The Athenian Tree in Cardiff

La comida es agradable, pero el servicio y la actitud horrible. No esperes obtener lo que pediste - pedimos salmón, tabuleh y salsa de limón. Vino con chips en su lugar. Cuando dijimos que no era lo que pedimos, nos dijeron que no hacen tabuleh como deberíamos haber sabido. Preguntamos por qué no nos dijeron y cambiaron el menú, pero nos encogimos de hombros. El plato de espaguetis era rigatoni pero al menos era pasta. Sentimos que no nos querían allí y parecían concentrarse en los pedidos de deliveryoo. La espera para la principal fue demasiado larga. El personal estaba discutiendo. Huelga decir que no volveremos.

Really good authentic Greek food at a reasonable price. The service, quality and price was also brilliant. We had calamari, pitta and dips then kleftiko, meatballs and gyros, it was all really good

Only 4 chips! Seriously what a rip off! Will stick with my usual greek village.

Pedí algunos envoltorios altamente decepcionado de que cada envoltorio que teníamos solo contenía 4 chips! ¿Qué es la crisis del costo de vida? ¡4 fichas! ¡Solo 4 fichas! Hemos venido aquí un par de veces y la comida es consistentemente sabrosa. Felicitaciones especiales a la picante salchicha griega Spetsofai y el feta dip tyrokafteri. El personal es amable y acogedor. Nos encanta este lugar.

Ordered the beast wrap, it’s the same size as the smallest wrap available. Absolute rip off, food turned up coke also. Absolute joke! £14 for the worst wrap I’ve ever had in my life. Absolutely disgusting!

No frills Greek restaurant in Canton. Tasty food with generous portions. Gyros were the perfect hangover cure (veggie options available) great value for money. Lovely friendly waitress.

Me duele escribir esta crítica, nuestra reciente visita fue un desastre absoluto. Hemos comido en este restaurante en varias ocasiones y cada dos veces ha sido genial. Durante nuestra reciente visita, la comida estaba bien, pero el servicio era absolutamente horrible, esperó casi una hora para nuestros entrantes, y casi media hora para nuestros platos principales, que eran casi tibios. Solo había 8 personas en el restaurante, y estaban esperando el mismo tiempo, sin interacción de ninguno de los empleados, sin ambiente. Era evidente que daban prioridad a los pedidos en línea, la cantidad de entregas recogidas era constante. Tristemente no volveremos otra vez.

Great food, £6 gyros to takeaway from fantastic staff. The lady that greets you when you come in is always the highlight of our day and makes you feel like family. Cannot recommend enough

Just had a take out chicken skewer wrap and it was the best one I’ve had by far. I can’t comment on atmosphere of the restaurant as it was a deliveroo delivery. Will definitely be going to the restaurant for an eat in meal

worst experience ever via uber driver was fab.food burnt and chicken well words fail me tiny bits mostly salad and chips...aweful aweful and the sides well over priced for tiny pots cost 5ver each one.shocking is the word I hate leaving bad reviews.But this time over 30 quod and food went in bin 100%... disgusting really was shame on your restaurant

We've eaten here several times, and the quality of the food is good. However I ordered takeaway last weekend. After waiting some considerable time, Athenian Tree delivered our food, but cancelled one of our group's order, meaning he got nothing to eat. No explanation. No courtesy phone call to suggest an issue like they might have run out of that dish, and would he like something else. Nothing. Disgusting customer service. Will be going elsewhere in the future.

I’ve had both sit down meals and deliveries from here and food is delicious. Authentic, tasty and lovely sized portions.

The staff is very friendly and kind.

The chef is Greek. He somehow moved to Cardiff but he has always been in Greece. So has been the food he cooks - authentic and homemade. There are only him and a sous-chef in the kitchen. They work in such a calm order so the food comes impeccably. There is a very talented waitress of African heritage. She speaks Greek with the chef. She works in the front and in the kitchen. It is fun to watch them cooking and serving delicious food. I come here every time when I am in Cardiff. My favourite dishes are Greek Salad, Shrimp Omelette, and of course Moussaka.

Genuinely authentic Greek food. Absolutely delicious. Wonderful staff. Huge portions. We are definitely going back. Can’t recommend highly enough.

What a little gem this place is! Went there after the rugby on Saturday. Lovely staff, lovely food and great value for money. We would thoroughly recommend this place. Just one thing to note for customers and the restaurant itself. You can't book instantly via their website which I imagine puts some people off. You can send a booking request via email, which I did, but then I phoned up and booked over the phone. The lady said always phone up to book. Wouldn't want anyone missing out on this place. It's great!!

Super food at an affordable price and (for these days) cheap drinks too. Friendly service. Recommend ordering the house Rose, absolutely top notch. If you're not local to Cardiff, you'd need a car, it's not easy walking distance from the city centre, but if you're mobile, what's not to like? If we were local, we'd be back. Indeed, we'd make it our local!

We love The Athenian tree. I love to eat out and miss real Greek food. The owners and staff are all so lovely and the food is very very good. This is one of my favourite places to eat.

Great place for an early evening works do, one of our team is from Athens and he rated the food as pretty authentic. Nothing too fancy, just simple home cooked tasty Greek dishes...

Got takeaway (rang to order). 6x chicken gyros wraps with halloumi and 2 portions of spinach pies, ridiculously cheap she must’ve charged us wrong (£40 but we gave £45) - the gyros was great and the spinach pies were a must order!

First visit here, lovely welcoming restaurant. Food was delicious and very authentic. Great atmosphere, reminded us of being back in Greece.

Absolutely beautiful food The lunch time wraps are £5.50, you’ll be absolutely stuffed as there’s no way you can leave anything on the plate it’s that delicious. Lovely service from waitress. Food is authentic Greek Never had a better wrap in my life and I love food.

The dips were wonderful as we shared a mix of dips as starters. My main was a rich thick tasty stew which can be had with either rice or chips. If I had realised that it came without vegetables I'd have ordered a salad as a side. Other mains were tasty too! None of us could fit in a desert so can't comment on those. Reason for 3 stars for atmosphere is we were the only diners and there was a constant stream of drivers in and out for takeaway.

Ordered the Athenian meat platter it was nice but you don't get a lot of food for the price you pay The side salad was so small it was pointless. I would order it again but would be for myself and not to share, but £30 for a takeaway for one is to pricey

Me and my parents dined here last week and we loved the food! The atmosphere is that of a family run restaurant which is lovely. We shared three starters and the Mixed grill which left us feeling super full. Everything tasted fresh and delicious.

jewel in Canton. Warm welcome and cuisine perfectly executed. The only thing that's let's it down in my opinion is that the dining area is narrow.

I could not stop saying "this was the best food I've had in such a long time" it was cheap and so delicious, I had a chicken breast with Greek salad and ong I've never tasted something better in so long, it's quite and a place that needs so much more recognition for how brilliant it is! I will definitely be bringing everyone I know to come try it all, and the staff were so kind and attentive !!

Such a lovely restaurant serving authentic Greek food. Hidden gem in Canton. Really good service and fairly priced. Go to Greece and Cyprus alot and nice to see authentic food with not over inflated prices! Can't wait to go back for dinner with friends soon!

Top place! Deserves 5 stars. From the outside looks small, but it's a nice sized place with plenty of tables, cosy feeling, and amazing friendly staff. The food cooked fresh and tasted lovely, with short wait times. Definitely recommend the food, I personally had the meatballs with half rice and half chips!

Nice chicken club gyros, could have added more meat but was very nice. The chip's were freshly cut and very nice! Highly recommended!

Πιάτα γευστικοτατα!!! Τιμές απόλυτα λογικές προς τα κάτω και όχι προς τα πάνω. Μην ξεχάσατε για γλυκό να δοκιμάσετε το απόλυτα σπιτικό γαλακτομπουρεκο. The best Greek food in Cardiff hands down, they’ll make you feel like you’re eating at a taverna on Corfu. Would recommend everything - amazing kleftico, moussaka, gyros, the homemade baklava is also to die for. Lovely decor and cosy taverna-style ambience. Don’t pass on this place if you’re looking for the best, most authentic experience !!

Lovely, friendly staff and the food was superb. One of the best souvlakis I have ever had and I've had quite a few in Greece itself! The calamari was crispy outside and soft inside, just fresh and perfect. I will definitely be returning and have already recommended to several friends in Cardiff.

Booked this for a 50th birthday celebration for someone who loves all things Greek. Restaurant is quite small but adequate and there is a car park opposite which is great. Staff were lovely and friendly. The one downside is there is no children's menu (or smaller portion option). The few items on the menu my 4yr old may have eaten were unfortunately not available. Food was tasty and fresh. I'd highly recommend the Athenian Feta to start, it's so nice! The Halloumi was also lovely and a generous portion! I was expecting my main meal of gyros to be an actual wrap however it's a plate of meat and chips with pitta and dip on the side. One party member ordered the mousaka (their favourite Greek dish) as their main however they said it had a very strong aniseed taste which they was not keen. I'd recommend a visit and probably pre-book a table due to the restaurant size. We live 40mins away otherwise I'd try the takeaway option to!

Lovely little Greek restaurant in the canton area . The food is amazing . Had the stifado and chips and it was stunning . Apologies for no pics, but will be sure to take some on the next visit . If you like your Greek food get down to the Athenian tree. Staff are so friendly and helpful 👍

My husband and I had such a lovely meal last night xx The cheese pie starter was beautiful, the lamb chops and the kleftico were amazing. We were so full we didn't order desert, but the owner kindly gave us some little cheese pastries in honey to finish off the meal, and they were gorgeous. Such a lovely evening, will definitely be going again.

Visited for the first time today and we're pleasantly surprised by the smart and clean interior, the warm welcome and the excellent home-cooked dishes. Will definitely go again.

The food was shocking! Looked like a pot of oregano was poured on top and I don’t like oregano. There was no mention of this on the description and the pork skewers left a bad taste in the mouth. What a waste of food and money!!

Had the most delicious and authentic takeaway meal from here last night via Deliveroo. Despite the distance to Penarth Marina the food was well packed and still warm to eat. While eating my Athenina Feta and Gemista I was transported back to Greece on a dull Tuesday night at home.

food's good, in fact it was very nice, but don't order take away. Called the restaurant because it was delayed and they told me the food is ready but there's no driver. I call the driver and he's been there for a long time and hasnt been given the order. In the background of that call I can hear the woman I talked to at the restaurant trying to reason with him but the food clearly wasn't ready on time and according to the driver they were more interested about getting table service meals out than doing the orders in the order they came in. Shameful that because I couldn't go and sit out for a meal they would put me on low priority and delay my order and having worked in the industry before if I had done that I'd have been sacked, let alone lying to a customer about it.

Sat in for dinner tonight with a friend, felt really safe and secure, staff were friendly and attentive. Food was lovely - we ordered way too much as we wanted to try everything and couldn't finish our gyros so actually have some for lunch tomorrow. Really lovely meal - I hadn't been out for dinner in a long time due to covid so this was great!
