Stopped here on a day out, after a wait to order, they got it wrong, we asked for an item to be changed and were told ‘that’s how we always do it’. No apology or offer to correct things. To make matters worse, we could then plainly hear the table server complaining about us to the other kitchen staff. There is plenty of choice for places to eat, it’s not the cheapest by a long way so needs to up its customer service skills.

We decided drop in here for soup on lovely day exploring Melrose. We all had soup and bread and butter pudding in the tea rooms and it was delicious. The soup was fresh and tasty, the roll warm and freshly baked, the pudding yummy. The service was excellent and friendly and we felt really welcome. We bought a Melrose tart for later and liked it so much we went back to buy gifts to take home the next day. They remembered us and again made us feel welcome. Thank you.

We waited ages for 2 soups with sandwiches and others were being served before us. At one point I said if it is not here in 2 minutes, let's go. The tables are tiny and the place was busy. When the food came it was OK and just that. It would be nice to be asked if you wanted your sandwiches on brown or white bread when taking the order, we forgot and end up with white when brown would have been our preference. Nice wee place but would not return as plenty others to try in the area. Service is everything and would be good to let customers know when delays are expected when ordering food and give options on bread choice.

I called in for an early lunch at Dalgetty's on a really wet day whilst cycling from Edinburgh to Northumberland. Their lunch special of soup and bread and butter pudding made with bannoch cake saved me from hypothermia and fulled me for the second half of my soggy journey south. I also bought further take away provisions of potato cake and a sumptuous scone for later consumption. This is a wonderfully bright and welcoming place with friendly staff and a wide range of local delicacies to fuel the hungry cyclist and anyone else who loves good home baked food

I had scone and coffee, the cheese scone is one of the lightest I have ever had. The atmosphere is light and bright. The bakery has been in the family for generations, and there are some lovely pictures on the walls of the generations. My wife and I also had the soup of the day and bread on a second visit which was also very tasty. It is a small place and was very busy the days we were in. Customers were being turned away. We stopped after a busy days sight seeing for a coffee and cake. We waited at the “wait to be seated” sign as one waitress approached 4 cyclists were getting off and one came in behind us. Another waitress came scuttling up telling the first waitress no tables for two left and let the cyclists jump the queue. Surely it should be first come first served. It wouldn’t have been as bad if it had been done in a nice way but we were dismissed with a flick of the wrist and a rude tone.

When visiting an establishment that is run by a 5th generation Baker, there is a high expectation that the food will be of very high quality. Dalgetty's didn't disappoint. I visited for a light lunch in the tea room next to the bakery shop. The room was small and crampt in nature. I suspect this is owing to the nature of the building, as opposed to anything else. I ordered a ham and cheese toasted sandwich, which was incredibly tasty, arguably one of the best I've ever had. The quality of the constituent ingredients, presumably all locally sourced, spoke for themselves. This put the accompaniments of crisps, salad and coleslaw to shame. I then had a couple of pieces of toasted Selkirk Bannock. Again these were delicious and well worth the £2.20 cost. Overall, Dalgetty's provides a very tasty experience, that should be on the list of places to visit in Melrose or Galashiels.

Venue clean and airy. However, on entering the tea rooms we seemed to be ‘ invisible ’ to the bakery staff in the entrance who did not acknowledge.us at all; a missed marketing opportunity. We contemplated walking out. They didn’t appear to be busy( just badly trained/rude ). In the café section however there was one very busy waiter serving all café customers. He was pleasant and as efficient as he could be given he was rushed off his feet. Not sure if there was a reason why the bakery staff couldn’t help him(?). The soups were tasty and the salmon sandwich was pleasant (could have had some lemon with and greenery in / with it (?) ) for the price. Pie and beans were average.

We walked in here wanting to sit down and have a tea and a cake. We entered and stood at a sign which said wait here to be seated. There were 3-4 staff in the bakery side who were not busy but they just ignored us. It would have been no issue for one of them to welcome us and let the waitress know we were there. Clearly it was ''not their job''. After five minutes which feels much longer of course we were shown to a table by a waitress. There was no warmth in the welcome and we were given no advice other than being thrust a menu. No more than half a dozen words were spoken. After this she walked back and forth past us for another five minutes and at which point we quietly got up and left....

There are various food options in the town center, including pubs, hotel restaurants, coffee shops and cafes. The Dalgatty Tearoom looked appealing - big windows, attractive display cases so I went in for lunch around 2:00. We received quite a friendly welcome from the waitress who seated the four of us promptly. We ordered 2 minted lamb burgers, a toastie and a carrot and coriander soup. I was a little put of by the sight of the 'chef' walking past us with a see though bag of thin, frozen burgers. The minted lamb burgers were £6:60 each so I was expecting a hearty plate for a lunchtime meal. Nope. It was the thinnest frozen burger with a small diameter served on a plain bun with a side serving of 8 crisps. The toastie was also very small - the size of a half slice of bread, if that. The bowl of soup was a good size and looked appetising with a seeded bun so I was jealous when that arrived. My mum reported that it had too much coriander and when she shared a spoonful with me, it nearly took the roof of my mouth off. We all had a cake as we were still hungry. There was a good selection and they were delicious. A bill of £36.60 meant we left feeling hungry and ripped off.

But as this is the place to have Selkirk Bannock we bought one each to take home and very good they are too very moist with so many sultanas.

We stopped here for lunch and couldn't have been more pleased. The lunch menu had fresh soup, sandwiches and a selection of cream teas. Lots of locals were there so you k ow it is good.

This is the home of the Selkirk Bannock so we just had to pop in to sample it - fabulous !We all tried it and the teas and coffees which we ordered with it complemented it extremely well. After we'd finished, we then queued up in the shop to buy some of the lovely things on offer to take home. You must visit Dalgetty's if you find yourself in Melrose.

We stopped for a pint after a walk. The beer was good. We didn't eat so no comment.

Sadly now seem to be closed. Unfortunately the Main Street of Jedburgh offers nothing in the way of dog friendly cafes... the only town in our trip across central Scotland to have that issue.

With its dark wood furnishings, including a very large gantry, and most of the wall space covered in framed rugby strips, photos etc, the public bar in the Black Swan could almost be described as dark and old fashioned. It can also feel cramped at times as everyone tends to shun the other bar (and rightly so - ‘cos it’s horrible). The public bar is a place where you have a decent chance of meeting some wee, unintelligible drunk bloke (or two) in the corner, but it is also a place where it is easy to strike up conversation with locals at the bar. In many ways the Swan is like a pub from the past and is pretty unique in Kelso. Perhaps that’s why we always come in whenever we visit the town. It is an ordinary, no frills, traditional Scottish pub with good service and good lager and good banter. It suits us perfectly well.

A very welcoming atmosphere, heat staff who were very dog friendly. Food was good and would recommend the restaurant and beer!

Had a great afternoon tea. Our dietary needs were catered for and we were offered lots of tea and coffee. There was a lovely selection of savoury and sweet things and it was very good value for money.
