Davy's in Camden

This place used to be fantastic two managers ago. Joanna was client facing: she was rarely seen inside the counter area, always out and about among the clientele, without at any stage being intrusive. She provided the spirit of the place, the friendly reassurance that the place offered not just food and drink, but also a Cheers-like sense of friendly belonging. The next manager, and to a slightly lesser extent the current one, wouldn’t begin the understand. They both spend more time behind the counter running the business without running the place! One leaves here without a sense that one has had a break from work, but if it’s only food I want, I’ll pack a lunch from home.

The best wine bar near Holborn. The service is always super friendly (though was especially good last night), the wine selection is excellent and the cheese and charcuterie boards are wonderful.

Having g booked the Cellars, apon arrival they were not open so we were ushered upstairs to what more resembled an extended off licence with small tables. Not quite the dining experience we were looking forward to, and given there was not one other customer, we decided to leave and eat somewhere more convivial.

Went to there couple of weeks ago with a group of friends. The bill we received had two extra glasses of wine we didn't order. We noticed it later, went back there, sent email to the manager who came back with an offer of a free bottle of Processo for our next time. But because of the overall bad service overall we received on that night we just wanted a refund. Well no one replied back to us on that.. Also waiting time for food on the random Wed night was 45 mins, then no one came to check on us for about the same amount of time. we asked a waiter to recommend us a bottle of light red that wasn't to expensive and she came back with a bottle of French Pinot Noir claiming that the price is "between 25 and 35 pounds", in reality it was 49£, so quite a difference especially having in mind that we ordered two of those bottles. So if you're going there, be prepare to wait long time, don't trust staff knowledge oft the menu and double check items on your bill.

I tried the wine tasting experience, Arran and his team were wonderful to work with. Joe who lead the tasting was knowledgeable and we had a lovely time, really good value and you get to bag a wine bottle at the end. I liked that the wines came from all over the world and they weren't just pushing their own wine like other experiences. I didn't try the food but would like to next time.

Excellent service, nice place, obviously great wine and atmosphere

We used their cellar space for our client facing Xmas party and it was perfect. They were really helpful in the build up both in advicing us and taking on board what we wanted to do. The drinks choice and food was great. And the service on the night was superb. Everyone enjoyed the night and we'll be back next year!

SIMPLY AMAZING! The atmosphere is great, staff are really attentive and the drinks selection IS 10/10, there is something for everyone here. Above all this the customer service is top notch! We forgot our bag- within a week, Arran had managed to find us via our company website through our name on the laptop in the bag we forgot. Everything was untouched and returned to us. You really cant find this level of honesty anywhere these days and so this was a truly lovely gesture of them. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Surprisingly, quirky Wine Bar tucked away in Holborn boasting a wine shop as well as selling cigars upstairs. We sat at cute Mediterranean Café Society style tables but downstairs there's a tardis like large seating area. The staff were super friendly and welcoming. They were so mindful of our particular needs this making the evening out really special. We now thinking of booking the downstairs area for a large wine tasting event with for our annual Christmas shindig. It just has enough of a personality to liven up jaded palettes. There's definitely lots to come back for. Thank you. And it feels like somewhere, that i as a woman, would be comfortable to go alone. I/We'll be back.

London has so many options when it comes to Pubs & restaurants. This is why service is EVERYTHING! I’ve been here on multiple occasions and there is always a friendly face to assist me, a wonderful selection of wine and beers, and delightful food that surpasses what you would normally get at a traditional pub. This place is clean with a spacious downstairs and it’s all thoughtfully decorated. Plus, don’t miss out on their Slow Braised Beef Bourguignon and mash—it’s a class apart!

The waiter informed me they have ZERO gluten free food options. This is clearly not true but they couldn't be bothered to try and find out. Felt very excluded. Service over all was pretty inattentive - didn't come to refill glasses or even clear the table. The wine was alright but not great. Wouldn't visit again.

I know this is London, but this is ridiculous. One glass of wine and a small portion of olives and almonds came to £28. Service was a bit slow. Mine was a table for one and the two chaps serving were much more interested in attending to the larger parties. You need a big wallet here. t

Was walking along the street and popped in found a lovely bottle of wine that I’ve been searching for. Went back later for a glass of champagne that the staff has recommend earlier that day. Lovely and cozy place. Great wine selection and good wine by the glass choices. Davy’s celebration champagne was lovely. Staff were knowledgeable and super friendly. Would go back every day if I was living in London

Realmente no me gusta este lugar. Como trabajaba con abogados, solía ir allí a menudo, siempre una decepción. La comida es cara, pretenciosa comida de pub. Las verduras y los veganos luchan por encontrar una opción decente. El servicio es dolorosamente lento e indiferente. No lo recomiendo a mi enemigo (aunque para los abogados supongo que está bien)

Bastante caro para lo que era y no era un gran ambiente para beber. El personal no era grosero pero no estaban atentos. Hay tantos otros lugares para ir en esa área, tal vez pruebe uno de ellos.

I met a friend one night after work. We used to go here all the time when we worked just around the corner. Having not been for so many years, we were looking forward to a bit of nostalgia but were bitterly disappointed from start to finish. It took at least 15 minutes to get anyone's attention just to order a drink. We ordered a side of the Artisan Bread and butter for the table which turned out to be lightly toasted sliced bread, with no explanation. After waiting another 5 minutes with no luck to get someone's attention, I went up to our waiter to ask why we had toast rather than the advertised bread. I was then told they had ran out of the Artisan Bread. When I asked if we could just have normal bread (rather than toasted), I was told the toast on our table was the last they had! The main course, it has to be said was delicious! Bangers and mash - a classic! Moving on to dessert! We shared a Treacle Tart with Clotted Cream. The amount of cream that was presented was a joke! Barely a teaspoon full. My friend asked about the portion of cream and asked if we could have a little more. He went to investigate. He came back about 10 minutes later with 2 bowls of coconut ice cream!! We then learnt that the cream already served was just double cream and not the advertised Dorset Clotted Cream as they had run out of that... and now had run out of the standard double cream!! It seemed that the kitchen just wasn't updating their waiters of what was being served or what was available to order. They also seemed way under staffed so sadly, on this occasion, I have to give a negative review. I will still go back to our other favourite Davy's Wine Bars, namely The Mug House in London Bridge, Davy's at St James and The Crusting Pipe in Covent Garden. We've not been put off completely :-)

Working around the corner and decided to get the “For one day only!” New Yorker as it’s Independence Day. It cost £16.50 which was a little much for what I had in mind However I’m extremely glad I had it. The meat was pink all the way through. Exactly how I like it. Topped with pastrami, cheese, pickle and some Russian sauce (nice touch in the current political climate) Dirty chips which had the perfect balance of cheese, salsa and pepper. Truly excellent. I didn’t give it a 5 as I never do.

On the recommendation of a family member who has visited Davys on many occasions we arrived about 6pm to an empty davys and asked for a table for 6 people. We were asked had we booked clearly we hadn’t as we would have given our name to confirm we had arrived rather than asked if a table was available. 5 steaks arrived and I feel it only fair to comment on my own meal. They used to offer a variety of cuts but only Sirloin is available now. It was a bit grisly and not very hot. The side dish of mash was barely warm and it took a long time to serve us all . The puddings were very nice ,offering a mini pudding and coffee. Having ordered I pointed out clotted cream should have been served with 2 mini puddings. We had finished our puddings and coffee by the time the cream arrived the sticky toffee pudding was consumed as it was getting cold . I would not return as meal expensive for what was served

I was here again for a business dinner. The place was OK but I was not impressed by the food at all. Drinks were fine.

Met a business friend here for lunch and we had a burger and a glass of wine. Wine was good as Davy's claret is a safe bet. The burger was very over cooked a bit dry and took quiteba long time to come despite there not being many peopl in the restaurant so a bit disappointing.

I know it's heading towards Christmas and I know places like this are busier than usual but we were only a party of five! Furthermore, at their request, we had pre-ordered our food so there was really no excuse, once they saw the whole party was there, to keep us waiting forty minutes for starters. Once it came, the soup I had was very nice - not outstanding but nice. The starters were cleared and we waited - and waited - and waited until we asked! Then the bowls of vegetables arrived. Then, several minutes later, two of the five main courses arrived. Then the three other main courses arrived - these three had all gone for the Christmas dinner. The sausage was good and so were the sprouts - if a little cool by the time I got to eat them! The turkey, if it was turkey, was tasteless and two of us thought it had been supplemented by pork. For pre-ordered food, that's unforgiveable as they would have known how much they needed. Plates were cleared away so quickly that no one had a chance for more vegetables - and we weren't asked it we'd finished, things were just whisked away from in front of us. The Christmas pudding wasn't bad but we had to ask for extra custard which, for the two of us, was served in a bowl the size of an espresso cup! Coffees were served in a most peculiar way (two cups) then the tray taken away to a side table and a third cup carried from there) and, when my colleague asked - on my behalf - where my coffee was, the waiter snapped "She's got decaff!" and stomped off. All in all, a peculiar experience - and one not to be repeated.

Ordered the steak burger which was tasty and cooked perfectly. Our server Elliot was very charming and friendly and provided great service. Thank you!

Sadly I have been compelled to open a trip advisor account to leave a bad review. I came to the bunghole after not visiting since March. The whole experience was disappointing. Staff were rude and dismissive, and the new manager on duty was more interested in being upstairs in the shop and not downstairs when I complained about over cooked steaks and under cooked sides. Sullen staff and a rude dismissive manageress. Won’t be returning and won’t be advising anyone else to either

This was the first place i ever eat in London and that was many decades ago. The staff really make this place. They are really helpful. The food and drink is reliable.

Gran ambiente, excelente carta de vinos y si quieres algo, eso no es en la lista de pop, arriba al tienda de vinos, comprar una botella y pagar servir licor. Sabrosos tentempiés y una buena relación calidad-precio para Londres. Me encanta Picpoul de Pinet, así que volveré.

Así que en este bar de vinos, se pone dinero en una especie de tarjeta de compra que después se utiliza para comprar copas de vino bastante bueno directo desde una selección de varios botellas fijo con tubos que el vino en su decantador de cristal. Los precios varían dependiendo de la calidad y hay que poner suficiente dinero en la tarjeta que se puede rellenar. En otros bares de vinos (Vagabond Vinos por ejemplo), si no pasar todo el dinero en la tarjeta, te dan un reembolso al final de la noche. No aquí la última noche. Es una estafa - podría haber unas pocas libras a la izquierda y volver a casa. Me dijeron que se puede utilizar como crédito, pero la próxima vez no habrá una próxima vez.

Well they don’t do plaice but I highly recommend the salmon and the sirloin steak, chips are great too, service is slow though annoyingly although staff very pleasant- if you’re in Holborn and don’t know where to eat I would recommend Davys if you aren’t in a hurry

The wine was good, with a decent selection of wines by the glass on the menu (at supermarket by the bottle prices). The food menu offered a good choice of starters, mains and desserts - they seem to aim at upmarket pub grub in the descriptions.

We went on a week day for lunch, so a quiet time which was just what we wanted. It was perfect for us. The staff stand out - they are discreet, polite, cheerful and super efficient. Great place.

Después de una hora de espera (en una zona muy tranquila, pero escasamente poblados tiempo lunes almuerzo), nos vamos. Nuestro camarero, en el bar, ya que dejar, por primera vez, con disculpas, "lo siento, no hay nada que podamos hacer". Popped in for a quick works lunch and were given a nice table for 10 in one corner. Service was good and everyones food was very good, the fish was huge and the hand-cut chips particularly good. Definitely worth another visit.

When entering the cellar by Davy’s wine, it’s not immediately clear where the restaurant is. It was also incredibly busy as there is a wine bar downstairs too. Once shown to the dining area, the service was pretty good. Food was well priced for the Holborn area, and arrived piping hot. Overall an inexpensive dining experience.

First off the name of this venue is not as advertised. It is Davy's. It made the venue hard to locate. Service was slow and overall the food ok but not out of this world. A little disappointing!

Very disappointed, 5 of us were there for my birthday lunch, 3 of us had the Sunday roast which consists of 3small potatoes which was deep fryer not roasted, the broccoli needed a steak knife to cut up and the gravy was brown water, some green beans and a few sliced carrots, all were bland tasting, beef was only just ok. £15.95 for 1course. The other 2 friends ate different food. But that was just ok as well. 1 Coffee came cold and took ages to come back with another. None of will be going back.

If you go to Davy Jones locker it means you are dead - If you go out with a lawyer it means either way you are paying for lunch. Lawyers are generally greedy people. They charge by the hour and eat and drink by the ton. They manufacture, create nothing and live off of other peoples misery. So do I like them? Best left unanswered - but I have to say that they sometimes make great dinner guests so long as (and you will be ) paying. They tell you all about their successes in court and how 'Me Learned Friends' are all 'fools' and Judges are all geriatric. So lunch is a kind of 'self appraise' moment for them to make you feel that £400 per hour is cheap. Those lawyers on £700 per hour would say it is - but for you (me) the poor sap paying, I could live very well on the difference! So whats this all got to do with Davy's of Holborn? Well I will tell you the secret to toleration of Lawyers in London - Go to Davys order a bottle of Moulin Rouge Haut-Medoc (now carefully de-corked after my comments to the waiter) and drink slowly. Order a plate of the King Prawn Tagliatelle with chilli and turn-off your hearing aids - Its great! Remember drink slowly -That pasta is great - the service is good and the surroundings are very 'Old England' and as for my legal dinner guest - He is still probably talking the hind legs off a donkey somewhere on his self absorbed mission - but I don't care I have now found Davy's !

Got in straight away without a booking on a Saturday night in December. We were at a table in a quieter area which was nice after a busy day. We shared the Davy's board and bread and hummus between three.

Went along for a Rhone Masterclass with a Master of Wine. The evening was great fun and very informative. The wines were excellent, especially the fabulous Condrieu. We really enjoyed the intimate setting which gave us the opportunity to have a one to one talk with the Master of Wine. We ate beforehand and the food and service were excellent as always.

Set inside the lower level of Covent Garden, this place has the feel of an outdoor restaurant. The highlight is the stream of incredibly talented 'buskers' who perform at the front of the seating area. From string quartets to wonderful opera singers, the atmosphere which they create is unique. Great wine list and although we only usually have drinks and nibbles, main meals look very good. Be prepared to wait for a table, it is well worth it!

前菜は７～８ポンド、メインのステーキはフィレで28ポンド。決して安くはないが東京で同内容の食事を、と思えばさほど高いとは思わない。そして熟成の赤身肉は、脂まみれの和牛よりもよっぽどおいしかった。ワインは酒屋直営だけあってクオリティの割に安い。こちらは東京よりはるかにお得。ビール+前菜+メイン+二人で赤ワイン１本で、一人当たり８０００円弱。レストランの雰囲気はいいのだが、バースペースと仕切りがないのでかなり騒がしく会話もままならない。とはいえ、店の方がかなり気を遣ってくれたので、少々なら我慢してもいいかなと思えた。気のおけない相手とならいいと思う。１０年前だと、レアで頼んでももれなくウェルダンで、パサパサのステーキしか食べられないのがロンドンだった。時代は変わったものだ。

In theory, this place has everything going for it - a great wine list, nice atmosphere and surroundings that are a bit better than the average wine bar/pub and the prospect of decent food. In the main, the food was good. The only issue was with the 'triple cooked chips' which accompanied my fish. The pale, rather soft looking potatoes on my plate seemed barely double cooked, let alone triple. When I mentioned this to the waitress, she said that they were 'cooked in a special way'. All I'd suggest to the kitchen is not to waste their time triple cooking because the result was no better than a lightly deep fried boiled potato. The main issue we had was with the service which was poor. The waiter was clearly inexperienced and seemingly very nervous. After our drinks order was taken, the waiter came back to let us know that our chosen bottle wasn't available, about 10 mins after taking the order. When the wine did arrive, after the bottle was dropped onto the table sending glasses flying (fine, accidents happen) I was asked if I'd like the bottle opened. Was beginning to question whether I'd be better taking the cork out myself as he grappled with the cork and corkscrew about 6 inches away from my head. Some time passed (about 20 minutes) and, the waiter returned to tell me that there was no crab left. Clearly, the kitchen hadn't looked at our order until then, despite there being very few people in the restaurant and even fewer diners. The last straw was when the waiter came back to clear the some of the plates whilst our companions were still eating. All in all, it was a bit of a farcical experience which let the place down.

Visiting Davy today had very good service. They are welcoming and friendly. The stake was good cooked and size was perfect, just right space for desert. Restaurant have good style late 1980, leather chairs and different types of tables. The stake knife was very sharp what is very important only think what I didn't enjoy was waiters short apron.Food, I order stake medium and it was perfect. Only missing some good decor. In the desert I had cheders chess and good Sandman. J.A

This is one of the chain of Davy's wine bars which in various locations I have visited for over 30 years. Seen one, generally seen them all-and that is a positive-in terms of decor and offering. The menu has grown over the years and though not long should give enough choice for most tastes. The wine list is good but I have actually never ventured far since Davy's Number 1 claret is always so acceptable.

The Cellar restaurant has been refurbished and is now smart with comfortable leather armchairs for tables for 2. First class wine list and good food - particularly the steaks. Good range of wines by the glass. Very friendly, efficient service.

I stopped by with a client for what we intended to be a glass of wine to celebrate a successful week, but ended up with a bottle of the sumptuous and rare Chateau Musar 2008 from the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon. It was one of a wide range of quality wines that are available from around £5-6 per glass; ours was considerably more and came with a delicious selection of cheeses and biscuits (extra).Davy's is a busy place in the evening, and usually filled with barristers, solicitors and clerks having a drink at the end of the week, but don't let that put you off. It is reminiscent of the wine bars that used to exist across London in the 1980s, all of which are sorely missed. The staff were efficient and knew about wine, so making a selection was easy. Seating is a bit limited, but these places usually are.

I walk past here everyday and it always smells SO good. Finally got to try the place when I came here with my work team (7 in total) for lunch.Let me tell you, I LOVED the food. SO good. Had the steak burger and brownie. I left extremely content with my meal. Had a delicious cranberry juice drink with lime to accompany the meal which was perfect.On the downside, service was slow. Waiting 40 minutes just for dessert to arrive. However, some concessions were made and I respect them for knowing how to look after the customer!Definitely want to come back in the future! :)

Looked from outside wasn't sure to go in or not but ultimately we were in. A great wines bar with wide range of collections, we two fellows enjoyed a lot and missed our wife's too but may be in our next London tour. Service was excellent with exceptional ambulance and loved those barrel tables. See you next time!

Don't be fooled by how quiet it looks as you walk in, downstairs is packed, the food is good and atmosphere excellent, I was there with 8 colleagues and we had good service, wine and food

Upstairs: looks trendy and nice but there is limited space and the barrel tables are very hard to sit at. So you have to go downstairs.Downstairs: generally very crowded which makes it feel raucous... and when it's not it lacks character. Offers nothing that a pub doesn't except bread and olives and an extra 30% on your bill. It's fine but there are better places.

Πολυ ωραιο περιβαλλον και ομορφος διακοσμος που κραταει την παλια αιγλη με την ατμοσφαιρα που προσφερει. Το φαγητο θαυμασιο και η εξυπηρετηση αψογη και φιλικη. Τεραστιος ο καταλογος κρασιων . Το ορεκτικο με σολωμο τελειο ,το ριζοτο με τα αγρια μανιταρια ισως το καλυτερο που εχω φαει και τα burger με κρεας,( καμμια σχεση με τα μπεργερ με κιμαδες που ξερουμε) τελεια και ζουμερα. Η πανακοτα ...καλη . Κατι που με εντυπωσιασε ειναι,οτι στο κηπο/εισοδο του μαγαζιου,υπηρχε τεντα με εξωτερικη θερμανση και τραπεζι,καρεκλες και τασακια για τους καπνιστες.Σιγουρα θελω να ξαναπαω και το συνηστω ανεπιφυλακτα.

Popped in here with my sister two weeks ago for some wine and a light bite and we really enjoyed it.The wine bar has a bunch of wines you can sample or have a small/large glass. It works similarly to an Oyster card where you top it up and it deducts for each wine.The wines are reasonably priced and there is a nice selection - the only thing that could make it a little better would be to get a few unknown wines from not so typical places (France, Italy, Chile, NZ).A couple of the wines ran out on us but the lovely worker would just top us up with a new bottle. We ate the crab toast and a cheese board - all great.The atmosphere, staff, food and wine were all perfect and very reasonably priced.This may become a regular!

The location in Holborn is good, half way between Holborn and Chancery Lane tubes, the food is ok, service is very good, but I've been there twice for evening work functions and didn't enjoy it. It falls between two stools, it's neither chic wine bar or restaurant, but is trying to be both. It's not especially relaxing for that reason, particularly as you're very aware that you're in the cellar of the building. The decor is pleasant and being Davy's, the wine is at a premium price. It has a very good wine list of course. It's just not that relaxing, a little claustrophobic, puts you slightly on edge.

This establishment is always reliable, welcoming and enjoyable. The wine, as you would expect, is excellent. Over the last year, I have enjoyed using this establishment on a number of occasions.Jo and her team are very attentive and accommodating. Nothing is too much trouble. I have used the venue for business entertaining and team lunches. If you asked for my wine recommendation, I would consistently suggest the following: Davy’s white Burgundy & Davy’s Claret Bordeaux Superiors.After tasting these bottles, I ordered a couple of cases on line for Christmas, very good value!The food is fine fair.I usually have a glass of the Burgundy with either a Chicken Caesar salad or Chicken Club sandwich. If you are on the red, Bangers and Mash or one of the succulent steaks usually hits the spot.I also recently enjoyed a couple of their Grazing Boards with a glass or two.Excellent wine, good food and lovely people. Booked on line and as they were quiet they decided to close the kitchen early! I booked after the kitchen was closed and they notified me when I was on the way Glad I didn't eat there. If they don't even know how to book a table who knows what the in restaurant service must be like

A business lunch with a customer; Davy's was busy but we managed to find a perch on the upper floor. Wine selection is, as one would expect, excellent. Food choices also very good and what turned up on the table did not disappoint. My steak was done as asked; good side orders all served promptly and, more or less, efficiently. I say more or less because, actually, the service could have been a little better. I think for the 10% service charge (discretionary) that providing napkins without being asked would have been good and also, on one occasion, a knife and a fork to actually eat!!Leaving that to one side - an enjoyable lunch in a busy, vibrant, restaurant.
