my experience here, I found the staff very friendly and approachable.the food was lovely and excellent value and not a bad glass of red either, I'll definitely return

Just been in for a meal with the family. All ordered various meals (steaks/chicken/risotto/kids meals) and all were cooked to perfection. I'm always weary of ordering steak when out as dread it coming and being too fatty or not cooked as we like it. Never a problem in Deanos. Clear plates all round and room for dessert too!!

The restaurant decor is very cute and very cozy. The menu is reasonably priced and meets the expectations of the price. Although, great for the price, the food was a little bland - I ordered the carbonara and it was very oily - the butter was separating on my plate from the sauce. As a starter, I ordered the "Mediterranean toasted bread with cheese" which was just a baguette with melted cheese. For two courses for £9 or something like that, you cannot go wrong however there are better Italian restaurants.

OK food but the waitress forgot parts of the order so we had to wait some time. We had give message twice after the original order that we were still waiting on all the food.

Girlie ( 50 somethings!😉) gathering! Ambience was laid back. Clean and welcoming. Efficient and friendly staff. We all chose different dishes, but all agreed the food was decent quality and plentiful. All plates were cleared, so that's a good indicator! Will be back for sure!

Booked table for 6 people at 630pm, we were told no other tables were reserved, so expected service to be pretty quick. The restaurant had loads of walk ins, so became busier quite quickly. We were served our drinks within about 15 minutes, but starters never arrived for a further 45 minutes. We weren’t too bothered because we were chatting anyway. Main meals were served about 40 minutes later, except for one meal, this was delayed a further 15 minutes. Not sure why it was so late. However, the food was delicious so no complaints there. Very good value £7.95 for 2 courses; the drinks however were more expensive £2.50 for lime & soda !! Lovely restaurant, will probably come again because food is so good.

Last Saturday, my sister was set the task of organising a family dinner for 13 on very short notice to welcome our family members from South Africa. No small task. We settled on this place due to location and reputation. My family were seated and I was late (as usual) but our lovey server Ian was super fast getting me sat down so we could take advantage of the special that night. Now, for a restaurant to do a special on a Saturday is pretty rare and to honour it when it could have easily been refused was the first step in the right direction for me. Ian was on the drinks in a second and went above and beyond to find a non alcohol beverage that wasn't a soft drink for my husband. He even asked advice from my self and my son (who works for Fenwick food and beverage) to find out all he could between low alcohol and no alcohol, which showed he is very passionate about his roll. Orders were taken swiftly (not everyone ordered from the special menu but it was incredibly well priced at less than £8 for 2 courses) and our food was delivered in good time, drinks were offered by a young man helping our table and he was super efficient and patient with us. Our food was lovely. Hot, fresh and tasty. No complaints at all. We had a slight mix up with a steak dish, Ian was completely transparent about the issue and had it rectified in record time. We were kept topped up and checked on regularly but not intrusive in the slightest. The restaurant is traditional, friendly and comfortable. As a group of 13, we were perfectly comfortable. The cost was at a few hundred pounds and we were more than happy with that. This was not my first visit. I have been with my sister and father for lunch a few times in quieter afternoons. We would never have known it was Saturday night at the busiest time, we were not rushed and felt very welcome. Ians service could not be falted. If I owned a restaurant, I would be happy to have him in a role as an instructor and mentor to team members. Thank you for a lovely night, we will definitely be using you again for family dinner!

It was ok, we have been before and it's been lovely but this time portions are visibly smaller, the £7.95 deal is good value but the main menu less so. Steak was ok nice enough but nothing fantastic. The waitress we had was lovely though very friendly

Had arrived in Newcastle for the night and had went to see if we could get serviced. At first they advised that they were booked but minutes later, the charming gentleman sorry we never got your name said he had found a table but would need to leave in 90 minutes as was booked. We can not thank you enough for going out your way to fit us in. Menu amazing and great value for money with 2 courses for £7.95. Definitely recommend the black pudding for starter and my partner loved the homemade soup. We all had pasta which was perfect. I would go back next time we are in the area.
