Darwin Brasserie in City of London, Westminster

I have booked the venue at Darwin's brasserie to celebrate Christmas with my son's family who were visiting me from Netherlands. What a disappointment... Huge money but no service for it. We felt very unwelcomed there. The waitress was passively aggressive, the food was made yesterday... It looked like they didn't care about customers - they were just a cash point for them. Even though that the view through the windows was good - it spoiled all the experience... Never again.

We had dinner at Darwin Brasserie on a weeknight. The setting is exceptional, the view is superb and the restaurant is very pretty. Unfortunately, as is often the case in these kinds of places, you pay for the setting. The place is very busy and therefore very noisy. The cocktails are outrageously expensive (£18), served in a glass of champagne 3/4 full, and are not particularly good. The dishes are not bad, but again, much too expensive for what it is. For example, we had a pear crumble for dessert which cost £11. Some pieces of pears were not cooked and the crumble was just a powder. We were charged £3 for tap water and £6 for standard bread. Finally, added to an already hefty bill are the service charges of 13% of the bill, which the waiter asks us to pay in cash... Bad luck for him, we didn't have any . Regarding the waiters, they are very nice... even too nice (he asked us every 10 minutes how we were). At the end of the meal, he gave us a card to rate it, explaining that there was a competition between waiters for the scores (this explains it...). In conclusion, I recommend this restaurant for dining in an exceptional setting. However, you should not expect great cuisine or a quiet place. Still, it's a fun experience, except for your wallet.

Starting with the views, the place is already enchanting, but the entire experience was wonderful, the food was exquisite and the service unbeatable, especially that of Ashwin and Richard who were our waiters!!!

My dear culinary fans, I will start with positive notes before focusing on my specialty which are the pastries/confectionery and desserts which were not up to par (of the tower) this evening. We opted for the tartare and the Darwin burger, which were simply divine accompanied by an overpriced Burgundy but which revived our taste buds. Now for the not-fun part…dessert. We all chose the chocolate mousse and I can tell you that we were big on the potato. From the first bite, we immediately wanted to hurt ourselves. The chef should be ashamed of offering such a mousse to chocolate experts like us, yes we are Swiss so what! We are demanding and there is no need for that. Shocked disappointed but hey we stay standing with a lump in our stomach. Natoo waitress at the top!

Easily up there for one of the coolest places I've dined in. The Sky Garden itself is beautiful and you can see all of London from up there. Service was absolutely stellar. Sruthi was a saint in directing us on the menu and providing exceptional service. 3 Stars is really because aside from the Atmosphere and Service, I didn't think the food was very great. The Goat Cheese tart was pre-prepared and would've done well to be heated up (the crust was brittle and cold). My entree, the turkey, wasn't anything special and underseasoned as far as I'm concerned. The only real redemption was the sticky Toffee pudding which was incredible. It really made the meal and was clearly the best item I ate. If I came to visit, got a dessert, looked out the edge, and enjoyed company, this is a 4 or 5 star, but the food is expensive and not anything special.

What a fantastic evening my wife and I had at the Darwin Brasserie sky Garden. It was my wife's birthday who was buzzing from the whole experience, made even more special by our waiter Telmo who was absolutely brilliant and a credit to the restaurant.

Overpriced and manager was rude. 3 course meal costs £80 for adults and £22-£23 for kids. Plus service charge on top. We were 2 adults and two kids. I wasn’t hungry and wanted to order something small but was required to order 3 course meal. Also they didn’t accept cash at the end. Food was nice though. Just they are very inflexible.

Recommended! Beautiful views (as long as you avoid the fog) and good food, which of course you have to pay well for. We had breakfast here and then there were fewer people inside, so we escaped the queue downstairs. Set aside time to see beyond London's skyline in 360 degrees!

An amazing location and we felt totally at ease bringing our two children here. Not at all stuffy or pretentious. Dealt with my youngest child’s allergies brilliantly. Thank you to Telmo for his service!

Some of the most expensive food you’ll buy but it’s unfortunately absolutely rubbish quality - bland and tasteless. The sort of quality you’d get at an average hotel buffet. Spent 30 pounds a head and the porridge, muffin basket and coffee were particularly awful. Just go up for the view don’t bother dining here

We had breakfast in the Darwin Brasserie and reserved a window seat for £20. Our waiter Telmo Berges said it was the best table in the place and we couldn't agree more. We had a corner table and therefore had a great view of London. Unfortunately it was a bit foggy. However, the tables could be a little larger. We chose the breakfast menu and the food was pretty tasty. We had the Full English Breakfast and Eggs Benedict. The eggs were really perfectly cooked. The only drawback would be the baked goods, which weren't really anything special. The hot chocolate was the best in London so far! Our service was really wonderful, Telmo went to a lot of trouble and even took photos of us. We had a very great experience with him! The prices were okay for London and the location, since you are also in Skygarden. The extra cost for the window reservation was expensive, but since it's London that shouldn't ruin our trip.

This was one of the most overrated and expensive places I have been to in my whole life. We made brunch reservations at 12 and by the time we arrived, they were already serving lunch but still calling it brunch. I was completely disappointed by this and the fact that we still had to order three dishes and pay a fixed price. The presentation of the food was nice but nothing was too delicious, everything was subpar for such a location and such a price it was very disappointing. There were no drinks included in the price of the brunch which was another disappointment. In the end we had a huge bill for an extremely mediocre experience. The interior was also very chilly and didn’t have the cosy brunch experience at all. I wouldn’t recommend going there for food.

The food is subpar, to be honest, and lacks flavor. You would think the view is included in the price, but apparently, it’s part of the ‘discretionary’ charge. Expect a noticeable change in attitude from the staff at the end of your meal if you question the charge, even if you’ve only had one dish with no drinks. The service feels overdone, as though it’s more about formality than genuine hospitality. Honestly, it was quite a shock for me as a visitor from Australia, especially for things that are so basic. I would not recommend this place. As others have mentioned, don’t fall for the tourist trap—there are definitely better options nearby.

We were very well received at the DARWIN restaurant, great food and perfect service, especially the waiter Telmo (Portuguese) and Feliciana (Brazilian) who served us cordially with great affection! The food and drinks were great, loved the vegan cauliflower dish! I had a fantastic cocktail, and views from the window were nice. However it's a bit weird that you are not looking out directly, but that the restaurant is in the middle of the sky garden and there's a distance between the restaurant windows and the large outside windows. Service was fine, but the restaurant was very full and therefore super loud, with music playing quite loudly as well. There was barely any separation between tables and for the prices, it felt much more crowded and loud than it should.

I had an amazing experience at Sky Garden - Darwin Brasserie where I celebrated my birthday. The atmosphere was simply spectacular, with breathtaking views of London. The service was impeccable and the staff extremely attentive and friendly. The food was delicious, with exquisite dishes and well presented. Everything was perfect from start to finish. Highly recommend for any special occasion!

The staff are adorable, very welcoming and available. The setting is exceptional. It was our best time in London, really. The restaurant is located in the Sky Garden, so you have free access to it. Just remember to make a reservation (and ask for a table by the window). I recommend with your eyes closed. Thank you so much for this wonderful moment 🫶🏼

We reserved a table by the window, but it's a bit too energetic here that you can hardly enjoy the night view outside which is not what I expected. Foods are acceptable to us, but nothing really impressive. The small Christmas tree on the table is cute.

A real must-see during a stay in London. Little tip: remember to book well in advance, as this popular establishment attracts Londoners and visitors alike.

Nothing to say about the location, it is beautiful given the place where the restaurant is located and the view it offers. However, there are some negative notes: there were three of us and the round table was not large enough to contain the menus and dishes, this is inconceivable to me for someone who orders a breakfast costing 30 pounds each. Managing spaces and being careful that things don't fall to the floor is an inconvenience. Furthermore, the waiter was a little too pressing, giving us assembly-line times to decide and did not warn us that the water had to be paid for as an extra perfume. This made me feel more like a tourist than a customer. Too bad for the potential this place represents.

It was a great evening with a unique view and good food. Unfortunately it was a bit loud and it was difficult to understand the service. You should reserve in advance, especially if you want a window seat.

It's a nice place to dine in especially if you have any occasions to celebrate. The staff which was tends to us , Alex was really helpful. He made sure that we were comfortable with everything and made sure the food in the menu was suitable for us.

Went for brunch and while pricey it was one occasion I can say you get what you pay for. Going as a couple you are more likely to get a window table ( or can pay extra for it) since the group tables are in the centre of the room. Our eggs Benedict and florentine dishes were both excellent with very nice and attentive service. If eating you get an easier ( less queue) entry since you have a reservation time. Views are stunning. Even in winter, sunglasses recommended for morning. A defo must do at least once on London visits.

Went there for breakfast with some friends visiting London. We were waited on by Andrea, who was very welcoming, friendly and accommodating. We were also catered to with one of us being gluten and lactose intolerance, by ensuring no contamination and proving alternate milk.I will definitely visit again.

We had booked a table on the day for 4 people for drinks as we had a lunch reservation after. After booking and giving my card details for the cancellation fee, we then received a confirmation email saying that we had to order 1 main course per person. I explained and showed to the manager that no where during the booking process did it say we had to spend a minimum on food, and that we just wanted drinks. He then proceeded to spend 5 minutes searching on his phone to show me it says it in the FAQs at the bottom of the website. He then said if we were to cancel we would still have to pay the cancellation fee of £25 per person, and so we were essentially forced to eat. Disgraceful hospitality, we felt uncomfortable throughout the entire meal, and the food quality was poor. It needs to be much clearer when booking a reservation that there is a minimum spend on food.

First time for me at Darwin brasserie. The service was great and the view was outstanding. The food dishes well presented and tasty.. however I found the pork chop a bit salty, perhaps because of the gravy, but apart of that everything was yummy. I was with my girlfriend, I wanted to take her out for lunch to celebrate our 4 months together. With Max help, I've managed to get a table next to the window with an amazing view. We ve had several waiters but all of them very friendly and professional and surprisingly most of them originally from my country ( Romania ). Andreea surprised us at the end when we received the dessert and on the plate was written " Congratulations" The all experience was amazing and I would definitely recommend it 😊

Such a lovely picture place to go for dinner. We had the festive menu. I had the goats cheese and mushroom tart - it was nice but a lot of goats cheese (bit too much for me but that’s a preference). I also had the Sea Bream and Sticky toffee pudding which were nice. The roast turkey was amazing and so was the basque cheesecake. Also the cocktail options were great. Fantastic views and great atmosphere.

Our waitress was so kind and welcoming, really made it a wonderful experience for my Mum who had been looking forward to her first visit to the Sky Garden for a long time. Excellent service and the food was very good too.

Good evening everyone, The place and the view are breathtaking! The cuisine is simply a delight... Until the dessert... I would have liked to throw my chocolate mousse from the 35th floor. As a good Swiss it is unacceptable to eat such a thing. Thanks to our waitress Natou who served us good wine. Message to the cook... if Jessy catches you you're going to have a tough time!

We had a reservation for a birthday with champagne and a 3 course meal. The food was okay and the ambience was great, but the service was really terrible. The service was unfriendly and seemed disinterested even when we wanted to order drinks. The knife for the steak was more of a child's knife and was not exchanged even when asked politely. (We would have already been brought a “sharp” knife) The SERVICE fee of almost €30 is an absolute disgrace, especially after this service. We asked for the bill several times and ended up having to wait about 40 minutes for it. To then charge a service fee of almost €30 for this is definitely inappropriate. Never thank you again.

The food is good but it is very expensive. 2 second courses, 2 desserts, 2 glasses of wine, 1 water, 95 euros each. Definitely worth seeing the place, the visit is wonderful, prepare yourself psychologically about the food first

Just perfect. The very welcoming staff, mainly the waiter Papa who was very attentive to our needs and friendly. The dishes are very good from starter to dessert without forgetting the setting. The price is well worth it.

Fantastic breakfast from the a la carte menu. Charging nearly £5 for a small pot of tea was a bit rich but overall the bill was just about value for money given the quality of food and location. Not worth paying the extra for a "window" seat given that the restaurant is actually located in the centre of the building and therefore quite a way away from the true external windows.

We booked for breakfast. This was our second visit, and we were not disappointed. This is a real treat for us, and we were so well looked after...our coffee cups were never empty! Staff were extremely attentive and helpful. We will be visiting again.

I am writing this review for others , with a bitter taste left from the appalling experience my friends and I endured at your establishment on 26th November 2024, 9 PM booking. Our evening was marred by heinous service and horrific customer service. It quite frankly beggars belief that your establishment so drastically misses the mark compared to other dining experiences I've had. To put it into perspective, I regularly dine at Shard's restaurant, and never have I ever been subjected to such dismal service. To make matters worse, the steak I ordered was unpalatable. A regrettable decision indeed. Your waiter's behaviour was the cherry on top of a disastrous cake - a candid display of rudeness that was borderline offensive. In the simplest and most British terms, your establishment is a colossal cock-up. I strongly urge anyone reading this: DO NOT WASTE YOUR DAMN MONEY AT DARWIN BRASSERIE.

The steak could be much better for the price. But is okay. Service was great, Telmo was super friendly, professional and very helpful pleasure to have him. Atmosphere was great as always except some noisy people siting next to us.

Unfortunately the experience was not up to the expected standard, it’s a complete mismatch between price and quality. The price per person was the level of the premium restaurant, however, the quality of food was average, let alone the visual appearance of the chipped tables, disposable napkins, thick champagne glasses, etc. Felt like a tourist trap, which happens to be overpriced due to the location. Service was not bad.

Due to a train problem I arrived late but I called half an hour before and they managed to change the time for me. Very friendly staff also excellent service. The only flaw is that from 11am you can only order lunch and there are no desserts... but you can put together an aperitif or a light meal without any problems! The view is excellent. To reach the Darwin Brasserie when you get to the 35th floor you have to go up the stairs and find the lift to the 36th floor. There are no signs, so I thought it would be easier to find it.

Great place to go for breakfast with a view. 36 floors up overlooking the Thames. Service was spot on and the breakfast was very good. The views were spectacular from so high up and you could spend time walking round the Sky Garden afterwards.

Where to start… the view is incredible and that’s the only thing that does the job The rest is tourist traps. It's not a brunch, it's a normal menu, the food isn't really good, there were several errors in the service... On the other hand, the bill is as impressive as the view

This place is really worth it. Best time to go is early at 4:15 so you get the golden hour. You can stay till 6pm. The 3 course menu is worth the £79,50 p.p. Quality is delicious. We had the hot and cold salmon for starters, delicious Xmas plate with turkey, stuffing, roast potatoes, sprouts, pig in blanket. And get the sticky toffee pudding!!!! Our server John made our evening special. Thankyou!

Excellent service, attentive, fast. Very tasty dinner, that mix of flavor. The meat is so tender accompanied by that bed of potato/kale. We chose a window, but the views are not what we expected. You visualize the sky bar on the ground floor and after yes, London but without the expected clarity.

It has been a charming place thanks to the views and the treatment we have received, above all we would highlight Telmo Borges, who has received us and looked after us incredibly well.
