I was taken to Curry Ono by a friend who lives locally - it was a wet weekday evening but the restaurant was buzzing when we arrived around 7.30pm. It was a great start when the people leaving as we arrived couldn't resist telling us how good their meal had been. My friend and I decided to choose a range of starter dishes to share - I think we had about 8 in total. Particularly memorable were the Gomaae (green beans in, I think, a sesame seed sauce), the seaweed salad, chicken teryaki and the miso salmon. Each dish was distinctive, beautifully prepared and very tasty. There was more than enough food for the two of us. On my friends' recommendation we ended the meal with a selection of ice creams in flavours that were new to me - Green Tea, Black Sesame and Red Bean. They were absolutely delicious and a really great way to enjoy something sweet but not too sweet. The overall cost, including drinks was just over £50 for the two of us, which seemed very reasonable. Overall, a really enjoyable meal.

I had not eaten here for several months as the menu was beginning to feel a bit samey (although I don't know why I don't say that of other favourite restaurants that serve, for example, Italian food…) But there are some new additions and, on reflection, there is plenty of choice for either a light lunch or, as we had, a hearty mid-week supper when we could not be bothered to cook.We started with some octopus balls, which were light and fluffy, and some pork gyoza. As we had sat down before 8 pm, we were able to take advantage of the "happy hour" offer, with both items coming with a beer for £7.30, saving £2.40 in total. I love the pork gyoza, with a light dumpling shell and a flavoursome stuffing, they also have veggie alternatives (in fact, I was struck by how good the menu is for vegetarians, with a large choice). We were feeling greedy and also had a plate of vegetable tempura, which is big enough for two (£4.80), and consists of various slices/strings of vegetables which are covered in a light batter and deep fried (just don't count the calories!) My companion and I shared our starters and thought they were outstanding in taste and beautifully presented. For the main courses, we had chadon yaki udon, which was a dish of pan fried thick rice noodles, chicken and vegetables. My companion thought the chicken was exceptionally moist and tasty. I had the pork ramen, which was a large bowl of soup, with thin wheat noodles, thin slices of pork, noodles, slices of seaweed and a garnish of spring onion. I thought I had died and gone to heaven! The broth was divine, bursting with flavour. Again, both dishes were very pleasing to the eye in attractive asian bowls. My companion also had a calpis soda, which is a sort of yoghurt flavoured drink, which he said was good. Alas, the ice-cream was off the menu that night, as this is one of the few places that I have found selling black sesame seed, which I adore. The bill for two without service was just over £40, which was very reasonable given what we had. The service is OK, but could be a bit warmer.

Really enjoyed my first trip to Curry Ono last week. It's low key, but the people were warm and friendly, the service was smooth and efficient, the range of vegetarian dishes was varied, and compared with prices in other parts of Brixton these days it was a nice surprise. All three of us really enjoyed our choices and would definitely go back.

The restaurant presented the food nicely, but they were not up to Japanese stanadrd. I ordered the signiture dish ,pork katsu curry with rice. The rice is not authentic Japanese rice, the texture is more like from ThailandThe pork fillet was too fat and the curry was not thick enough. Overall, it was a big let down as there isnt a lot of places focusing on Jap curry.

I was choosing between a Mexican restaurant, a grill place and Curry Ono the night I went to Brixton Market. I decided on Curry Ono and did not regret it. The agedashi tofu was lovely - I even had to use a spoon so I could sip most of the sauce. Some people might find it too salty, but I found the saltiness reasonable, considering that tofu is tasteless and needs a very strong sauce to make it interesting. I had the chicken katsu curry. It was a bit pricey for me at more than £8 (with rice), but at least it was good. The chicken was tender (not overcooked) and the breading was crunchy - until the last bit. The staff were pleasant. My bill, including soda, added up to £15 (no service charge) - not bad. I will be back for the agedashi tofu.

Maybe my favourite place to eat in London. The potato croquettes vegetable curry is extremely delicious, very authentically Japanese. Not too spicy, great if you're a cissy like me. Great value and usually quiet enough to get a table right away.If you'd like a lesson in curry evolution, come and see what happened to curry when it was brought from India to Britain and then taken to Japan and back to Britain. The result is Oiishi desu!

Some restaurants in Brixton Market are a little rough 'n' ready, or you need to queue for hours, but we walked into this spotless and well-lit restaurant at 1pm on a Saturday to a welcoming smile and an available table. Very good food and a wide variety of oriental dishes. The Seaweed salad was excellent. We'll be going back.

Curry Ono does authentic japanese food in the heart of brixton in the covere market row. I'm a japanese student and the food tastes just like in japan. No offence to fujiyama or ichiban but this place is the real deal. Its good that proper japanese is popping up in this area along with okan. The owner makes his japanese curry from scratch, not from premade s&b roux. If you are hungry, go for a katsu curry and you will be guaranteed to be waddling home! The place has relaxed cafe interior with mari mekko wall paper.

I just want to express my extreme disappointment with how my first, and now last, visit to this establishment was. The person I was with was served his food and then after twenty minutes I asked where my food was and to my shock I was told not only was it served to a different table, but that I was then to expect the dish that table had ordered though it was a different dish. I can understand serving my food to another table but to have the audacity to assume I would their mistake and then serve me what I has asked for? When I tried to talk to the manager, he would not look me in the eye, and to be honest I can't believe he is the actual manager as he has absolutely no capability of dealing with customers. I am a Brixton resident who spends enough time and money in the Brixton market area with plenty of friends who also have plenty of disposable income and I will definitely relate to them my horrible experience and will vehemently discourage any of them from patronising this establishment as they seem to have no understanding or appreciation as to how to treat people who have innumerous other eating establishments they can take their hard earned money to.

We had dinner here. My guest ordered a curry and while I was served promptly we waited another 15 minutes before having to asked about my guests dish. They explained that they had served it to anther table and that they would give him a different dish instead. When we complained to management they said nothing and were not at all helpful. In the end we left with only one person eating. Also the wine we ordered was not available so they gave us another (with out asking) which was more expensive. The worst service I've had in a long time!

I have been to Curry Ono several times now and love the authentic Japanese home cooking. Although I have only visited Japan twice, I introduced a Japanese friend to the restaurant and she said the food was just like her mother would have made - and I can vouch for her mother being a very good cook! She also told me that a few of the Japanese restaurants she has been to in London use ready made stock cubes, but Curry Ono tell us that they make their sauce on the premises. It certainly tastes home-made and, to use one of the few Japanese words I know, oishii - it is delicious!Since I was there about a month ago, they have expanded the menu. They still have favourites like katsu curry (pork or chicken), but they also now do noodle dishes. I particularly liked the soup with ramen, pork and vegetables - a complete and filling meal at £7. Another innovation is the sake menu, with Japanese rice wines from across the country. One small quibble: the service needs to be a bit faster when they are busy. I would suggest telling the waiter that you have to leave by a certain time if going to the Ritzy cinema for a show. Although, to be fair, the waiters are always polite, cheerful and helpful in explaining the menu. And a meal is very good value - I have rarely spent more than £20 for three courses and a drink.Curry Ono has definitely become a regular for me in Brixton. Long may the market continue to thrive!

I went there several times and the quality was always excellent and consistent. Healthy food. No chemicals used to enhance the flavours. A large selection of starters. The house is specialised in japanese curry which here is really mastered. The owner and staff are professional, efficient, and friendly in a subdued discreet japanese way. The atmosphere is clean and modern. Extremely reasonnably priced for the quality.

Being a Japanese overseas, I need to get my fix for good food from home. In London, this means either paying alot for what you get, or getting on a serious hunt. Curry Ono is one of those gems that reward you for your hunt.I had a large katsu curry, and it was great. It features a proper( if japanese style curry can be described as that) curry roux made from scratch, not the instant stuff you get in wasabi etc. It has a delicate mix of spices that has a great aroma. The katsu was crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside, and you could tell they take care of the quality of oil.The decor is cafe style and reminds of the curry places in Tokyo. It sits on a relatively quiet part of the Brixton covered shopping lanes, so good if you want to get away from the bustle. I want to try the rest of the menu so will be back in Brixton for more. I recommend Curry Ono to anyone, especially if they are picky.

This little restaurant is in a different part of the covered Brixton market from most of the now famous Brixton village. That makes it a bit quieter...but it still had a really good atmosphere. I'd never had Japanese curry before - and it was delicious. I had the crispy chicken curry and my partner had the prawn curry, both were very good. Not too hot, lovely sauce, and the crispness of the chicken was fab! Starters were great, especially the seaweed salad and the fresh spinach. Only one choice of sweet - but that was really unusual ice cream....green tea and red bean flavours. So, three courses, and drinks, all for £23 each including tip.Great evening.

We wouldn't have known about Curry Ono if friends who live locally hadn't discovered it and told us, and it's really good - delicious freshly cooked mild curries, plenty of choice for veggies, and generous portions. It looks very new and stylishly minimalist, light and bright - sort of Japanese IKEA. And it's amazing value for money. We'll probably use it a lot.

This was a really welcome change to the usual sushi, sashimi and noodles that you find everywhere. I went for lunch and had a selection of starters which were all great value and good sized portions. Having been to Japan many times, I never quite undertood why their lovely, delicious "caari" - the Japanese version of curry - never took off in Europe. Finding this new little spot in Brixton was a real surprise. The place is modern, super clean (yes, in Brixton!) but sightly lacks warmth. Nothing bad with it, as a lot of Itsu customers scream out loud, but my suggestion is just: don't go there for a romantic evening on a first date. On the other hand, the owner and the personnel have this kind and efficient attitude that you find only in Japan, their Asahi biiru (beer) is served as chilled as it should be, and the food is well prepared: curry is properly done, with tender beef and vegetables at the right spiciness (cooked express!) and tori kara age (fried chicken) should win a special jury prize for its crunchiness. Portions are abundant and cheap, and the menu offers a decent number of options. Well, I am not sure how long it will take for people to give up that elastic pizza at Franco Manca's for this new healthy and tasty option in a quiet and relaxing environment.
