I really don't like to complain but compelled to in this instance. I ordered the Tandoori Mixed Grill which is near on £20, £18.95 I believe. Anyhow, what turned up was little more than you'd expect as a starter. I wish I could upload the photo I took of it to show how derisory it was. Anyway, I called them and was told I had to complain via Just Eat - strange, I thought they simply delivered it, not cooked it too. I have to say my mates had no issue with their food and said their curries were spot on. This is just a personal gripe on my part. So be wary, don't order the Tandoori Mixed Grill if you are hungry and try ordering direct - cut out the middle party as if you want to make a complaint there will be little or no recourse for you. Very disappointing. *** In response to your reply, I was in no way attacking your business, if you had read it properly, you'd notice that my friends had no issue with their food. They were very happy with it. What you claim my order consisted of is not accurate - it may have been what was meant to have arrived but it wasn't. That is what my issue was. Its an honest reflection of my personal experience. I know plenty of people that use your business and speak very highly of it. Anyway, no hard feelings on my account but you need to appreciate as a business that not all reviews are going to be favourable and accept that people have a genuine right to express this ***

Ordered a takeaway from here on a whim as we had a craving for a curry on our last night of our trip. We were initially apprehensive to find out the vegan korma didn't come with any meat substitute and only vegetables. But we were very happy with what we received. The delivery lady was polite and friendly, the lady we spoke to on the phone was equally friendly when asking questions. To top it off the food was really good. The veg was fresh, not frozen mixed vegetables like some places would use. Very tasty. Would recommend 👍

I've been a big fan of this place for many years however having not been for ages and in need of some normally quality food we decided on a takeaway. The food arrived on time, was hot and nothing was amiss however the usual quality was missing and what we had was very average such a dissapoinment considering the many great meals we've had here, both eat in and takeaway. Get the feeling that the place has lost it's mojo, since they became alcohol free the once bustling and large establishment now only has a reduced capacity and is only a third of it's previous size.

Have given 5 stars as the prawn madras, aubergine bhaji, nan and poppadoms were cooked to perfection, the dips that came before the meal with the poppadoms were however really AWFUL I had expected the usual Indian pickles such as lime, mixed, chilli, mango etc these were terrible and also got charged for them which was not told to me when they arrived as all Indian restaurants I go into they are usually complimentary, so be aware you will have it added to your bill, the food was expensive compared to others but worth it if the same chef always cooks ! Restaurant was not very welcoming or cosy and it was freezing in there, didn't feel at all like an authentic Indian restaurant due to staff and restaurant itself but the food made up for it. Waitress was pleasant and friendly. Alcohol free zone, they don't sell it and you cannot bring your own.

Since Curry Mahal opened last year under new management the place is "Dry as a Bone" but lack of alcohol is more than made up for by the great choice menu, great tasting food, fantastic service and very competitive prices. If you do feel the need for a familiar tipple there is a good selection of alcohol free beer and wine as well as an extensive "Mocktail" menu along with the more traditional choice of several different flavoured lassis' and the usual plethora of fizzy and still soft drinks. Great evenings dining which I plan to repeat in the not too distant future, Thanks team.

Religious discrimination - we were not allowed to enter because we were not observing Ramadan and had consumed a small amount of alcohol prior to attending. It was my birthday and I had consumed 1 drink. It’s their business so of course that is fair enough, they can do as they please but it just seems bizarre…If it were the opposite and any Muslim that was observing Ramadan was barred, that would not go down well I’m sure. I understand it is haram and respect their religious values but as far as a review of the establishment, I would give it 0 stars if possible. Thank you EDIT: Why would I lie on a review??? Bizarre response. The waiter lady that advised us we were not allowed was very polite, she said it was the manager that made this decision.

We asked to change our booking to a slightly later time and was told if we consumed alcohol beforehand we would not be allowed to enter due to the fact the staff were fasting in Ramadan . We thought there had been some misunderstand as we were aware of being unable to drink inside and so clarified with the lady, and she confirmed if we went to the pub for a drink first, we would then be unable to enter the establishment. I clarified again, I don’t personally drink alcohol but are you telling me I will be unable to enter if other members of this party had consumed? And she confirmed the staff were in full fast, and we would not be able to come back to eat if we visited a pub first. Totally bizarre situation, I asked if they breathalyse their customers and she confirmed not. The owner has replied to my family members review stating it is a lie, we would not make up such a random bizarre lie, and luckily we found a lovely restaurant nearby.

I went to a birthday party, but was skint with only £10 on me. How was I going to order a meal with only £10? So, I got to the party, and saw that the Chicken Briyani was only £8.90, and I was happy. I ordered that, and had water on the table. Best meal I have had in a long time! Curry Mahal has been open forever, and it is one of the those neglected gems we take for granted. Right around the corner, and in plain sight: a star restaurant. So, I doggy bagged (container) my left-overs and am eating the briyani with a couple of eggs for breakfast right now as I write. I feel a bit guilty, to be honest: all that wonderful food for cheap! .. and with left-overs. I shall reward Curry Mahal by going back. I did leave a tip from the remaining £10, by the way. That was a really good celebration as everyone enjoyed their food. The onion bodgi (sp?) was too spicy hot for my friend, and that was the only complaint. I had the the onion bodgi that my friend gave me and I thought it was fine. Good time all around. :)

I've ordered takeaway from this establishment a handful of times and the food is consistently delicious. Last night me and the family made a rather hefty order, over £80. The food arrived almost half an hour late, being to our surprise, considering the restaurant is only a mile away. Additionally the food was warm enough to be palatable but shouldn't have been as cold as it was taking logistics into account; Delivering to multiple people in a single run is expected, although the customer receiving lukewarm food consequently is unsatisfactory. Conclusively, the food was tasty as always, albeit undesirable in terms of temperature and the delay. Lastly, I personally think that when someone orders an appreciable sized delivery, it's very mean to not include any poppadom's whatsoever.

We ordered our curry really early yesterday (New Years Eve) and unfortunately it took hours to come. Having said that the food was well worth the wait, one of the best curries I’ve ever had. If anything I suppose they should have stopped taking orders as they clearly struggled to fulfil them in time but then people would have been disappointed with that too! In these unprecedented times, when everyone had to stay at home and eat in, I think they produced an excellent meal and I feel for the staff who were clearly rushed off their feet.

Long overdue visit to see how Mo was doing with his new restaurant. After enjoying many amazing meals at the previous Milan Tandoori. This visit did not disappoint - most people don’t realise that every curry is cooked from scratch. No big pot of sauce then added to the meat, they made your curry from the ground up. Which is why it might take a little longer than other restaurants; but I assure you it’s worth the marginally longer wait. Highly recommend! Keep up the fantastic work Mo and your dedicated team

Not the cheapest but you pay for quality ingredients which was very evident! no confirmation when you order online, it just says your order has been received by the company you pay through and not curry mahal themselves, so we rang just to confirm they got our order, with the few items missing or not added it would have been a definite 10/10 but was still amazing

Fancied a Take Away and after looking at the reviews decided to head to Curry Mahal. Once there decided to eat in and was welcomed by the friendly staff. Ordered poppadoms and they were great - the sauces were lovely. We also had a Lassi each one mango one strawberry which were really nice. I had a Prawn Puri starter which was generous and delicious, my wife had the Reshmi Kebab, again delicious. The mains lived up to the starters. My Shatkora Lamb had a lovely, unique taste...not spicy but full of flavour and the Prawn Dansak was cracking! For the sides - the Pilau rice was perfect and the Chana Saag was tasty. They don’t serve alcohol - but do have non-alcoholic alternatives and mocktails. They do take-aways, so if you want a beer with it then go that route...honestly the food is worth it. Spoke to our waiter and he said his family had taken over in September this year - after running a curry house in Shoreham for 25 years. The chef is also one of the original Curry Mahal chefs from before the previous owners. Really enjoyed it and will be back. Sorry didn’t take pictures of the food - we were too hungry!

Couldn't wait for the opening of the refurbished Curry Mahal restaurant who, like others, had seen the old place go from it's well deserved "Jewel of Hove" status to a rather sad version of its former self. Anyway the day came and we headed off to our local only to discover it is now unlicensed, wasn't open to a BYOB suggestion and is planning to continue as a dry establishment. Well that I respect but personally an ice cold pint of lager is synonymous with a night out for a curry. Anyway we went elsewhere for our curry and a pint and from the other feedback it does sound like the food is very good and Curry Mahal is heading to get back it's former title so I'll definitely give it a go but will wait for Dry January.

No grumbles here ! New owners a real friendly bunch and mostly all related - they have a vested interest in getting it right...and they have. Food was excellent , my wife had the chicken tikka masala , and I had the lamb tikka chilli masala , which was (for a chilli lover) pitched at exactly the right level of heat , and the lamb and gravy perfect. Ok , they haven't got an alcohol license , and probably don't want one , however it made a refreshing difference ! I tried a coffee (quality) , chai tea ( true taste of India) and my wife ....a mocktail, the "strawberry twister" , she was blown away ! So , have a curry , and then go round the pub near to home.

Waiting staff didn’t speak English, long wait between courses, chairs extremely uncomfortable, main course cold on arrival at table, sent back to kitchen, 45 minute wait for it to come back

I've been eating curry up and down the country on a regular basis for decades and this is the worst I can remember.

I am absolutely fuming. Ordered curries tonight at 6.45. It came at 8.30 with a main missing. Rang them straight away and told they'd get it out soon .Rang back again at 9.15 and told it was on its way. At 9.45 had to mix the dishes to accommodate the missing meal for our guests. It's now 10.18pm and there's still no sign of the chicken Korma. They've taken my money but not delivered the goods. It was dry where I had to have it in the oven for so long. How about this. They said they'd give it to me next time. Seriously are they kidding.

I have been going to Curry Mahal for years. It can be sometimes hit and miss. However, the last few times have been excellent. Service is excellent, food delicious with portion sizes generous. I always order the tarka dhaal as a side dish and like the lamb and chicken curries. My friends also enjoy their meals.

I have agree with previous reviews we moved into area and tried it. The batter fell off our plaice. Good prices but questionable freshness. Our plaice had started to smell a little funky at one end. So we didn’t notice until we got to that end. The chips were proper. The battered sausage looked so cheap quality. I’m not sure I’d go back there again. But it’s so local. Service was indeed friendly and quick.

An update to my previous review from a few months ago. We have ordered several times since the first review was left and whilst the food has always been really, really good, we have had to wait nearly 2 hours for each order despite ordering around 1800 each time. No apology when I called to check where the food was and nothing from the driver dropping off the food. No updates during the process and we had to call twice to chase our meal before it then finally arrived. Appreciate it is usually a Friday or Saturday when we order, but when it states 45mins for delivery that is then confirmed as 1 hour at point of order, that then takes 2 hours, the order really should just be cancelled or at least a courtesy phone call to update. Will think twice about ordering again from here, despite the great food. Disappointing as the food is really awesome, the service just doesn't match. (Previous review - Superb meal delivered last night. The best takeaway Indian meal we have had in a very long time, having tried a few others locally. Definitely recommended and will be ordering again soon 👍)

We have used this takeaway a few times now when visiting family in Brighton and it’s always been nice. This weekend was a complete disaster! Being told our food would be ready in an hour by 8.05pm on Saturday night. We arrived to collect it, and waited until 9.20pm. We were told for 45 minutes our order was being packed and wouldn’t be long. At around 9.10pm we decided we’d waited long enough and asked for a refund, we were met with an argumentative staff member who refused to listen to what we had to say but happily answered back. We got home and have to say our order must have been rushed as it wasn’t up to usual standard, luke warm, onion bajis half the size of usual. I left my number and was told management would be in touch and guess what… I’ve heard nothing! Was a rather disappointing Saturday night.
