I fancied some fish and chips so decided to pop in. Instead I get some muppet blocking the entrance while I'm outside freezing. It should be made more obvious that customers should stand aside so that more people can get in. I should probably have said something but the maybe the staff could have mentioned it? I don't have a car so have to get around by other means by walking or whatever so I was very cold and very hungry. I asked how long to do a medium cod and chips and the owner replied ten minutes. Rudely I might add. I point out that I was freezing and the entire establishment was disorganised. Instead of waiting I went over to Asda opposite, bought myself a pizza and saved myself five pounds in the process. £9.30 for medium cod and chips. Yeah no.

Absolutely Fantabulus chips !! Good food all around, highly recommend. Friendly staff, and a good price.

Ask him about the under the counter special sausages you will not be disappointed I gobbled it down like a £10 hooker in a rush to get the job done. The fish is also genetically modified fish but it’s banging, keep up the good work Dave miss your face

Always get a friendly welcome, conversational wait and huge portions at a very good price. I prefer these to any takeaway in the locality

I sat down tonight to eat my fish and chips and a short while after I started to feel a bit off, then stomach aches and then the runs. I am now sitting here, typing this review with hot flushes and a very painful stomach. I guess it was a bad night, because my one experience is just that. One experience. I've had food here in the past and it's been great, but tonight I feel ill and very, very ill. I've been in the bathroom, I've had to sort the mess out. I'm only writing this as a word of warning to others. Make sure that the food is hot. Ten quid wasted for food poisoning. Symptoms are nausea, stomach cramps and the runs. Bec careful please.

I have not been for quite a while. The last time was excellent - this time only just about average. Almost a tenner for large cod and small chips is seriously expensive. If the fish had been really large, maybe OK - but it was medium at best. Also, not particularly well cooked. There is no competition here and I fear that they have become complacent.

I have been coming here for years so I think that I am qualified to give my honest opnion about this takeaway. It's average at best, place is very cramped and is not the best place to go when it's busy due to it's cramped condition. That can't be helped but there has been confusion with people in the past. Questions asked such as are you waiting, where do I queue, where do I stand, go over there, no over there. With the whole lockdown situation we're stuck in there can not be any better time to have a clear idea of where customers should go and stand. Now on to the food. From my experience over the past three years it seems to depend on when you go which will determine what you get. Quality suffers durin the busy periods. So serving sub standard food for the same expensive prices but go on a quiet evening and you could get the mose beautiful battered fish with freshly cooked chips. The staff are friendly enough. Don't really talk much. I might get a hi how are you if I'm lucky but then it's, right what can I get you which is fine but sometimes Iike to valued I guess as a loyal customer over all these years and I don't feel very valued I guess. The staff are frinedly enough but the place lacks atmosphere. Overall the food is okay. Nothing mind blowing in regards to taste, it's just okay. Good quality fish most of the time but I do believe that it really depends on when you go there. When the staff are on the ball you're guaranteed a qualty product. I like the place, I like the food but I wouldn't go out of my way to go there because as I've already said I think that it's barely average.

Everytime I come here it seems that the staff are incapable of following instructions, or doing basic tasks like accepting a payment. This place is a joke and is one of the most badly organised places I have ever gone too and yet people still go there to stand around in the car park for ages. Maybe you should get more organised. Maybe you should listen!!!!!Now on to the food. The food was alright. It was greasy and a bit undercooked bu the taste was good. You guys are charging ridculous prices and you don't deliver. The food is bad. Now don't get me wrong it's edible sure but there's nothing about it that makes me want to come back. Batter was overcooked, the fish was thin, the chips were a bit undercooked, the staff were clueless and I am sick of dealing with the place. There's no professionalism and I end up disappointed and annoyed. When people are hungry they don't want to be messed about. I want people that can follow instructions. Got that. I want to order food as painlessly as possibly. I order something, you understand what I am saying and then I give you money. Simples. Other businesses manage to do that.. It's called customer service. You make an effort and the customer gives you money, you make sure that the product is good and the customer gives you money. Do you people understand?To sum up the food is below average. Greasy, tasteless, the staff is completely disorganised. It's chaos.Go there in the evening and see. See for yourselves. It's just a nightmare. You guys are a joke.

This is my first time at this chippy and it will be my last I had fish witch was terrible no taste batter was cooked to much and the cod must of been on a diet it was that thin When the girls asked for my order I asked for the mushy peas all over my chips and all they did was dump it in the corner of the box and they also asked me if I’d like salt and vinegar well they must get it free because all I could taste was vinegar and when I complained about it it was like world war three Anyway they took it back and all they did was get a spoon or something and pushed the mushy peas that was dumped in the corner over the rest of the food So all in all for £8.40 it was rubbish and not worth the money Very poor service and very bad food and I would not recommend them to anyone

Tasteless and waited twenty minutes for it. Food is overpriced, greasy and tasteless but it's not always like that. It only happens when it's busy. Rushing to fill orders means that the quality suffers. I have a stomache ache, the batter was awful, the chips were tastless and the fish didnt taste of much either. All and all very dissapointed.

Don't go on a Friday night whatever you do. Picture the scene of about twnety people standing in a car park. They can not keep up with the orders. I shoul have just got a pizza from over the road instead. I am angry and I am sorry that I am angry because the food is great. Lovely fresh fish most of the time and lovely chips most of the time but from my experience tonight I do not want to put myself through that again. I was very tired, very hungry and I struggle with my health a bit. Hunger makes me angry maybe I've got hypoglycemia perhaps but tiredness and hunger and cold weather does not me any good when I could have bought a pizza from the shop in less than a minute. To make matters worse the quality deteriotes as orders are being rushed. I had to ask twice where my order was after waiting for goodness knows how long. I am fed up and I will not be coming back for a long time. My advice is the business needs somewhere bigger because they can not cope and they had made that clear by the shocking display tonight. Get it together.

Beautiful fish and chips, enough said! Came here on recommendation and was not disappointed, all served by 3 very friendly and helpful girls. Oh did i mention the portions... wow Dont try anywhere else!

Always have great freshly cooked food. Some times have to wait a little while if they're busy but it's always worth the wait. Those serving are really helpful and obliging. Thankyou BB

Lovely little chippy. Always good service, good quality food and decent portion sizes. Kids are always pleased. Much better than any Callington or Tavy chip shops.

The food is great and the staff are always polite and welcoming but when it gets busy and you have one person making three or more orders that's when the problems happen because you have staff scrambling to try and fill three or four orders coming from one person. I really think there should be a better system in place because I was really annoyed. It was dark, it was raining. I was only wanting a medium chips and because of these people ordering for their entire family it makes smaller orders take around fifteen minutes in some instances. The prices I think are also quite high. Maybe if they were not so high I wouldn't have felt so cheated. Apart from that it's a great chip shop. Just try and avoid on a Friday night unless you want to stand around for twenty minutes.

Sorry maybe it was a bad night but did`nt enjoy the meals we got from here maybe its different down there plus we our Spoilt For Choice sorry Dave but you know what we scousers like pity the little Liverfool flag in the window but i was the only blue of 5.

I usually go to Tavy for fish and chips but tried Dave's for a change.Chips were awful. Pale soggy and undercooked. My son ate about 6 and they went in the bin. Small portion of curry sauce that spilt everywhere because the lid wasn't put on properly. Really disappointed.

We regularly get our fish and chips from Dave's. Always fantastic and huge portions too. Fast and cheerful service.

We live in Callington where we have a Fish & Chip shop and a mobile van that visits on a Thursday... But we would rather jump in the car and go to Daves a few miles up the road as their food is lovely... always great portion sizes , value for money, friendly staff and lovely clean premises.I would highly recommended a visit to Daves

We used to live nearby but sadly moved away. So nice to pop in when passing and pick up the best fish and chips in Devon and Cornwall. Nice friendly service tops off a great experience.

I really don't understand the rave reviews on here because this place for me has been very hit or miss. I live locally and sometimes the food is beautiful. Lovely batter, reasonably priced, polite staff. But then there are times where the staff just could't care less, you end up with overcooked batter with tough and chewy fish and greasy undercooked chips and to top it all off I've now got a stomach ache. What it the point of standards if you can't keep it up consistently. You have lost me as a customer and I won't be returning. Sorry.

Waited 'til we'd tried this place several times before posting this as I wanted to be sure that the quality is consistent. It really is a very good chippy - the food is freshly cooked, the fish is fresh and cooked properly with beautiful crispy batter. There is a good choice of other takeaway items and the service is prompt and efficient. There is no 'eat in' facility - it really is a traditional takeaway chippy but one of the best I know of.

Called in to Daves's for a takeaway whilst on holiday in Calstock. Quick service and decent meal. Recommended.

Recommend for a real fish and chip experience. Fresh fish with not too much batter. Go for small portion of chips as that will be more than enough.

Been here couple of times since moving to the area last year and delighted to find a proper fish and chip shop..like they used to be! Be advised though the Medium chip portion is huge! We made the mistake of ordering one portion each ...one between 2 of us would still have been plenty. Chips taste lovely and fish is moist, haddock is particularly good. Nothing fancy here, but it's good honest chippie fare. A bonus for the area.

I really don't get all of the positive feedback about this place. The food is bad. I'm sorry but it is. The fish and chips in particular is so greasy. The prices are also a tad high for a medium fish and chips. I could cook better food from the local supermarket. The food is bad but the staff is plesant. The menu is also lacking as there doesn't seem to be a huge variety of foods. You have the usual pies and such, but that's really about it. You only have to look at the photo. Look at how greasy that food looks.

The fish and chips from here are lovely, if we get a large portion of chips it feeds 2 adults and 3 children you get loads, food is freshly cooked. It is mentioned as a restaurant but it is fish and chip shop

Dave's is my "go too chippy" I always travel from callington to here even though I have a couple of chip shops in walking distance. Be prepared for a bit of a wait some nights as he gets busy.... fair prices good food...

On a recent stay in Gunnislake, we visited Dave's for fish and chips. Wow. I had a large cod and chips and the wife had a small fish and chips. The large would have fed both of us, you get a lot for your money. The batter on the fish was a little soggy in places but the fish was lovely. The chips were beautiful and not too many tiny rock hard chips that you get elsewhere. Great place to go if your hungry.

We arrived for a takeaway to find the que outside the door which is always a good sign.The portions are big and good tasting,the batter was golden and crisp,the chips were cooked to a good standard and good value in price.We traveled from a nearby town where the chippy is not so good or good value,we will from now make Dave's our local chippy,proper job.

Love Dave's! We always go there when we want some fish and chips and so far no disappointments. Good chips, battered sausages and some quality fish. Add a pickle and your having a feast :)

Visitamos Dave hace un par de años, mientras que en vacaciones fue genial buena porción, precios razonables y bien preparado. Fuimos de nuevo a mediados de marzo de 2017 y quedé decepcionado con la calidad de las patatas fritas en particular - aspecto y sabor como el aceite utilizado era muy viejo.

You would have to go a long way to beat Davis chippy, the portion sizes will surprise you. There is not facilities to in, it is a take away only 👍

Friendly family run chippy. Always tasty and plenty of it. My local and glad of it. Next to Nisa store and petrol so if travelling can get the family and car topped up!

Stopped off and noticed Dave's place so thought we would try the chips. We were astounded at the portion size. No words can describe how tasty these were. wish he was closer to Plymouth or did delivery haha. We will return when in the area for definite. We actually brought a portion home, reheated them and had them for tea and they still tasted great. Thanks Dave

Just right on the flavour not to greasy & plenty on the portion! Was busy when we visited on a Tuesday evening used well by the locals & plenty of friendly chat & banter. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a quality chippy

Amazing fish and chips! Perfect chips if you're fussy - soft but crispy. Generous servings and good quality. Expect a queue on certain nights but service is quick.

It is easy to be misled at this excellent fish and chip shop because where the menu states " large" it really does mean a very largeportion indeed. Brilliant .!!
