While staying at the hotel we visited the restaurant for an early evening diner. The view over the golf course was magnificent on a sunny summer night. The hake was very good, well presented and service was excellent. The prices were also reasonable. I also love their coffee.

My friend and I booked a spa day here with lunch and were definitely not disappointed! All of the staff were very helpful, discreet and just all-round lovely. The relaxation room is fabulous, as well as the pool/jacuzzi. I didn’t use the sauna but the steam room here is AMAZING! We each had a massage; mine was hot stone. Best massage I’ve had! Felt sooo relaxed afterwards, will definitely be returning. We had lunch here too, very nice! Our day passed so quickly, wonderful experience.

We'd been to Carnoustie before and thought that we'd maybe stay sometime so we popped in for lunch with a view to having a look around. Our lunch was excellent - served in a beautiful lounge overlooking the golf course - spacious and airy. We were fortunate enough to have the services of Rebecca - who took the time to show us a room and give us lots of useful information about the place. Given our experience we'll be back in future for a longer stay.

Smallish menu, table of 4, everything we ordered was okay but wasn’t overly impressed at standard of cuisine, don’t think it was 4 star. Nice enough but nothing special. Ordered fish & chips, salmon & 2 veggie burgers (which they need to work on, was more of a vegetable moosh patty on a roll). Waitress forgot to bring my G&T at first order, so it was 40 minutes before I finally got a drink. Very apologetic, but still, def not 4 star standard.

When we arrived it took a while before we were seated and even longer before anyone came to take our order. Breakfast consisted of a selection of cereals, fruit, cheese etc and there was also a selection of hot dishes on offer. We opted for the full breakfast and to be honest were really disappointed by both the portion size and quality of the food. We expected so much more from a hotel of this calibre.

Enjoyed a very good meal in lovely surroundings. It was surprisingly busy on a Tuesday evening but service was excellent. What impressed me most was the fact they were able to offer my elderly mother a half portion and only charged half price. It is rare to get this level of service in a restaurant of this standard. Also, without us asking, the server swapped a chair with arms from another table for my mum's comfort.

Monday evening dinner. Restaurant was quiet, only part of it was open. Promptly welcomed and shown to our table which overlooked the first tee.Menu has a reasonable selection of starters, mains and puddings.Although not normally a great fish lover as I was in Scotland I decided to bite the bullet and have the salmon. It was delicious. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the flavours coming out from the rest of the dish were complementary and superb. My wife had the Cesar salad and considered it to be OK.For pudding she went for the profiteroles. Five very large ones arrived, full of cream with plenty of of sauce. My summer pudding was not a summer pudding rather a selection of berries stuck inside something that looked and tasted like damp cardboard. They do a good coffee. Service was very good

Staying for the third time in the hotel, this time for a family celebration. I booked dinner with a little hesitation. We were arriving late evening so decided to keep it simple. We were efficiently shown to our table with a smile and a cheery word. Always a good start. Staff were really pleasant throughout, well done them.Breaded mozzerella and scallops (not together) were among a decent choice of starters followed by fillet of sea bass, a chicken and chorizo salad with crisp leaves and a good dressing made for interesting mains. Everything cooked well and served quickly. Not fine dining but not microwaved pub food either. A very pleasant surprise. As I said a few weeks ago about the hotel, if you're in Carnoustie, why not give it a try? In other news, breakfast was much improved over our previous visit and though our standard room was a little small, who cares when you're overlooking the first tee at Carnoustie?

Each morning the dining room was incredibly busy, given the number of people we experienced no problems with service. Our evening experience was a mirror image, no problems with service, the menu offered variety featuring some Scottish favourites, prawns, Stornaway black pudding, Venison, the boys were well fed & watered, we had no complaints.

Food and service fantastic. Our meal was served within a nice time frame and we were not rushed. The chef was very obliging with dietary requests and food options. The only criticism was that being no dress code for the Hotel restaurant, some guests turned up in what I would say was inappropriate dress. Jeans, open toed sandals, collarless "T" shirts etc. This spoilt our meal somewhat.

My wife and I decided to take a trip to Carnoustie and booked into the Golf Hotel there for afternoon tea, It was disappointing. The service was fine, the ambiance in the dining room was nice, but the "afternoon tea" itself did not live up to its billing. It was well presented, as a stack of three plates with sandwiches, scones and raspberry tarts. The first sandwich we tried was some sort of onion jam and parmesean cheese, a not unpleasant but slightly odd combination. Another was ham and horseradish, rather than mustard. The scones were too large and very heavy, anything but light and fluffy. We ate one of them between us and moved onto the raspberry tart, which in all fairness was nice. When asked by the staff if everything was alright we commented on the scones. They apologised and took 15% off the final bill. The choices for main meals on the menu looked rather attractive and if we are in the area again may well go and try them, but we will not be making a special trip there.

Staff were pleasant and polite. It was lovely to see a nice dining room set with white tablecloths. We ate from a set menu included with our first nights stay. I asked what allowance was given to order from the main menu and was told £15, but when the bill arrived we were charged £20. I think it was probably lack of knowledge from server however it could have been checked to give accurate information and we may have ordered from the main menu. Food was satisfactory, nothing special. Starters could not have been smaller, a couple of teaspoons of crumbled mozzarella over two slices of tomato. Sea bass was very nice, but the chicken breast was a little tough on the outside and a bit dry. Knickerbocker glory dessert half filled with cream and not a lot else. I did mention this and was told they would let chef know! I am told the sticky toffee was nice. It's a pity as the restaurant has a nice ambience even though there was no music playing, though there was soft music when we moved through to the bar.

I always offer a very honest opinion when writing a review and this one is no different.During our 5 day stay at the Carnoustie Hotel recently we fully intended to dine in the Dalhousie restaurant on an evening at least once during our stay which we did on our 2nd night there due to it being fully booked on our first night - it was certainly worth the wait.We were shown to our table at the window which for me being a golfer was fabulous as it overlooks the 18th Green and the 1st Tee of the Championship course - a little distracting when trying to conduct conversation but you golfers out there will know exactly what I mean. The staff present were very professional, courteous and helpful at all times. The service throughout the evening was excellent and this appeared to be the case at all meal times which has to be applauded. The menu is a very good one and found that all items were reasonably priced for an establishment such as this. There were very good alternatives available for younger diners and nothing seemed to be too much trouble for any of the staff. The food when it arrived was excellent and just what was ordered and the steak was cooked to our exacting specifications - so very well done for that. The drinks were also very reasonable for a hotel. There were a couple of issues whilst dining that I will not elaborate on as they have been dealt with in a most prompt and efficient manner by Gordon Mackintosh - Hotel General Manager - so thank you for that as it is greatly appreciated. The only reason we only dined once on an evening in the Dalhousie is that we like to visit different eateries in the region which we did and will be featured in other reviews. This was by far the best evening meal we had during our stay and already looking forward to going back.It is excellent food at affordable prices with fabulous views.

When we arrived it was not busy and we were told to just choose a table. Having looked at the menu we waited to have our order taken. We, then, watched as four other tables, all having arrived after us, had their orders taken. After waiting almost 20 minutes and no-one approaching us, we got up and walked out. The staff just stood and watched us leave. We had been looking forward to our meal as have been frequent customers but will now seriously think about going elsewhere. Very disappointing.
