De Waldens Garden Centre and Coffe shop in East Ayrshire

On a visit to Kilmarnock we went to Dewaldens for lunch. When our food arrived I asked for a glass of tap water as I had to take some medication. I was told they don’t do tap water and that I would have to buy a bottle!! How mean and miserable is that! Won’t be going back and certainly wouldn’t recommend to anyone else.

Great scones and coffee. Popped in for a cuppa and were delighted to enjoy fresh scones. Friendly welcome too.

Cafe open again at last. Soup & panini combo excellent , as was the banoffee pie & gypsy cream. Great staff & covid measures in place.

The best in ayrshire. Staff are great and very knowledgeable in garden centre. Cafe is fantastic very thoroughly cleaned after each customer.soup, sandwiches, cakes and coffee are well presented and very tasty. We would have no hesitation in recommending de waldens. Popped in for great creme de barry soup delicious . Cakes are great as are the homemade scones. Cafe staff are always lovely & friendly.

Enjoyed our visit and the coffee was, as ever, excellent. The scones were crumbly and salty, so was not impressed by them . Surprised that Dr Walden are not, like other similar local outlets, taking advantage of the current Govt scheme as it would have greatly increased their footfall and profit.

I have been going to De Waldens coffee shop for years (sometimes with hubby and other times with mum).Great menu that covers all the bases, absolutely fair prices, consistently serving quality tasty food and lovely home baking. We are pretty demanding when it comes to coffee but the girls get it right every time - 3 shot extra hot latte!The owners “staff” the area just right, leading to quick service from pleasant, engaging girls. Other coffee shops could learn from them.

Back again for soup combo & scone to take away. Great food and lovely friendly staff. Parsnip soup was DELICIOUS as was the egg mayo sandwiches.

Decided on Dewaldens for some great soup on a cold day. It was spicy parsnip and piping hot. DELICIOUS. Had a coffee & a fruit scone after. My wife says the scones are the best she has ever had. Complement indeed from a great baker.

We found this coffee shop while driving through the countryside South of Kilmarnock. Although a little unusual to be attached to a garden center, it was the only place we saw to have lunch. It was very busy with a lot of locals eating here. The wait staff was very friendly with excellent service. I found the roast beef roll to be very dry with no condiments. The chicken/bacon toastie was above average taste. They have an amazing selection of scones and desserts. Prices are a little expensive.

Having eaten a baked potato with beans and cheese here roughly every fortnight for the past four years, we won't be back. Over the last four weeks it has deteriorated rapidly! Yesterday was just vile. The potato was full of eyes and burnt but cold, the beans stone cold, the cheese was pre-grated and the white coffee was all milk. When we were asked if everything was OK and said no, in fact it was probably the worst meal we had ever had there, the response was a simpering laugh.

My friend and I eat lunch regularly at De Walden's. It's bit pricey but no worse than any other garden centre. Last Tuesday I decided for the first time to try their scrambled egg on a roll. Normally anything we have there is delicious, but I was disappointed in the egg. It was solid enough to look as though it had been cooked in a mould and a bit tasteless. It was better once I added salt, but that's not something I would normally do. The staff as always were lovely.

BLT roll and Panini with Coronation Chicken were both very acceptable, accompanied by tea, followed with two cakes. At £20 it was not cheap but it was very good. Service was fast and friendly, and the shop is well worth a visit

I don’t understand why this coffee shop is busy.We had a latte, tea, scone, chocolate fudge cake and banoffee pie.We had to ask twice for a high chair.Portions are big, scones are far too big, reduce the size and increase the quality.One tiny tub of jam for a massive scone, honestly the scone was too doughie resulting in half being left.Banoffee pie you would need to be incredibly hungry with a extreme sweet tooth to finish it, again left half the portion which is mostly just cream.Chocolate fudge cake was ok, recommended to eat warm so we did but sadly it came and all the fudge was a pool, clearly microwaved too long.Latte was incredibly strong, took a sip and left it.All this and £15 worse offDon’t plan to visit again.

De Waldens have a good variety on their menu,something to suit everyone.It is a great place to go for lunch and has a lovely atmosphere.The food is delicious and the staff are always friendly and welcoming.They also have a good selection of mouth watering cakes.The prices are very reasonable which is an added bonus.Thanks to all the staff.

Popped in for lunch. My wife & I both had soup & tuna sandwich with a latte. All lovely & nice staff as well.

Stopped here for coffee on Saturday, as hadn’t been in for a while. Nice new comfy seats colour coordinated presumably with the signage. Decided to have a snack, so ordered a latte and a panini! Service was swift and friendly even though they were very busy. The coffee was lovely as was the panini, served with salad, coleslaw and crisps, set me up for the day. Cakes always look amazing and made on the premises (I asked), but I managed to resist! So whether you want a bike, a plant, a Christmas tree or just a coffee, I would definitely reccommend.

I went to De Waldens on the 17th of September on my way to Stranraer. I thought i would have a Coffee and a scone. I waited forever to be served and then i was told it is waitress service, so I ordered a Mug of Coffee and a scone. They had no plain scones so the woman asked if i would like another kind. I chose a treacle scone instead, and I wish i had not bothered. £4.95 for a Coffee and scone.!! Totally outrageous, i think that is more expensive than London. And to think Kilmarnock is quite a depressed area, the place was full of old grannies spending money like there was no tomorrow. The place is awful and grossly expensive. The scone was soggy in the inside and the girl said "was everything alright for you". I said no it was awful. Her reply was oh well. I would never ever return.

Took the kids on a Sunday morning for a treat. We had the special muffin with bacon, eggs and beans including a hot drink for under £4, excellent value.

Very good food and cakes, however the coffee is very strong - I drink black usually expresso. Service OK. Today I went by myself and felt that I was being thrown out. My plate was whisked off the table as I put my fork down. If I wasn't a regular I wouldn't be back.

My hubby and I visited today. My hubby had a roll and sausage which he said was of good quality. I had an amazing meringue but must say that I found it hard to choose from the lovely cakes available. On the downside I ordered a half shot cappuccino and when it came it was a full shot. I perservered for about half of the cup and my hubby explained to the waitress the situation and asked for some boiling water which I added but by this time my coffee was wasted for me. In hindsight I should have returned the coffee after my first taste and asked for a half shot as I had first requested. When paying our bill I mentioned this but have to say no interest was shown. This experience has spoilt what would have been a lovely one.

We were in the restaurant on Friday & enjoyed a lovely afternoon in the pleasant restaurant. I hade hot chocoholic with whipped cream & marshmallows & lemon meringue pie. & my husband had a latte & millionaire shortbread. It was so lovely. My hubby never got his first choice of a fruit scone as they were finished. Lovely & clean & great service a wee bit pricey for what we got. But lovely food. It's always really busy. Worth a try for the hot choc.

Went here for breakfast and it was excellent. Reasonably priced and good service. Food was fresh and very enjoyable. I now understand why it is always so busy when I pass. Well worth a visit.

Called in for lunch and ordered Panini & soup. Did not receive a Panini but a poor quality baguette. There was very little cheese in it and it was very doughy. It was if it was one of those cheap baguettes that you put in the oven and make yourself. If you have ran out of Paninis, I would have rather had a toastie. On the other hand the soup was absolutely amazing. I have rated poor due to not receiving what I ordered.

Attitude of staff in Café unacceptable. Manager not interested. Staff do not honour agreements resulting in me being overcharged. Staff spoke about me in my hearing. Avoid, a oid, avoid

Arrived later in the afternoon. Cafe still busy. Menu suited towards soups / toasties / cakes rather than main meals. Food made to order. Garden centre prices. Pleasant surroundings. Plenty of parking outside shared with Sprockets Cycle Shop next door.

De Waldens is a great place to go for a walk round for all your garden needs and the coffee shop is a busy place as well i recommend the cakes but it all looks good sometimes you have to wait for a table but that just shows how popular it is 10/10

This is a nice place for breakfast and lunch, although a bit pricey the food is good and the service is ok although sometimes it could be better, some of the girls dont pay full attention to what your asking for so often dont get it right, but its always very busy at lunch time

Tea/Coffee and Scone or Tea/Coffee and hot roll (slightly more expensive) are great value here, especially since the new tables and chairs were installed Previous visits have included good value Soup/Sandwich combos and afternoon tea tasting some of the superb home baking

We recently went to Dewaldens Garden Centre Kilmarnock for a meet up with one of my former Boys Brigade boys. Had a great chat and also enjoyed a great lunch served by caring staff. Been here many times before when it was the old MGM garden centere. Would recomend this place to all but it can be a bit busy and the owners should think about ways of reducing the noise level !

The breakfast here is cheap and cheerful till 11.30am. Worth a visit in morning to fuel up! Menu to suit most. Staff quick and happy.

wife and I try to visit at least once a month , always lovely fresh food, cooked to order , reasonabley priced

Popped in here for a quick lunch with my daughter. However, after sitting for 10 minutes and being completely ignored by the waitress (who served people that arrived after us!) we eventually left. Poor service.

Great place to catch up with friends for an afternoon coffee and cake (home made cakes are so big and yummy) or for a lovely lunch. Always busy around 12-1pm.

We are regulars at De Waldens and enjoy their Daily Specials either filled roll with a hot drink or scone with a hot drink. The staff are kept really busy but are always friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. There is a magnificent choice of cakes on display and an extensive menu including soup, sandwiches, paninis etc. - something for everyone. Cannot praise this place highly enough.

Popped in for a quick lunch and the sandwich & sub roll was very nice. My wife had the pavlova toffee meringue pie & I had a cheese & herb scone. Both were unusally quite disappointing. The cakes are normally delicious , afraid not today. The staff are nice & friendly hopefully cakes back to there best next time.

Have been here quite a few times..nice place with good grub but totally taken aback when I asked for an extra plate to share a sweet with my 88 year old mother..

One of our favourite places to visit due to, mainly, the home baking! Fresh soups are always very tasty but the scones are a treat! HUGE meringues and excellent cheesecake and gateaux. Good coffee too! This place can be very busy and you may have to wait but, it IS worth it!

Always come here for soup its very good always very tasty good service places is clean and staff are nice and friendly.

We visited De Waldens Garden Centre and Coffee shop to purchase some weed killer and decided as it was near afternoon break time to have a tea and coffee in their eating area. What a lovely cuppa we had and I thoroughly enjoyed the cheese scone, also the food that we saw served to others looked real tasty and well presented . A real pleasant place to enjoy a snack or a light meal, served by cheery staff and no long delays!

It's a very nice café which serves great cakes and lunches. The shop is nice as well but isn't particularly huge. It is definitely a good stopping point or a visit for both locals and tourists.

Visit DeWaldens Coffee Shop several times in recent months and it's always busy does not matter what time of the day.Excellent value for money not too expensive but neither cheap as well. Freshly made cakes and sandwiches.Overall will give the Coffee shop 8/10 and always a regular visitor ;)

Good early morning deals - beautiful home made scones and coffee - £2.45, freshly made filled roll and coffee £2.95. Lunches - soup/paninis/sandwiches - freshly made and reasonably priced. Beautiful cakes - resisted so far!

A handy spot to stop off on the edge of town for a light lunch or just a coffee and cake. Friendly staff, good service. Home baking is delicious.

One of the best tea rooms I have been in good service great menu at reasonable prices and special offers for the early birds can't fault it I will be a regular at this place try it too

I can only imagine that the DeWalden coffee shop customers don't post a lot of reviews because this is one of the best places to eat in Killie! We go regularly for morning coffee or a breakfast or lunch and the place is always busy. Even if you have to wait for a table it usually doesn't take long and its worth it. The range of baked goods is lovely and everything is fresh and tasty. They offer a range of deals so the meals are very good value. The staff are pleasant and helpful even when the place is full. Here's a tip, if you fancy the lemon meringue pie with whipped cream, have one between two because it's huge!

With a good array of baking(Scones, Tray Bakes, Gateaux etc) and very attractive special offers, this is a good venue for snack food, breakfast and light lunchesThe baking can be bought for home consumption too, so watch your waist line!As an aside, Christmas paraphernalia is currently on display and many items are well worth consideration

went to dewaldens for a browse through the beginning of the Christmas displays going out. decided on lunch due to the great smell coming through. went in and got a seat. waitress came over and we ordered a toastie and soup combo for just about £12.00 with drinks fabulous. lovely for lunch, lovely friendly staff and amazing take out cheese and herb scones.generally lovely

We were in de Waldenses as a party of 3, we would consider ourselves regulars, not only in the cafe but also the shop, especially at Christmas time, having ordered and enjoying our coffees and cake we were promptly asked after 40 minutes "will there be anything else ladies"? This was because there was people waiting on a table but we thought it was rude and ignorant. What a shame they felt they had to rush people out to get more in to make a quick buck, so disappointed we had a 40 minute time limit

Stopped by on a Sunday lunchtime on way back from shopping. Had Bacon rolls, tea and a cake each. Bacon roll was good and had 3 rashers which was a bonus from the usual 2! Carrot cake was fantastic and wife had an Empire biscuit on what was another very rainy 2015 summers day

Stopped in at this garden centre was surprised to see such a wonderful cafe with such a wide range of food and the most wonderful home made cakes. amazing

We have been coming here most weekends for breakfast for a few year now and the standard stays good,the restaurant has plenty of cheerful staff who serve you quickly,I don't have many negatives food wise but I think the plates should be heated before serving as they are always cold that said I will continue to come here.

Dropped in for a bite to eat on a Bank Holiday Friday and had to wait a while for a table and for service, however this was not surprising given how busy the place was. The menu is quite diverse and the prices are fine. A good range of home baking and the staff were friendly. The noise coming from the food preparation area was quite extraordinary and it was impossible to carry on a normal conversation at a table close to this area. Nice coffee, food a little bland.Toilets are at the other end of the building in the corridor leading to the bike shop. The parking is plentiful - just watch out for pedestrians heading in or out of the garden centre/cafe.I think that a brand new cafe etc is planned across the road that may solve the noise problems with better interior design and layout.

Good food, but a bit over priced. Good Quality home baking. I like there homemade Lentil soup, i have this every time we visit.

When you walk in to this building you are surprised at how busy the small restaurant is. My wife enjoys us having a pot of tea and a cake anytime we are in for gardening goods. Very friendly service. Tables kept clean. My only gripe would be that the small cakes are overpriced.

This is a lovely restaurant . They have lovely home baking and there soups and sandwiches are nice. They don't have an extensive menu but a nice place for lunch with friends.

I am a regular visitor to Dewaldens and have only good things to say about it. The food is good and freshly cooked and the scones are fab. It is always busy but the girls keep the tables cleared and the service is always fast and efficient. It is a real treat in this day to have the food served to you and not have to balance trays. I hope this continues when the new coffee shop opens. The pictures look wonderful. Keep up the good work.

A great wee coffee shop which is part of a small garden centre. I visit very regularly and wish I had reviewed previously as I would have given 5 stars as everything; coffee, food and staff are great.However they have just changed their coffee machine and it is no-where near as nice, coffee to strong and not as tasty - shameNonetheless will still visit

I have my breakfast here from time to time. The coffee is great and the food is also very good.Lots of home baking and service with a smile. The staff are friendly and polite.I would definitely recommend to anyone who is in the area.

Called in at the garden centre and popped into the cafe for lunch..not an extensive menu but the soup is home made and all the bakery is too..hubby had soup and sandwich and I had a baked potato..comes with various fillings and a side salad ..couldn't resist their cheese and herb scones..had pot of tea for two and the whole lot came to just over £14. Service is very good and staff polite and friendly..always very busy at lunch times so you may have to queue for ten minutes or so..but well worth the wait.. Have been here several times and never disappointed.

I have visited Dewaldens a few times since my last review and the place is very good. I was with family today and the cafe was busy as always. There was six of us and we had: Mocha, 2 Lattes, Pot of Tea, Berries and Cream smoothie, can of diet Irn Bru, Scrambled Egg roll, Roll and Sausage, Tuna and Sweetcorn Panini, Meringue, Traybake and CHocolate cake. All food was lovely and the chocolate cake was lovely and moist this time unlike the last time when it was dry. Although the place was busy and the waitress forgot my chocolate cake but this was quickly rectified when it was pointed out. I will be back

We go regularly to the Coffee Shop. It always busy but the Staff are very pleasant and service is good. The menu is very varied and well priced, If you are trying to cut down I would advise you to steer clear of the cake cabinet!!

De Walden's is a very pleasant venue for a morning coffee, lunch or afternoon tea and a visit is recommended. The snacks and bakery goods, of which there is a good variety, are excellent. All are fresh and appear to be "home produced." This quality is reflected in the level of popularity in that, at lunchtime in particular, it is often necessary to queue for a table. This is fine if you have time to spare but perhaps not so good if you have limited time on a lunch break.

This is a pleasant little coffee shop attached to the garden centre. As with all independent garden centres, the coffee shop is a bit on the expensive side, but very nice home baking. Nice homemade soups and a range of sandwiches that are not run of the mill, by any means.

Visit here often and would recommend to anyone. The coffee is lovely and the varied selection of scones and cakes could make any strong-willed dieter crumble. The morning offers run until 11.30am and are excellent value which is always reflected by the busy car park. The main menu has a good variety to suit all tastes and prices are pretty good for a garden centre environment. Service is always very friendly and fast but you never feel you are being rushed. The improvements across the whole business have made a big impact with new uniforms being sported in the last few days. For good food and service De Waldens is well worth a visit.

Visit often as it's local, place is so much better since being rebranded. Cafe always very busy, cakes are delicious and really good quality coffee. Lot of young cafe staff, always pleasant, although service can be a little slow. Garden centre is basic but well presented and reasonable selection of plants for the size. Potential to extend and become a leading garden centre in ayrshire.

I feel a little guilty for only giving an average considering this is my favourite place to enjoy a coffee at a great price. Staff are friendly and efficient only one bad thing I can say about the service is sometimes the girls can whip away your plate too quickly even when the person your with isn't finished but the girls are just young and still learning, and are very pleasant and good at their jobs! Oh and the cakes and scones are amazing you won't get better for the value, the tarts are really thick and full of filling too weather it's rhubarb or apple. My dog loves it too as I normally end up buying her a toy from the good little selection they have in their garden centre. Anyway the only reason I gave an average was because of the decor it's still a little run down inside and not much different from before it was taken over and turned into dewaldens, although I know this requires money and in time I'm sure it's only going to get better. So keep up the good work its great to have this place in Kilmarnock

Have been here several times and find it very good especially for soup & cake/sweet. They could do with more staff as sometimes you have a bit of a wait but the waiters/waitresses are friendly enough and go as fast as they can as it can be very busy. i would recommend a visit.

I come here often whether with family or friends. A wonderful experience surrounded by the aroma of delicious home baking. The baked potatoes are a firm favourite with me. You get a decent portion with lots of extras on your plate too. The lattes are out of this world and it's hard to decide what cake you want as they are all delicious! A great place to watch the world go by and wander through the gift and garden area afterwards. Always busy and bustling with life. A sign of a good quality eaterie.

Went with my Aunt, Uncle and Dad for a cuppa and a bit of cake. My uncle had the Macaroni Cheese and said it was fantastic, my Dad had a toastie and enjoyed it and my Aunt had a pavlova that she enjoyed. I had the chocolate cake which was nice if a little dry. Service wasn't super fast but the place was heaving, so it did have a good atmosphere. I will no doubt go back at one point.

Great scones(and a good variety of them) and good coffee and all at a cost of £2.49 each. Fantastic value and quick, pleasant service. As a side issue, good value wild bird food is available in the shop. Enjoy and revisit

This Garden centre and coffee shop has changed ownership and has been beautifully upgraded. I loved wandering round the outdoor area and choosing garden ornaments and plants during the summer. Really worth a visit. The coffee shop is good value and popular too.

Rebranded from being part of the MGM Garden Centre. As always a friendly and well priced experience with basic snack food and nice coffee, etc. The service is good and the decor has been improved with new furnishings and an upmarket look from the old days. The view isn't too good with a busy road nearby and parked cars blocking the way. Be careful not to reverse into the window and watch out for fellow visitors. The place used to be car salesroom and still has that look about it - good historical connections as the 'Peace and Plenty' was the name for the 19th century pub in this area. the name comes from the family who owned Dean Castle and then donated it to the people of Kilmarnock.

A small but lovely wee place place for lunch, serving the best mac and cheese ever! I had been going on about it so much my son's insisted on joining their Mum and Aunt for lunch and were not disappointed. The cakes are amazing, as are the portions. Not weight watcher friendly though, but great place for a treat! Staff are lovely and prices will not break the bank, well worth a visit if you are in the area.
