Dead Wax Social in Brighton and Hove

The 'new' Deadwax is a slap in the face to any regular, and a disgrace to what it once was. What was a hub for the alternative, is now a soulless beige copy-paste bar. Why was it refurbed? Who knows. New management could've opened a bar anywhere, but decided that an already flourishing bar with its own scene was the best thing to take over. They did the same thing they did to White Rabbit- What a shame.

I Love what has been done with Dead Wax ! So lovely and welcoming , still dark and sexy but with lovely welcoming staff and nice vibes! We came here for our Christmas party and all the staff were so lovely, really looked after us all. The cocktails were delish! Probably had about 8 of them ! MC Cashback was on the decks too which was an extra treat! Deffo going to be coming back here more often now ❤️

Greeted by the most beautiful and kind barstaff at the door, the vibes were incredible. Loads of vinyl around the place. Used to come in before the refurb for the eclectic vibe and it’s definitely kept that but added warmth ,better service and cozy vibes. It’s Homely but super great night out late night, brilliant djs, coffee and staff- change is always welcome and what Brighton needed

I had my birthday booked in the back area, the girls ordered us amazing pizza in and made it a real party for us! They looked after us all evening even though they were super busy! Thanks so much, we will be back asap!

We visited here on a day trip from London for Christmas. What an amazing venue, it looks great and the staff play their own vinyl on the front bar, Ellie was a great host and we didn’t end up going anywhere else! See you at Pride!

Really great visit post referb! It’s really gone back to its roots of working along side record stores and music labels to put nights on! It’s still Vinyl lead and the staff are amazing. I will definitely be back soon! x

Well it used to be a good place with alternative music, but it has now become a soulless place like so many. This town didn't need another boring lounge bar!

Omg it looks so much better. The new refurbishment makes Brighton look like is picking up with London.

Deadwax is now another sad example of a local gem being hollowed out by new management being parachuted in, clearly without brief of what actually made people come here in the first place. This used to be a rare proper dive bar—gritty, loud, and unapologetically rough around the edges. Now, thanks to middle-managers chasing trendiness, it’s been stripped of all personality and heart. The regulars? Gone. The charm? Obliterated. What’s left is a soulless padded cell catering to nobody and designed by people who think character is something you can buy. New Management clearly have no idea what made the place great, and frankly, they don’t seem to care about anything other than using the site and its socials as a means to elevate themselves to some kind of quasi-gentri-influencer. A sad cultural lobotomy in the name of profit. Avoid.

Have been going to Dead Wax for nearly ten years now. Absolutely no idea what they were thinking with this refurb. Completely sucked the life out of it, same thing that happened to the white rabbit. Now just feels like a lifeless gastro pub. Depressing to see what is happening to our treasured locals.

Very groovy atmosphere and great selection of drinks (and cocktails)! Staff are really fun, particularly the manager Ama who is the coolest person ever and makes a banging amaretto sour

I’ve been a Brighton pub goer for many years. The Deadwax has been a staple in the community for a long time. I found myself not visiting it as much these days due to past experiences. But! Since the new management has taken over, the new boss Ama. The place has had a new breath of life breathed into it. The attention to care and what she mentioned she had planned for the future, these qualities are hard to find these days. Deadwax is a great venue to go to, whether you are hungry or just want a drink with a great chat with staff. Would always recommend to friends and family alike.

Dead wax is such a vibe. The staff were really lovely. The drinks were certifiably stupendous! The food was delicious. Last but definitely not least, Ama who served us was amazing and made our whole experience the best!

Can’t wait for the refurb, I know this place is going to be amazing and Ama the new manager will do great things with it #watchthisspace

Quality place - quirky and a tonne of character. Always pop in when I’m down in Brighton, good selection of beers, staff top notch and can’t knock the vibe.

Such a great little spot the beer was abit dodgy from taste due to lines not being cleaned when I bought the issue up with the bar man he didn’t offer any alternatives.

I gave this a one-star rating in total because that place is gross. The floors are sticky where it's like walking on glue. I wonder when the floors where last cleaned. The owner can't be bothered with hygiene. This is where nobody cleans-up after people spilling their drinks and the stick floors can cause fruit flies.

Found this place by accident late on a Sunday evening. Absolutely top place! Great tunes. Loved it!

Really love this place. It's a shame the younger bouncer on a Friday is very creepy and makes a lot of the girls feel uncomfortable.

Well what a day and a momentum of occasion it twas, been here once before, sat on my own staring into space, in my adolescent loneliness envying the people dancing, wishing i knew the souls at the location of which i could jiggle my booty around and with in the commune! But alas cold times stand still and the sun that is adolescent opportunity cannot stand still amongst these moments also! For what is the love we share of ourselves if not a reflection of buying the overpriced bevvies from the man while dancing on the trenches of the sticky floor, oh what a night! I can only wish chet bakery was alive to see this boogie town but alas he is died :( 4/5 (not an Arctic monkeys reference but i feel like alexis turntable was writing that album about this very place) i would like to ask the owner one innocent but well founded question, my queefer why do i have to beckon £10 of my sacred dolleridoos for uno pint of Guinness, a scandal! The British public is broke my fella, reduce the price and rebel against the system!! ! !!!

What a great find. Rock music. Drinks specials. Great service. Friday was a pretty good mix of people. We were prepared to stay there all night, but I was showing a friend of mine around Brighton, so sadly we moved on to the next place.

Great atmosphere, the decor was stunning and they played music. The vegan Diavolo pizza was lovely (and a great price on the 2 for 1 deal), and the service was high quality too. Would definitely recommend.

Vibe’s just right. Can recommend the IPAs.

Would like to visit later in the evening next time. We were there 9.00 - 10.30. Just started to come alive after 10.15pm

Great atmosphere and delicious (if ginormous!) pizza

After 10 years of living in Brighton I know all the 'laines pubs'. Their craft ales are utter *****, they haven't changed for all the time I've been here. Ripper, Source, sonar all taste wack. The staff were atrocious, arrogant and rude, for someone who has worked in hospitality sort your attitude out. The toilets smelt like a sewer, close to £7 for a pint of piss....takes the piss. Before you slam my post, I live close to two well established laine brew co pubs and have spent literally £100s in them. They both are located either side of London rd station and host the largest gardens in Brighton. Check out unbarred, Brighton bier, Gun brewery. They are all small batch unlike this conglomerate. I'll end on this... They change £6.80 for a pint of Guinness and it's terrible, watery and wack.

Charley is the most beautiful human I have ever met. Fantastic! Recommended wonderful drinks and was so lovely! Will be back but only if Charley gets a raise!!!

Not my usual bar, but what a quirky little experience! Love how interesting the staff are, throwing the music back to the 80’s and 90’s. I imagine this bar is a staple part of a Brightons vibrant scene. A chill spot to make you feel young again, takes me back to my wild days.

Great pizza, good beer, awesome vibes (helps that the tunes aren't super loud so you can still chat while enjoying the music).

Bar staff were horrible, 2 girls chatting to themselves and making fun of customers. Ordered 2 drinks and they were plonked in front of me, took a sip of one and was shouted at by the bartender for drinking someone else’s drink! She then said I’d have to pay for the 2 extra drinks for having a sip of it accidentally. Refused to pay and explained it was an honest mistake and she ran out to security and got us kicked out! Horrible woman that needs to be escorted back to plastic surgery!

I used to have this place as my recomendad place in Brighton, but tonight I visited in a Wednesday and was made to feel very unwelcome by the bar girl. She looked at me like I ordered a child, won’t recommend going forward and removed from the list

The DJ was popping some of the most exotic sounds. The atmosphere is chilled. Great place.

Only 1 star because of bouncer . Writing this after time and time again I’ve tried to go and had various friends refused entry for being “intoxicated” not even “too” intoxicated, just drunk. Most of the time they’d only had 1/2 pints at the pub. Always so he same bouncer. Had the same bouncer be very rude for other miscommunications and refused to explain why. Just always so rude and u reasonable. Bar staff usually lovely. A shame about that one bouncer (you know who).

Drinks rly expensive, bartender was not happy LMAO it was a little intimidating. The place was also full of flies.. like a lot of flies. Cool atmosphere though, good music. Great for a drink or two and a gig.

Apart from location is easy to find, I can't really give anymore star to this place. The drinks is on the high side at best, my bottle of 12% wine cost £20+. I ordered 5no pizzas, 3 of them were burnt either on the crust or on the bottom, I meant charred. My pizza was a special order as I cannot eat tomato, so I order a none tomato double cheese spicy sausage pizza, and first, I got a pepperoni pizza with tomato base, which I have sent back, the next one come without tomato, but with pepperoni which is not what I thought of spicy sausage means, but too embarrassed to send it back, I kept it and my colleagues ate it but they already have their own pizzas so we left half of it when we left. The place is not very clean, with pizza crusts left on the floor from previous visitors. All is all, not a great experience. I am a traveller and this place was recommended to me so I have to go back and tell the person who recommended it to rethink when she recommend this place again.

Disappointing at best :/ The vibe is great and the staff are super friendly and laid-back which I like in a bar but the food ruined it completely. Pizza completely burnt (literally black) with watery toppings and slow inconsistent service. Pretty sure I was overcharged but couldn't eat half the food anyway. They change you before so not like you can not pay for it. Love a laid-back atmosphere as long as it doesn't sacrifice the quality of the food but I felt like my flatmate made me a 2am pizza after a night out

Bouncer was so unprofessional and rude

Worst Management! So uncaring and no protocol for theft! Had my expensive jacket stolen and was practically ignored. This place is full of rampant theft and management who comply with theft.

Good atmosphere here, would definitely recommend, place is quite small but nice with vinyl everywhere and I like the rooms and layout of the place. One of my fav bars to go to on the evenings, always seems to be chill nice people there, would say most people here are 20-40yr and staff are very friendly. (Rooms in daytime could be a bit lighter)

Nice choice of drinks. Menu looked good but we had dinner planned elsewhere. Something different and a great vibe to relax in with a beer. Great pizzas too!

A bit hit or miss, we had a fab evening a few months ago, went back because of it and it was 🤷🏼‍♀️, really unorganized on the bar, food took ages....not sure we'll go back a third time

Good meeting place, friendly,helpful staff reasonable prices, good music until dj started then a bit too modern.

Nice bar but I’ve never experienced service like it from the fella with the long hair. The bar was 3 deep and he was casually chatting to his mate, looking at this phone without a care in the world. No please or thank you, in fact no words or friendly gestures at all, just pointing. Several customers gave up and left to go elsewhere. It took us 20 minutes to get served, then the serving took a further 5 minutes because he had to stop again to chat to his mate. Mind blowing stuff.

Rolled the dice and went in for a pint and was not disappointed. Super chilled place that oozes cool. The walls are covered in LPs that the staff are cool to play. There is a pizza place at the back and it converts into a late night (3am) disco if you have the stamina.

I remember coming here since 2019 and it has picked up in popularity. You'll be lucky to get in on the weekend without queuing... A testament to how fun this place is. Really friendly bar staff and good choice of beers. They also have a massive back room where you can show-off your dance moves. Would highly recommend visiting if you are having a night out in Brighton

Always loved Dead Wax but had a really bad experience there recently. My card was declined twice before it went through on a different card. Having checked my bank statement, the amount charged the first time was £25.20 (which sounds about right), but the second time it had been increased to £32.25. When the payment went through the third time, the price was £35. This was for the exact same order. The guy who did it was super hostile the whole time which makes me think it wasn’t a mistake. Not great.

They some times let you pick the music.

Lovely late night hole in the wall, open late, accomodating bar staff, nice selection of spirit and mixers, even a pack of cards on request, a good place to be when cocktail bars like Bohemia are done for the night!

The best, played some retro games, talked some mega music and wandered off. Be back later in the evening 🤘

Great place to go late at night. We turned up about 1am on a Friday night and it was still alive and kicking. Reasonably priced drinks (for Brighton). Had a great time

I went with a friend to Dead Wax yesterday and the whole experience was far from disappointing. The service was amazing and the staff were so friendly and funny too. The pizzas were made fresh and quick, not to mention that it was the best pizza we’d probably ever had. The music was great, and the venue is so cool. Great for how much you pay (which is nothing more than £13) Already have made plans to go back again in the future!!

Absolutely brilliant bar great drinks and staff the girl with the blue hair behind the bar was lovely and so friendly. Also the pizzas were top and the same for the staff making the pizzas. Definitely would reccomended if visiting Brighton!
