My elderly parents were really disappointed with their first visit here. My mum ordered soup and asked for a glass of water to put a little in her soup to cool it down but was told she'd have to buy a bottle of water. She explained it wasn't to drink, it was to add to her soup but was still refused. She had no option other than to buy a bottle of water so she could cool her soup down. This is totally unacceptable and ridiculous. Surely the server could have taken the soup back and added a little bit of tap water? Mum can't eat things burning hot and all she wanted was a small splash of water, or even an ice cube would have done. They're in their eighties and I felt annoyed when they told me about this. I see someone else has written a review about the tap water situation too.

Visiting an old haunt from 20 years plus while in area Went in for sandwich & coffee, still a great wee place to eat.....lots of choice toasties, pannines, soup, baked potatoes & more Giant scones & homemade cream cakes, cheesecake & other tray bakes I had toastie with two fillings & side salad, dressing & crisps, other half baked potato with butter & two toppings also had a side salad with dressing, they certainly DON'T SKIMP on the portion sizes & VERY REASONABLY PRICED. Staff friendly & helpful, cafe clean & well stocked Sit-in or takeaway. Busy wee place, not surprised though Thanks all....left stuffed as we couldn't resist sharing a scone & some cheesecake 😋

Overpriced,£5 for a pot of one cup each tea.£2.99 for a scone. I've never been to any establishment that refuses to give their customers a glass of tap water. You need to buy sparkling water,to take medication really. Shocking way to treat people.

We recently had family visiting and decided to pay a return visit to De Waldens in Kilmarnock for lunch. It has been several years since we have tasted their food and we were not disappointed. The place was really busy but it was not long before we were seated at our table and our order taken and served up. What we had was delicious and well presented. Will we return ? Yes.

Meeting up with friends for a spot of lunch…..what a disappointment!! We placed our order, I asked for tap water and the server said “we have bottled water” I replied saying, no, tap water is fine thanks. She said they only did bottled water!! I was shocked! I have never ever been refused a glass of tap water in any restaurant I’ve ever been to, it’s a total disgrace! When the food came, the prawns on the baked potato my friend had were tiny and dry. My other friend ordered a toastie….it was two slices of toast with filling! My panini was tasty, but not flat like it should have been. We’ll never be back….to be refused a glass of tap water is absolutely ridiculous…. I feel sorry for the staff having bosses that think this is an acceptable decision…. the only good thing about the place is the free parking.

We went for a toastie and 1 tea and a coffee.I asked for 2 glasses of water and was told we would have to buy a bottle. This was very disappointing, surely it is just courtesy to provide tap water ,we had spent over £20 on food and drink. The toastie was fine ,the staff were nice but this totally spoiled our lunch.

Avoid like the plague at lunchtime. Plates, cups are cleared the second you finish what you've eaten, drunk. May as well throw you bodily out the door. OK you want the table back, but it's not a good customer experience. Won't be back.

Went here by default, we were asked to move tables after my friend who is disabled had already sat down, this so that they could start clearing up, it was 3 15pm. Our server was downright rude and said we don't do tap water, we hadn't even asked for any! The food we had was nice, the only reason they have 1 star, will never ever go back, spoilt our lovely afternoon.

De Waldens Garden Centre provided an unforgettable experience for us as we embarked on the exciting journey of preparing for our new baby. The shop had already garnered high praise, but it was the exceptional service we received that truly set this visit apart. Our visit was made extraordinary by the incredible Anna, who guided us in our quest for the perfect pram. Anna's boundless enthusiasm and wealth of knowledge were apparent from the moment we walked in. She turned what could have been a mundane task into an absolute pleasure. We shared laughs and an instant connection throughout our time in the store. Anna's impact was so profound that, despite visiting an award-winning pram shop in Troon afterward, we couldn't help but feel disappointed by the comparison. Anna's insight and the genuine connection we had with her were unparalleled. We even found ourselves selecting the exact same pram, simply because her recommendations were so well-informed and persuasive. After leaving the store, we returned to De Waldens to make our pram purchase, despite a slight cost difference elsewhere. Anna didn't just excel during our visit; she also maintained contact through email, keeping us updated on the pram's arrival. Her dedication and continued support were truly remarkable. In fact, Anna's exceptional service has convinced us to return to De Waldens this weekend to purchase an additional package, which includes a trio of nightlights, cot lights, and a monitor. She is undoubtedly a credit to your store, a shining star among your staff, and a testament to the outstanding service De Waldens Garden Centre provides. Go Anna! Thank you for making this experience memorable and exceptional.

Food wasn't great but it was almost acceptable (wife didn't finish hers). However, biggest gripe was refusal to supply tap water. We are OAPs and whilst my wife could manage a coffee with her meal, I couldn't. Tough, seems to be the answer. The waitress told me that it was the owner's decision. Well, I won't be back and I'd suggest avoidance since if the owner can be so petty that he/she behaves in such a manner, then there are usually other issues.

We visited for brunch. The full breakfast includes tea or coffee and is good value. My main and overriding gripe is no tap water?! We spent around £15 on brunch and asked for some tap water with our coffees and the waitress politely advised they don’t do tap water and this decision was down to management… In this day and age, with attempting to reduce recycling, spend less money and having a product on our door step such as Scottish Water, it seems ridiculous management want to snatch a few more pennies for something that should be free.

Visited the cafe midweek to continue my day of work while juggling children during the school strike. The cafe was very busy on arrival which is always a good sign, and we were seated within a few minutes. The staff were extremely helpful and very patient with the fussy request of kids and catered exactly to their liking by deconstructing a sandwich and adding a fabulous selection of crisps at the side which when we asked for more the waitress kindly obliged and brought a further big bowl of delicious crisps. The lentil soup was so delicious I was tempted to ask for seconds of that too but chose to leave space for the excellent array of chilled cakes which were all lovely on order. I chose to enjoy a pot of decaf tea while the kids enjoyed juice and the free Wi-Fi to play games while I worked away. I was conscious I might be overstaying my welcome as I was engrossed in work emails but the staff seemed happy to let me continue working while sipping tea and for that reason I will definitely be back to enjoy the lovely warm welcoming surroundings while working. Next time I’m for a large hot chocolate & cheesecake! Yum! Finally just to add it was a delight to see who I expect is the manager assisting the waitresses in clearing tables and setting them for the next keen visitors arriving.

We found this coffee shop while driving through the countryside South of Kilmarnock. Although a little unusual to be attached to a garden center, it was the only place we saw to have lunch. It was very busy with a lot of locals eating here. The wait staff was very friendly with excellent service. I found the roast beef roll to be very dry with no condiments. The chicken/bacon toastie was above average taste. They have an amazing selection of scones and desserts. Prices are a little expensive.

Having eaten a baked potato with beans and cheese here roughly every fortnight for the past four years, we won't be back. Over the last four weeks it has deteriorated rapidly! Yesterday was just vile. The potato was full of eyes and burnt but cold, the beans stone cold, the cheese was pre-grated and the white coffee was all milk. When we were asked if everything was OK and said no, in fact it was probably the worst meal we had ever had there, the response was a simpering laugh.

My friend and I eat lunch regularly at De Walden's. It's bit pricey but no worse than any other garden centre. Last Tuesday I decided for the first time to try their scrambled egg on a roll. Normally anything we have there is delicious, but I was disappointed in the egg. It was solid enough to look as though it had been cooked in a mould and a bit tasteless. It was better once I added salt, but that's not something I would normally do. The staff as always were lovely.

I don’t understand why this coffee shop is busy.We had a latte, tea, scone, chocolate fudge cake and banoffee pie.We had to ask twice for a high chair.Portions are big, scones are far too big, reduce the size and increase the quality. One tiny tub of jam for a massive scone, honestly the scone was too doughie resulting in half being left.Banoffee pie you would need to be incredibly hungry with a extreme sweet tooth to finish it, again left half the portion which is mostly just cream.Chocolate fudge cake was ok, recommended to eat warm so we did but sadly it came and all the fudge was a pool, clearly microwaved too long.Latte was incredibly strong, took a sip and left it.All this and £15 worse offDon’t plan to visit again.

I waited forever to be served and then i was told it is waitress service, so I ordered a Mug of Coffee and a scone. They had no plain scones so the woman asked if i would like another kind. I chose a treacle scone instead, and I wish i had not bothered. £4.95 for a Coffee and scone.!! Totally outrageous, i think that is more expensive than London. And to think Kilmarnock is quite a depressed area, the place was full of old grannies spending money like there was no tomorrow. The place is awful and grossly expensive. The scone was soggy in the inside and the girl said "was everything alright for you". I said no it was awful. Her reply was oh well. I would never ever return.

On the downside I ordered a half shot cappuccino and when it came it was a full shot. I perservered for about half of the cup and my hubby explained to the waitress the situation and asked for some boiling water which I added but by this time my coffee was wasted for me. In hindsight I should have returned the coffee after my first taste and asked for a half shot as I had first requested. When paying our bill I mentioned this but have to say no interest was shown. Give me a good fruit scone and I'm yours! Great food and friendly staff in De Waldens! Not exactly designer furniture but the number of regulars that they have speaks volumes. I love the soup! Well done guys!

I can only imagine that the DeWalden coffee shop customers don't post a lot of reviews because this is one of the best places to eat in Killie! We go regularly for morning coffee or a breakfast or lunch and the place is always busy. Even if you have to wait for a table it usually doesn't take long and its worth it. The range of baked goods is lovely and everything is fresh and tasty. They offer a range of deals so the meals are very good value. The staff are pleasant and helpful even when the place is full. Here's a tip, if you fancy the lemon meringue pie with whipped cream, have one between two because it's huge!

With a good array of baking(Scones, Tray Bakes, Gateaux etc) and very attractive special offers, this is a good venue for snack food, breakfast and light lunchesThe baking can be bought for home consumption too, so watch your waist line!As an aside, Christmas paraphernalia is currently on display and many items are well worth consideration

Very popular cafe within garden centre. Home-made soup, sandwiches and amazing home baking. Helpful friendly staff. It's easy to see why Dewalden's is so popular. Well worth a visit!

We were in de Waldenses as a party of 3, we would consider ourselves regulars, not only in the cafe but also the shop, especially at Christmas time, having ordered and enjoying our coffees and cake we were promptly asked after 40 minutes "will there be anything else ladies"? This was because there was people waiting on a table but we thought it was rude and ignorant. What a shame they felt they had to rush people out to get more in to make a quick buck, so disappointed we had a 40 minute time limit

Stopped by on a Sunday lunchtime on way back from shopping. Had Bacon rolls, tea and a cake each. Bacon roll was good and had 3 rashers which was a bonus from the usual 2! Carrot cake was fantastic and wife had an Empire biscuit on what was another very rainy 2015 summers day

We have been coming here most weekends for breakfast for a few year now and the standard stays good, the restaurant has plenty of cheerful staff who serve you quickly,I don't have many negatives food wise but I think the plates should be heated before serving as they are always cold that said I will continue to come here.

Continues to be a great place for a soup, Panini and a scone. My favourite informal place in Kilmarnock. Coffee still not the same as it was (Costa and Dobbies do better coffee)Was there this lunchtime with a friend and it was great

Dropped in for a bite to eat on a Bank Holiday Friday and had to wait a while for a table and for service, however this was not surprising given how busy the place was. The menu is quite diverse and the prices are fine. A good range of home baking and the staff were friendly. The noise coming from the food preparation area was quite extraordinary and it was impossible to carry on a normal conversation at a table close to this area. Nice coffee, food a little bland.Toilets are at the other end of the building in the corridor leading to the bike shop. The parking is plentiful - just watch out for pedestrians heading in or out of the garden centre/cafe.I think that a brand new cafe etc is planned across the road that may solve the noise problems with better interior design and layout.

When you walk in to this building you are surprised at how busy the small restaurant is. My wife enjoys us having a pot of tea and a cake anytime we are in for gardening goods. Very friendly service. Tables kept clean. My only gripe would be that the small cakes are overpriced.

I am a regular visitor to Dewaldens and have only good things to say about it. The food is good and freshly cooked and the scones are fab. It is always busy but the girls keep the tables cleared and the service is always fast and efficient. It is a real treat in this day to have the food served to you and not have to balance trays. I hope this continues when the new coffee shop opens. The pictures look wonderful. Keep up the good work.

Have eaten a few times here over the last year. Visited again this week and was disappointed at the portion sizes that have clearly shrunk. We overheard the table beside us comment too. I’d rather be charged a couple of quid extra for the same portion size rather than see them shrink and keep the prices. The chicken Caesar salad look like a starter portion and the Tablet Sundae comes a with a really long spoon but a very shallow dish. Strange decisions have been made by management! Staff were very friendly, though.
