Abo Ali in Cardiff

I stumbled upon Abo Ali last week and what a find! As a veggie lover, I was thrilled by their options. The vegetarian burger was a pleasant surprise - juicy and packed with flavor. But the real star? Their falafel. Crispy, perfectly spiced, and honestly the best I've had in a while. The vine leaves were a close second. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere cozy, making me feel right at home. If you're after tasty vegetarian Lebanese fare in Cardiff, Abo Ali is the place to be. I'll definitely be back for more of those falafels!​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Wow what a hidden gem on City Road. Welcoming owner who informed me that it’s a family business. I ordered a wrap and hummus dish and it was delicious. Decently priced, good value, wonderful ambiance, impressive cleanliness. However, place isn’t wheelchair accessible. Toilets were clean. Drinking water was given in a bottle for free which you’d hardly expect in Halal places in Cardiff as water itself is a business. Overall experience was amazing. Definitely recommended if you want greater value at very affordable price. 5 stars without any doubt for everything.

First time I've been to a Lebanese restaurant that servers mezze with a cold naan bread, and portions with fries... A mixture of cultures here. The mezze was good but not as on the photo, missing olives. The falafel was delicious. No babaganoush available. Service was OK

Again, an excellent lunch we had at ABO ALi. We went to Newport for a meal but ended up again at ABO ALi. Excellent service , good value , clean and the owner always make an effort to welcome customers. We have been to ABO ALI for years and would still come here anytime even if we have to travel quite a few miles. Highly recommend!!! 👌👌👌👌👌

Honestly the best food I have eaten. Received so much, and I got a platter for 2, could have easily fed a family for 4. We got given free dessert, and that was amazing. 10/10, will go back here again and again 100%.

I have been going to Abo Ali for years and before that I went to the owners previous restaurant. His food is fantastic and he is always friendly and accommodating when I visit. Definitely in my top 3 restaurants on City rd. There is a reason why this restaurant hasn’t changed hands or closed as so many others have done on city rd and that’s because he managed keep his customers happy with great food and service!

Loved the platter, very well marinated and grilled excellent service, and generous amount of food, you get rice chips and bread with platter and meals, the reception was nice and the pakistani young guy (sorry forgot to ask his name) who served us was amazing very polite and kind. Food was freezing cold, served with stone cold bread and when I asked for a warm one they put it in microwave and brought it back, when I asked why you can not give me fresh one he said our oven is not working, when we we were leaving and I mentioned that the food was freezing cold he was denying it, and said it’s only our people who comes and complain and I don’t want our people to come to my restaurant, I tried to make a video of what he said but he won’t repeat it, the worse experience I ever had in restaurant If there was a negative review option available I would given minus ten,

A very pathetic experience, freezing cold food was served along with cold naan and after I asked for a fresh one they put it in the microwave and the kebab was cold and was over seasoned and when I tried to speak to the owner he complained overall terrible experience I would NEVER recommend abo Ali to anyone and the whole thing costed over £55 and was to over priced for the poor quality as it was extremely hot the AC wasn’t even there absolutely terrible and he was very rude. This was probably the worst experience I’ve ever had in Cardiff and i have lived here for a long period of time and never had this terrible experience.

The atmosphere was uncomfortably warm since they hadn't arranged for any air conditioning. Despite the heat, the food was served cold. The naan was particularly cold, the serving size was insufficient, the rice was sticky, and the BBQ seemed reheated. When we raised these issues with the staff, they argued instead of offering an apology or attempting to rectify the situation.

My family and I have been coming here for many many years. The boss man is the loveliest man, food is always beautiful. I've yet to find a chicken shish better in Cardiff. 👌🏼

I have taken a delivery yesterday March 17 from them and both my children were violently sick the whole night. My son is still vomitting chicken and rice 12 hours after his meal and both have diaorheea. Thank you Abo Ali for a fantastic meal! How do I know is their food? Last meal of the day for my children and I had none of it and I am absolutely fine.

I recently visited this restaurant for a quiet lunch and had a pleasant experience. The portion sizes are incredibly generous - my half baby chicken was more than enough food! While the chicken itself was good, I imagine some of the other menu items with more complex flavor profiles might be even better. To my surprise, they even offered a complimentary sweet treat at the end of the meal, which was a nice touch. The service was friendly and attentive, especially considering it was a quieter time. Overall, Abo Ali is a great option for those looking for a relaxed atmosphere and ample portions of Lebanese cuisine. I'd be interested in returning to try some of their other offerings!

Food okay but turned up cold..when tried to call store was immediately diverted to voicemail several times! Poor service and no way to give feedback!!!

If you want to know what a real burger is , try abo Ali's half pounder halal beef burger with fresh salad, homemade mayonnaise and chili sauce with a side order of french friess thus, this is the place to come. I ordered baby chicken ,cooked to perfection over charcoals that fill the whole restaurant with the most beautiful smell ABO ALI is the best of host and never fails to give the best service and best quality food on city road. Cannot recommend highly enough. We travel just to get the taste of their Lebanese cuisine. Again , I was so excited to eat I forgot to take photos of the food.😂 Again, thank you ABO Ali!

Very bad experience with burnt fish and extremely chewy meat

We stopped by here to order a takeaway. We got the baby chicken and sides of rice and chips. Food was excellent - we enjoyed it so much that we forgot to take food pics before eating! Would love to return to dine here as there is a lovely ambience. Staff are very helpful and polite. We were kindly given free naans, sauces and baklawa with our meal. The overall impression would be the exceptional quality, value for money and amount of food for what we ordered.

I've been going here with the wife for many years including the restaurant before the fire. The food is always fresh and excellent. The smoothies are to die for. Highly recommended but be prepared to wait for your food sometimes as the takeaways are in high demand.

Their menu is mediocre but their prices are reasonable. However, I would not recommend ordering from this restaurant online but to rather dine in if you’re looking for cheaper alternatives. Anyways, I have placed an order with Abo Ali’s restaurant via Uber Eats and explicitly stated on the notes section: “Please do not forget any of the items” as I have encountered this issue before. To my surprise, half of my order was missing ONCE AGAIN!!! I then tried to reach out to the restaurant to express my frustration on their registered phone number at “029 2048 6701” only to be directed to the voicemail of “the number you are calling does not exist”. While I did get refunded through the UberEats app, I was extremely dissatisfied with the overall experience considering I left a note reminding them to get my order correctly this time.

Again,it was a fantastic food and service we received from ABO Ali and staff. Thank you so much. We will definitely see you soon

The takeaway food was disgusting The Nan Bread cold the the salad was soggy the THOMAS was not fresh no onions or chilies in or given with kebab. Just under £15 for a kebab and chips, disgusting the meat was cold. The sad this was outside show £11 and go instead to order and then come pay it’s just under £14.50. They price up, rude and ignorant, also abrupt with bad service. The hygiene standards I found out it’s only three but buy look at it now from inside i am very surprised it’s open. I wouldn’t even give it one rating for hygiene. I would not recommend this to anyone name and shame also share this post. please share this post and name and share this to family and friends!!!!

Ordered an Arabic swarma meal and a pot of garlic Mayo, the Mayo coke congealed, to the point it’s like putty, also inside the wrap the Mayo was like rubber! Absolutely will never order again! No contact number to ring and complain!!

Went in for a collection last night absolutely fantastic unlike a normal greasy kebab this will leave you speechless everything is packed separate so you can add as little or as much sauce salad as you require. Every element of the kebab from them pita to the salad was amazing service was quality and the smell of the coals was a nice touch knew it was going to be good from the minute we arrived

This is one of my favourite restaurants of all time!! I drive around 30 miles every time I want to come here and it’s so worth it! I always get the lamb Kofta, it’s really good. I know the boneless chicken is amazing too. Every meal comes with a complimentary naan. The owner is such a nice person, he regularly gives us free baklava for dessert! Will forever recommend this place 10/10. There is a shisha place out the back as well if you fancy something different after food! Thank you x

29-9-23 1 hour wait via Uber Eats. The restaurant gave delivery driver wrong food. We spent £37 and received nothing. Driver tried to give us other food! Phone number says “you have dialled incorrect number” customer service poor. Lesson learned!
