We attended the Sunday 5 course carvery 4 days ago , after many people told us it was excellent food. I personally do not know what standards these people go by , but that was by far the worst carvery I've ever had. We were in a vast room at the very back with only one other table occupied so the atmosphere was dead. After taking a drinks order and showing us where to go ,we made our way to the starters, these consisted of dried up burnt chicken wings , runny prawn salad, congealed vegetable soup ,stale pale bread rolls and disgusting kippers ,everything was warm to cold but nothing was HOT and nearly inedible. Then came mains , firstly I believe at a carvery you should be free to serve yourself, but no 2 servers were at the mains , one giving the thinest slice of turkey and ham and the other dishing out veg and potatoes. My daughter who's not a big meat eater loves piling on the potatoes and veg , she was given one small ice cream scoop of mashed potatoes!!!! I asked for cauliflower cheese and was able to stand my fork completely straight up in it it was that hard the exact same with the rock hard carrots. The cauliflower had no cheese sauce, the stuffing was definitely out of a box ,just add water muck and tasted of chemicals, the roast potatoes tasted only of the cooking oil and the gravy which you couldn't even put on yourself was runny and greasy. The pudding table had a vast array of selections and amazingly not one thing tasted of what it was advertised as, the carrot cake and biscoff cake tasted exactly the same of NOTHING, all of us left most of our pudding untouched, you CANNOT get tea or coffee at your table, you have to go downstairs and order it?? Why I've no idea, presumably you are supposed to sit in a bar and drink it? However when we went downstairs the place was deserted with not one member of staff anywhere, so we left , we were 43 mins from entering to walking back to car , as we just wanted it to be over. I spent £136.00 and all of us left feeling hungry. We usually go to The Lodge for 5 course Sunday carvery and this experience is amazing the food and service and staff are fantastic and we will stick with here in future. We also never had one member of staff ask us if everything was OK, or if we wanted another drink or anything while there. All in all a horrible experience

Massive drop in standards since the last time we visited. We went for the carvery on Sunday for the first time in ages but won’t be going back. The meal cost £39.90 for two courses for two. We first noticed the normal selection of food, especially the meat choices had been pared back . Only roast beef and no turkey or ham, we were offered pork , steak pie, chicken -pasta or cod instead. The pork was very tough and not very enjoyable, the steak pie and roast beef were okay. Not a great selection of veg either. When is now comes to dessert, instead of being able to choose from a wide variety, you are now limited two a few basic choices. And getting the dish was no easy task, a waitress didn’t appear for ages, then took our order and promptly disappeared, we bot waited quite some time before asking another difficult to get hold of waitress, who thankfully brought our desserts. After the confusion and wait, they really weren’t worth, quite bland crumble served with a very small pot of custard

Went for Sunday carvery I informed The waitress on arrival that I was gluten-free and asked if it was possible she says yes there was plenty of choice. I was just told to asked the chef after having had my cold starter and soup (potato and leek) I then approached the chef and asked for a portion of gluten-free chips and he said all our chips are gluten-free so I went and got my main course roast beef and ham, some carrots, cabbage, and mashed potatoes I then got the chips brought to the table I ask the waitress are these gluten free she replied yes . So I continued on with my meal and close to the end, I then found bits of batter in with my chips so I was not convinced they were gluten-free so I called Over the waitress I had told that I was gluten free at the beginning of my meal to inform her and to showed her the batter which was found in the middle of the chips. She said they were all gluten-free, but she would let the chefs know, this evening I have been feeling very unwell and awful pains in my stomach I also have been running to the toilet. These are all the signs that I have eaten gluten so just wanted to inform you all that I do not think I got gluten-free chips. Just to make you all aware of it

Spent nearly £300 on the Sunday carvery for a family of 9 and was appalled with the food wasn’t fresh, small portions, food wasn’t warm and the room was freezing and when asked for the air conditioning to be turned down was ignored 3 times. Won’t be back in a rush. You get what you pay for as they say

Probably the worst carvery we have ever had! The main course was soup and it was very very salty. The main course was very average and extremely bland. The staff looked fed up and were uninterested in anyone.

Never disappoints. Portions great, food is delicious. Staff are always great. Couldn’t say a bad word about it. Well worth the money especially for hotel prices. Have done well doing it up looks great and a lot lighter. Fast service and food cooked to perfection. Can’t wait to get back.

Went for carvery yesterday (the one and done) and the queue was very long for what seemed like no reason and when I gave the woman behind the desk my booking, she couldn’t find it as it wasn’t there! Management didn’t seem to know what they were doing and it was all very unprofessional. Wasn’t much selection of meats in the carvery but food was great nonetheless. Everything else was mediocre at best and will not be back.

Attended the Bushtown Hotel and Spa last night for a meal with a few friends we hadn’t been in a while and decided to give it a go due to good reviews. However, this was the worst experience and worst treatment I have ever received in the hospitality industry. I don’t even know where to start the whole night was an absolute disaster from start to finish. Upon arrival we were greeted and a drinks order was taken straight away making us feel quite rushed as we weren’t quite sure what we wanted. We asked the waitress to come back in a few minutes which she did took the drinks order and left again. Sat for quite some time waiting on an order being taken we were aware it was very busy and I presume there was a function upstairs as guest were making there way up there. When we asked for an order to be taken we were told only one member of staff took the orders which we couldn’t quite believe as the restaurant was packed. Staff looked absolutely fed up which I would too if I was spoken to the way they were. I didn’t quite catch the name of the lady but I presume she was a manager, had a navy dress on, brown hair and glasses, I was appalled at how she spoke to the older staff and if looks could kill half of the staff and restaurant would be dead! I can only assume she was a manager due to the way she was dressed but she didn’t have a clue what she was doing, was running around like a headless chicken. Food came after a long wait and of course no surprise the food was stinking, for the prices I was assuming the chef would personally bring it out served on a silver platter. Left the restaurant and decided to go out to the lounge for live music, little did we know the music was not the only entertainment we were in for. 5 police cars landed, a police van and of course a young man was cuffed and taken away. I honestly have never been as shocked in my life I felt like I was in a episode of Eastenders. No doubt this review will get removed but I will be making sure to post it on various other social media platforms!!!

Pretty average.. car park packed at 1.45 ppl parking on grass verge on road. Sunday carvery more like school dinners. 20 minutes wait for main meal and another 20 min wait for dessert… you pay downstairs so you don’t see the 3 queues snaking across the dining room… I did ask if there was a wait and was told No!.. had we been informed we could have choose to return at a later date. Paid £21 for 5 courses… got a plate of melon for starters and 29 mins later in queue got main meal as pic below.. didn’t want to wait in another queue for desserts so left … spoke to female staff member who stated “I did know you were on a time limit”.. very disappointing with other diners also stating their disappointment… need to get sorted 😡

My sister in law booked for our family to have carvery for her 80 year old father. He has poor mobility, and when we contacted the hotel, they said they had a one course carvery downstairs, but we could get a pudding if we wanted. At the hotel there were 8 of us the table. All squeezed in. No room for me to actually get out from the table for the people at the table behind me. The chairs basically touching each other. Not much direction as to what to do when we were all sat down. Apparently there was complimentary soup, went up to the counter no soup bowls, no one to ask about bowls. Got the soup. Went up then for main carvery. Only roast beef left, where going to see if they had turkey, they do upstairs but not downstairs. The food itself was very nice. The fella serving the food looked like he didn't want to be there. So to dessert, thought we could have had a dessert, but according to the serving staff no it was one course. So no pudding available. So for a 3 course carvery that we wanted to have, we couldn't have because we had someone with poor mobility with us, then as we were leaving a waitress ran after us about 2 jugs of dilute we hadn't paid for yet, no one had came to our table at all. So went to the bar to pay the dilute and saw a dessert menu that was only available monday - friday according to the barperson. Giving our experience and service i actually find it bad that they actually asked for the money, because it was a very poor experience. I now know it's not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. If there was access to upstairs this was not advised to us. It was my first and last time at the bushtown. Mcdonalds provided dessert.

Booked a table for 2.15 as a family of 3 for Sunday Carvery. Girl took payment when we arrived then told us we had to wait over 30mins to be seated (not ideal when we had originally a table booked) Food was ok but chef wasn't pleasant at all, portion sizes on the small side. We asked a waitress for a gravy boat on two separate occassions, it never came. Staff members looked like they didn't want to be there, not once were we asked was our meal ok or did we need more drinks etc. The fact there was NO changing facilities to change a baby was very disappointing!!

Myself and a friend had went to enjoy a Sunday carvery. We had previously booked a table for 1:30 as we knew it would be quite busy on a Sunday. We had arrived at 1:30 and went to where the carvery was being served, paid for the carvery and took a seat to wait for our table (as you pay before you eat) we were told that there would be a bit of a wait as they were busy which we fully understood. However, we ended up waiting for 1hour for a booked table!! We had to get up twice to see how long our table would be, to be greeted with very unprofessional staff who clearly had zero to no organisational skills. They did not apologise and were not understanding or even accommodating that it wasn’t acceptable to be waiting that amount of time for a table that was already booked very disappointing! Along with shrugging shoulders and bad attitudes! Even though people that had just walked in were being seated. Such a shame to have such a lack of professional skills.

Mother’s Day visit what a disappointment, food was awful. Yorkshire puddings were awful! Aunt Bessie’s at home are nicer. Desserts bought in from Lynas, not 1 homemade. Had to go to bar to order drinks & got such an ignorant approach from a young male member of staff when I wanted to order more drinks. Ice cream, was not even froze, running round the plate like cream. Over priced, not worth half of what is charged. Save your money!

Standard have definitely declined since the last time we were here. We went for a mid-week carvery lunch and were very disappointed. The only roast meat was pork and it was very tough, fatty and rather cold despite us getting there shortly after 12pm. The chicken and ham pie had soggy, undercooked pastry and the beef casserole had more gravy than meat. Desserts were bought rather than homemade. If the food was bad, the attitude of the staff was worse; when I complained about the lack of choice, the server basically threw the plate at me and snapped back that no-one else had a problem with it. Considering the amount of competition out there, the Bushtown needs to do better; we won't be back.

Family of 4 in for lunch.. wish we hadn’t bothered. Menu stuck in the 90s, staff with the exception of the young barman all looked like they didn’t want to be there. Lasagne, bland, nuked to death in the micro. Fish&chips, how you can mess up frozen fish and frozen chips is beyond me.. the peas were good, presumably thanks to Tesco. Chicken bang bang.. it clearly lost its bang, where was the flavour??? Chicken goujons, the chicken like the fish was dry as a bone and served with a bowl of what can only be described as warm milk, melted butter and corn.. absolutely vile. Chunky chips on all our plates needed another while in fryer to colour them but more importantly cook them!!! The mountain of green salad on the plates, which I presume was to hide the look of the meals could have done with at least a rinse under water get the grit out. Had to ask for the sides, vinegar, sauce. Even when we thankfully decided to leave,it was a game of hunt the staff to get the bill. Don’t waste your time or money.. get yourself off to Asda, pick up some 99p value meals and trust me the will taste better than anything we had the misfortune of trying today

Had lunch on Saturday 10th (from the menu, not carvery) and it was lovely, waitress very helpful and informative so as a party of 4 on an annual pre-Christmas night out we opted to book the Sunday Carvery on our way home the next day. Not sure it was the right choice, starters and desserts were great however the main course was a major let-down, turkey was dry (yes I know it usually is though this tasted as though it had been re-heated more than once, there was absolutely no natural juices), very generic gravy, bland stuffing not even a sniff of an onion which I'm pretty sure is a stable ingredient. We did inform the duty manager when she asked how our meal was though not sure she took our comments on board, perhaps that is why the upstairs function room wasn't very busy, customer opinions may not be taken onboard.

Have been a regular but after this latest debacle thinking of going elsewhere for our Sunday Carvery. What’s the point of booking if unable to provide a table on arrival. Staff too busy looking at their booking sheet as if it’s some complex thesis in Astro Physics. Crowd them in and work it out later seems to be the mindset.

We stayed in the hotel for the weekend, thought I’d reviewed it separately. Atmosphere: rustic, country and casual. We were seated no problems at all, even earlier then our time. Breakfast: self serve, opened at 8am, we got down for 8:30am, bacon was solid as if to be sitting for hours. Standard food, nothing to write home about. Fruit station has defrosted mixed berries and tinned fruits, if it was fresh maybe. A latte/cappuccino is £3 extra and comes up a small mug, ridiculous. 4/10 Lunch. Burger: 5/10, dry, no flavour, needs a bit of seasoning and something you could do at home. Tartlets: 5/10, ok burnt on the top, scalding hot, balsamic drizzle was more bitter than sweet and basic salad. Was only ok. Dinner: Linda was our waitress and she was amazing, bubbly, attentive and just a joy. Starters came out in like 5mins. Soup was vegetable with broth, piping hot but it was lovely I prefer that to the blended kind. 8/10 Chicken wings, very skinny not lot a of meat, only 4 wings on the plate, no dip or celery for texture 3/10 very disappointing. Steak was perfectly cooked, the only downside was the balsamic glaze on the plate, strange. There was a tendon going through the streak that ruined it but lovely steak besides that 8/10. Chicken and half rack ribs, no sides. Chicken dry. 4/10. Dessert; wow, death by chocolate..beautiful! Belgian waffle 10/10! Personally we won’t be returning.

This has got to be the worst cafe experience I have ever had. On entering and sitting down I had to ask later if I could place an order as I was ignored up to that. On ordering I was told I had to pay in advance. From this it took 35 minutes before I got fed up and asked how much longer, the waitress who just looked like she was waiting for someone to complain so she could light on them, went down the back and rusted for everyone to hear "how much longer for table 3." I had to wait a further 10 minutes before the food arrived. 45 mins from order to eating, this was horrendous. The food itself was ok but the service was diabolical. Anyone with a few hours to waste go ahead other n that stay well clear. Never, ever again.

Could do with some nice music playing. The Xmas hot chocolates are lovely and the velvet cake too. Very much enjoyed! The service is somewhat friendly but could definitely be improved. The tables could be tidied faster. We waited about 5 mins until a table we were at was cleared by a member of staff.
