Dartmouth Castle in Hammersmith and Fulham

To the manager. Last week, my friend was over from Spain, so we decided to finish off our day out in Fulham with an open table visit to the Dartmouth Castle. As we were a party of six (including my 12 year old Son and my brother), we paid two separate booking fees of £6 to acquire the 50% First Table food discount. Rather than being deceitful or misleading, we openly stated that we had booked two tables and could we sit on the centre table of 6 (this was free, unattended with no prior booking). The young lady who spoke to us said that this would not be possible and if we wanted to sit together on this table, we could not use the First Table discount. Rather than cause a fuss, after some discussion we agreed, although the two allocated tables were on opposite sides of the room. Subsequently, my son and I sat almost opposite the bar and my friends sat on the other side of the room. It ruined the evening and rather than put us near enough to have a chat and enjoy our meals, the decision appeared punitive and unnecessary. Furthermore, the booked table next to my friends moved upon their arrival and there was also a table on the other side, therefore, we could have easily sat next to or close to our friends. Why not offer this option to us also? The only saving grace was the good food and when we finished our meal, we did indeed move to have a brief chat with our friends and my Son's Uncle. Whilst I understand that First Table only states 2, 3 & 4 persons, if people are honest and reasonable, why not also be reasonable. And to add insult to injury, whilst we were in the restaurant from 6.15pm until around 7.45pm, the centre table was still empty!

Nice place, just came to have a beer and some chips which where very good, and served with mayo and ketchup without asking which was a nice touch. Decent selection of beers, classic largers, Ipa's and more to choose from, nice atmosphere and had some nice artwork of the local area up inside. A bit on the expensive side but not exorbitant.

Good weekday lunch options, with generous portions. Sausage penne is a staple.

Everyone at the Dartmouth Castle is cheerful and attentive, the food is fine – and they're happy to take your picture if you ask them.

Lovely staff and a nice old pub feel and style. Food was extremely overpriced and my main course was swimming in oil and very disappointing. Nice ice cream though. Really such a shame that the food was not value for money as the staff were lovely.

We went for a Sunday roast late afternoon. It was really quiet at the time. The food was excellent and the service great. Overall we found it a bit pricey but good quality.

The music is perfect, as is the atmosphere and the interior: exactly what I expected of an English pub. The food is good but the menu has a flaw: they don't serve fish and chips or savory pies with meat. Other than that, I found myself very well, I recommend it.

The Tuscan Sausage dish with Mash was very nice, it comes with Caramelised Onions which add a sweetness, needed something green on my plate though..

Went here for Sunday roast with family. Was really disappointed that they don’t have any vegetarian roast option (a simple nut roast would have been fine, like many other pubs have). They’d even stopped doing a chicken option when we visited, so there was only beef or pork. I don’t eat red meat so was particularly disappointed as was looking forward to a roast dinner. In a city that is so progressive with food and with an abundance of choice for vegetarians and vegans, I was surprised that here they don’t have any non-meat roast dinner options - they don’t even have a non-meat gravy. I ended up ordering a roast without the protein, and persuading them to put a bit of grilled chicken on the side. Then I went back home, made my own vegetarian gravy, then came back. Is it really that hard to have a few nut roasts and some veg gravy granules in the kitchen? Also, other veg or vegan options on the menu are very limited, with not a single main suitable for vegans. It’s a shame, as I would otherwise have come back with a group of friends next Sunday; but one is vegan and another is vegetarian, so definitely not even an option.

What a great find! Loved the staff - so helpful and friendly. The food was absolutely delicious and it was brilliant value. I will definitely come back.

really nice pub just a few minutes walk from Hammersmith tube. Down to earth place and vibe to it with excellent quality interior. The staff working there were really good and looked like they actually enjoyed being a part of the place. I took my wife there and we had an enjoyable time there. Lots of chatter and no loud music, its a good pub and one of the best I have been in. Hammersmith has a lot of pubs and this one is well worth a visit.

I was informed that the veggie roast, which included the same amount of veg/potatoes as the meat one, was £20, compared to the pork one being £21 and the beef one being £20. I explained to the waiter that I felt this was unfair, and they were unwilling to consider my side. Bearing in mind that the veggie roast was not on the menu, therefore the £20 for some veggie and potatoes was picked from the air. Finally, the waiter said that they could do it was £18, which I reluctantly agreed with. When I paid, the waiter then stormed off without saying thank you or anything - highly ignorant! I went up to him when we were leaving to remind him of the importance of manners, and he again seemed disinterested in considering this. I will not be returning and I would consider vegetarians to do the same.

Really disappointed with the experience here. 6 of us visited The Dartmouth Castle and were very happy with the food. One of us is vegetarian so got a roast that consisted of only potatoes and vegetables (they had no main substitute for meat, no nut roast option). This was not on the menu, so there was no price at the time of ordering. When we went to pay, the potatoes and vegetables dish was listed as “misc food” and was charged as £20, bearing in mind that the pork roast was £21 and the beef roast was £22. When we asked the first waiter about this, he was polite and understanding and said that he would speak to his colleagues. When he came back and said there was no changing it, we asked again and explained it was unfair for it to be charged as such. We were then met with a very rude member of staff who was unwilling to consider our point of view. He had a very strange and dismissive attitude and made us feel uncomfortable. When we paid for the food eventually after a dissatisfying renegotiation of the price to £18, he took the payment, and walked away, without a word. We explained afterwards that we felt he was rude and he responded with “okay, thanks”. The food was lovely, but the unfair price we were charged for this dish and the rudeness of that waiter was totally unacceptable.

I was very ill after leaving - suspect fish products fried in same oil as chips. This was not on allergy information. I always inform staff I am "intolerant" to fish/seafood and as I was having a burger and chips I didn't think it would be a problem. The person with me had the same food and was fine.

Really lovely pub with a great atmosphere. We ordered the £9 cheese plates which were great value and so tasty!! Bottle of red at £25 is good value for London and it was decent. Staff were lovely and I will definitely be going back.

Great location a short walk from the Hammersmith Apollo. Lovely pub and all our meals were delicious. The lady behind the bar was very friendly and although very busy (I think she was on her own) was very speedy as well. She was taking food orders from the tables as well as serving behind the bar. We did not have to wait long for the food.

We had the penne and the ravioli. Both were absolutely delicious. The lady serving us was extremely nice. We strongly recommend this place.

The food was very nice. The staff were very helpful. We found the pub too cold. We asked to move next a radiator. If we couldn’t sit by the radiator we would have had to have gone somewhere else it felt that cold!

We had a very nice meal before going to the theatre. Lovely setting and the staff were very pleasant. Drinks were a bit overpriced and the ale wasn't clear so had to be changed, but that was done without a problem. Would definitely go back if we were in the vicinity.

Stopped in here as part of a trip down memory lane and was thrilled that I did. The pints were quickly delivered, and the food arrived fast and hot and very tasty. The pub itself is a bit of a barn but if you can grab a table, it’s a great place for a drink and food.

Pleasant experience at the Dartmouth Castle, had dinner on Saturday and lunch on Sunday. Both days the food was excellent the staff friendly and overall it was a good experience, would recommend.

Lovely cute pub, very quiet. Sunday roast was nice but no Yorkshire unless you paid extra, no cauliflower cheese side order option and pretty pricey overall at £21! Staff were nice, just seemed to lack atmosphere!

As soon as we walked in we were taken care of by friendly and helpful staff. It's a busy venue but run very well to keep things moving, and the food is fabulous. If you're off to the Apollo then I recommend you start here.

We were going to a concert at the the Apollo and thought the reviews and the menus looked good. We weren’t disappointed. The young man who served us understood that we needed to eat fairly quickly as we were running behind due to major train issues and our meal came very promptly. I had the scallopine milanese chicken and my husband had the bavette steak and they were both excellent. There was a good selection of wine too. Sadly we didn’t have time to check out the desserts. We will have to come back again!

The staff are really nice, quick service, clean, comfy and cosy - decent pub for a birthday or Christmas party. Would love to try the food in future, next time!

We were going to the theater and this place was close. Very unassuming inside but don't let that fool you. Food was excellent 👌 and innovative. You should definitely come here whether or not the theater is on your plans

Nice little spot for a cheeky drink after work. My friend ordered the pasta and I had the chips. Pasta was delicious, chips weren’t great to be honest! Staff friendly and attentive and a great selection of beers too

Lovely food, clear break away from the classic pub grub. Some books to read and chill and the penne ragu was just delicious. Wasn't busy for a Friday night, but can see why getting a seat on Sunday will be tough. Would def go back for the food and the good service.

Excellent Sunday Roast, Pork belly with crackling was right there. Beautifully cooked veg (Carrots in rosemary and honey?, Tenderstem broccoli, potatoes, Mash, gravy) with a generous portion of pork belly and crackling and tasty apple sauce. Will be back and recommend. The seating is cozy, plentiful selection of drinks.

This is probably the best pub in London if you wanna have an amazing meal! Everything was excellent, options were plenty and the menu is updated quite often. Beers were also great, of course. Service was top notch, we will most definitely come back!

Your staff are so kind, helpful and happy. It makes such a difference walking up to a bar and the person serving you greets you with a smile. There was a lady that came onto her shift around 4:30, and she was so lovely to deal with and it made our experience so much nicer as we were entertaining clients from abroad and they actually commented on how nice it was to get good service. What ever you do to keep your staff happy, keep doing it because it makes a huge difference.

Excellent food, very pleasant staff. However, on arrival I was offered a terrible table despite having booked for dinner 2 weeks in advance. The outside table was wobbly, on a steep slope and in no way big enough to accommodate 2 people eating, as there was simply no room for plates and drinks. Meantime pairs of drinkers were sitting a picnic style tables for 4. After hearing some very unconvincing reasons and making a fuss I was moved to a suitable table and we enjoyed our meal but it left a sour taste & that familiar feeling that managers routinely shove older women onto the worst tables.

I would love to rate this place higher but their food and drink prices are sooo expensive. Burrata appetizer is 10£. You literally get cheese, bread and tomatoes. Calamari is 9£ and you get roughly 6-7 small (small!) rings. Food is good, but not great. Very small portions. The outside service is ungodly slow. You're better off going inside for ordering and paying. Guinness for £6? Yikes!! Just know before you go..

Arrived 5.45 to pre booked table received food nearly hour later Burgers were so dry we couldn’t eat them when asked if all ok we said no and the waitress and person behind bar seemed unsure what to say or do so we paid and left!

Really lovely pub tucked away from the main bustle of Hammersmith slightly. Food was delicious, leisurely service (which was a positive as we didn't feel rushed through anything and were having a good catch up) - our waiter was also really lovely! Would definitely come back!

£16 for this dish + Coke - EXPENSIVE price for a not cooked food - please avoid this place.

Sunday lunch - we have been many times and always had a great time. Planning to return soon to hire out the upstairs for a family party. I would really recommend the Dartmouth

Eat here before going to Lyric Hammersmith. Easy booking, lovely menu, delicious food and good beer - Timothy Taylor Landlord - my favourite. A relaxed ambience and a lovely way to start the evening.

Excellent pub food. The steak, pasta and Caesar salad we had were all wonderful and the sticky toffee pudding was nice as well.

Despite being obviously understaffed the team at the Dartmouth Castle provided an excellent experience in both food and service. I feel for all these wonderful places operating with wholly inadequate numbers of staff

We booked the function room with our own private bar and access to the stereo system for an engagement drinks party and they were absolutely fantastic in helping us set up and the whole evening went smoothly. Staff were really kind and helpful! Very accommodating!

Italian dishes were excellent. Service could be more careful and attentive. Had a bowl of sides split across our table with no apology or offer of a replacement.

Great food and atmosphere. Bit loud on arrival but it quietened down. It didn't distract from the tasty food we had. Also dog friendly.
