The De Vere Cotswold Water Park Hotel is a lovely luxury hotel in a peaceful area near Cirencester. There are a large number of well appointed rooms, some with really lovely views over the lake next to the hotel. I stayed here for a conference, so not sure about the value for money, but my overall impression was very positive. The staff are friendly and proactive. Right from the cleaning team, to the front desk and food and beverage people. I look forward to returning here in the future and can recommend a stay here if you're looking for comfortable and peaceful accommodation in the Cotswolds.

The room was falling to bits. They need a maintenance person. In addition they need to renovate. The whole bathroom had parts falling off with a stained bathtub. Basic items like a flush button needed tightening. The room itself had an odd, musty smell. I had to leave the window open to air it out. The bar didn't have three of the items I wanted after rechosing each time. I was told to look at the menu. These items were from the menu. Bar staff also lacked knowledge of their own wines or beers and didn't seem interested in a sale. The gym may be the only positive.

I have a few personal issues and wanted to do something special for my wife within my limits. Even though the hotel didnt offer what ivwas ssking re the special suprise. She called me today in code and said she and the manager had sorted it out. Sorry bossman but Destiny gets this shout. I cant describe how, pleasant, kind-hearted, willing to go the extra mile and how she spoke to me with great customer service and met all my needs. If i was not signed off work and lived your way, i would nab her to work for me, as i feel she really cares and would be a great trusty member of staff. Kind regards, Adrian S

Overall a very pleasant and positive experience. I’ve stayed at this hotel multiple times already and was lucky enough to get the same room every time. The bathrooms are a bit outdated/lived in, but the overall comfort is very good! I also like the breakfast buffet and the staff are always friendly and supportive. The location next to the lake makes for a beautiful scenery! I’d stay there again and would recommend to others!

Me and my partner stayed at the De Vere Water Park hotel as a get away together and to be completely honest for £130 per night it really wasn’t worth it. The room was average with a very uncomfortable bed and kids running up and down the corridor so didn’t sleep much whilst we were there. On the Friday when we arrived me and my partner tried to book a treatment at the spa however we were turned away by staff and were told that we could book online. After going back to our room before dinner we tried to book online but it wasn’t working. The following day we went back to the spa at 9 am to book a treatment manually to then be told everything was booked until the day we were leaving at 12:30. This also meant that we couldn’t even use the swimming pool or the sauna! The only good things about this hotel were the cleanliness, the cooked breakfast was lovely and the gym was good! But waste of money and time off of work in my opinion.

Myself & my partner stayed at De Vere for what was supposed to be a relaxing weekend last week. Unfortunately we left severely disappointed with our experience. Having specifically opted for this hotel over other, much cheaper ones due to the pool & spa facilities which are advertised as available to hotel guests for an extra £10, we enquired about the spa at check in, and were met with a short answer that this was 'nothing to do with the hotel' and we would 'have to ask enquire at the spa directly'. After dropping our bags to our room, we headed straight to the spa as we were concerned about the hotel receptionists attitude around the spa. The spa then told us that they were fully booked and not accepting hotel guests that day, however, we could use the gym. Disappointed by this, I raised my issue with the spa staff, who pointed out to me that the spa were actually a different business to the hotel, and I had been mislead by the hotel's website, not theirs, which I thought was fair enough. After booking in at the spa for the following morning for £20 so as not to avoid further disappointment, I then raised my issue with hotel front desk, who were quick to try and resolve the issue with a £20 bar tab, although they 'could not refund me the cost of the spa booking'. At this point, I also booked our dinner reservation, and was told that the Boathouse restaurant was not actually open on Saturday evening, so we would be unable to dine there, again, contrary to what was stated on the website. I was then met with further disappointment later at dinner in the brasserie, having booked the 'WELLSPENT' package which is advertised as '£30 dining credit per guest', in realising that this does not include drinks, which is again not stated anywhere within the promotional copy or terms and conditions of the website. Overall, I left feeling as if I had been completely missold the experience at De Vere, and had been somewhat ripped off, having them not have delivered on several things advertised on their website. For anyone considering booking, I would encourage you call ahead and get clear direction on what will and will not be available in your booking, as the website is full of empty promises.

Absolutely brilliant dog friendly hotel, stunning location. Highly recommended. We stayed one night, two rooms just before Christmas. We had two dogs with us (Ruby, Lola). Our only niggle was late room availability for which we were rewarded with a drinks voucher at the bar. Everything was dog friendly and welcoming. We got a couple of lovely dog beds, towels, bowls etc. After a muddy walk we used the dog washing facilities. At no time did we feel disadvantaged or frowned on for having dog. Brilliant. We didn’t have an evening meal at the hotel (we had pizza at The Stump: great!) but the bar was nice (lovely Christmas vibe) and the breakfast was superb. All in all, highly recommended and we’ll return.

We booked a spa weekend for our anniversary, and it was a great experience. Our package included breakfast, allowance towards dinner, 1 Rasual treatment each, and 1 spa treatment. The rooms are nice and the balconies are huge. The property is extremely beautiful. We were able to use the spa, but only at the time of our treatments. About the treatments: The Rasual treatment was medium. It was a self-help one with mud and a steam room. You may want to do a patch test for the mud - I didn't do that, and I have very sensitive skin, and it didn't suit me a lot. For the spa treatment, we chose full body exfoliation and massage. I assumed the massage would be full body as well, but it was only a back massage. The massage was great and much needed. The food was good overall.

Way too much money for what you get. We had a room with a view. Yes, the view towards the lake is beautiful, but special to say the least. It is a warm room where only some upper windows can be opened. If you open the windows you constantly hear the neighbors downstairs who sit on a kind of continuous terrace (they have paid a lot more money) so to sleep the windows have to be closed. Also keep the curtains closed because everyone looks in as soon as you turn on the light. No air conditioning, so the cheap fan has to provide some cooling. Staff that is friendly but completely incompetent. Bed too soft but that is a personal taste. The positive thing about this hotel: that from now on I'm sure I'd rather spend an extra hour looking for something decent.

A stunning location. However, the hotel is struggling to keep up with it's 4 star rating as things were a bit shabby around the edges. I think the staff were struggling to cope with the sheer number of guests- there was a prom, an awards ceremony and a wedding in the space of 2 days, plus loads of guests just having a weekend break. There was peeling paint in the bedroom and the curtains were hanging off the hooks. The apartment smelt of smoke. The spa was too busy to be relaxing, and they had wallpapered over some tiles, which was peeling off. The changing rooms were dirty. The bar had a massive queue and the staff were rushed off their feet. The complimentary shower gel was heavily watered down. We did enjoy the stay but I think the senior management need to invest in more staff if they're going to charge top price on a busy weekend.

We spent 2 nights at the De Vere Cotswolds and would say it was ok but not great. The hotel itself is massive, and there is lots of parking including one electric charging spot. There is more electric charging directly nextdoor to the hotel at the 720 Pizzeria car park which we used as the hotel charger did not seem to work. Our room was fine, however as we were in a self catering studio room getting fresh towels/bedding or having your room cleaned as you generally get in a hotel daily cost extra. Although there is a swimming pool on site, this is not accessible for hotel guests. Only those who have paid for a spa package (most of which are around £100) have access to the pool for one hour a day. I can see this making sense due to the huge number of guests... but the pool features heavily in their advertising (plus the first sign as you drive unti the hotel is a picture of the pool) therefore I feel they are misleading a lot of guests who would arrive hoping to access the pool. For those looking to swim, there is an outdoor swimming pool in Cirencester which was lovely and £6.50 per adult. There are 3 restaurants on site which they encourage you to book when checking in, however due to them all having mixed reviews on Google maps and an average of 3 stars yet being really expensive (£19 for a veggie burger) we did not use them. However, I would really recommend 720 Pizzeria which is directly next to the hotel and you can access it through the hotel car park... they have a pizza van and outdoor seating with a bar!! The location was decent, but note pretty much all of the local pubs and the hotel restaurants are not open at lunch time, so finding food in the middle of the day that wasn't a co-op proved tricky. Would recommend The Lodge at Lake 12 which is just opposite the hotel... they are a cafe open all afternoon and servicing nice street food. Additionally, Carlé's Coffee is round the corner and they had an all day breakfast and lunch menu. We found it difficult to contact reception via phone, with neither of the phone in our room working and no one answering when we repeatedly called from our mobiles, guess this may be linked to being such a big hotel.

Thought I’d quickly add a review whilst sat in a nice spot on the decking, outside our room. Here for a wedding and having a lovely time so far. Despite the size, I’ve found it quite peaceful and relaxing sat outside our room. The odd person comes past, as they walk from their room to the dining area or back.. but there is the sound of trees rustling and birdsong, so the traffic on the nearby motorway can be tuned out. Had dinner at The Boathouse last night: I had crayfish and prawn cocktail on a beetroot bed, beautifully presented, although perhaps the thousand island could have had a bit more of a kick, with a touch of lemon, Worcester sauce or mustard powder? Still very good. Then I had the pearl barley risotto with beetroot (ate lots of beetroot yesterday!) and vegan feta which I was curious to try - I think it must have been the cashew nut version as it was super creamy and delicious and dare I say nicer than normal feta, which I can find a bit too tangy. Breakfast was great - they’re catering for large numbers but doing it very well. I really enjoyed granola, seeds, dried banana and yoghurt with a touch of oat milk, fruit juice (blueberry!) and a decent cappuccino (there’s a machine that grinds the beans, worth waiting for even if there’s a bit of queue). Hubby found his flat white a little bitter, but enjoyed the same ‘starter’ as me before his ‘main’ cooked brekkie. No lunch will be needed! Rooms are spacious and clean, with everything we need (we are pretty easy to please!). Some of the fittings in the bathroom look a little tired and not sure the fan in the bathroom is working as it should, but that’s no big deal to us. We didn’t have a plug in the bath when we arrived, but the reception were super helpful with finding one for us (gotta take advantage of a bath, when you’re a boat dweller!) Giving 4 stars for Rooms, because whilst I’m aware we have been lucky with our room location and appointment, some of our relatives have been less fortunate and have a car park view (although I appreciate its luck of the draw) and an issue with bath not draining so unable to shower, so their stay has been not quite perfect so far. I guess I’m such a large place with multiple rooms, you are likely to get issues like this, but they’ve been particularly unlucky. Having said that, we are loving it, especially the pool and sauna, and ice/water bucket, which were glorious after a run in the sunshine around the lake and down the river, earlier this morning. Looking forward to the wedding tomorrow.

Dated rooms and general decor. Shower in room not hot enough, reported it to reception who said they will send someone but seems nothing was done as it was the same the next day. Soap/shampoo dispensers don’t work properly. Breakfast average at best. The biggest issue is that they charge if you want to reserve a slot in the gym or pool…seriously? Why not just a refundable deposit? Just a way of fleecing their customers. Location is nice and the grounds are well maintained. Can’t really recommend this place and I would look elsewhere for your vacation as this hotel is simply not worth the premium fees.

But it’s clean, tidy and the breakfast is reasonably average. However picking a 09:30 slot the staff were closing up the breakfast area around 10:00 whilst we were still eating. Moving chairs to block off walkways thereby restricting access, Orange juice disappears without notice and hot glasses provided straight from the dishwasher for cold drinks? The room A lovely setting, a nice, clean spacious room and a good overall feel. Unfortunately woken up by a rather loud dog ‘chorus’ at 07:15. Summary The hotel is really nice but is definitely is missing a ‘customer first’ approach to communication in a number of areas! I advised my issues to Ben on checkout, he heard but wasn’t listening ….. Four days after the visit and no reply as promised hence the review…

A comfortable hotel with lovely view over water if you book a room with a view, otherwise you get the car park. Went in early April and there were a few mosquitoes however later in the year I guess there'd be many more!

Great place to stay as a base camp. By the lake great views. Stayed on the first floor in main building. Nice room - sadly let down buy the fact that unlike the ground and top floor .which have a balcony on the top and veranda on the bottom. Nothing on first floor only 3 very small windows at the top . Which if you are a little on the short side would not be able to reach. If you did nit wish to eat there. There is a separate bar/restaurant next to it.. bit to pricey. If your you fun of water sports. Also on site. ... like I said ok as a base .. most other places within 30/40 mins drive

Dissapointed with the dinner menu's, and the room needed decorating, but the outlook was great. The staff were helpful and cheerful. Pity they have a strange rule regarding the swimming pool.

We have just come back from a 3 night stay at De Vere Cotswold Water Park and we absolutely loved it. We were there with a dog and two children and we all had such a wonderful time. The rooms were spotless and such a great size. They have thought of everything even down to the De Vere dog bowls and dog beds. The breakfast was amazing, the food in The Boathouse was delicious and the surrounding area and walks were beautiful. There was so much to do we wanted to stay longer! We will definitely be back and we will definitely be recommending to others!

Welcome to the playground! Wife and I had a 3 night stay here and this is an honest accurate review of the hotel. These are the negatives as it's always good to finish on positive comments. The room we had was very untidy and was in need of decorating. Two brown stains on the carpet next to the bed, god knows what that is. The room smelt stale and unclean. The bathroom, was an utter disgrace. Dirty, toilet cracked, sink wouldn't drain, sink was hanging off the wall along with some of the tiles. Fan didn't work so everything stayed wet. Soap dispenser didn't work but they managed to threaten you with a £30 fine if you were to take one! Bath was stained and no toilet brush. Kids are allowed to do as they please here so if you value a relaxing holiday, don't bother. Now I understand today's standards of parenting is way off the mark with little to no consideration for anyone else's enjoyment, the hotel staff allowed kids to shout and run around the place like a playground. A few times during my stay, 3 kids were racing around the reception area on scooters while OAP's, wheel chair users etc were trying to book in and go about there holiday. Nothing was said by the hotel staff! Amazing. Some little darling child that was unattended managed to get in the lift and got stuck due to the stupidity of the parents putting an arm in the lift door. After some time I offered some advice but was "refused" by the parents so the fire brigade was called. The fire brigade done exactly what I advised the parents and he was out in seconds. Shame they didn't listen to me as the kid spent 30 minutes in the lift as the hotel staff, as nice as they are, wouldn't stand up to the parents. This family was given a free meal that night! Mmmmmmm It seems the hotel staff are afraid to say anything to this unacceptable behaviour. Frightened of upsetting these inconsiderate families they choose to say nothing and allow others to become agitated and ruin our stay. The good points, the hotel staff were friendly, the food was fantastic and the parking was good if like me you are worried about getting your car damaged. Hotels need to up their game and consider all not just the entitled few!

We have just returned home from a 3 night stay at De Vere Cotswold Park with two dogs. I could not fault the hotel! The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was perfectly placed for our dogs plus two lovely beds and bowls. We were able to park close and there was green space for quick walks for dogs. There were numerous fabulous walks along canal, footpaths and old railway line, directly from the hotel. There is a super cleaning area for dog paws, wellies etc. The pool is great, not huge but warm and good for a swim. The breakfasts are unbeatable. Everything you could think of plus a number of delicious options we hadn’t thought of! The dinners were also excellent. We will be back for sure! Thank you everyone for a super holiday.

The spa was awesome and the pool was good. The inhouse restaurant food was brilliant(and big portions). The bed and the pillows in the room we got was ok from comfort point of view, but could have been better where the other services are so great. The charging block is really useful for phones and extra plug points, and the lake views are great.

Nice rooms, however 'Spa' was being used as a kids paddling pool, noisey and not relaxing in the slightest. Wanted a nice relaxing weekend away with my other half after a stressful time but it turned out to be the opposite. Don't advertise as a 'spa' if kids are allowed to use it.

Lovely area, beautiful place surrounded by loads of things to do if you can drive. Rooms are lovely and decent size but we unfortunately had a few minor problems that just disappointed me. The first being we booked a room for myself and a child. The child's bed was a very uncomfortable armchair pull out bed. Hardly any padding to it at all so my daughter had to sleep in bed with me. Shes a wriggler so I hardly slept the entire time. Second issue with the room was that the plug in the bathroom sink was stuck and wouldn't pop up so the sink was just filling up when we were washing our hands. Tried to call room service for help several times while my daughter was sleeping to sort it out but no answer. This was around 6/7 so I wasn't late. Luckily I had a nail file with me and it was just thin enough to get under the plug to get it out. Thirdly, room service to the room appeared very understaffed. I think over the 4 days we were there we only got through to one person when calling for room service. I had to walk to the bar (it was a long way with a toddler each time) just to get a drink. They said just press 0 on the phone and we will come and get it. Tried several times again but no answer. Another minor issue, but annoying, was when we ordered food at the bar. They brought some of our food out but forgot some, I had to go up to the bar and ask where it was. Then at dessert I again had to ask at the bar where it was as it had been around 45 minutes. When they brought it over they had our order wrong, it was just 3 scoops of ice cream but they had wrong flavour. Obviously my son (who was staying in my parents room) got upset as we had already waited a long time. The second time we ordered food at the bar it was great service, I wish I got the gentlemans name. He was a very polite, happy smiling man. He double checked everything with us and even came over to make sure we were happy with everything. If you have small children like me avoid the children's burgers off the kids menu, they are far too big and smothered in burger sauce. I honestly thought they'd brought us adult portions. Safe to say my kids didn't eat it. The second time we had the kids pasta and kids pizza. If you're kids are fussy, or in my case have ARFID, they were quite nice for kids. It was a lovely looking hotel, if you're going to visit maybe try to go when they are not so busy or without children. We won't be going back again, the little things add up. Next year we are going to try somewhere else.

Me and my girlfriend stayed here a year ago and I have always mentioned it to my friends or family looking for somewhere to stay. We would 100% come back here. The room was lovely and it was quiet. Even though they were renovating the particular part we stayed in, the workers were extremely friendly and never worked early in the morning or late at night. The water park is lovely to walk around, and it is situated between 2 larger towns and the area has many restaurants and tea rooms which we investigated! I cannot think of a downside to our experience.

Stay well AWAY from this hotel! It does not meet 4 star standards by any means. We were really excited to take our kids away for a few days and booked last minute. Went to check in and kept being told to wait 5 minutes although it was 3pm which is check in time. Went to our lakeview room, overwhelming smell of cigarettes and dog. Only to find that we were placed in a dog friendly room withiut being informed and we suffer with allergies. Carpet was filthy, crumbs and sticky feeling, a layer of dust on the fridge, poo on the loo roll, Dried up dog poo in one of the bedrooms, blocked sink, a toilet which didn't flush and another toilet which looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a week or two. After lots of calling, (which by the way, you have to call several times before you get through to reception) and complaining the manager Ben, said there was absolutely no way of moving us but we could the next day, but not guaranteed a time! After lots of frustration and back and forth, it turns out there was a like for like room available, but Ben did not bother asking housekeeping to priortise cleaning it until i made a fuss! Eventually got to a new room, ( which I'm sure would not have happened had i not made a fuss) Smell was still there, was slightly cleaner, told no pets allowed in this room but still found dog hairs. The Valves on all of the radiators were broken so this meant it was boiling hot and did not swtich off. The staff member said they had checked it, and suggested we should sleep with the windows open. Little was he aware of the fact that our apartment had doors in the rooms and we have 2 small children so this is unsafe. So we basically had to have super hot uncomfortable night sleeps for 2 days. The Towels stank! My husband pulled a chair out to sit on and the wood came into his hand. The kitchen was clean ish, but cutlery had to run through the dishwasher as it was all still dirty. All in all, this place is a joke! Never ever would I recommend to anyone, it's not even worth the hassle for the view!

A long awaited birthday trip away was sadly a big disappointment. We arrived to a massive queue upon check in which took around 40 minutes to get our room. Having paid extra for a dog friendly room, there was no bed or bowl provided on arrival we had to go back to reception and queue again to ask for it. The bed provided for our dog was covered in stains and was not safe to use without covering it. The room smelt like damp with very old and outdated furniture full of damages. Water damages seen throughout the walls a ceiling. Dried dog faeces in the carpet. Cob webs hanging from the walls. Bathroom full of mould and limescale. Cleanliness was non existent. Perhaps we would have accepted this from a budget hotel but we paid almost £500 for a 2 night stay and expected a 4 star experience. It was not worth it at all. My partner was denied use of a towel for the pool and scolded by the receptionist at the spa (middle aged lady wearing a blazer) despite us paying for a treatment and booking spa use in advance. There were piles of towels right behind her. He had to go back to the room to use the bathroom towel. We are unsure why this discrimination occurred. We had pre booked a spa treatment for the final day, only to receive a call 20 minutes before the start time telling us they could not do it due to staff sickness. I asked what compensation could be given, we travelled 3 hours for a spa weekend away and it was our last day, the lady replied with "there is nothing we can do". Only positive is the lake view which is beautiful. But unfortunately could not recommend this hotel after the awful experience we had this weekend. Extremely disappointed and not to the usual good standard of other De Vere properties.

I don’t typically write reviews, but felt inclined on this occasion.. unfortunately not the greatest experience a roast platter and 2 soft drinks came to £71 to which we initially thought we’d been accidentally overcharged but turns out they added an extra discretionary service charge which is cheeky given we have to order at the bar.. the drinks were then bought out in plastic straw cups and only of small portion given the price. Aside from that it has to be said meat is great, vegetables are OK and potatoes were really weren’t good at all. Over all not worth the expense given other local options being near half the price.
