We were already apprehensive about our stay at Danesfield House Hotel & Spa due to the lack of communication prior to arrival. We had called a month in advance to book a couples massage and were told this would be fine and that we would receive a call to confirm payment. However, no such call ever took place. After weeks of trying, leaving voicemails without anybody returning our calls, somebody finally answered, and, to our dismay, informed us that a couples massage was no longer available. This was very upsetting, given we had previously been told our booking had been confirmed and that we would receive a call to make a payment over the phone. The only option, now, was to book two individual massages - which was not honouring our original agreement. However, after reluctantly agreeing to this, we were then called the next day to be asked if we minded moving the timing of that appointment! Apparently they prefer to arrange everything so it suits them. We, the paying guests, were inconsequential it seems. Now to our stay. Upon arrival, we were due to receive a bottle of champagne as part of our package. However, we did not receive it. Instead, we had to request it the following day where it did finally accompany our dinner. Had we not pushed on this matter, that bottle of champagne would have gone elsewhere (as I suspect was always the plan). The room that we were given was adequate at best. Mindful that we had not selected to stay in one of the more luxurious rooms, I was still rather alarmed at the exposed wall plugs in the bathroom where the radiator was noticeably coming away from the wall. There was also paint peeling off of the window frame in the bedroom, and all of the complimentary biscuits to accompany the teas and coffees were completely crushed. The other issue was that we were woken between 5 and 6am during both mornings of our stay by very loud footsteps and noise coming from the area above our room. Again, I am mindful that we hadn't chosen the most luxurious room, but the entire proposition is a 'luxury break' as you will see from their marketing literature. This was not supposed to be a Travelodge experience. At the end of what was supposed to be a relaxing retreat, we were not in the mindset to complain, but upon reflection, we think you should know that it was a disappointing stay. There were a couple of members of staff who were helpful and lightened the experience, but on the whole the customer service was not on a par with the experience that is portrayed by their website. We gave our feedback to Danesfield who did offer a complimentary night's stay, however, we weren't able to take this offer up for a while due to work and life commitments. When I did finally get around to organising our return stay, a member of staff rather abruptly told me I couldn't have it anymore! Nevermind then. I'd have been less inclined to write this review had they honoured that arrangement, considering there was no expiration date accompanying that offer.

Stunning location and hotel. Very friendly staff and amazing service. Good breakfast with many options, even for people who have allergy or intolerance. Our room for 2 nights was cosy ...very cold in the afternoon as the central heating starts at 5 pm so we had to ask for a small heater. Unfortunately, we haven't slept very well because of the noises during the night (people stumping their feet and going up and down the stairs at 2am). Very nice and clean facilities (gym, pool steam room and sauna).

We had such a gorgeous time staying at Danesfield this winter. So much so we ended up extending our stay. The building is gorgeous - old but well maintained. The spa is lovely. The service is super friendly and attentive. And the overall vibe is just so relaxed. It's exactly what you want from a couple's mini break. Ellis, Adam and Willow looked after us brilliantly. We can't wait to return again.

The perfect choice for an overnight stay and a little dose of luxury. It’s a beautiful venue and every member of staff was brilliant. Highly recommend a visit!

I organised a private event (surprise birthday) at this hotel and it was excellent. Vicki (Meeting & Events manager) was very responsive and she helped with a couple of small bespoke requests which made the event extra special. Vinod (banquet manager) on the day was excellent and made sure it all went off without a hitch. All other staff were very friendly and accommodating. Rooms were lovely, and the spa is a nice addition - though more loungers on busy weekends would be appreciated.

A lovely and well equipped hotel, set in beautiful surroundings. As far as amenities, the hotel is certainly four-star, with a price tag to match. However, what let it down is the level of service. Normally I would not be concerned with such things but when you're paying almost £500 for a single night with dinner and breakfast, I expect better: - I paid £50 for early check-in. On arrival I was initially told my room was not ready. Then after around 15 minutes I was escorted to my room but told I didn't have a key card due to an issue with the machine. When I left my room to get something from my car I had to then hunt down a member of staff to access my room. This was a minor inconvenience that I'd let go if I wasn't charged an extra £50 to check-in early. I even mentioned this to the staff on check-out and they made no attempt to acknowledge it - The breakfast was overpriced considering what it was and the level of service (which they also added to the bill). 22.50 for a cooked breakfast where I had to remind the staff twice about my order. Again, small things but not given the premium the hotel is charging. Would I return? Perhaps, if there was some kind of promotion but given the overall cost, I've had much better stays and service at other hotels.

Popped in for afternoon tea at this stunning country house. We were a little early so took some time to explore the wonderful grounds and work up an appetite. Glorious views across the Thames and gorgeous location. Now onto the afternoon tea. The sandwiches were amazing, the cakes were divine and to top it off, the freshly baked scones were simply fantastic. I thoroughly recommend a visit to sample this. Just utterly perfect.

Horrendous place. Do not stay here. Dated, dirty and appalling service. 20-30 years ago it may have been okay but not it is disgusting and I would not have my dog stay here.

Danesfield House and the spa were absolutely beautiful and we had a wonderful time at my sister's wedding. Our room was perfect and the staff were lovely. Breakfast was disappointing though. First morning my husband's cooked breakfast was brought while he was still eating his porridge. The second his porridge turned up after his cooked breakfast. The whole experience was very chaotic.

Beautiful hotel and grounds, lovely food in the evening restaurant. I would recommend the restaurant for dinner. For a hotel stay and spa visit, absolutely not. Staff are rude to customers and to one another, seems to be tension between the teams, we raised some issues but management doesn't want to take any responsibility. He even ran away from our conversation and did not come back as he seemed scared to speak to us and deal with it. Very strange atmosphere which ruins and otherwise beautiful place. Young girl on the spa reception doesn't seem to know what she is doing. Cancelled our couples massage (that was booked 2 months ago) proceeded to charge us anyway, then blamed us for not showing up on time and refused to refund us. It's all very strange. Feels like visiting Faulty Towers... Update: In addition to your response George, we have tried to resolve this in person twice and on email twice to Alex who I am told is your general manager. No one has resolved this or bothered to respond hence I am writing our experience here. Which seems to get a response, albeit with false information. Wishing you a good day.

Please go there once in your life. You wouldn't want to leave. It's tranquil and serene. Staff is great and with great energy. We will return soon. Maybe, even get more friends to join us. We booked the spa for the whole day. It was the most relaxing day in 2024. The restaurant is amazing. Food is great. Pricing is very reasonable.

A really lovely spa break at this lovely hotel. We booked on the spur of the Moment . Easy to reach from London . The grounds were beautiful. The terrace with amazing views reminded me of Beaverbrook (but half the price yay). The staff were lovely and helpful. The spa was great and the pool a good size . I think my only criticism was the price of the breakfast at £25. I don’t eat alot for breakfast - happy with toast and coffee. I felt a bit pushed into booking the BF as it was far from anywhere BUT I didn’t actually ask the team if I could just have that , and as they were so lovely they may well have said yes . Also the coffee in the room was Nescafé which I’m not a fan of. Next time I’ll bring my own coffee , and yes I will go back it’s a great place If you can get room 101 or 102 definitely go for it!

Lovely views and very calm peaceful surroundings, Danesfield is full of old world charm and character. On a previous visit we had been very impressed by the atmosphere, ambiance and the food offered. I was really looking forward to my mother's day treat on a Tuesday after Mothering Sunday (on which I had been at work). Myself and three daughters arrived for a pre-booked tea and after being re-directed by the two young women at reception, found our way through to the conservatory area. Another very pleasant young woman showed us to a table with lovely views and found a high chair for my 11 month old grandson. We ordered the full afternoon tea which was sandwiches, scones and cakes supplied with our choice of teas. After delivering our food and tea we were left to enjoy. Unfortunately the sandwiches whilst fresh were rather dull, egg with a cress garnish, ham and mustard, cream cheese but no cucumber and brioche buns with coronation chicken. The brioche buns needed more filling as they were very dry, otherwise they might have worked better. The very best were the rye bread with sour cream and smoked salmon, absolutely delicious. We were able to request some more hot water to replenish our cups and continued. The scones were excellent both plain and fruited, slightly warm and with plenty of clotted cream. The jam was red but had no evident fruit pieces and reminded me of the mixed fruit jam of yester year! With the plethora of fruit conserves available nowadays, I would have thought a real jam or conserve would be possible. The cakes were very pretty and dainty. Tiny pink macarons, a very rich chocolate slice, something with an orange coloured glaze and some small round chocolate cups with a very peculiar bittersweet flavour. It would've been nice to know what we were eating but no staff were in evidence. We kept trying to get anyone passing to assist but to no avail. Some other people seated at the next table seemed to be having some problems with their order too so maybe there was an issue in the kitchen. Once we had finished we wanted to settle the bill but had to go through to reception in order to find anyone to assist. I have no particular desire to complain because this was a gift from one of my daughters to her mother and sisters, but she works very hard for her money and I feel in this instance did not receive the best value for it. I realise that staffing in such establishments is challenging nowadays and I'm not critical of the young woman who did serve us, she did her best in the circumstances. It seems to me that there is a problem with the management, ie there did not appear to be anyone managing the situation or the staff. Whilst I have no desire for constant attention, I do feel that regular checks on customers needs are important.
