Hadn’t been here for a while and it was better than ever. I had a very nice fish and chips - the fish was served as giant goujons. My partner has a lovely smoked salmon. The menu changes daily and on a sunny day you can sit outside but there is some indoor setting as well. Generally only open at lunch times - and well worth seeking out

The nicest man in hospitality cooked me two of the best lunches I’ve had in years. It’s in a location that should guarantee failure for anyone else, but it’s not anyone else, and the food is immaculate. Chicken soup, ham hock and lentils, and my steak today was fabulous. Just superb and service you couldn’t replicate if you tried…. Thank you, David x

An experience that is more than a wonderful fresh cooked meal, its a deli with top class Spanish cheeses, oils and wines. We sit outside with a slow-cooked beef stew and watch the quirky characters all having a great time. The chef always welcomes us and will even give tips on how to cook paella rice. Really special.

Many of us were heart-broken when David decided to pack up his place in Harbour Street, and then pleasantly surprised to hear that the team had set up in the Old Coal Yard go back to their roots: the best ingredients; simple but exquisitely cooked dishes; great coffee and deli ingredients; and a bunch of folks as down to earth as you'll find anywhere. Just like others locking down in Whitstable over the past 18 months, we made this our destination at lunchtimes - occasionally taking the food home or squatting on the largely dishevelled, yet comfy garden furniture and soaking up the sun's rays. This place is special and like nothing else in town.

Booked the tasting menu for a 7pm seating, £80 a head on a Friday evening. They’ve been running it a while according to the reviews. Firstly, every single course was amazing. Ample portions, everything was fish based and the most perfectly cooked and prepared fish you could ever wish for. The highlight for me was the Dredgermans Breakfast - a warm oyster topped with bacon and seasoned to perfection! Very hard to find fault with any course though. However, the let down was the timing. For a 7pm seating, I’d expect to be out by 9pm. This wasn’t the case- the first 4 courses came perfectly timed, but after that it slowed to half an hour or more between courses. We left 3 and a half hours after the booking, which I felt is just too long. Anxiously looking at the kitchen doors, half an hour after finishing a course is too long! Such a shame as the food was amazing! I’d have really liked an explanation as to why it took 3 and a half hours, but they ignored me. No other reviews mentioned the time so maybe we got a bad night?
