After a long day of climbing we came here for a nice dinner and were not disapointed. I'ts a pub but is trying harder than most and the food is very good. Nice ambience inside. Probably best to book in holiday time.

We stayed in a little cottage in Beddgelert and had sampled some of the local pubs (which were lo ely) but fancied something a bit less 'pub grub' to celebrate our anniversary. We felt like we were taking a gamble on this place as although the menu sounded a bit more adventurous, the pub doesn't look much from the outside. Well, we were very pleasantly surprised! The food was excellent - kudos to the chef! The service was also exemplary. Cosy, dog friendly with delicious food! We were so impressed we returned again for our last meal of our holiday and it was just as good. Tip:- the home smoked trout is to die for.

We stayed at the campsite for the weekend and thought it was excellent, beautiful lake and good facilities, no signal so very remote and peaceful. We dined at the pub on Saturday night but didn’t like the food. I ordered the garlic prawn starter for £9 and it was 4 of the tiny prawns you can buy from the supermarket the sauce it came in was nice but felt really ripped off from how small the prawns were. I got homemade chips and they were tasteless and a bit undercooked. My cousin however order the bangers and mash for £17 and really enjoyed it. The food and drink was expensive which we put down to the remote location. Probably wouldn’t dine there again sorry.

We make an effort to have a meal here when we are camping at the campsite. Once again the meal did not disappoint. The food is on the pricier side but it is worth every penny. The service is good and the toilets are very clean. You order at the bar and then they bring it to your table. The menu changes seasonally which keeps its fresh.

This was a brilliant pub just at the base of Snowdon, on the quiet side of the mountain. The access to one of the routes up to the summit is no more than 2 mins away. The bed and breakfast option was brilliant and the pub is run by Graham and his family. He has owned it for 44 years. The lunch and dinner menus were excellent and it made the trip a complete joy. I would fully recommend the pub as a great staging post. The food is all freshly cooked and the Full English Breakfast in the morning is a joy. the rooms were of a good quality and well looked after.

I returned to the campsite last weekend and as a regular visitor it again didn’t disappoint. The staff both in Cwellyn Arms & the campsite are fantastic. The owner who visits the site twice a day goes round every tent and checks in with everyone to see if everything is ok and for a short conversation about your stay and the surrounding area. A really nice touch. Also brilliant that staff in the pub let you know about the weather and wind for your stay and the best place to pitch your tent for the conditions. The facilities are spotless. Showers toilets and washing areas are so clean. The views are the main selling point fir this site. Right in the banks of a huge lake with a small river running down the side of the site. The sunsets each night are unreal. The site is huge and no matter where you pitch your tent you are guaranteed amazing views of the mountains, hills or the lake. The other campers on site are really friendly and often call by for a chat. Loved my stay again and as a regular customer wanted to let the staff know you are doing a fantastic job. I love this site.

After hiking the Llyn Peninsula for a week, we took the steam train from Porthmadog into Snowdonia National Park for a couple of nights in order to summit Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon). I didn't have much time to research where to stay, so I had just looked quickly for a place close to both the train station and the start of the path we planned to take. I truly hit the jackpot with the Cwellyn Arms. They have just a couple of rooms upstairs above the pub, so you will probably want to book it well in advance (unless you're camping - they also have a campground down the road a bit). Our room was very comfy and clean, and well appointed with fantastic water pressure in the shower (such a treat for two Americans used to low flow). Both dinners were terrific (we had the brie appetizer both nights; fish pies, steak and kidney pie, and rump of lamb - all yummm). They have quite a nice selection of beers on tap (Leffe!), and the full Welsh breakfast was a great way to start the day. Graham was incredibly helpful with suggesting the route to take and giving us a paper map, and they even lent us hiking poles since we had lost a pair somewhere along the Coastal Way. Everyone was super friendly, and a couple of local workers even bought us a round of pints. We summited Snowdon and enjoyed our stay - the perfect way to cap off our vacation.

Great pub, great staff, great food! Friendly and relaxed atmosphere with a warm welcome. Food excellent (I had one of the best desserts I’ve had in a very long time so plans to curb the sweet tooth completely derailed! ;) ). Excellent selection of local ales. I had a few amazing pints of Bragdy Conwy Brewery ‘Golden Gate’ American IPA…superb if you’re an ale fan. I stayed at this pubs campsite which is a short doable walk away but make sure you got your headtorch after dark! Campsite is lakeside, spacious and ample parking and an excellent facility and very affordable and great value for money…I can’t wait to return! If you do The Snowdon Ranger Path walk up Snowdon (as kindly recommended and clearly explained by pub landlord Graham), the pub remains a visible beacon for the majority of the walk if skies clear - so if you do lose the will you got that end game pint to keep you going…Staff are very friendly and down to earth but they’ve clearly ‘heard it all before’ so be kind, polite and respectful to them and you will get twofold in return. Thank you all for a great, well needed, break from ‘the grind’. I’ll be back…

After being excited to turn up at a campsite named “Snowdon base camp” I was looking forward to enjoying the modern facilities shown on website. Modern facilities? Absolutely awful. I can’t express enough how bad the facilities were given to us. I understand they had some technical problems however I would have liked to have been informed this prior to my stay. Talking about being informed, it would be nice to be informed how much of a distance the pub is from the actual campsite! Not safe at all for families to walk to, I do not recommend believing their website details in any shape or form. I am a very understanding person however when it comes to customer service I do not tolerate being spoken to so rudely by the owner himself!! He wanted to not only argue with me but also give me nothing but ignorance when I was being polite and asking for a refund due to the disgusting and mislead conditions provided. It is at the least to have a working bright light in the shared bathroom area which was damp and not in any way sanitised. I am not happy with how I was spoken to by the owner even when I was very calm and collective just wanting to speak over why I was in the unknown about the campsite conditions. Boggy fields, dirty facilities, rude and arrogant owner. The best advice I can give is to not book here, it is not family friendly and I would not have felt safe to camp on this site, therefore I didn’t even unpack my car! It is a scam and the owner is grabbing money where he can. Good luck to the people who stay there…I definitely won’t be respecting that man’s business. Horrible.

Horrible place with rude owner! We arrived for camping at snowdon base camp owned by the cwellyn arms, had amazing description online about amazing shower facilities it’s underfloor eating etc. when we arrived we were told these were shut leaving us to shower in a stone building which was cold dark and damp inside. Rank. Also The fields were too boggy to pitch a tent on. We paid the price to stay at the campsite purely because of the amazing facility description and due to finding out they were shut, we spoke to the owner who was incredibly rude, he practically chucked us our tickets, and after politely asking him if we could cancel and have a refund, he had a massive go at us trying to explain that there’s nothing wrong with the campsite! So we left with no refund, they stole our money as the description online is opposite to what it’s like!

Would be very easy to miss the Cwellyn Arms, looks like just another rural Welsh village pub. We're very glad we didn't, having turned up hoping for reasonable pub grub on a wet Sunday evening. In. summary we had an excellent meal of tasty well presented food. Of particular note was the Chicken Supreme and the Fish Pie, but everything we had was good. Followed up by some lovely home made desserts - normally the weakest part of a meal but not here. The place was quiet but atmosphere was still good with a wood fire going and a few interesting local beers on draught as well. Highly recommended - we will be back.

I was sitting at the table with my pint of Erdinger, I'd drank about a third of it when I was suddenly approached by the barman who offered to liven up my pint. At first I was confused by this as in 20 years of drinking beer no-one has said such a thing to me. But anyway I eventually agreed to it, the barman took my pint away and returned it to me full to the top of the glass with a head on it. Excellent customer service! Incredible. Lovely campsite which we have stopped a couple times before, if you want a quieter stay better during the week.We had a lovely Thursday night but unfortunately was a little spoiled on Friday when a family with dogs a children decided to pitch there tent at nearly midnight not the fact they were there around 6pm with drinks and BBQ and also decided it was a good idea to chuck the empty bottles over to floor away from their area which I ended up picking up.We had pitch our tent near the back where there were like little alcoves which was nice and no one directly around us. There a little track at the side just past the laundry hut.It is a great camp site just spoiled by the inconsiderate people. But this maybe to do with the current situation where they would go abroad but have to stay in Britain and don't quite understand the concept of peace and quiet and relaxation. Apologies for the rantStill will go again next year though at the view of Snowden from the site and the facilities are spot on.

We visited here on Sat June 5th - a party of six adults for my wife's birthday and we all left disappointed.I had read the reviews and was looking forward to a good night - but the food was that bad we ended up laughing at how bad it was.I will leave the starters - as they were overpriced and bang average. The mains: First thing - the menu had changed from the previous week - and not for the better...3 of us had the steak and kidney 'pie'. The pastry was so dry that it shot off my plate into my lap when i cut it. Same happened to my brother in law too.The lid of the pie was like a popadom - so dry and just resting on the top.My son had the sausage and mash. The mash was about the size of half an upturned tennis ball with 3 x 2 inch sausages, and gravy. His meal was last to come and he finished his meal first it was that small. I would't even give that to a child of 10.One of our party had the gluten free option - which was ham, egg and chips. Talk about lack of choice! My daughter had the lasagne - which she said was very nice. A ratio of 1/6 thought they had a decent meal.My son also had the snowdon pavlova for desert as he was still hungry - and he said it was very nice too.Normally, when you go for a meal - the waiter/waitress comes across and asks if everything is ok....... not here. Nobody came over at all. Also - you have to order your meals at the bar. For the prices we were paying i expected to give my order to a waiter/waitress. We paid our bill - at the bar obviously - and left. Disappointed.

It wasn't busy but it took a while to get served. The food was nice but not worth what you pay. £16 for a lasagne which wasn't a big portion. The food comes out on a slate which is a nice touch. A pint of grimbergen was £6.20. Amazing pint. Nice and cold but that price wow. There was 9 of us and we didn't have any desert. The bill was high enough so we couldn't justify paying nearly £3 for a scoop of ice cream not to mention £8 for a normal desert. Its a nice bar with friendly staff. Recommended if you are loaded. They have clearly raised prices taking advantage of people having to take stay cations in the area but its been a tough year so people will pay.

My brother and I had the opportunity this weekend to stay on the Gwellyn Arms camp site and spend some time in the pub itself drinking and eating. Firstly we were greeted with a warm welcome from the team in the pub where you check-in to the camp site. Whilst we were putting the tent up the landlord/owner, also welcomed us and had a laugh and joke. The camp site has beautiful views, the amenities are great, which were clean and tidy which given the wet weather conditions isn't an easy task. The underfloor heating, after you've been out in the rain all day in the shower blocks are a god send:-) The service in the pub whether just drinking or eating was excellent, special mention to Jade & Joe who were always very attentive and couldn't do enough for you which they did in such a sincere manner. The food was fantastic, I would highly recommend the slow cooked pork belly which tasted nothing short of a 5 star restaurant. I would highly recommend this this camp site and the pub itself, it may be 25/30mins from Snowdon but don't be put off by this little extra distance, possibly compared to site which maybe nearer. Of course you also get the wonderful views driving there too. We look forward to spending time there again in the not to distance future and meeting up with the team for a chat and a joke.Thank you againJason & Heath

We were staying nearby in Nantlle and pre booked a table at the Cwellyn arms for dinner on one of the evenings of our trip. It was dog friendly which is a must for us as we were holidaying with our dog. The place is operating in a Covid safe way and our meals were both absolutely stunning! Our server (I didn’t get his name unfortunately but it was on Tuesday 13th October at 7pm) was really welcoming and friendly. We asked for the wifi code which costs 50p but this goes towards Snowdon mountain rescue so was more than happy to pay for it (as were regular walkers but hope to never need this vital service). We started a tab and our card was placed in a safe to which we kept the key for, the only thing about this was I’m not sure the additional “contact” (Covid!) was necessary in the given circumstances. We both had a main and a dessert each and they were really nice and service was great too! Would come here again if we’re staying in the area. Thanks

So clean and friendly and welcoming. We booked our meal time slot in advanced and was shown to our table in good time. All food and drinks after we'd ordered came out in a timely manner and fresh as they come. My starter was the mushrooms they were covered in a sauce that was mouth melting worthy. My pudding was the snowdon and every single person on our table was gutted they never ordered it. Hands down the best meringue was perfect and the hidden ice cream was devine. The only thing that let our experience down was the main. I order the 6oz beef burger with the homemade chutney, but after I ate the chutney the burger was just plain and bland. I would sergest leaving it on and spreading over the top of the burger so every bite has a taste of the amazing chutney. My sis in law had The ham and egg meal. We assumed the ham would be gammon or cooked but it was just cold ham on the side of the plate. Our fault for not enquiring more but was still eaten with no complaints though. Presention was on point on everything we ate and even what we drank, our hot coco were all dusted over and we're lovly. Would come here again 100%.

Very dissapointed. We came here for a pint after being up the mountains. Everyone adheres to the social distancing COVID-19 guidelines which is great to see.Had to wait a few minutes at the bar while the queue started to grow. Barmaid was in the kitchen talking. She came out and couldn't crack a smile. Perhaps she might have been having a bad day I don't know. Card machine didn't work and their "free WiFi" that my mobile picked up cost me 60p to use.The pub itself is an amazing building in a brilliant location off the Rhyd ddu path up snowdon.I would like to go back and try the food hoping that the service might be better next time. The pint of alcohol I had was perfect I must admit. Bit pricey at £5.60 a pint. No need for those types of prices up here but there we go.

Called to book last week for a Sunday roast, arrived today at 12:30pm, glass of Prosecco was £7 then went to order the roast and it was sold out, at 12:30pm. As there is no signal anywhere in this area we asked for the WiFi code, waitress said it’s 50p for the code. When we did get the code it was half cut off the piece of paper so couldn’t even see what the code was. Absolutely appalling to make a booking for a roast and then not even get to order at 12:30pm!! Ridiculous and gutted by this experience.

Another memorable trip to this wonderful campsite and Pub, I’ve lost count how many times I have been here but this was special as my nephew joined me for the first time, for his first summit and hopefully not his last! Graham, his family and the staff are all so welcoming along with a few of the locals. The food is and as always superb and filling after a days walking. The campsite and pub are in a great location over looking snowdon, the campsite backed by Mynydd Mawr (elephant mountain) and lake Cwellyn. Not far from Caernarfon and only 4 miles to Beddgelert to which a path behind the pub can be picked up for a relatively flat ish walk there. I find myself drawn to this place not just for snowdon anbut for the people I have met, the warm welcome that all at the Cwellyn Arms supply in the most incredible, enchanted place I have visited in the UK, after all, this is the land of legends ‍♂️

Situated at the bottom of the Rhyd-Ddu path, this charming place has warmth, character, good beers and excellent pub food. The staff (specifically Joe, the barman) are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They're doing a great job during these difficult times. Check it out if you're in the area, but they're very busy so book in advance. Thanks for introducing my wife and me to the seaweed flavoured rum, Joe! Looking forward to coming back again.

We arrived here Tuesday to an incredibly warm welcome and a friendly atmosphere. Checking in to the campground was easy to do and the staff were very helpful with our many questions. The campsite was great and the ideal location for wanting to trek to the summit of Snowdon. What really blew us away was the gentleman that came to check on us morning and evening to ensure we had returned from our trek. This simple gesture was much appreciated as with no signal no one else knew which path we had taken. We had blast staying here and can’t wait to return!!

We stayed for 2 nights in the campsite, the facilities were very clean and modern. No music policy made sure everyone can have a quiet, relaxing time. The lake was beautiful. We chose here because the reviews seemed good and the menu online looked good. Unfortunately reality did not live up to this in any way. We were presented with a sparse and unimaginative menu which bore no resemblance to what is shown online. There was a choice of only 5 main courses, one which was off the menu. Service was slow and stressed, and staff were not wearing face masks. When the food eventually came it was of very low quality. My burger had no salad or coleslaw, just some dreary chips as accompaniment. The food was very overpriced too. I just wish we'd left before ordering.

We've eaten out the last 3 evenings (we're on holiday). The other two places were fantastic. But this pub is the worst I've been to in years. Four choices of main course and they were terrible. The steak pie was a precooked pastry case, very little filling and a few chips and peas - for £14.45 - a complete rip off. My encouragement to the owners would be to try to come into the 21st Century. It was appalling. Don't go is my advice and, on this one, don't believe the positive reviews.

Perfect location! stunning scenery right at the foot of Snowdon but the owner has his priorities all wrong. Firstly, his attitude stinks. He hardly comes across as friendly, quite the opposite in fact. Pitching tents so they are touching your neighbours is allowed as is pitching a tent at midnight but music at zero level is punishable by eviction!2 lads next to us were playing their music at zero level, which could only be heard if you were sat on top of their mini speaker. We didn't even know they were playing music until we sat with them for 10 minutes. They were friendly enough and went to sleep at a decent hour. At 7am, the owner began shaking tents and accused a young family of playing music then turned to the 2 lads and told them to pack up and leave immediately. These lads did nothing wrong yet they were treated so poorly. This campsite could be brilliant - it is in the most picturesque place in Snowdonia, facilities are basic but do the job and the site itself is charming. It is just a shame the owners attitude stinks and he hasn't quite got to grips with what rules are important and what aren't.I won't be returning.

Was having a hard time finding anywhere open for lunch midweek in January. Came across Cwellyn Arms in Rhyd Ddu which is a bit out of the way, but we found well worth the drive. There were comfortable seat with a blazing warm log fire. A local beer went down well. A good selection of foods at reasonable prices. We started with a melted Brie dish with toast, delicious. Followed by a belly pork dish that was excellent and filling. My friend had the beef pie with large chunks of tender beef. Home made ice cream and a sorbet finished the meal.

Lovely little pub, cosy welcoming fire and frequented by locals which speaks volumes. We both chose Cwellyn Arms fish pie, Smoked haddock, salmon, monkfish & king prawns in a creamy vermouth sauce topped with buttered mash & parmesan, served with rocket & parmesan salad. Stepped into lovely old whitewashed pub with wonderful service. Had a lunch of smoked trout on a roll with tomato and rocket. Delicious. Also had a side of coleslaw. I love a coleslaw with lots of dressing on it and this had perhaps the most I have ever had. Probably not to everyone's taste, but I liked it. Enjoyed a Rampart dark malty ale from Conwy Brewers. Couldn't have enjoyed ourselves more. Beautiful views of Mt. Snowdon. Refreshed, we walked back down to Beddgelert.

It is one of the most tempting sights as you descend the western slopes of Snowden and it is always good to look forward to the excellent refreshment and food that awaits at the end of the journey. It isn't the cheapest but the best rarely is and you get the quality that you pay for. Choose the Welsh steaks and lamb for a real feast! We ordered in advance a mixed combination of meals and all were presented piping hot and together which is no mean feat when there were other dinners in the restaurant. Good food enjoyed by all although perhaps a little expensive but then again you are in a reasonably remote location and as I say it was very tasty. Good range of drinks available. Awful experience. We arrived around 2 pm, and we asked what the soup was. We were told it was Parsnip and immediately ordered. The member of staff went to the kitchen to ask something and then came out to say they are no longer serving food. We found this odd given that she had just confirmed the soup with the kitchen, and the cafe is open until 4 pm. Fair enough if we were trying to order at 3.45pm, but this was at 2pm. We ordered coffees and welsh cakes, which took 20 minutes to come (cafe was empty, save for ourselves). The rude member of staff then slammed them on the table, didn't even take the items off the tray, and walked off. Never have I had such an awful customer service experience. Complete letdown to what is a lovely area.

A most welcoming local pub with an excellent chef who happily adapted starters into a main for me - veggie! Although menu catered for everyone. Mine hosts were so cheerful & hardworking - many could take a leaf out of their books! The place was absolutely buzzing with people of all ages - locals & holidaymakers having the time of their lives singing along to the live musician of the evening who sang everything from Beatles/John Denver to modern day...talented chap! We will definitely be back - next time we may stay if not during the summer months, perhaps for an Autumn/Spring walking holiday!
