Picturesque 100% Scottish pub, located in the famous Royal Mille, its decoration will not leave you indifferent, its decoration is amazing, a very good place to taste its traditional Scottish cuisine dishes. The Haggis is highly recommended, accompanied by its mashed potatoes, turnip and cabbage. Contained prices for how expensive everything is in Edinburgh and for the location where they are. I think the girl who helped us was Spanish, very friendly and gave us very good advice. We will definitely return next time we visit Edinburgh.

Sadly disappointed & I say this as a repeat customer who brings visiting tourist friends/colleagues here due to the usually consistent quality & interesting namesake I share with the famous character. Essentially the pie I ordered was I would estimate 70% thick pastry & very little filling. There was so much I left a good chunk of pastry & I never leave food. It was made worse by the filling being average tasting & quite low quality, even including the largest bone I've ever been served inside food. This was a stark contrast to the last time I had the pie there, which was excellent. Had I to score the food based on my meal alone, it would have been a 1. I do acknowledge though my friends fish and chips was tasty & bone free, but not special so would be a 3/5, I have also found the fish & chips decent in the past, so would recommend it as a safe option. Bringing the overall food score up to 2/5. The atmosphere is still good & staff were friendly, although I don't recall being asked how the food was at the end (as I would have said) and certainly no-one commented on the large bone or significant amount of pastry left. I've genuinely brought over 60 visiting friends/colleagues here over the last 10 years & based on this experience am not as inclined to come back. Even with the atmosphere & amusing shared name. Time will tell if I give it another go. Happy to engage with management if you wish to contact me.

Good service, cozy atmosphere, the red cabernet sauvignon was smooth on the palate. But the lamb pie had very little lamb hidden under the mashed potatoes, which was disappointing. The apple-raspberry crumble was a bit too tart for my liking, but that is a matter of preference. I wouldn't mind going again to try out other dishes, as the ingredients were of good quality. I paid 18 pounds for the pie, 8 for the dessert, and about 7 for a small glass of wine. My companion was thrilled over their salmon dish and lemon tart.

Mythical place in Edinburgh where you can eat and discover the terrible story behind its name, who was Deacon Brodie. The place is divided into two floors, the bar that is downstairs and the restaurant that is upstairs. We were lucky enough to try both and loved them. The bar area has a very good atmosphere, and you can try various kinds of beers and whiskey. The restaurant is large with many tables and the food is delicious. The price is not abusive for being so central. The truth is that it is a place that I would repeat and that I think it is essential to visit at least once on your visit to the city.

I came here for the most recent a Burns' Night Supper. I ordered the Smoked Scottish Salmon for Starters, the Balmoral Chicken for Mains, and the Sticky Toffee Pudding for Dessert. The Smoked Salmon was delicious, and went very well with the sour cream, but was also incredibly tasty on its own as well! The Scottish Oatcakes were good too. The Balmoral Chicken as a dish on the whole was quite satisfying in both appetite and taste. The chicken was a little dry and I couldn't quite taste the thyme in the carrots, but the dish was nevertheless satisfyingly tasty and well cooked. The Sticky Toffee pudding was amazing! The combination of the cold ice cream and the hot pudding went very well together. The presentation of all courses was well done, and I was full by the end of the meal. The atmosphere for Burns' Night was quite lively and enjoyable. The pub being built in the early 19th century, at around the time Burns' Night began as a tradition, also added to the experience. Service was excellent! My waiter, who I unfortunately did not get the name of, went out of his way to make sure that the food fit my dietary requirements. He answered questions and checked with the kitchen, even changing the bourbon icecream in the dessert to regular vanilla ice cream for me, for which I was grateful.

We came here for dinner and was told there would be an hour wait. We were given a buzzer and told to sit downstairs in the bar to wait. After an hour we went up and asked how much longer as it was now 9:15pm and we were starving. They told us they had paged us and they sent the cooks home and the kitcken was now closed. We were literally sitting in their bar downstairs. There technology clearly doesn't work but we were only down a flight of stairs so it wouldn't of been hard to come get us. Avoid this place - a tourist trap We had one of the worst dining experiences in Edinburgh. We ordered a steak supposedly aged 21 days, but what we were served was clearly cheap meat without any aging. Also, I asked for it rare and it arrived completely overcooked. I didn't want to argue, but it was a big disappointment. To make matters worse, the plates are ridiculously small. We were four people (two couples) and we ordered croquettes to share... they brought only three. They didn't say anything, they didn't warn us about the amount, and they left us in a super uncomfortable situation. Who is left without croquette? And the icing on the cake: when they brought the bill, they charged us 20% more. When we pointed it out, they called it "a mistake." Coincident or not, it seems like a tactic to get more money from tourists. This site clearly lives by deceiving visitors, without caring about quality or treating customers well. If you want good food and honest treatment, better look somewhere else. There are many much better options in Edinburgh.

Disappointing experience - not recommended Unfortunately, our visit to Deacon Brodie's Tavern was a disappointment. We ordered a 21 day aged steak, but the meat was of poor quality and apparently not aged at all. I also ordered it rare (rare), but it was served completely fried. The portions were also very small. We were four people (two couples) and ordered croquettes to share - but only three came, without any hint from the service staff. This was unpleasant and could have been easily avoided. The biggest problem, however, was the bill: they charged 20% too much. When we pointed this out, they said it was an "oversight." A coincidence? Or a way to charge tourists more? Overall, the restaurant gives the impression that it relies more on tourists who won't come back anyway, rather than focusing on quality and customer service. There are many better alternatives in Edinburgh - unfortunately we cannot recommend this restaurant.

Avoid this place - tourist trap! I had one of the most disappointing dining experiences here. Ordered a 21-day dry-aged steak, but what I got was clearly cheap, low-quality meat with zero aging. To make things worse, I asked for it rare, and they brought it well-done. No point in arguing, so l let it slide. Then came the bill... a sneaky 20% overcharge! When we questioned it, they called it "a mistake." Sure. Sounds like a great way to squeeze extra money out of unsuspecting tourists. This place seems to bank on tourists who won't come back, so they don't bother with quality or honesty. If you want good food and fair pricing, go elsewhere. Plenty of better options in Edinburgh!

Only one star because that chicken gave me food poisoning which ruined the rest of my vacation. My husband and I always get different things so we both taste them. However, on the second day I was craving chicken, he doesn't like it very much, so it was the only meal we hadn't shared until then. We had lunch. The day went well until before dinner, where I started having stomach discomfort. I spent the night with terrible cramps and going back and forth from the bathroom. For the whole following day I was unable to do almost anything. We had a nice program that was completely canceled because I could hardly walk due to cramps. I managed to go out for two hours so as not to spend the whole day in the room, but we had to return quickly. This ruined an entire day of vacation for me out of 3, and it was undoubtedly that chicken.

We always love coming to this Wetherspoons when we're visiting Edinburgh. I think now it's become even busier. I spotted 2 adult males trying to hide the fact they were vaping inside, I couldn't say anything to the staff as they knew I had seen them, but it's not right, they were too lazy to go outside. Otherwise the pub is great.

I hope the staff have woken from their slumber by the time tourist season hits the Royal Mile. It wasn't even that busy with customers. Maybe 5 covers. We were acknowledged quickly with menus. 👍 We pointed out to them that something had been spilt on one if the chairs at our table. Nothing was done about it or even acknowledged. 👎 Then part of our order had been forgotten about. I had to chase this up. 👎Then the table next to us sat the entire time we had eaten, and drank... and used the restrooms before leaving and they still hadn't even had a menu put in front of them. 🤦♂️They also had to chase them up. The food itself was nice.👍 (Albeit you're paying tourist royal Mile Edinburgh prices). So a bit of a shame really. Could definitely do better.
