Custom House in Cardiff

Lovely venue for lunch /dinner. Reasonably priced for excellent quality food. We had sunday lubch which was delcious and received excellent service. We will definitely be back!

On visit without family lovely couldn’t fault ,on a visit today and haveing a mixed family group found very different service poor at most ,le monde which is part off the chain perfect however this place I wouldn’t waste a penny on if u have a diverse family feeling was awful couldn’t wait to leave and yes paid full bill

Too many tables in the bar area, it was way too cramped and claustrophobic. They had a dining area to the right of reception but not sure why we weren’t sat in there? I believe the bar area should be for people drinking only and not for people eating, as I like to eat food in a quieter environment. I found it strange how there are no physical menus and we had to actually get up and give our table number and order at the desk, I expected table service from the waiters as it is a posh restaurant. My steak wasn’t medium rare how I asked, it was more medium-well. Overall, was not what I expected.

My girlfriend and I were out for a 30th birthday celebration, food was great but the service was really poor, they forgotten our drinks order twice and the chips came out 3 quarters through our meal just before we finished our steaks, we had to chase our drinks twice and also our sides twice. The bad service has put a dampener on my girlfriends 30th birthday celebration

They were really rude customer service was terrible to them 3 hours for our food to come to our table and overall in very poor

Very unfriendly staff and the waiter behind the food counter was very rude to us when we asked him questions. It wasn't busy but I would imagine if it was,the queue at the food order counter must be horrendous. Wouldn't it be better to let people view the food and then return to the menu on their table to order. Very pricey for ordering the food yourself and not being waited on. Having said this the food was excellent and fresh but for the prices, which are expensive, it was not a very relaxing experience.

Service was terrible it appears that they were understaffed. Ambiance was good however the food was deplorable. To say this restaurant holds itself to be a fish restaurant all the fish we had was overcooked. The steaks the party received were acceptable however the veal had a rancid taste. When we complained after one of our party being sick we received nothing but attitude from the management and said pay what you want knowing that if we did not pay the full bill they would call the police.

Thank you for the most amazing Coronation Celebration for the Penarth Marina Residents Association. Tani, you and your team were fantastic, the good service and the whole experience today was fantastic. Thank you. A restaurant that really does support, care and treasure it’s local residents and community. A day we will never forget thank you.

Visited many times and always had a great experience, food was spot on again, Lemon sole perfectly cooked with new pots and veg done to perfection. My granddaughter uses a wheelchair and the staff couldn't be more helpful. Great service, drinks brought over straight away and not a long wait for the food to arrive.

Second time to this building but tried the Fish Restaurant this time...upstairs. Much preferred this to the downstairs as it seemed somewhat more refined, a more personalised service. Food was excellent as was the wine and service. A Birthday meal that was well and truly enjoyed by all four of us, a really good night out for one of those "special meals". We spend a lot of time down the bay and will definitely be returning to this one

I ate with 20 others at a Christmas meal. As this was a preordered meal I didnt take my glasses, as I knew I didnt have to read any menus.My error as I couldnt read any of the parking signs.I was issued with a parking fine although No reminder from the staff at customs house on my entry or exit, which Old Customs House said wouldnt be an issue as had to go through the parking company to prove I had eaten there. I uploaded all proofs with no reply and no acknowledgement.I have also chased the parking company only be email as no contact telephone number and they are inundated so cannot reply directly. I have received no acknowledgement of my documentation or my email just that it has been sent to a debt recovery agency. On top of that the food was fast , expensive and awful.

Been here a number of times, the food we had this time was again excellent, we had lemon sole and monkfish with new pots and veg, with beef skewers and cod goujons to start, all excellent. Service was very good too, as it was very busy, with drinks arriving a few minuets after ordering. The staff were friendly and were very helpful with my granddaughter who uses a wheelchair.

Primera visita a este restaurante el martes 5. 11) 2019. Tomó una pareja de visita de Durham. En primer lugar, una excelente ubicación junto al aluvión de Cardiff Bay. Estacionamiento gratuito (registre su vehículo cuando llegue). Recibí mi nombre por el frente de la casa y me llevaron a una mesa frente al agua según lo solicitado. Música encantadora en el fondo (francés e italiano) que fue muy relajante. En lugar de un gran menú, nos dirigieron a los `pizarrones` donde pudimos elegir entre una comida de 2 platos a un precio especial o entre la gran selección de platos de pescado y carne. El servicio fue bastante rápido y la comida la más sabrosa que he tenido en mucho tiempo. ¡Siempre se trata de sabor! Estamos emocionados de regresar a este maravilloso lugar.

Visité aquí muchas veces a lo largo de los años, ya que la ubicación es un edificio encantador y hermoso. La comida es consistente con lo que ofrecen, pero lamentablemente decepcionado últimamente por el personal y el servicio. ¡Simplemente parecen seguir los movimientos y algunos de ellos ni siquiera parecen estar disfrutando de su trabajo! Vergüenza real! ! ¿Hay algún cambio en la administración tal vez? ?

El edificio y el entorno fueron muy impresionantes. Sin embargo, la comida fue muy decepcionante. Solo había una selección de papas fritas o papas de chaqueta y nada de verduras. Cuando llegaron las papas fritas, estaban en un tazón pequeño para tres personas, las papas parecían haberse cocinado antes y simplemente se habían calentado. Las comidas de menú fijo no eran interesantes, no muy calientes y la comida vegetariana que pedimos estaba sin sabor. Decepcionado ya que estábamos visitando con los visitantes.

Visited 12:30 Sat 28th. Fantastic 2 course for £14 deal which had a great choice. Food was lovely. Served by a few different staff but that was fine. Very attentive. Great choice of drinks.

Some friendly feedback - had a delicious meal with a blue fillet steak cooked perfectly. Wonderful selection of food and wine and lovely luxurious atmosphere with great views at night of Cardiff Bay. Unfortunately, the staff really need some more training. We had at least 6 or 7 different waiters during our meal. One told us we could order just starters then later mains, but then we were told at the counter to order in one go, meaning we all had to rush our choices. Later, a waitress couldn’t understand I wanted a Cabernet Sauvignon and asked me to write it down because she hadn’t heard of it before. When the food came and I asked for Dijon mustard, they didn’t know what that was either and then came back to say they didn’t stock English mustards, only French ones(!) I think a little more training in the basics is required for some staff there. Also didn’t love that I had to go downstairs for a salad bowl and then back upstairs. Overall a really good meal, but I’d rather not feel like I have to educate the waiting staff! Would definitely go back again because the food was so good though.

Called in for lunch and were extremely disappointed with the service although the food was Ok when it arrived. A board outside advertises tapas all day and the member of staff at the door told us we needed to order them at the bar and sit there or outside. He didn’t mention that we needed a table number. After being ignored at the bar for quite some time, we were finally asked what we wanted and then told we needed a table number. We sat at a dirty table outside which took four visits from staff to clear of three glasses and four napkins. A couple at a nearby table were brought their tapas but no cutlery so they were forced to go inside again to ask for some. The meatballs and fish goujons arrived hot and were quite tasty and there is quite a nice range of outdoor seating on a hot day.

We booked a table for 4 with friends for a Friday lunch time. We have not been here for such a long time due to mediocre and bad service from previous visits but wanted to give it another try. The atmosphere was good but a bit of trouble locating our booking and our table was not ready. We waited in the bar area for our table which was not too much of a problem for us or our friends and would not effect my rating on this occasion as we enjoyed our drinks. The meal was fine but nothing special, the starter of ribs was only warm and quite fatty. Main course of hake was okay for a cutlet. We enjoyed the wine which I would say was good value and a reasonable price. I can not complain at the service which was improved from previous visits. We parked in the Car Park totally unaware that we needed to register vehicle registration as we were on automatic pilot as we had not had to do it on previous visits with car. Other visits to this restaurant we were dropped off so unaware of changes. We ended up with a £60 parking fine for which the restaurant would do nothing about and told us we needed to appeal first which was rejected out of hand. I think out of duty of care to the customer that you should be told on booking and visiting to register your vehicle as it can be easily missed. Therefore the reason this rating is 1 star is because the fine has been paid.

Today I had lunch with a group of 27 people at La Marina situate The Old Custom House. The food was excellent, well presented, hot and tasty, with more than adequate dishes of fries for us to help ourselves.

Meal overpriced for fatty ribs and a round cutlet of Hake on the bone..accompanied by an overcooked jacket potato
