Went for Sunday lunch with my parents and had a great day. It's a big, bright, spacious restaurant in a great location. Very friendly yet professional staff and a relaxing atmosphere. the food - apart from the vegetarian options - were excellent and imaginative. the vegetarian options seemed like a mismatch of side dishes - e.g. polenta with rocket and wild mushrooms. To be honest, it was a bit like baby food. However, it did not mar our afternoon and starters and desserts were sublime and I would certainly have no hesitation going back

As a London worker who comes to Belfast regularly I have had the opportunity to eat in all the best restaurants in Belfast yet I always come back to Deanes . The quality of food with the best service rises above all the 'restaurants of the moment' . I have ate in all of his restaurants depending on time of day or type of client and all of the restaurants meets and goes beyond my expectations . I have just had a relaxed Friday lunch (after an intense am meeting)in Deane and Decano and again food totally on point and superb service from Andrew - thank you ! In a nutshell gives quite a few London restaurants a run for their money !

Service was fantastic, staff were very attentive. We had scallops to start, cooked to perfection. Then gnocchi with beetroot was light as a feather. Finally the desert is one of the best I have ever had chocolate brownie, kirsch cherries, corn flake crumb and honeycomb ice cream. The brownie was moist and deliciously rich and chocolatey and the ice cream was melt in the mouth. We had the pre-theater menu so it was better value for money. The only slight criticism is that the portions are on the small side so if you are super hungry you should order a side each

Fifteen minutes before food order taken. No nibbles. Three small scallops for £12. Salad ingredients served at fridge temperature. Chateaubriand sold out at8.30. Steaks at £26 full of gristle- strongly suspect not ribeye cut as advertised (we eat Hannah's beef regularly)- not properly crusted on outside. Dessert was thin slice of cake with dots of chocolate. 400 per cent mark up on wine. What's to like?

I was expecting so much from this experience that I ended very disappointed... I got the tickets on April and waited 4 months! You start with small plates in Deanes Decano that is a lovely place, then you go to Deanes at Queens and you can't even see the person doing the cocktail because it's in a corner and either you get there first or you simple don't see. We stayed there for around 1 hour, so they give a cocktail and a starter (fish cake). Then you go to Deanes in city center where you get your main and finally the cheese board at the last Deanes in town. For your main you get a chicken breast that doesn't taste anything, if you don't mix with the very few tiny pieces of bacon there's no flavour at all. The vegs were completely raw... The potatoes where the only thing that were good to be honest, at least with some pepper and salt! If at Nando's the chicken it's more flavoured! Then we went to cheeseboard and here you don't have any drink included and at this stage we have already spent around 40£ to get an extra glass in each place because the amount of time that you're at each one whether you get another drink or you look at other people drinking which it's not exactly my thing. So we got a glass of wine each and ate 2 pieces of cheese and that was us.And for the service that you get, I truly have to say no.... The lady that goes with you from place to place she's nice but at the dinner specially the waitresses were not nice at all. They just would came and leave the food in the table, we got a plate of vegs and potatoes to share by 6 people and when I was finishing that's when another plate came... In conclusion, we have spent £180 to have this experience and never again!!! NOT WORTH THE MONEY YOU PAY!

Deanes Meat Locker was so good that I had to come back the very next day to try Deanes Love Fish sister restaurant! Deanes was by far my mom's and my favorite restaurant on our European adventure to London, Belfast and Dublin. Can you imagine a minute steak tasting like filet mignon?! I was skeptical about the cold foie gras because I prefer it served warm. It was amazing! As for the fish side, the prawn green curry is light tasting and flavorful! I could eat it every day. The wait staff is accommodating and friendly. The wine menu is extensive and reasonable. Deanes set the bar for the rest of the trip! I saw that Ginger's was rated #4 in the city. I found it to be good, but lacking the same pizazz in flavor as Deanes. I had no desire to go back there even though it served a very nice menu.

Went to Deans Meat Locker on 4th July and was absolutely fantastic. It was our first visit to anelgast and to Deans and certainly won't be our last to either. Decor, food and service was outstanding. I would have given them a 5 star rating but the neautifully matured a team I had was just a tad over salted. I personally use no salt apart from in cooking, but they obviously use rock or sea salt in the kitchen for seasoning the meat, (which you can see them doing in the 'meat locker' on view, but it was just a bit heavy handed for me. Apart from that, perfect. Already looking forward to my next visit to Belfast and Deans.

We viewed the menu and decided to go in even tho prices seemed a bit steep. The restaurant itself was lovely and beautifully decorated. The head waiter was pleasant and attentive until we said that we we not going to order wine. He rephrased our answer back to us in an incredulous tone and was clearly not pleased. We ordered a bottle of sparkling water instead. Later, he asked if we would like another and my husband very clearly answered no, however he sent a waitress to the table with another bottle. My husband said that we had not ordered it and the waitress returned it to the HW explaining that we had not ordered it. My husband reported that his 18GBP salmon was good as was his small side of 5 GBP buttered spinach. My 26GBP Delmonico rib eye steak was very disappointing. It was about 1 cm thick and reported to be 350 grams, however perhaps before cooking and not including fat and gristle. This was not a beautiful steak. Along with my 7 GBP asparagus salad and 4.50 GBP for the water it was an expensive, yet disappointing evening with regard to both food and customer service.

Dinner at Love Fish at Deanes was, I have to say, a treat. It's not often one looks at a menu and could happily work one's way through the lot. The unusual combinations, small treats and inventive cooking were a delight. Food was passed back and forth across the table between the four of us - "you have to try this". Service was attentive and good. If I had any complaint it was that it would have been good to see a couple more traditionally cooked fish dishes amongst the main courses - but I'm quibbling. I had dined at Deanes at Queens befoe, it is without doubt the best meal I have had in Belfast. But this down market night out needs to be avoided at all costs.1. You get absolutely no choice over the starter, and are not even told beforehand what it will be. I hate strong smelling fish dishes and the smoked haddock fishcakes would have made me sick.2. You get no choice of cocktail. Does everyone like a Cosmopolitan ? 3. Cocktail masterclass - only 6 people were allowed to have a go.4. You goto Deanes, which has a strong influence of steaks and they serve you up with a small piece of CHICKEN !!!! Again, with a creamy mushroom sauce that not everyone will like, fortunately we could get the sauce changed.5. Dessert was ok-ish.6. Best course was the cheeseboard at Deanes Bistro.7. This is without mentioning the tourist bus that takes you around the places. The great meal I had at Deanes at Queens cost us about the same as the tickets for this tacky gimmick. And we must have spent another 30-40 each on extra drinks around restaurants. This is nothing but a stupid money spinner for Deanes, when infact it could easily damage their reputation. There are plenty of other good restaurants around Belfast, so I don't need to give Deanes anymore business.

Had a meal in Deanes tonight expecting both the service and food to be amazing.. how wrong we were!Food was ridiculously overpriced and lacked substance, portions were tiny and sauces were really quite strange. Desserts were nice, the only saving grace of the meal.... however the service was absolutely disgusting. Nobody offered to take our coats, cutlery change was incorrect, breads weren't explained, we had to top up our own wine, nobody ever checked back to see if everything was OK or how the meal was.. plus the restaurant was absolutely dead! there were two tables in! Ridiculous level of service for a restaurant of this calibre... one of Belfast's supposed 'best restaurants' .. I can think of much better places to eat at a fraction of the price of Deanes. The staff looked as though they couldn't be bothered to do anything and had to be prompted to bring things. All the staff except for one had zero personality or people skills. We asked for the bill and... you guessed it... a 10% service change was added to the bill! WHAT SERVICE?!In all, a poor experience. Don't waste your money!

We reserved for 2 @ 7.30 on a Friday for dinner in the Meat Locker. Having booked a month in advance they rang me to confirm the night before. The atmosphere is relaxed with modern music playing in the background. The grill behind the glass is a good touch as you can see your food (if you choose the steak) being cooked. The small carafe of red wine was enough with the meal. We had the mushroom risotto and ham hock rillette for starters, the rump and the sirloin (with obligatory champ) for main, apple crumble sundae (yes, sundae) and bakewell tart with plum compote for dessert. ALL of the dishes were fantastic and the service was just slow enough - even down to filling the wine and water glasses as and when. The restaurant was busy without being cramped. They do have a 10% service charge, which negates the question of what to leave - assuming that you're happy with the service! I would recommend the Meat Locker to anyone that loves steak.Check out the website for all of the options, some restaurants are in the same building/next door to each other.

My hubbies surf and turf got a big thumbs up but at the price of it it would need to be something very special indeed. So good bits and a few disappointments considering the price tag.

We dropped in before going to a show without reservations and the staff were helpful, friendly and seated us immediately. We chose from the pre-theatre menu. The portions are very small - I asked for the scallops but there was only one on the plate (I don't think 2 would have broke the bank). The goats cheese starter was a little bigger. The mains were only a little bigger and we had ordered a few sides that bulked it up to sufficiently fill us. We had a beer and glass of wine with it (no desserts) and it cost £55 (tip was included in the bill). The service, food and atmosphere was excellent - the only downside is the size of the portions.

As we arrived in the door, we had to wait several minutes before a member of the staff came over to us to seat us. As it was Christmas time and busy I completely understood and did not mind. We were told a table would be available shortly and were welcomed to have drinks at the bar whilst we waited, which we did. When at the bar, I noticed several tables were in fact empty and I wondered why they didn't seat us at one of these (maybe to get more money out of us by having us buy drinks). Again, this didn't really bother me at the time. A while later, we were told a table was ready and we were seated. We were both famished at this stage. My girlfriend ordered the Risotto, which was a starter, but asked for it as a main course, which we were told was no problem. I ordered the turkey. When the food arrived, I was shocked to see that the risotto was in fact the starter size (the people at the table beside us had it for their starter and it was the same). And as for my turkey, well, I've received free samples in supermarkets that were larger than the morsels that were dished up to me. Three pieces of turkey the size of my thumb (I measured) at a whopping £17?! And there was no vegetables or anything else on the plate. I attempted to get the waitresses attention but failed. They never came near our table. I was so hungry I ate it anyway. When the plates were being cleared I was eventually asked if everything was OK, to which I politely replied that I was disappointed with the portion sizes. Her response was "OK". I asked if there was a possibility we may have received starters by mistake. Her response, a stern "No". She grabbed the plates and was gone. There was no "sorry about that", no "I'll get the manager", no "let-me-try-and-rectify-this-situation" whatsoever. As someone who worked in the service industry for several years, I know the worst possible thing you can do is ignore a complaint and act as if nothing happened. Myself and my girlfriend were highly disappointed with the restaurant. The meals were ridiculously overpriced and we both left starving. My advice is avoid.

Expensive, but worth the money. Nice cuts of meat, delicious and fresh sides, comfortable seating and friendly staff. No vegetarian options regrettably.

Got a last minute reservation for Deanes Meat Locker from the very helpful staff member after reading fantastic reviews online. We were warmly welcomed and seated in the window of the atmospheric relaxed restaurant. Fantastic menu with a range of choices, all sounding delicious. Mostly classic options with a few twists for the more adventurous. The steak was devine, probably one of the best I've ever tasted and cooked to perfection. The chicken was delicious also, cooked in a mushroom and panchetta sauce. The chips are cooked to accompany the steak with a distinct flavour and were super tasty. Dessert was a hot chocolate mint pudding, and even though I don't normally like dessert I truly enjoyed every bite. Fantastic wine selection from affordale prices. We had the prividge of a jazz singer for New Years eve which really made it such an enjoyable dining experience. Would highly reccomend Deanes .

For all the hype, this place is very poor, both food and service. For the service we had about 5 different waiters, and none were attentive. In a restaurant of this so called quality you should have a waiter and a sommelier. A waiter should watch so he can refill your wine glass or water. We had to help ourselves. When we ordered more coffee the milk was not put in front of us we had to stretch. I had the rib eye steak which was tough and full of fat. I could only eat about a third of it. When I told one of the waiters, he offered us free coffee!I know the remarks about the service might appear minor, but for a good restaurant good service makes a meal and an evening. There is, however, no excuse for poor quality meat which can't be eaten.Don't think I will eat there again as you can get a much better meal with good service in Belfast at half the price.

The food here is very nice but the portions are tiny! It really is poor value for money. The pre-theatre doesn't even represent a significant saving on the À la carte when you look at the various combinations of the limited options and lack of sides.I would give Deane's a wide berth simply on the basis of value for money. There are cheaper options with equally as good food available. Also the 10% gratuity added to the menu is a bit of a joke... Our service was good when the place was empty but once it started to fill up it became non-existent. If we hadn't been in a hurry would have asked for it to have been removed.

We had the pre-theatre meal last night at The Meat Locker and the food was excellent!! However when the bill came there was a 10% gratuity already added. I normally leave a tip but I decide when I give it!! When it's already included in the bill, it's not a tip, it's the price of the food!! When we brought it to the attention of staff we were sniffily told it was stated on the menu. We'll not be back as there are plenty of other good restaurants in Belfast, probably with better service too.

I had a craving for steak, so I thought the best place to go would be a restaurant called the meat locker! Unfortunately my experience was quite disappointing. While the maitre d' was very friendly, took our coats and gave us a lovely table in a beautifully-decorated room with relaxing music on in the background, our waitress was less pleasant. We had a lovely bottle of wine. Starters were tasty but very small portion sizes - had about 4 bites before I finished my mushroom risotto. The mains came out and I was so excited for my steak, especially after being able to watch the chefs season and cook it though a viewing window to the meat locker. Had one bite and I knew it was overcooked. Just to be safe I cut it in half - not a hint of pink to be seen. I awkwardly asked for it to be sent back, and the waitress made the situation even more awkward by seeming surprised, offended and unapologetic. However, when the 2nd steak came out it was cooked to perfection, with beautiful sides of chips and roast veg - mouthwatering parsnips! I obviously had dessert .They were kind enough to not charge me for it due to the steak incident. I very much enjoyed the chocolate tart. However the ice cream is came with was tasteless, and my friend's Bakewell tart was poor. Then we got the bill and were amazed at the price - I was very grateful to not have to pay for dessert! They automatically include a 10% service charge which I hate, especially when they don't deserve it! Overall, good steak when they get it right, but overpriced food and tiny portion sizes.

Had a 6pm booking on Saturday 6/12/14 in the recently launched Meat Locker at Deane's and was pleasantly surprised. We were greeted by pleasant staff and immediately shown to our seats, supplied with menus and offered drinks. The white wine we ordered was not available but we were offered a fine substitute. We ordered steaks a fillet and a sirloin with beef dripping chips, mushrooms and onion rings. We didn't have to wait too long and the steaks arrived cooked to perfection. Fine food in a relaxing atmosphere but just slightly over priced. Will certainly return

On a business trip to Belfast i needed a restaurant stylish enough to take a business 'client' but not so heavy on price it affected my bottom line too much!I found Deane's Fish restaurant (next door to the 'sister' meat restaurant) and was pleasantly surprised. The service was friendly and attentive the environment airy and stylish. The food was spot on for a casual lunch. My client the MD of a local Belfast insurance co (Rollins Insurance) had fish and chips (not just any chips but fried in beef fat!) as did my wife. i had the fish cakes with poached egg which was light and tasty and his secretary had Prawn Curry which she seemed to be very impressed with (she was a vegetarian- although strangely she also had the chips fried in beef fat and loved them!)It was washed down with Deanes own beer on draft and the ladies had a Sauvignon. We shared cheesecake for dessert and finished with Coffees for just over £100 which i thought reasonable. Then it was off to see the Titanic museum...an enjoyable trip and a restaurant worth visiting again!

We had an average meal in the meat locker last night. The service was very slow and the food was just ok. When we asked for the bill I gave the waiter my bank card and a £80 voucher that we had. The waiter said he would have to check the vi her to make sure it was ok. I was very embarrassed as we were paying for my friend, as a birthday present. When he did come back some ten minutes later he said that seems to be ok can I have your debit card. 10% gratuity automatically put on your bill is a great presumptions. I eat out a lot and I will not be back at Deans. I decide how much of a tip I leave!

Following a last minute day-trip from Dublin to Belfast yesterday (17 November 2014), for both business and pleasure, we decided to eat in Deanes (MeatLocker Brasserie) on Howard Street in the City Centre before returning to Dublin. As it was early (about 6pm) the restaurant was quiet and we were offered a choice of tables without any delays. We were offered both the Pre-Theatre and the Á La Carte menus; choosing from the pre-theatre. For starters (at GBP4 each) we chose one portion of Pan-Fried Scallop, Curry, Cauliflower with Aromats; and one portion of Whipped Goats Cheese & Poached Pear Salad with Chicory and Caramlisied Walnuts. The Goats Cheese was by far the better of these two dishes; that said, the Scallop was delicious but entirely disappointing as there was ONE medium sized scallop in my plate! This offering was more like an amuse-bouche than a starter. Our server ask how our dishes were and I commented that my Scallop was 'delicious but disappointing' to which she got quite defensive informing me that 'it say scallop (singular) on the menu'; I said I understoond that but from a presentation and value point of view it looked like I was getting very poor value for money (GBP4 for one scallop). For main courses (GBP10 each) we ordered one portion of Roast Lamb Shank, Savoy Cabbage, Carrot and Leek; and one portion of Porcini Braised Chicken, Pancetta with Spinach. We also ordered a side of Beef Dripping Chips (GBP4). Both dishes were very rich and creamy. Again, I found my lamb delicious but disappointing - I was expecting it to be served 'on the bone' but it was served in a 'pulled' fashion which seems to be a popular trend at the moment. For desserts (also GBP4 each) we chose one portion of warm Bakewell Tart with Mascarpone and Plum; and one portion of warm Chocolate Brownie with Cherries and Vanilla Ice-cream. We also ordered a half-carafe of Malbec (DEANES MEAT LOCKER 2013 Tupungato Argentina) which cost GBP20. Our bill came to GBP60 and an automatic 10% service charge was added to our account bringing our total spend to GBP66.Overall our visit to Deanes (MeatLocker Brasserie) on Howard Street in Belfast was average. some of the food was delicious; but overall the experience was disappointing...

First time I'd visited the Meat Locker after having been to the original Deanes many many moons ago. This was a fantastic meal. We went on a Monday lunch for a birthday celebration and it was pretty quiet as you'd expect but it meant we had first rate service from staff who were really friendly and happy to give advice on the food. We could barely decide what to choose as the whole menu was mouth watering but opted for tempura oysters and crab claws to start. Good choices! Best crab claws in ages and the reputation batter was so light. For main we shared 1100g of prime rib. I couldn't recommend this enough. OMG. If you like meat you will like this. Comes with chips and a tomato with a sliver of garlic thrown on top for good measure but the meat is what it's all about. After we had a few espresso martinis - very very good!- and we stayed till around 5. The staff didn't rush us at any point and it was a really lovely afternoon. In fact - we re going back with my steak loving Dad in a few weeks!

Deanes Meat Restaurant - Four of us visited on Saturday 25th October to celebrate my wife's birthday. We had booked for 8.30. We were greeted and seated promptly. We ordered drinks and they took a while to come. We ordered dinner and waited and waited. After about 35 minutes I asked where the food was and we were told that as some of our meat was medium to well done we had to wait longer! After another ten minutes the food arrived - so that's about 40 to 45 minutes. The meat was really good - unfortunately the outside was burnt so badly it had to be cut off. I could see the grill and I could not understand that the chef was always cooking the meat in flames and heat - surely this must burn the meat. Three of us had to leave a quantity of the quite small portions of meat. In fairness the manager offered us complimentary dessert and we could have had a drink from the bar but at £178 for four mains and wine I expect better of an (ex) Michelin standard restaurant.

Had a set lunch option at The Circle at Deanes, which is upstairs from the main restaurant. Food was excellent particularly the homemade breads and my veggie option of a mushroom risotto was amongst the tastiest I have had - and you do get a lot of risottos as a veggie. Definitely would recommend. The surroundings themselves in The Circle had an additional appeal to me as of my interest in the 1920s and the décor suiting that. Was an amazing place for a formal lunch and guests with me were particularly pleased with their food, so all in all a great place to showcase NI to visitors as was the case last week.

Having tried and tested some of the best steak house in London, had to say the steak at Deane is very much up there. Meat is quality and perfectly cook as you would expect from a restaurant like Deane. Reason I give 4* instead of 5 is that other than steak, other dishes is very much average, and rather expensive for the price you pay for. The desert in particular is disappointing. The atmosphere is rather strange too, the music seem to be rather rocky, clubby type which doesnt seem to fit in well in the theme of the restaurant. I have been there 3 times for the steaks and twice in Love Fish , four out of five times they had those type of music.

Started with one of the smoothest local bottled ale and then had sea bass with crushed potatoes capers and veg. The sea bass was cooked to perfection, firm veg and the flavours worked superbly well together. Staff were very friendly and this place has a great atmosphere so even as a single business traveler I was comfortable here and the food is just outstanding so compliments to the chef . But as soon as we sat down we looked at the menu and thought that we had to try the scollops started too. They were fab. We then ordered the 10.00 lunch which all 4 of us choose braised beef in a w8ne sauce with whipped potato which was also fab.so then 3 of us had a dessert and the other one a dessert wine. Total bill for the four of us including a bottle of good wine and a couple bottles of water. Came to £160 for the 4 of us. So our 10 pound per head lunch meal turned into 40 per head and in our opinion worth every penny. We all loved it and should we get the chance to return to belfast for another visit.
