Enjoyed a great cup of coffee over business. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Had a great range of food on offer too (cakes rolls etc) but had recently eaten so didn’t try any of these this time, though a relative assures me that they’re delicious. Rustic charm may not appeal to everyone, but i liked it, and the seating was perfectly comfortable. Will be returning soon!

Coffee is nice and staff are attentive however it's clear the owner(s) of this cafe have a few gripes. For example, no dogs allowed and no WiFi. As more cafes are becoming more welcoming to pets and work from home people who would appreciate wifi and plug sockets, this cafe seems to be digging its heels in and doing the opposite. Why? Who knows

Tasteless 'coffee' which was just milk and froth, only outdone by terrible customer service and an awful lemon slice that was inedible. The blonde coffee maker had clearly got out of bed on the wrong side and bought her problems to work - abusing us publicly at our table because we asked why the coffee wasn't served in a proper cup or mug. 'Don't look at me like that!, if you don't like it, I'll just refund you!' is apparently an adequate response to a customer enquiry. In a high street with lots of choice of friendly cafes, don't waste your money on a place that make their customers feel so unwelcome, they can't even back it up with a good coffee and a decent piece of cake. Terrible!

One of the many lovely things about Rochester is that it’s full of brilliant independent businesses, and this is one of them. I come here often with my grandchildren. Staff are always kind and friendly; coffee and cakes are great; and the bill significantly less than you’d pay at that multinational chain down the road.

Nice enough place with good coffee in great location. Visiting on a damp December day the atmosphere was a bit barren and not cosy at all. The seating situation is a mixture of office type chairs, or childrens school chairs, not large enough for most behinds! Could do with a soft furnishings update.

Stumbled upon this gem trying to find a coffee shop that wasn't a boring chain/identikit franchise. This is so quirky and cute and the coffee so good (and scrummy sweets and pastries) that we made a beeline for it the second time we came to Rochester.

There were 3 gluten/dairy-free bakes to choose from. It isn't often I can find something yummy to eat! They had a lemon drizzle slice, a chocolate and cherry traybake and a raspberry flapjack. I brought two, ate one and then went back for two more for the next day! Two sweet treats and an iced oat hot chocolate for £6.30, brilliant! The staff were so friendly too and helpful as usual. Thank you Deaf Cat!

If you go to Rochester and you want to find good customer service cafe dont go here. Firstly to get in is like Fort Knox, when you do finally make it to a seat you order pay and wait only to be given your drink in a plastic cup. As we all no any drink in a plastic cup alters the taste badly. We did ask for a china cup but was given the now over used excuse its because of covid. Now there is no law that the cafes have to use a plastic cup, so the real reason must be its cheaper than paying some one to was the china cups, but this is not reflected in the price of the drink, which is high If we had know before we went in we would have gone to one of many other cafes in Rochester which we no have china cups. They should have a warning sign up in big letters out side so customers have the choice. We will not return even if they are more honest.

When you know your trips to a coffee shop are about to drastically fall you automatically head to what you know. Deaf Cat is a gem. I enjoy the coffee but my trip today was enhanced by a fun conversation with the young assistant. Even after hearing about my love for the stolen espresso cup he still serves mine in a china receptacle as opposed to the paper one I was sure I'd get. A joy, friendly and prompt. Still, the coffee is of the highest quality and today I sit outside with the views you can see below. Many thanks, I will be back, as long as the world doesn't end.

Our first visit to Rochester and was recommended to call in at The Deaf Cat for coffee and cake. We were not disappointed. After a warm welcome from Ben and a request to use the hand sanitiser, we took our seats. It was table service and we ordered 2 mochas. My wife fancied a chocolate brownie and it was a slice of Victoria sponge for me. The mochas were absolutely top drawer, hot, chocolaty but not too sweet - a great blend of ingredients. The choc brownie was loaded with scrumptiousness and the sponge appeared as 2 slices. 'I cut the cake but thought you'd like a bigger piece so here it is.' It's a small place far nicer than Costa and the like. The Coffee pots on the wall were particularly eye-catching and colourful. Ben and his assistant were really courteous and attentive without being intrusive. We really enjoyed our 11 am top up and have no hesitation in recommending The Deaf Cat. Thank you Ben. It was fun and we loved it.

The Deaf Cat is small and has friendly staff. My lunch was a toasted cheese and onion sandwich (tasty, but apparently mass-produced, a millionaire shortbread (excellent, clearly locally baked) and - new to me - gingerbread-flavoured Italian soda, which was memorably delicious. Service was quick, and the credit card machine worked after a pause. My one criticism: the WiFi was not functioning. I would certainly go again.

This place is just amazing. The coffee is great and the service cannot be faulted. We enjoyed visiting before lockdown but we’ve been so impressed since. They have been appropriately cautious and creative to enable us to enjoy their food and beverages while keeping everyone safe. The use of the windows to take and distribute orders has worked really well and the good weather and nearby parking has made this our ‘go to’ for coffee during lockdown. They were one of the first to open and visiting has become a real treat. We’re all in favour of supporting small independent business and this is one of our favourites. Thank you all!

A little bit quirky, which we liked, but staff were very rude. At 16:55 a chap with scruffy hair shouted at us from the counter that we had 5 minutes because they were closing. This was fine as we had finished and one of us was queuing to use the toilet. Again, at 16:57 we were told by a female member of staff that we had to leave because they were closed. We couldn't wait to revisit after the amazing coffee we had on the first occasion, unfortunately the second visit was appalling. Sunday the 13th January 2019 the coffee smell invited us in - decent size muffins (at ridiculous prices) I'm not crazy about coffee but I could have sat there all day and drank their coffee. The second time, 20th January 2019. There wasn't even a hint that this was same place we revisited. No hint of coffee from the outside! The coffee tasted like instant coffee. I was shocked to say the least. The muffins were tiny, so decided to try a toasted panini, what a mistake. Only the edge of the panini had any filling (the display side in the packet) it was dry and tasteless! We certainly won't be wasting our Sunday and money going there again. One thing about the restaurant and coffee shop trade is that you have to be consistent otherwise the public speak with their feet, which we've done!

The Deaf Cat café is an unpretentious, medium sized café located in Rochester’s High Street serving coffees, teas and a selection of sandwiches, cakes etc. Staff are welcoming, and service was good. The café seemed clean (including the toilets) and had a relaxed atmosphere. Prices are broadly average for this type of establishment as was the food. I would actually rate it as ‘quite good’ but Trip Advisor doesn’t have this category, I decided to upgrade it to very good on account of its: excellent location, its independent status, plus I liked its novel name - apparently Charles Dickens had a deaf cat so it’s quite appropriate for a Rochester café.

Everyone else in the cafe had been waiting a long time too and some decided to leave. When we spoke to the manageress she said if we wanted quicker service we needed to go to Costa, they were an independent chain and could not be any quicker. We did not think this was a logical argument as there were several staff working there and most people were ordering drinks and light snacks such as cakes which do not take long to prepare and serve. Several minutes later the hot chocolate arrived and the manageress said me friend was being 'very rude' when all she had done was to ask why things were talking so long. I have never heard a staff member speaking to a customer in that way.

Just popped in for a coffee and snack. The staff were friendly and although there were some problems with the order, the staff seemed genuinely apologetic. Nice location, and a place that I would revisit without hesitation.

Nipped in there for a Strawberry Frapp. The place wasn't all that busy and was clean and tidy. The young lady who made my drink was polite and lovely to chat to. I think her name was Zoe. Very well presented and my drink was spot on. Its always nice for staff to chat with customers when they are not busy and Zoe did exactly that. Made the customer service she provided very special. Now for the negative. The young man on the till. I found his attitude to be quite intolerable. All he wanted to do was get me through the till as quickly as possible so he could answer the ringing phone. Wasn't polite at all. I got the impression he may have been the manager of the store. I got the impression that he much prefer to go off and complete other tasks, rather that serve customers.

Date night for food and cinema, followed by a trip to Creams for dessert. I'd never been before, but this won't be my last visit! I had the Mint doughnut with a scoop of Mint Choc Chip ice cream on the side and my partner had the Kinder Bueno crepe. Both well presented and tasted even better. If you'd never been before like me, go as soon as you can!

Its basically a young persons Bistroteque but Sunday Lunchtime is given over to the older fans with the revived popularJazz venue transfered from the Eagle. Jazz has been thriving in Rochester for over 50 years with headline players sourced from Ronnie Scotts amongst others. It fits surprisingly well with great support from the owner. Best of all is a wide selection of classic bottled real ales all at reasonable prices. IMHO a great live music. 1-4 pm Sundays - BTW no food Sundays

Perfect Poached Eggs. We both had Eggs Benedictine which was nicely presented + had lovely gammon ham. It was very tasty + we would definitely eat here again. Kirsty behind the bar was very welcoming. She was a very capable barmaid, she was the only 1 serving but was calm + not flustered when there was a queue. I had to report 1 of the toilets being in a terrible mess. Kirsty apologised + said she would address the matter immediately + that she was sorry I had to see that. Previously if I have ever had to report a toilet needs attention in other shops or stores it is brushed off + hardly acknowledged. So well done Kirsty, the best service I have received in a very long time…..
