Danny's Fish and Chips in Croydon

Been using Danny’s for many years and being a coeliac I need to be sure I eat safely ! Never have I been poorly or been disappointed! Just tonight 7th June 24, I had fish and chips to die for ! Superb meaty cod and crispy chips ! Thank you Danny & Co.,

We used to get fish and chips from Danny's on a regular basis as it was always good , stopped about a year ago and used a couple of other chippy s . So last night decided to give Danny another chance as was passing close by , Sorry Danny the large cod's we ordered were both very thin and the batter was over cooked so fish inside was very dry , chips were over cooked too dried up totally unenjoyable £26 , I'm happy to pay that for decent fish but that was not enjoyable at all . Sadly we definitely will not return to Danny's ever again .

Danny's has become a firm favourite with my elderly parents. It's one of the few fish and chip shops that doesn't give them indigestion!!!! Dad no longer asks me to stop and get fish and chips. He asks for "A Danny's". I strongly recommend the haddock. Portion sizes are large. My parents happy share a medium chips, and there are still a few chips left over. It's a family run business and everyone is so friendly in the shop. If you are looking for a takeaway on a Friday or Saturday, I strongly recommend calling in advance and placing your order. Fish very well cooked and fresh. Not oily, just crisp. Chips superb. Gherkins fresh and crisp with a lovely bite Staff extremely friendly and helpful

Never disappoints time and time again! Being a coeliac the Fish & Chips are the best around, never have I had an upset tummy ! Danny & his team are attentive to your needs and nothing is too much trouble

This has to be the best fish & chip shop in Surrey! Exceptional service from a family team and the food made to order. I don’t know how they get their chips to taste so fabulous but let’s all hope they never stop. All the fish are delicious but if you fancy a change I would highly recommend an egg burger.

I have been here A Few times over the past month, and what I can say is that the food there is Top quality..The Chips Are warm and have a great texture, The burger that I had was also done very well, Would deffo recommend To Anyone Passing through Coulsdon, or any residents in Coulsdon, Danny And His team are also very welcoming And chatty..

Totally underwhelmed by this plaice 😳 Fish nice but £9.50 for a large cod and the Chios tasted like warmed up dinner time chips - they were all small and crunchy - we definitely won’t be back …..

Lovely food and a warm welcome. I've been using Danny's for a few years. The staff are lovely. Since the pandemic I've taken to phoning my order through. Danny always has a quick chat and is so kind. Saw him today with a new member of staff, a young lady. Danny was so patient with her. A great place for a youngster to learn good customer service skills. The food is so good that even my mum loves a fish supper from here, and believe me, she is a hard person to please!

Danny’s fish and chips are top notch. Even better is the fact they offer gluten free options which are really good and they take allergies very seriously. Best chippy around!

Been using Danny’s for as long as he’s been there! Before being diagnosed as coeliac I used to have normal fish and chips ! Then thank god Danny started doing gluten free on a Monday and because it was so popular he does it 6 days a week and I am so grateful I live on the door step to delicious good 👍🏻

Well I must give a massive SHOUTOUT to Danny and his team - Anil, Nursen, Pat & Jo. They are all amazing and we travel around 6 miles because they really are that good. Both my Husband James and I are high risk and in the shielding group, so after months of being cooped up at home, we really missed fish and chips. So I rang them placed my order and gave the time we would arrive and they bought them to our car which we parked outside. We ate them in the car, quite romantic in a way and I must say the burgers are to die for. My hubby just adores the cod. The team at Danny’s made things easy for us to have a treat and it may not sound much to some but for us it was and is very welcome. Four chips, one haddock, one pie, two sausages (one battered, one plain), two battered mars bars, two battered creme eggs. One happy dad, one happy mum, two happy children.The best feeling in 7 weeks. Chips very crispy on outside but melting in the middle. Haddock very fresh tasting, batter very crisp and light. We decided to go into dans for some fish and chips, just ordered one large portion to share as Fish was a fair size with loads of chips, we were hungry but this was enough for 2 people

Everybody raves about this place. Maybe we were just unlucky, but I thought the chips weren't cooked enough and some were slightly hard in the middle, so I reserve judgement!

We worked it out the other day - I have been using Danny's for over 20 years - the food is consistently excellent - good fish and love the chips. I am astonished that people find the portions small as my wife and I generally end up with a 'Big Fish and Chip Baby' Danny and the team are always welcoming, if you are a regular be prepared for banter but also know that Danny can take it too. Seems to be Danny's Dynasty there at the moment with his wife, son and daughter working there. Plus loads of batter and chip elves behind the fryers.Prices are about what I expect to pay for good Fish & Chips - obviously over the time I have been going things haved moved on from 1/- 9d for a portion of chips (just joking !! :))

When you fancy fish and chips, there's only one 'plaice' that springs to mind... Dannys! We had chips and cod, fresh and cooked to perfection. They just about everything you'd associate with a fish and chip shop, the service is second to none, they know their regulars and are friendly to everyone. Over the years we've mentioned when we were unhappy, they take board feedback positively, with an immediate change - there's a reason why their reviews are excellent, Danny's are simply the BEST!

We've only been going here for a couple of months, It's the best for miles around and they even do gluten free which is great for my wife as she is coeliac, all thew staff are friendly, the portions are big and all cooked to order with very little waiting time, It's well worth a vist, we travel 20 miles a round trip, you won't be dissapotined, 5 star plus.

Last week I drove from Caterham to Hove after a recommendation for gluten free fish and chips. Today I walked to Danny’s and it won hands down. Not only fabulous gluten free fish but quite simply the best “normal” fish, chips and mushy peas that I have experienced. Rich, golden batter, dry not greasy, same for the chips and hot tasty mushy peas. And a warm welcome to boot. Thank you Danny.

Me and my partner went to Danny’s for Lunch. What an amazing treat, the fish burger was 4 portions of small cod in a bun and was absolutely delicious.

Well if you fancy fish and chips don't go anywhere else, Danny's fish and chips are amazing, You will be welcomed by Danny, Anil, Pat and Joe. They are all friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much for them. I have tried the Cod, the Rock and the burgers and let me tell you nothing has disappointed. You can order with confidence and know that your food will be amazing. The fish is skinless and the batter is light and everything is tasty. We usually eat in and as there are a few tables inside and on a hot day you can sit outside. I notice a lot of the customers are locals and that says a lot by the amount of repeat customers they have. I cannot recommend them highly enough and they deserve every success.

This is the greatest fish and chips I've had in my entire life.

Average at best chips are usually bits and not very nice. They do burgers as well these are okay, fish is also okay.

Often get various sausages and chips for workmates on a Friday lunchtime. Everyone always compliments how great their food is. One of my favourites is curry spring roll. Staff are always friendly and up for a laugh - always see them get on well with young, old, middle aged folks. Very much recommended. Won't date go anywhere else and to think I have to drive past 4 others to get to this one.

The best in the area, The haddock is brilliant, always cooked fresh to order with a nice light crispy batter. The chips are perfect and with a large selection of other foods and different fish, you just can not go wrong. Although we usually have the takeaway, you can also sit in and eat. Top staff as well, always friendly, chatty and the star of the show "Danny" always makes you feel welcome.

Every time I come to Danny's him and his staff/family are always very welcoming. Always make sure I'm happy with the portion sizes before wrapping up the food. Always looks after his customers. Food quality is amazing. Glad I'm so local to the best chip shop in the uk

First of all - going into this chippy is like stepping into someone's house, well not literally but the welcome you get! Danny, his wife, son and staff are all so friendly, they know pretty much everyone in the community and the welcome is superb. Danny and gang give back loads to the community, helping with charities and making donations , he's a real figure head and deserves to have a thriving business - it's truly give and take here.

Danny is the most welcoming person I have ever had the pleasure of meeting! His customer service is more like being welcomed by a close friend or family member. He has so much time for my son who has difficulties and even when they are busy find time to talk to him. The whole family feel of rye place is superb and each member of staff make each and every person feel welcomed.

The food is first class, a great variety, well priced and always served with a smile from Danny and his family. There is also no shortage of food provided as Danny always asks if he is giving you enough prior to wrapping them up. the chips are either over cook or recooked as was the fish, was inedible, portions are tiny for the money you pay and they owner was very rude and nasty when I tried to talk to him about it ...… never going back

After a long day at work...I thought I would stop off and treat myself to a Cornish pasty and chips...well the pasty had hardly any filling..due to being over heated and the chips also seemed like they had been cooked several times,and an hour or so later after consuming this fayre ...I had an upset stomach.

I have been visiting this fish and chip shop for many years. I live by the sea on the East Kent Coast and am lucky enough to eat lots of freshly caught fish. However, I often visit Old Coulsdon and Danny's fish is so fresh. The batter is crisp and never greasy... the chips are always lovely too (never soggy). Also the curry sauce from Ireland is rather lovely (not made by Danny, but it really is worth a try!). Also, you can pre-order your food if it is a large order so that you don't need to wait. Fabulous service, very friendly staff.

My wife Jennifer and I heard about a great fish and chip restaurant in the Parade at Coulsdon so we paid it a visit. Well it was the best that we have ever tasted so we have become regulars. All the staff were welcoming and very friendly and the place is spotless. There is seating for 12. All the fish is skinned and the menu is vast and easy to read. This is a great family business and well worth a visit.

Heard so much about this place and everything I heard was spot on the most friendly staff and omg the food was out of this world the battered pigs in blankets are so so good and this was the biggest surprise I was recommended the battered mince pie not only were they correct but it was by far one of the moorish things I have ever eaten to say I will be going back would be an understatement even just to chat to the owner such a great thing to find great food with better staff

The staff here are very friendly, helpful and fun. The fish in batter is great no matter if its, cod, haddock or other fish. There is a good selection of foods here with an option for gluten free batter. Chips are great and I highly recommend them.

I live in Central London and every time I visit Coulsdon I make every attempt to eat at Danny's. Tonight my wife and I had a takeaway which supersedes any of the London fish restaurants. Amazing value for money and the best fish and chips I have ever had. Although they were busy Danny his wife and son made us feel very welcomed.

Regularmente para conseguir mi pescado y patatas fritas de Danny's, es muy bueno. Normalmente es ajetreado, pero eso es una buena señal. Muchos empleados, así que no tienes que esperar mucho tiempo.

I was walking home from school and went to buy some chips, i asked to have some ketchup and he very rudely kept on asking for his money like he was desperate. Then he had the cheek to say to me ' you know you are aloud to smile.' I was shocked especially when he looked miserable himself. If I was with someone else he wouldn't dream of saying that. The chips was good however you will never see me in there again.

I was staying at the Coulsdon Manor Hotel nearby and as I'm not one for eating at the place I'm staying at, I'm so glad I took the short walk to Danny's. It had good reviews so I just had to give them a go. Large haddock and small chips. It took me the walk back to the hotel to finish them, and despite the freezing night, both myself and the food was nice and warm down to the last chippy chip.

We had a lovely fish and chip supper from Danny's. The curry sauce is really good too. My husband had the grilled halloumi which went down a treat!

The chips are brilliant. The fish is decent (not amazing though). I read that this place won an award for the best fish and chips in the country - not deserving of that but probably the best fish and chips in coulsdon.

The food is good, but could improve a little. As it is close to college it sometimes gets busy with college kids, behaving quite badly. Takeaway works much better. Chips are fab, but fish could be tastier.

I have been getting take out from Danny's for years now, lovely family run place. Danny himself is always a laugh and never seems to in an off mood, food is always great and never left waiting long even with long ques, tables inside make it nice and relaxed giving it more of a cafe feel than just a que and leave type of affair! Can't wait for my next visit now!

Well the title says it all. Used Danny's for several years now and nothing but perfect fish and chips. Family run with a friendly service. Highly recommend!

The large cod and regular chips were cooked fresh in ten minutes. The cod was in crisp and tasty batter, even without skin but so fresh it tasted of the sea and had big flakes, not the sad skinny fillet one normally gets. the chips very tasty. It was £7 to eat indoors at one of the three small tables for two within. (There's a park opposite and St John's Church yard if need be). Dannys is on the 466 Bus route from East Croydon by the stop Tudor Rose Old Coulsdon. Its a half hour or so on the bus. There are glorious walking trails nearby (happy Valley, Coulsdon Common, New Hill, Foxley Wood) and after five miles at nearly 2pm this was a cracking lunch.

There is always a queue at Danny's which is a great sign.The night that I visited I had to wait while they cooked my cod and chips.It was well worth waiting the food was really good,nice and fresh.

The food made me ill and when I tried to complain the small man (think it was Danny himself) was really rude and threatened to ''Take me outside'' if I didn't leave and then again threatened me if I parked anywhere near his shop '' even though it was public parking. Don't risk this food unless you want to be ill or be threatened.

Best chip shop in the area. Staff are great, food is cooked fresh, chips are brilliant.... Whole heartedly recommend.
