De Baga in Leeds

Good choice on menu with some interesting options. Food we ordered was delicious and not too heavy. Friendly and attentive service

TL:dr - if you’re vegan, don’t go to this restaurant. My partner and I went on Friday 26th, after it was recommended to her by her omni friend. They have 1 vegan starter (okra) 2 vegan mains, and boiled rice/poppadoms. And nothing else. So that’s what we ordered. This is a red flag to start with, as Indian cuisine has a tonne of foods and meals naturally vegan, just not at De Baga for some reason. The 2 curries came out to us quicker than the poppadoms - which was the 2nd red flag. Clearly they just have things pre made and microwaved in the kitchen. This is poor for an Indian restaurant where the prices suggest you should expect a freshly cooked meal. The lentil curry was more of a chilli than a curry, and quite tasteless. The chick pea dish however, was the worst curry we’ve ever eaten. Our glass of tap water had more flavour to it. We were so disappointed with this meal which unbelievably cost £50, we will never go back, and will tell all our vegan and veggie friends to avoid this restaurant (and it’s headingly sister) like the plague. Just dreadful. Go to Wetherspoons instead, you’re tastebuds and wallet will enjoy it more.

Booked a table for 2 on Saturday at 6pm, restaurant was quiet and seemed to get busy from 7 onwards. The place had a modern vibe, and is pleasant overall but didn’t seem as atmospheric as their Headingley restaurant. We ordered a chicken and a lamb curry, and a rice and naan to share. All tasted very nice, but there was a long hair in the chicken curry (which was removed from the bill without fuss). We also ordered a starter to come at the same time as the main but was served 5 minutes after which a little inconvenient. Overall an ok experience but probably wouldn’t return and would opt for De Baga in Headingley instead!

First time here and definitely will be returning! Everything was absolutely beautiful. Beautiful restaurant, food was amazing and staff were lovely.

We were looking for a fantastic place to celebrate my birthday and the reviews for De Baga looked great, so we booked for the Chapel Allerton branch. Well... to say we were blown away would be putting it mildly! The effort and welcome from the staff was incredible.. I was presented with lovely flowers and a card from the restaurant and a beautiful banner was above my seating area. That's even before we got to the meal! I've been to many restaurants, including Michelin star restaurants and so I feel qualified to say the food here is absolutely top notch also. Not just tasty, but artistic presentation matching the impeccable service. Seriously .. if you are looking for somewhere special, where you can dine and be treated like Royalty.. look no further! Thank you De Baga in Chapel Allerton, for an amazing meal and an unforgettable birthday. We will see you again soon!!

The BEST Indian restaurant I have ever been to and I highly recommend De Baga in Chapel Allerton! I informed the restaurant that it was my sister's birthday and when we arrived, they throughly spoilt her with flowers, a card. a birthday banner, complimentary prosecco and a birthday desert. It was such a surprise and they went above and beyond to make it an evening to remember. They even sang Happy Birthday to my sister! The cocktails were just delicious and the food was incredible..so fresh and beautifully presented with highly attentive staff. We will definitely be returning again this Christmas! Great atmosphere too 😁

I had the Konkani seafood stew, with rice and the Goan cabbage salad, (which is a really fresh and zingy style 'slaw) my partner had the mutton Curry. The food is delicious and a bit different from the normal 'curry' we go out for. The service was brilliant. Highly recommend.

We went soon after 5, because we know the restaurant is popular.Staff were very welcoming. I loved my starter - the first one on the vegetarian starters menu- crispy egg shapes with creamy savoury filling.The drinks were impressively served and there is a good range of mocktails and cocktails.We enjoyed our popcorn nibbles and 2 dishes with freshly cooked delicious naans. The restaurant has a modern and attractive decor and the staff were friendly and attentive.

Sunday afternoon visit. Other local curry place has massively gone down hill recently so we thought we'd try somewhere new. Nice clean place and attentive staff. Gave good information about what they have on the menu and good recommendations. Had the House chicken curry and Biryani. I often shy away from chicken curry dishes as the chicken is often dry as, but was pleasantly surprised. Great balance of flavour on both dishes. Good value as well. Will definitely be back.

The initial look of the restaurant is excellent. Staff were very attentive without being over baring. The stand out was, without doubt the food. Everything was well spiced without being too hot and all tasted delicious. It was lovely to see that thought had gone in to the wine list with a list that really matches the flavours of the food and equally as delicious. We will definitely be back!

I've been to De Baga a couple of times now. The staff are always friendly and polite. The food portions are a great size, especially the lunch menu. The dishes are great, very flavourful and fresh. I would happily recommend as a nice private lunch spot.

We were totally disappointed with this place at chapel Allerton , Leeds. We eat out a lot and particularly enjoy Indian food. They advertise it as contemporary Indian food, but our food lacked any authenticity or taste. The chicken chops was dry and flavourless. Apart from one chicken curry dish that tasted ok the rest were disappointing. It definitely has a good atmosphere, modern inside with attentive staff. The cocktails are an attraction but they have let the quality of food slip. Also, it is expensive and has small portion sizes. Even the Miniature portion of starters are £8 to 9 pounds. I don’t mind paying that if it’s worth it.

I had lunch here with a friend. The venue is beautiful with good back ground music. The staff were sparse and left us to it.. for too long. I ordered a meat thali and my friend ordered a vegan one, she received half the dishes to me and no dessert. The menu was confusing and no clear mention of what is vegan. My meal was presented beautifully and tasted lovely but some of the meat was fatty. After our meals we waited over 30mins before asking someone for the bill, there was no offer of drinks or a dessert menu for my friend.

Wow, a pleasant surprise. We were blown away by the taste and flavours. This is out first visit to De baga and we have tried many curry houses but this was well above what we expected. Amazing food and great staff. We will be back...

From start to finish the whole experience was fabulous, The staff were very polite, welcoming and friendly. Went for bottomless brunch with friends, the drinks were fantastic and food was the best Indian food I’ve had.Well worth the money and if I lived in Leeds...

Visited last night on a bust Saturday service and couldn't fault it. Excellent service with friendly chats with the owners. The Sev Puri starter was next level, and every dish full of flavour. Will definately be back to try more from the menu. Fantastic.
